I purchased some of the large and small icing buckets from Walmart bakery for moving. I needed something secure to put food packages into for climate control storage for a couple of months. I'm now unloading the storage and it's nice to know my food is safe. Of course I will have the buckets for prepping for the inevitable food shortage or winter storms. Stay Safe and God Bless.
Screw on lids??
I did the same thing and now they are selling they but cheap. I have 3 1/2 gal, 2 gal . They are great and I can lift them better as I am 83 and had a stroke 22 yrs ago . All the buckets are very clean . The 3 1/2 buckets hold 25 lbs beans or rice.
Thanks Joyce. I was wondering how much they hold.
Thanks Joyce
You encourage me continue gardening. I'm 72 n got mini stroke 5 years ago. If you still can work on garden at age 83. Hopefully. I can. Best.
Please tell me how you hot the yummy smell out of my 2 gallon bakery buckets, it them often this last time was prewashed. Get labels off. Dishwasher them and use steramine to rinse after washing. I found 5 buckets had the Easter icing smell... gamma says beware not all will fit this s ize. It's worth it though. I use a rubber mallet to seal them with lids that I got with them..
Years ago, a local deli would leave stacks of empty pickle buckets by their dumpster area for people to take for free.
Excellent info!
I'm going to definitely ask next time I'm at Walmart!
I’ve noticed the newer gamma lids have a slightly different screw top and wondered if you had any thoughts on the new design. The only difference I can see is the ridge is deeper on the older one making stacking seemingly more stable. And also the cross part on the top is smooth all the way across on the newer onw
Some of the new ones or should I say,...knock offs...are hard for me to get onto my bucket. Wasnt sure exactly why.
Thanks for the tips !
I just got 2 5 gallon and 3 2 gallon icing buckets from my local bakery free. Just had to pick up and wash. Comes with lids, although I will be looking into replacing with gamma lids in the future
Thats EXACTLY what I do!
No stores give them away or sell them cheap now (2024). You can't even buy them for under $8 now. Same with Gamma lids- average price of these is now closer to $15.😢
Good to know
Many Chinese (or Korean) restaurant also can give away for free.
This bucket for soy sauce or Toufu.
US Plastics has the screw top buckets as well.
Any place that goes through pickles will give them to you for free. I get like ten a week from burger king.
Oh my gosh,. I LOVE this idea! Ill have to check that out🥰
Not here in east Tennessee...ain't nothing free here
Yeah, but how do you get the pickle a
Elk out of them. I’ve had two pickle buckets for over ten years that have held dog food, been used for brining turkeys at Thanksgiving, and a few other things over that time and they still smell of pickles…
@@kevrides5706 The buckets that I use came from the hamburger place and they smell of pickles as well. I wash them really good with hot water, soap and baking soda. After they dry, I'll put tea bags full of baking soda in when I pack my stored items in there. The baking soda will help absorb the pickle smell, but it won't eliminate it.
@@katschrodinger954 try a paper towel with vinegar on it . Works good for my pressure cooker seals
Thank you!
I know here in Washington state I've been getting them from Safeways
not the tracking 😂 but this is a great video 👍
I missed how you got free gama lids . If you gave a coupon worth ten dollars , then you gave ten dollars.
I will be hitting wal-Mart, and Publix stores to find cheap buckets tomorrow!
I hope this works for you! Laat week I went to our local small town store ( which has a bakery) and scored a 1 gallon bucket and 7, 3 gallon buckets. All with rubber rings and tight fitting lids !!!
I am going to try this today
I will go to any store that has a bakery or deli. They almost always have some. The worst they can do is say no! You might get clean ones, or dirty,..but at least they are free or real cheap.
Never seen any gamma lids free.
Thks
I asked Walmart yesterday, and they said they weren't allowed to give away buckets anymore.
That figures 🙄.. maybe a mom-n-pop bakery, deli or restaurant
I asked our Walmart Bakery if they had any Empty Food Grade buckets I could buy... she handed me 3 @ $1 each. She had to print a label for the checkout lane.
Because of videos like this.
I'm in KY & they are $1 each but they have been out of them last 10 times I've ask for them so not that easy to get around here.
How do you get the sweet smell out of the bucket if you want to store things in it
I scrape the icing out with a spatula and theow it away. Then I soak them in my bathtub in hot water with dawn dishsoap and a few drops of bleach. It usually comes out. You will have to find what works best for you. Thanks for watching
GIRL I JUST PAID 27$ I THINK FOR MINE FROM WALMART! UGH BUT THE LID DOES WORK LOL.
Try it out, I have filled my root cellar with them!
For how many?
@@ceejay331 just 1
Grrrr... I have bought just over a hundred at Walmart, $3.96 for the bucket. $1.96 for the lid.
Ohh My! .. Im so sorry. I will check in at the deli/bakery every time Im at the store 🥰
$7.98 for bucket & same for a gamma lid at Lowes.
Got them but I had to pay a 1.00 a piece and stock them last year and they are fine
They are $1 a piece.
you only got 1 free gamma lid but you have 7 buckets 😂 smh
Yup, $1 each, you stole them.
