    Would love to hear about any experience spraying uPVC.. What products are you using?
    Or anyone using an air spray / HVLP setup ..Do you do wood refinishing? Even spray cars .. What equipment are you using and what materials do you spray?.. it’s great to get your input 💯

      Hey John, thanks for your input on the channel.. that’s a great machine, I like the XVLP sprayers.. yeah Kolorbond will spray through XVLP.. you may just have one problem.. the viscosity of Kolorbond is very low (thin).. sometimes when it’s that thin, the pressure can not hold in the cup so you get a stop start spray (pulsing)... bit like when cleaning / flushing with water, the spray will pulse.. I’ve got this machine ua-cam.com/video/1C2CV8mEWn8/v-deo.html ..Same just with the separate turbine.. when I get chance, I’ll put a video testing Kolorbond through XVLP ..Hope this helps my friend, keep in touch.. regards Pete 🎨💯

      I have sprayed many automotive applications with HVLP before. For around the house stuff similar to this where I am spraying metal I usually use a siphon feed gun with a 1.7mm tip. In similar applications I have sprayed an enamel acryilic cut with a basic universal reducer. Works well overall. However, I loved your scratch test in this application. That is a great paint and I liked how you did the scotch bright in between coats. That was very interesting to me!

      I sprayed a pvc door + frame and a few of windows but it was a spray booth job with large compressor and devilbis gpg guns (is1.5 bar considered high pressure?), used shervin williams 2pack polyurethane. Did pretty much the same procedure as you here and got great finish, didnt think to do a scratch test 😊, will remember the next time. Masking was a nightmare as I couldnt remove the glass panel while rubber gasket and masking tape refused to cooperate with each other.
      Looking forward to sprayman hvlp + pot set up but tripping at the same time as I dont have access to sb anymore and never used hvlp. Exciting times.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  3 роки тому

      Hi Matt.. go for it buddy.. the Gentilin compressor in this video would be the perfect compressor to go AAA, especially with your SF23.. very nice my friend 👏 ..This Gentilin is the ultra quiet, there is a cheaper model that’s not ‘ultra quiet’ but it’s not loud by any means.. and you don’t need to run the compressor directly alongside the airless sprayer, you can run the air line from another room.. coupled with the Wagner AC4700 gun.. it’ll be an awesome setup .. sorry, I sound like a sales rep or I’m sponsored.. I’m not btw 😆 it’s just that Mike at SpraymanUK is very knowledgeable in the ‘spraying / compressor world’ and not just out to make a sale 👍 ..Please keep in touch and let me know how you get on.. even if you don’t go AAA yet, always great to get your input 💯 regards Pete

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  2 місяці тому +1

      Thank you my friend 🙏 You know what, that’s something on my mind to demonstrate (the possibilities) in a future video.. basically you need to reduce the paint flow to gain more control - you do that by using a smaller orifice size. That said, the paint viscosity has to be low, plus bear in mind the minimum UQS tip support is .008” - but a .006, so a 206 and 106 is possible, as long as the UQS is not over pressurised.. So yeah, basically it’s very workable to spray uPVC with the Ultra QuickShot 💙💯 regards Pete

      @PaintHQ  3 роки тому

      Hey Paul, appreciate your kind words as always 💯 very good question.. yeah as you know I’m a huge fan of airless using the .008 tips to spray manufacturer coatings.. so I’d have to say a compressor setup with the HTE gun, manufacturer materials will go through it like a dream.. nothing against the turbine HVLP ..but they’re loud and the air lines being thicker they can be heavier in the hand .. I do rate XVLP but the extra air can drive you mad blowing the masking off ..This compressor is quality, you get value for money and sprays awesome 😆 ..Great question, hope you’re keeping well my friend 👌👏👍 ..Regards Pete

