Video games aren't bad at all. They teach a lot as well. Hand eye coordination, team work, social skills. They get a bad rap because it's an easy scapegoat but they aren't bad. Yes these kids are learning a lot but cell phones and tablets are worse for kids their age than video games are.
Great teamwork getting those jobs done, so nice to see the kids getting stuck in and having fun after the work is done. Can't wait for the next episode.
Your father is amazing.... teaches you to work together and practice doing something using the right tools. In many places, including Indonesia, many children are busy with their respective gadgets so they don't remember when to eat, sleep and study. Greetings from Indonesia
So glad you are able to teach your little ones how to build things. Such great lessons in life. We ourselves grew up helping our parents on projects around the house which gave us the skills to do almost everything in life ourselves. Also, great that you are able to teach them proper ways to use power tools so then the time comes for them to use them without you around, they are confident and safe doing so. Right on mate!
I subbed back when was just 900 or so subs and always thought you guys deserved to grow and just needed to break that algorithm of you tube! I think you found and hopefully all my comments here and there and I would share to my messenger to help get you shares. You guys deserve a good following as your a wonderful family with great values.
Lubricate exposed /corroded fasteners with release oil in advance of trying to tighten them or they are likely to sheer off the bolt or stud. Best still wire brush the threads spray...leave to penetrate ..remove and re assemble.. 😉 that way if anything snaps after tightening or testing you have a better chance of getting it off than on the water in rough conditions. The soap inside is anti corrosive paste.... to limit the corrosion. Mechanical connections are usually less prone to corrosion and dry joints when soldering. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften old hard hi tack waterproof adhesives. WD 40 or GT85 will also dissolve a lot of adhesives. But then you need to clean that off if you want to fix anything else on it.
You can stabilise the surface of the old chain in storage by dropping it in phosphoric acid .. a standard corrosion treatment ...it reduces Rust ..Iron Ferrous Oxide back to solid Ferric oxide ...which is black. Lanolin oil....natural wool oils, is a non polluting way of protecting metals against corrosion in storage.
@@sailingwithsix Living in the UK and working with old bikes and cars etc means i have half a century of busting my knuckles and bumping other parts on rusty bits of metal.. and hunting down dodgy electrical connections. 😂🇬🇧
Your kids are really a big help and seem to mix fun into the work projects! Why did you choose the flexible panels instead of the thicker raised type? So glad you got the old ones off, but shame on whoever “glued” them down!
We chose flexible because we still walk on those parts of the roof and flexible was more cost effective. Hopefully we can add some solid panels over the stern in the future 😊
Great work guys. You've probably worked this out already but the solar connections (negative to positive) could be because the panels are connected in series or series/parallel. It's nearly always a nightmare inheriting someone else's homemade electrical set ups. Hope it's all working well now. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your adventure.
Really loving this channel and how the family chips in. You’re using flexi solar so this may not be true, but one of the other channels used corrugated plastic sheets under there solar with corrugations lined bow to stern to allow airflow underneath. This allows the panels to be cooler and operate more efficiently.
O'kellys on their cat...if it holds up its a good improvised budget fix. The real way is to use water cooled hybrid panels. For a massive jump in efficiency and life spans. PVT panels ua-cam.com/video/vzRTtaDVVW0/v-deo.html No bull technical examination and explanations. The kids have pure surfer beach hair..😎👍🏼
Some of the panels we removed had the coreflute or corrugated sheets underneath. We couldn’t access it in the part of the world we were working on the solar so we put lines of sikaflex which offers a similar solution to create airflow underneath.

Hello from Arizona again guys! FYI feel free to reach out if you need anything from across the border. Happy to have an excuse to come down to Rocky Point again!
The electric part looks fun. You basically have 2 victron systems. 1 being the multiplus (it's it's own master) and the other being the three... wait a minute. I was going to say the three Phoenix Inverters. But looking more closely... I think the third is also a multiplus? So you have 2 times a Phoenix Inverter (acting as just on 6k inverter I guess on 230v) and 2 multiplus working together (acting as a 6k inverter & charger or they work in split phase with 3k on each phase and they probably are 120v). Hope you will do a more in depth video on it once you figured it out. :-) Thanks for taking us along your journey. Have lots of fun and good luck!
@@sailingwithsix Yes, had to pause the video for a minute to get a closer look at the writing on the blue boxes. To understand the setup being 2 & 2 and not the 1 & 3 as it looked like by the placing in the boat. The part I wrote isn't that difficult. Seen the products on the Victron website before. So I knew were to look for the product names / types and what they mean. (They even have a nice drawing on the front of what they do.) I'm sure you had to do the more difficult part in understanding how the two work together. 🙂 Are they connected directly to the same 12 volt battery bank/system? But it shows your kids, you are never to old to learn. 😀
No we knew that we might need to replace one or two but not all of them. However we chose to spend the money and do the upgrade on this to improve the overall solar efficiency.
Kute kids, I born with 4 brother's & sisters, always fights. Did you cut all them out from the video?? Or really are they so peacefully, only always pure harmony. Unfortunelly the World are not like that. But a ruf place.
6:21 Is that how the ladder "accidentally" fell on Pip? You guys should REALLY invent some less vivid games for kids. Growing up chasing crocodiles and sparring with kangaroos is fun but greatly reduces the chances of survival.
I think sailor kids learns much more than school kids! They learn when and what their brains are experiencing or needing at that moment!
So true! So much additional learning along the way!!
Your kids are learning some valuable life lessons. Teamwork, family, survival, and how the real world works without video games.
Thanks Richard

The crew proving its mettle. Working clever, working hard. Will those solar panels _ever_ come off?? Team Fothergill for the win.

Nice to see that you teach your children with hands on, like with the drill. All 4 had a try even if they needed help to hold it.

Great video. I love seeing the nitty gritty of boat repair and upgrades. Who inspected all the sails and rigging? God Bess y’all.

The water outflow from the outboard looks a bit weak, maybe worth checking/replacing the impeller.
next time spray goo gone then cover it with plastic wrap. leave it for 1 to 2 hrs then scrap off in seconds
