    I lost my mother at 4. My father became so important to me but I could never express it. I was afraid of what would happen if I put it into words. I’m in my 70s now and this song still stirs my emotions. Thank you for reacting to it.

    This song always makes me cry. Daddy's like this song speaks of are the best sort of Dadys. Daddy like mine, like my late husband are that sort of Daddys. The very best. Miss them dearly. Always. My Daddy would pull the covers back so I could crawl in beside him. I was a mess and just wanted to sleep with Mama and Daddy. When I was a little girl, Daddy's girl, when Daddy got home from work I would run and launch myself off the porch and he never missed. He always caught me. Later when I was a Teen and young adult he still always caught me when I had a miss step.
    I am in close proximity to Nashville and have always been proud to be from here.

    Hey, Don. As always, another great analysis. You are spot on about the impact that a parent's words have on their child. Gary Barr wrote this in 1987, one year after his dad died. The entire song is about him and his relationship with his dad, right down to the mirror in the hall.
    Jewish parents have a powerful weapon in motivating their kids to achieve much. It's called, "The Blessing." When a boy or girl turns 13, they are given a bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah. It signifies the child's passing from childhood into adulthood. The parents stand before family and friends. They lay their right hand of blessing on their child and tell those witnesses that their child is bone of their bone, flesh of their flesh and blood of their blood. They state how proud of that child they are and prophesy the great success they will achieve in his or her life. That ceremony galvanizes and empowers that kid. It is powerful in what it demonstrates to a young person. Our children need and want to know that we care and that they matter. We need to show it and say it, continuously. That is, indeed, our job. Thanks for covering this classic. By the way, a misdiagnosis caused Conway's early demise.

    I've never heard this song, but already knew it, as my husband sang it to all of our children growing up. So many old country songs he sang, we all know the words to, but didn't ever hear them until rare opportunities come up like this one. Makes me smile. Thanks Don!

      Yeah. That was his original hit. To understand Conway Twitty, you must understand that in the 50s and early 60s he was in rock-n-roll / rockabilly, before transitioning to country. Like Elvis, he was from Mississippi, and close in age. Explains why he has so much soul and blues in his voice.

    Well Don ---- you got it again... 100%. I enjoyed listening to your take on it. Conway [Harold Jenkins] my wife's most fav of all time. Started his career in Rock... oddly enough --- Conway's sound/voice was/is eerily similar to the ever so popular Elvis ... at times hard to tell them apart! Guess the world wasn't so enthused with 2 voices so similar --- Conway switched over to country music and the rest is history. ---- This song, for me, hit(s) hard for me probably early 30's till the present... couldn't have been written or sung any better!!!

    You're supposed to shed the tears when you hear the third verse. It's how this kind of song is structured. But for me, it's the second verse that always leaves at least one tear on my cheek. I had that exact conversation with my dad, almost word for word. Left home at 19 and worried what would happen if things didn't work out. Dad told me to listen to that song "That's My Job."

    I still remember where I was when I found out Conway passed. I had been out drinking all night. On my way home the radio played several songs in a row by him. I assumed it might have been his birthday. Then finally announced his passing

  • @lukebroadbent4935
    @lukebroadbent4935 5 років тому +4

    I had to come back to this one. This reaction introduced me to the song so I added it to my MP3 player. I've listened to it a few times and I think it is great. Today I was walking home listening to it and I had tears running down my face. People walking past must have wondered what was going on.
    My dad is still here but, man, have I lived the first two verses. The first verse in particularly hit me. I remember a time when I was probably about 8 or 9 and my dad used to go out every Sunday and he'd get back at around 11:00 at night. For whatever reason I wasn't sleeping and it had got to around 11:15-11:30 and I became convinced something had happened to him so I went downstairs and waiting by the window for him. The first verse of this song brought that image and feeling back like t was crystal clear and I was living it again. I couldn't help but cry, even if it was in the middle of the street.

    • @RockN2Country
      @RockN2Country  5 років тому

      @Luke Broadbent That's powerful stuff man, and no shame in feeling something deep like that. The older I get, the easier I tear up at certain things, especially if I'm by myself. When I'm out with folks I keep it under wraps, but if something makes me think of my daughter (who's doing fine) I'll have a tear or two come out. It's a beautiful part of life to feel that stuff, even though it can hurt a little, too.

      @Yeti tracker 66 I'm in same boat as you, but am experiencing a genre that's still new to me, and am doing it on camera and have taken some hits along the way--ha!! But not too bad--most folks have been kind to me. The beauty of reactions videos is that you get to choose which songs you want to do and how you want to set up your reactions. Most reactors stop songs as they're thinking of things, some wait till the end of a song to make comments, others talk right over the songs. So there's a personal touch to it, and if you did a mix of music that could work depending on how you present it and yourself. Some folks cuss a lot, some just a little, others don't cuss at all. And so on. But you have to be consistent with doing videos on a particular schedule so your subs and lurkers can depend on you to do something. I'll definitely check you out if you get into it. Where you start probably isn't where you'll end up. I started doing Nashville country, and then started getting requests for other artists and haven't looked back. I still like some of the music coming out of Nashville, but I've seen the light. Ha!!

    Esp when he sings "Tight Fitting Jeans"
    Oh the memories that flood in, every time I hear this song!! My Daddy has been singing this to me since I was old enough to remember. I've been wanting to hear your review on this, but avoided it for a bit due to emotions. My Dad is battling stage 4 stomach/esophagus cancer, so it's hard to hold back my emotions when I hear things like this. I'm such a Daddy's girl, and we've always had such a strong relationship, that he's literally said "that's my job" every time I ever tried to say "Thank you" to him. Getting to take him to the Hank Jr concert, hearing him sing the whole time and seeing him beaming with joy... All I could think was "that's my job, now" ❤️❤️❤️ (sorry, I'm usually not very emotional, but this one hit hard!)
    Thanks Don! 😉

    Very good reaction. Unfortunately, what seems to get lost in reaction videos is the fact that, as much I as I truly love Conway Twitty, he’s singing a song written by someone else. The comments are usually about the reaction to the performance and delivery, of course, but, in particular, to the lyrics. Conway Twitty didn’t write this song - Gary Burr did. And he wrote many other great songs. So, please, please, just consider thes as constructive criticism, in the best sense, and set yourself apart by addressing the songwriters’ contribution and give them credit by naming them. Peace.

    It's great to have a song about a fathers love, my dad was a single parent and raised me alone. Conway does a beautiful job right from the intro. Now I am a father of 4.

      UPDATE , my dad passed away this past June and I played this song at his funeral. This song brings a tear to my eyes more now then ever. He always told me he loved me which I have passed on to my kids.
