Ppl been using g.o.a.t. for a long time now. To my knowledge, it started with skateboard/bmx/motocross culture, and stuck. B.o.a.t. would be better, but not as funny. And considering the source, (just think of all the oddball names for the tricks in those sports, and you can see that humor plays a big factor in nicknaming) I think g.o.a.t. is quite suitable
So surprised how honest he was, that he hated lots of it...amazing honesty compared to so many pro athletes and celebrities who are rather fake and only give canned respones. Respect to him.
Kelly Slater is an incredible person
Still charging huge, scary surf. Back in 84 @ the pier in Cocoa Beach he surfed (and beat) the men's division champ (Todd Holland) & the pro division champ (Matt Kechly) in 6 to 8 foot waves that were double over head (for Kelly) when he was just 12. He shredded then and STILL shreds. His agility is second to none, EVER. Thanks from another CB local in his 50's.

Simply the best! He was a role model way back in the early 90,s at Cocoa Beach high school and just never stopped. I can't help but get really emotional myself over this because Kelly took a moment back in 92 right after his 1st world title and asked a nobody (me) to help world champion (him) paint a beach scene mural on the cafeteria window of our school. A memory I'll never forget. To see him now makes me so damn proud of him!

Heart-breaking when Kelly said he "hated lots of it" then I thought about how long this man has had to live with a "target" on his back... then it made sense to me .... the mental endurance over all these years is phenomenal...Good onya mate,,,that was something special
He never once said he was going to retire, he left the door completely open , he might still show up to sunset tomorrow .
Maybe he just said goodbye to Pipeline…maybe he is on his farewell tour?

That was amazing! The GOAT 🐐! Just an unbelievable feat. Can you imagine another person performing in a professional sport at the age of 50 at this level? I can't think of a single one....Tom Brady is another GOAT who played his sport much, much longer than most..

The difference between Kelly and other sports people is they have opposition but Kelly has mother nature as well against him Kelly has a moment in time that will forever be history not just a champion but a truly unique human it's his moment but he shared it with the late Andy iron's and his partner and son what a great man
