Hi everyone. I just love playing with stripes. I wish I had more of them in my stash to play with. I might have to start stealing some shirts to make myself a nice scrappy quilt with. I hope this video inspires you to dive into your stash and use your striped fabric. And don't forget. The first 1000 people who click the link will get 2 free months of Skillshare Premium: skl.sh/justgetitdonequilts0820
I just love all of your videos! I enjoyed your video on budget tips however I would love to see a video on “worth the splurge” whether it’s fabric, notions, machines, storage, classes, retreats, anything sewing. Sometime cheaper is not better and I would love to see your thoughts on the topic.
I love your videos but it broke my heart that in order to get my free two months I would have to enter all my credit card info. Of course I didn’t do that, but it’s not free if I forget to cancel and I am charged. This is a marketing ploy done by many. I was very sad to see this. I love all of your videos. But didn’t care for this technique being used for membership.
@@annablock8037 I agree. I signed up for Skillshare and discovered there weren't that many classes they offered that I was interested in. I immediately cancelled my free membership so I wouldn't forget later.
Just Get it Done Quilts, loved this video on triangles, as they are a favorite shape for me. You gave me ideas that have never occurred to me before, and I always like that! (Just a side note, “equilateral” is spelled that way, NOT “equAlateral.”)
When I started watching this video, I was thinking "How much can one possibly have to say about striped fabric." After watching, I now consider this one of the most useful & informative quilting videos I've watched in my 4 years of quilting! Well done and thank you!
Does your brain stop my friend? I think you have taught me more about quilting through your videos than I have learned in 40 years of quilting. Truly many things I have not even thought of!
Was waiting for the puns....it took less than 1’30 seconds! Loved that you tackle topics no one else touches on! Great video Karen! Another to watch several times (or more)!!!!
Of course it took you longer to do this video!!😂. Because you give such detailed, well explained information... ALWAYS!!! 🙌🏻. Thank you for the great stripe lesson!
I am new to quilting and sewing in general I’m only 15 but I’ve already bought a sewing machine a beginner one of course and my grandma shows for a living now she used to do it as a hobby and she’ll let me use all of her fabrics and her quilting machine so all of your videos telling me a different quilt patterns and everything are really helpful so I can learn something new while I’m not allowed to see my grandma as often during quarantine
So happy for you. You now have a hobby to last you for the rest of your life. No matter what Hobbies you take up in your future, sewing will be what you always go back to. I started sewing at age 12 and I’m 78 and I’ve never stopped. Like many people who watch these videos, I’ve made curtains for many homes over the years, A lot of home decor items. I have done tailoring and made my husbands suits and my kids clothes many years ago. Sewing is a very Zen thing. Your mind is on what you’re working on and not on what other problems you might have in your life. It’s been what has gotten many of us through the worst of the pandemic. I started quilting 22 years ago. So you’re never too old to learn. Enjoy your new sewing machine and your new hobby. Hugs
I just love she Karen Brown the queen of quilting says "show" right after she says says show there us a little whistle which I find very adorable and precious and I wish that she never stops making videos on quilting because if is just so interesting and helpful
What a wonderful way to start off my day,,, getting vertigo from watching your stripes! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 More great info to inspire me,, thanks a ton. Please tell your son that you’re both in our prayers.. Love from Ohio ! 👍😎
You are a ray of sunshine Karen. Have I told you how much I love your videos? Thank you for taking the time to post all of your wonderful knowledge aka tips tools etc on your UA-cam channel. Be well and thank you always ♥️💛~Martha~
Karen-Thank you for recommending SkillShare. I used your link, and not only did I get 2 free months, but I was able to opt in to a great deal of just $59 for my first year (at the bottom of the checkout page). What a bargain! Thank you for all of your wonderful videos and everything that your teach/share here.
CORRECTION: The $59 per year deal does not include 2 free months. That little detail was not made clear during the signup process. However, I still think it's a great deal..
It's a good idea, using shirts. Only problem with it for me is that my husband never wears striped shirts, but then I never wear striped blouses either.
Karen, What a legend you are. I have never thought about stripes in this way before. It really made me think. You had great ideas too, which you are so generous to share. Thankyou.
My favorite thing to do with stripes is to make the binding tape. Either on an angle, or with horizontal lines. It looks especially nice on Christmas quilts because it can look like candy cane.
I love this one Karen. Not only is it packed with information, it was so pleasant to watch. Audio was very good, music level was not overbearing, lighting was so nice and you look great. Thank you.
Every time I watch one of your videos I think that this is the best one yet, but this one is really the BEST YET. So many wonderful suggestions and examples of using stripes! I may only buy striped fabric from now on😉 Thank you so much for the time an effort it took to make this wonderful tutorial. I learned so much from it and will go ack to it often for my “next quilt” inspirations!
What great ideas! Karen, you give so much useful information! I usually just rummage through those bits of striped fabric in my stash, and toss them to the side. No more!