      Hello my friend, great to hear from you and yeah it’ll be good to meet you at the show 👍 ..Yeah it’s the solvent (original) version by Kolorbond.. they do a waterborne alternative but I gather the Kolorbond Original is preferred.. I’m glad you raised the point about the silicone.. I know I’m opening myself up to questions about that ..I don’t mind, I can take it 😆 ..As you seen I prepped hugely.. but 2 things, it’s actually my front door, so a little test to see how it goes.. and basically I’m a Painter and Decorator at heart, who looks for perfection and I knew with the right tapes I could mask the perfect line.. and it was 👌👍😆 ..Keep in touch, really appreciate your input.. check out the rest of the channel 👌 ..Regards Pete

    Hi Pete, your discovery of Blue Dolphin Rough Surface Exterior Tape is brilliant. I just used it on old bricks to mask up an external door frame, it followed the contours of the bricks and mortar joints very well and gave a really clean line when removed.
    I used Tikkurila Ultra Primer followed by two coats of Ultra Classic on the door and frame. I followed your suggestion and bought FFLP tips (208 for frame, 308 for door), the tips were fine but although I added some water to the Ultra Classic my Graco Ultra Max really struggled with umpteen blockages (which is a pain when you are trying to get a clean pass). I had it on 10, knowing that you max out around 7, and wonder if I should just water it down a bit more? Any guidance always gratefully received.
    With thanks and best wishes, Rob

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  3 роки тому

      Hey Rob, awesome feedback on the Blue Dolphin tape.. yeah it’s really useful to have in your kit, even on other ‘problem’ masking areas when you need that extra bit of grab.. I’ve used the Ultra system myself, great products.. in the scenario where you’re upping the pressure of any sprayer and you get a feeling it’s higher than it should be (possibly still getting tails), or in the case of the handheld, you’re at max 10.. you’re kinda right in thinking of thinning, thinner lower viscosity material going through the smaller size.. but ideally you’d need to up the tip size.. from a .008 to a 0.010.. so in your case a 210 / 310.. that’s why you’re getting the tip blockages too.. I know it’s a pain 🙈 ..by all means you can thin, I just don’t want you to loose the integrity of the paint by thinning too much.. let me know how you get on, always great to hear from you 👍💯

      Haha 😆.. you’re very welcome, always happy to help if I can.. like I say you can try and add that bit more water.. I don’t mean to come across as you need to spend more money, I can appreciate costs add up.. the tips do last though.. I recall you saying you used a 208 and 308.. just a 310 would suit your needs.. what will happen is the 310 is the same volume of material but less concentrated than the narrower 210.. so a 210 you would have to move quicker, the trade off is a 310 is wider so more overspray to contend with.. 12” paper will still be fine though.. hope this helps, I guess it all adds to the understanding how airless and the spray tips work, what happens it all prices together and starts to make sense 😆 .. I’ll eventually put an in-depth video together explaining the tips, not just the widths because that’s a bit more easier to understand, but what happens in terms of the volume of material that is sprayed and how viscosity determines the tip selection 👍👌😆

    • @amanfriday3141
      @amanfriday3141 3 роки тому +1

      @@PaintHQ Many thanks for elaborating Pete.
      Until I got the 208/308 combo I’d used a FFLP 410 and made a real mess with overspray on stair spindles! I’d marvelled how you were happy to use masking paper around door frames without worrying about overspray hitting the walls. Using the 208/308 was delightful as I could see most of the paint was going onto the target. I’ll certainly get both 210/310 so I have more flexibility. Anyway, the client was thrilled at her “new” front door (with no brush marks) which is the main thing.
      There’s a lot more to spraying than I initially thought, and a video, along the lines you suggest, would be brilliant. I’m thinking of putting together a sheet listing paints used, amount of dilution and tip sizes used, so to have something to which to refer on future jobs.
      Many thanks for all your guidance. With best wishes, Rob

      Especially the inside of the windows so the spray doesn’t go inside. What’s your best way when doing windows with openers? I can’t find any videos on UA-cam for this. Thanks 🙏

      Hey Andrew, it’s on my list of videos to produce.. I’ll be spraying all my uPVC windows as soon as I can find a slot in my schedule.. I’ll include taking the window opening out, which in my opinion is the best option in the long run (probably for the ‘issues’ that you may have encountered.. In a comparable way to spraying internal doors and door frames, it’s far easier to take the door off and remove the door furniture than struggle taping up.. you never quite get to spray all the edges easily 🙈 ..Keep going my friend, you’re doing great.. and I’m happy to help all i can.. regards Pete

