I'm on a big job, and just now stopped for a cup of tea and a sandwich and even though I am also a painter and decorator and people think I'm nuts to watch painting videos after I've been painting all morning, but I got to tell you my friend I learned so much from you guys and your channel is made a huge difference in my business thanks again for sharing the tips on the windows, do the exact same process except I wipe them down with methyl hydrate (which I'm almost positive I learned from one or you two Gentlemen). I know painting plastic is sort of lousy, but done right, the paint sticks like crazy and they always look much better. Thanks again for all your help and another great resource/reference for anyone who needs a 100% expert advisor and trusted resource. You two are the Best.
Hi guys , great video as always 👍 , i painted 2 x double garage UPVC doors 4 years ago , using a similar system but i 240 grade sandpapered them, washed/cleaned with meths to degrease , applied 1 coat zinsser BIN123 & 2 coats dulux oil based opaque RAL 7016 leaving 2 days between each coat & to this day still looks as good as new 👌🙏
There is joy to be had when you get into “ the zone” of ‘cutting in’ with a good flowing paint…time seems to stop for that moment…(which could be hours)
Another cracking bit of prep. You cant beat a bit of Zinsser, The whole range is amazing. I have been using the new BIN aqua on knotts and no bleed through 😊 Again amazing products.
Nice work, I've fitted hundreds of these over the last 40 years! I've got a couple to paint, but I'll pop the glass out, wouldn't do any harm to wipe down with acetone
I actually painted a plastic window with oil based satin coat. Sets harder than gloss, it's still good 3 years later..oil based settles nicely, no brush marks, though I imagine yours will be even better.. good work
Again it's all preparation wash and sand may be wet and dry. You need to remove the shiny surface on tiles. And a good primer Zinsser bin or 123 thanks 👍
Yes colder than normal but it's only a blip. Summer is somewhere 🤔 as long as you do the preparation well it should bond so it won't come off or chip. Thanks 👍
Great job. The primer looks a bit full of brush strokes (not your fault) so do you have to lightly rub down the primer to smooth these out before applying the final top coat ? Many thanks 👍🏼
To be fair most water based finishes leave more brush marks than oil. But any white primer on a dark surface will show all the brush marks. As you build up the coats to 4 it all sits back and looks okay. You do give a light sand in between coats this also helps. Thanks
@@PaintingandDecorating many thanks for your reply. Hope you didn’t think I was being critical of your great work. Your channel is excellent and has helped me many times👍🏼. Is it two coats of primer and two coats of top coat ? Thanks All the best.
No not at all but it needs explaining. One primer and then one undercoat followed by two satin coats. I don't think they will look solid enough with 3 coats. Thanks
Hi mate I would very grateful if you could give me some advice. I am a handyman in Wales and someone has asked me to paint and internal side of a window from dark brown to white. He said he has the paint. How you price a small job like that? Do you usually have to come back to do more coats another day or you do all in one day? Thanks great channel
Was thinking doing mine but was a bit put off about it being a disaster. Hope i can see the end result & it may give me the push. Do you have any tips if the pvc is damaged? Can normal filler be used?
I painted ALL my brown UPVC windows, doors, conservatory and white garage door with Zinsser Allcoat in Anthrocite Grey. Rubbed down with 120 sandpaper, wipe off with damp cloth. NO PRIMER needed. It's BRILLIANT. I gave them TWO coats. Used One and a Half 2:5 Ltr tins at £52 per tin. 3 months later NO scratches etc. REALLY PLEASED. A company wanted £1,500 for ONE days work to spray them.
@@markjones8805 nice one good to hear. They are certainly rushing if it's done in a day. I've heard a few people complaining because it's coming off after being sprayed. Thanks
Great job well done 👍 I’m a decorator 35 years you did it spot on but please do yourself a favour and buy some proform contractor brushes they are a game changer And I’ve used them all trust me. Including acorn eagle 27 Harris super Hamilton perfection plus
Great video. Any thoughts on why my white uvpc sill has developed a motley light brown effect? Have used a restorer which faded it but did not last long.
Thank you, there can be a few reasons for some plastic to fail. The sun is the worst and water sitting on the sill doesn't help. Trees and algae and also over cleaning can wear the plastic sill. Sometimes water running down walls can pick up contamination and stain sills.
@@PaintingandDecorating Many thanks, the sill is South facing so gets sun most of the day, when it shines! Maybe I have overcleand with a cream like restorer, any suggestions as an alternative?
Well it won't come off as it's well bonded to the plastic. But how white and marks and stains I don't really know. It's exterior water based and new ground to me. Oil is been faded out. Oil between 5 and 10 years. Water based could last a lot longer with it's new technology. Thanks
Yes I was hoping for windows not getting done on a job eventually. It is the most time consuming part of the job. But it looks like it's here to stay. 👍 Thanks 👍
Not this stuff it has a 10 year guarantee. Made with resins and is very expensive. But it's worth the money It's good to apply and fast drying. 3 coats in a day.
I think this could attract a lot of criticism from some corners. The Selemix 2k Brigade. The Only Spray Faction. The Adhesion Primer Unit (who would say that 123 isn’t as good as etc etc) but I think decorating is about respecting that there’s many ways to achieve a good outcome and maintaining a budget/profit 👍 I’m proud to be a decorator and sometimes I earn £500 a day and sometimes I do it for £100.
Painters have always painted windows plastic are just a lot easier than wood. You can spray for ridiculous amounts of money or just paint them. Nothing lasts even spray. At least painting they can be touched up or recoated with no massive cost. Thanks 👍. Love being a painter and decorator.
you off your trolly , those are foiled window frames over a pvc graine filler , the only stuff with any longevity is a 2k solvent , sprayed with a turbine , even a 1k like pvc17 is far better than that garbage do a scratch test with your finger nail , and oh yeh im a commercial sprayer of 30 years
If you are a decorator why did you use a paint brush to clean what you had sanded. Now that Ive seen a little more, you do not even know how to hold a brush never mind use one.
Wood is just as bad that's why they had lead paints for flexibility. Wood is probably worse than plastic. Modern paints are better designed using resin and more flexible. Thanks

Back in the 80s plastic windows were sold to us so we don’t have to paint wooden frames.
Now here we are painting plastic ones. 😁
Yes never thought I'd have to paint windows again. One bounce is no rot no putty. 👍

Lots of patience required and skill.

He's got loads on the brickwork and painted the silicone. Messy job. I'm not a decorator by tade but could do a tidier job than this.
Just have a rag handy and wipe it off.