I found this fascinating even though I’m not a quilter other than rag quilts. I have great respect for quilters. Maybe I’m a future quilter! Thank you for this video!
My guild challenge this year is to do something with stripes. Thanks Karen for all the ideas. I will have to re-watch this video many times as I design my entry!
I think your videos are well done and very informative. Always look forward to seeing a new one coming out. Thank you so much. God bless and keep you and your family well and safe.
I like them for bindings, period. I cut them on the straight of grain so the “wrap” around the edge of the quilt. In particular, a black and white stripe on a super-scrappy, brightly colored can look great. The prize is a fabric with diagonal stripes. It give the slant-y effect without the work of a diagonal binding.
Dorothy Young I agree. I finally realized that stripes are amazing for bindings. Once the perfect binging for a quilt I made using Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements happened to be from my landscape stash. It was a muted ‘wood’ I had with houses in mind for it. Well cut it made a perfect muted stripe fabric. Since then, I found that I tuck some stripes in quite a few quilts. Actually I, making a pattern right noe called Smooth Sailing. I’m sprinkling some stripe fabrics in fir the pieced sails. Happy quilting
Vielen Dank für die Anregungen. Die Art und Weise den Stoff für die nachfolgenden Arbeiten zu zuschneiden sind so interessant. Ich bewundere Ihre Phantasie und Ihr Können ....
Love it! I’ve been enamored of stripes and have a tub full. I am gonna do a quilt based on your tips. They all are great. I even signed up for skillshare on the strength of this video. Thank you for all you do. And hooray for your family and son after this nightmare. I lost my dad to lymphoma and it was heartbreaking. 👵🏻🌞🌺💐🌷🌹
As a beginner in sewing, with an interest in learning quilting, I really appreciate your channel and videos. You explain things very clearly, you're a joy to watch, and I love that you aim your channel towards explaining things so we can create what WE want to and not what TPTB expect us to want to make. Thank you, Karen!
Wow, Karen! So many fabulous ideas! I have a few of those rulers and , of course, an embarrassing stash of striped fabrics. This is inspiration indeed. Thank you x
I’ve been looking forward to seeing a video that specifically deals with stripes (yes, I have purchased them because I thought they were so pretty) - had no clue on how to work with them, so they have sat for YEARS. Now, I have a plan! I appreciate all your hard work to teach and show us! Stay well Karen!
I have enjoyed ALL your videos and all the tips... you are inspirational for sure. Thank you for all you do. I look forward to each video you share.. so just a simple, and long winded thank you!
I have been watching your videos for a while now, but still finding new and most helpful info! Thank you so much for the time you put into this, so many of us would be lost without your great teaching skills and enthusiastic attitude! Love you lots!
I love what you do with stripes! For me, it looks difficult. I think I’ll photo copy my striped fabric and work from the paper first!! Thanks for the time you put into your teaching and tips! You are one of the graces I’ve been blessed with during Covid.
Very informative and inspirational ...loaded with a ton of ideas. As I watched, I felt like I was a gamer developing my reaction time....hitting pause so I could view and enjoy the plethora of kaleidoscopic options you presented. Really enjoyed and learned a lot....thank you and skill share, too.
Excellent tutorial on stripes!! You answered a lot of my questions and I have a boatload of stripe fabric in my stash and of course they don't go with anything. Now I can get busy and empty a large tub of stripes. Thank you!!!
WOW...tons of information... I'll have to watch THIS one over and over again... thanks for all your time, energy and work on your videos...much appreciated
Thank you for this master class in using fabric with stripes in quilting. Sorry it took a lot of editing time. Results are an encyclopedic run-down of possibilities. Excellent. I just avoided a piece of fabric with stripes yesterday! Ha.
Karen, You've done it again in producing a video that is lively and yet very comprehensive. You've manage to compress so much information on how to handle stripes in just a few minutes. I don't know how you do it, but you do it consistently. Thanks, I've tended to stay away from stripes when buying fabric. There are a couple of patterns that I've used stripes in where I've had to be precise in cutting the stripe. One pattern, a windmill block, only requires one strip of cloth 2"X14". Stripe easily work into this either going vertically or horizontally against the white background fabric. Mostly I've just used stripes in squares of various sizes, but haven't had to worry about what type of stripe I had as it would be simply a random scattering of striped squares throughout the top so matching didn't matter. The way you have shown matching in developing a square is marvelous. Again, thank you for good instructions and great examples.
Just started to get into quilting during quarantine and you are hands down the most pleasant to watch and thorough in all of your videos. Thank you for all of your time sharing your craft!
Thank you for such an inspiring, informative video about STRIPES! Please continue to take all the time you need to create your videos. The results are well worth the wait!
Good morning ☕ now u have some ideas on what to do with my dad's shirts I've been saving..was afraid to cut them but you have given me inspiration..thank you once again for being an inspiration to us all
Great information! Stripes can be so tricky. The results are often unexpected in a good way, but sometimes not so much. This will definately be a good resource to reference back to. Thank you!