    • @PaintHQ

      Hey buddy, thank you so much for the kind words of support.. the QTech unit is certainly a popular machine and being a 5 stage turbine, it will have some ‘power’.. I prefer the versatility of the air spray compressor setup, the lighter / more flexible air line, coupled with a regulated pressure pot, you get more dedicated air to the gun.. so you get a lighter, flexible setup for going up a ladder or spraying the intricate features of a kitchen.. then if you desire, in future you could couple the compressor with airless and venture into Air Assisted Airless 👌👍😆 ..Happy to help some more if I can.. let me know how you get on.. regards Pete

    Hey...Great video, you look to have a very professional setup...would love to know what.I'm looking at spraying my own windows but can't decide on what system to use. Do I go compressor and HVLP gravity fed gun (would a 50ltr/14cfm compressor tank do the job??) Or do I look into a HVLP turbine system?? Also got my eye on a Wagner XVLP 5000...so much to choose from....any advice?? Thanks

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Eddie, really appreciate you watching the video and the kind feedback.. more than happy to help, to get you up and running.. With the compressor setup, it’s so versatile and in my opinion you get so much more for your money.. for example the regulated pressure pot/cup in this video is much cheaper than the turbine equivalent.. with a pressure cup you’ll have more manoeuvrability, males life easier up a ladder (you can hook the cup on your belt, or a ladder rung.. with a compressor Vs a turbine, the compressor air line is much thinner and flexible.. a compressor you’ll get more atomising air Vs the ‘legal’ limit of a turbine HVLP.. although solvent based uPVC paints are low viscosity (thinner) so you’ll have no problem spraying with either technology.. regarding the XVLP systems, I very much like the technology.. check out my XVLP video
      ua-cam.com/video/1C2CV8mEWn8/v-deo.html
      ..My issue with XVLP, is the extra air is strong, you really have to make sure your masking is stuck down.. with the extra air, you’re combating how the air can impact the finish.. trick is to use as little air as possible to atomise the material.. what I’ve also found with XVLP (it’s why I would use for uPVC).. when spraying very low viscosity materials, almost like water.. the low density causes a problem with pressuring the pot.. this causes a stop / start spray (very frustrating).. anyone used XVLP, will experience the same problem when cleaning / flushing with water.. it pulses
      The Gentilin compressor in my video is 24 litre with a air delivery of 5 bar, 150 L / min (5.3 CFM).. Do you currently own a compressor?.. Hope this covers your questions, I’m happy to help answer any further questions.. keep in touch my friend, I’m interested to know which you go for.. regards Pete 🎨💯

I’m not sponsored or advertising SpraymanUK in any way, so when I say pop and see us for a chat, I genuinely mean it’ll be great to meet you and try to help.. A guy called Mike from SpraymanUK is very knowledgeable regarding all things spraying, especially compressors 😆 ..The Gentilin I chose was to future proof me, in terms of having the power / CFM to go Air Assisted Airless (basically Airless spraying with the additional air from a compressor).. so it’s very possible you could ‘size down’ for feeding a HVLP / HTE setup.. I’d have to clarify that for you.. but yeah it’ll be a great show, that would benefit you.. Kolorbond are there, and I’m sure various companies in the tapes and masking world.. I can advise you on that too 😆 ..See you there, in the meantime feel free to message anytime.. regards Pete 🎨💯

      Hello my friend, really appreciate you watching the videos and giving the feedback.. Yeah I used Kolorbond Original (which is their ‘original’ solvent based version).. there’s no hardner required, just a real good stir, there is settlement at the bottom of the can.. it is recommended to use kolorbond’s 2 prepping cleaners / degreasers.. ones a WB cleaner that you dilute, the other is a solvent cleaner you use straight out the can.. it sounds like I’m selling the product 😆 ..I’m not.. it’s just a really good product that sprays so well and the cleanup is quick with a generic gun wash (xylene) ..Keep in touch, I’m happy to help any way I can and would love to hear about your successes.. regards Pete 🎨💯
