Only now finding out about these. Buying those spikes for my balcony plants which I leave unwatered for weeks more often than I want to.
Show I throw it out or just sift?
No stores give them away or sell them cheap now (2024). You can't even buy them for under $8 now. Same with Gamma lids- average price of these is now closer to $15.😢
Not at Home Depot. My total cast was $6.36 for both
Watch with the dyes with your son. And caffeine.
Thanks for this very helpful video
Bro give him a like if you go to Dollywood
It scares you when you're not expecting it...but VERY LOUD!
How loud is the Dollywood Express’s whistle?
I know here in Washington state I've been getting them from Safeways
one of my favorite mushrooms, i collect giant puffball recipes
one of my favorite mushrooms
One tip is to soak these before putting into the soil. Help them from breaking and if they’re dry at first they may suck moisture out of the soil for a bit.
Thanks for the great info, I'd already heard of the freezer method and I've been using for a few years. It definitely seems to work. I freeze pretty much everything, rice, flour, pasta and I have not found any critters since I started doing it. Great thumbnail pic, I was laughing at the seemingly printed bugs on your bag..... may as well have been labelled Bug Feed! Thanks again for the tips and tricks!
Its' kinda funny being mad that you didn't find the $20 ones first time. And I would be too. But it's kinda nothing in the grand scheme of things. People pay $5 for a coffee at Starbucks and then piss it away. These spikes are an investment that will save you time and effort. Like one time I drove to a different Crappy Tire to buy firestarters because the one near me didn't have the ones I like. Or rather they had them, but in a box instead of the package and it ends up being 16 cents instead of 12 cents per. But like, how much did I spent on gas to go to the other store lol? Anyway you cut these types of things are better money spent some of the other crap people buy.
I hate them So much 😢 like three weeks ago i finally Went through all my kitchen And pantry And threw Away 90% of the stuff i had, everything that was open or had thin packaging, ive let the bug infestation go on for a while cuz i was depressed but Now i really cleaned it perfectly, sprayed it with insecticide, then with food moth natural spray And wiped everything, bought new flour pasta etc And transferred it into airtight containers , And Still i keep finding these little Black bugs in my kitchen! Sometimes dead sometimes they Still crawl around my countertop. It makes me seriosly anxious 😢
Do you have an update on the herbs
i bought 5 gallon buckets with special lids and also bags i'll put the flour into before i put into bucket :)
Excellent info!
I think because my house is old weevils can come in through cracks in the home😢😭
When you have those containers and still got weevils 😭
Where are you finding big bags of flour like that?! I can’t find it!
Amish Stores 😊
The white is called albuben. 😊
So after freezing, What do you do if there are dead bugs in your flour?
Shouldnt be any..but if there is you can sift them out. Thats what ol timers did
Thks
Your awesome a Macgyver bugs on food
If you don't seal the ends of the lid handle it's not air tight the ones from Tractor Supply are famous for leaks at the handles if you don't believe that run water on the lid it leaks I stored poultry feed out doors when it rains water sleeps in 💯 I didn't check the side handles but there probably air leaks there also
If it's dead, it won't run away. But freezing doesn't definitely kill.
Your hair looks great and matches the librarian glasses very well. Waiting to see what you create!
Looks like a fun project! Exchanging the air in the tent frequently should help to fight mold. You have a really nice setup!!!! I used a tote with some holes drilled in the sides, half-filled with moistened perlite.
Thank You!
Those pink filters are inadequate, get some carbon filters, they are meant for chemicals. Its a multilayer cartridge for smaller particulate protection. Good luck👍😁
I can show a cheaper hippy way 😮 love ya . Great video
Thank You
I grew alot of mushrooms in my day. If u bleach walls etc and be super cleam. Just the out side from contaminants from getting in
❤
Thank You
I'm trying the Freezer method for Rice. but i just could have put the Rice in Mylar bags with Oxygen Absorbers. The Rice method is kind of a pain; you have to let the rice dry before storing. Im going to try spreading the Rice on a Towel and run a fan over the Rice to make sure its dried.
Don't tell me you eat the dead bugs !!!!!!!!!
How do you remove the dead bugs out of the bag after they freeze?
It's been a year since you shared this fantastic video. I am wondering whether you still love the spikes, and any new learnings. Also, I watched a video review where someone said that the weight of the liter-size glass wine- bottle will break the terracotta spike quite often after about 3 or 4 months. Has that been your experience?
Bay leaves kill flour bugs???
I missed how you got free gama lids . If you gave a coupon worth ten dollars , then you gave ten dollars.
Even if you kill bugs and larvae, are we eating dead bugs?😢
I just got 2 5 gallon and 3 2 gallon icing buckets from my local bakery free. Just had to pick up and wash. Comes with lids, although I will be looking into replacing with gamma lids in the future
Thats EXACTLY what I do!
So how many of you would sift your flour or toss it if you had a weevil infestation?
I would sift..because Im frugal and thats what they did years ago. Things are too expensive or hard to get to be throwing it away
Galvanized cans will for sure keep rats and mice out of your stored goods. They do have a very tight lid (on quality made cans), but not air tight so humidity levels in your pantry area must be kept as low as you can. Don't have the freezer space to freeze 50 pounds of anything, or space to store 50 pounds of flour, so we use a vacuum food sealer, placing 2-1/2 pounds of flour into brown paper lunch bags, fold over and tape, then into vac bags for a hard vac pack. If doing 5 pounds at a time, just leave in the factory bag. The hard vac kills any critters hiding in the flour.
Where do you buy them from?
I often buy flour in autumn for the year. I put the packaged product in a 5 gallon heavy plastic pail. I leave them for a few months in an outdoor shed, where it gets to minus 40 for a few weeks. I have a question, do you ever worry about condensation (from freezing) and what do you do about it?
Because the freezer is in my basement...I just take bag out and let it get room temp for a day or two then store
Ma'am, can flour be protected from insects in a flour bag? Tell me soon
Thanks. This helped me a lot. And you’re beautiful!
Good to know
Yup, $1 each, you stole them.
