Janet Jackson is an amazing underrated actress. She got her start on a tv show called “Good Times” when she was a child.
What's amazing about her acting is that she transitioned from a style used more on stage, like they did on good times, to a more modern subtle style.
The pain in her voice when she said “Stop it!” is so visceral, it gives me goosebumps
That kitchen scene with her and her husband was the best scene for me !

Me too. I like their analysis of Tyler Perry as a character developer and recognize his background as a playwright, not just a film actor and director. I'm also happy with the order of exploration so far. They are starting to get the inside jokes that keep the fan base coming back to the Perryverse--even the bad ones.

Omg y'all MUST watch "the family that preys". Kathy Bates is in it and has a different type of villain than this and "diary of a mad black woman". It's truly, in my opinion, one of Tyler Perry's best.
"The Family That Preys" is definitely a must watch and is my favorite Tyler Perry movie as well. Something about was just different from the rest and feel that way about this one as well. There's a maturity that some of the Madea movies tend to lack.

What’s funny is how fast he attacked her when it was him but was hiding when he thought he gave it to her.
I think it was that combined with her non stop mental abuse that sent him over the age for that split second

It was probably that realization COMBINED with the non stop demeaning that made him finally snap.
Yeah he probably snapped because of the constant belittling, but also because he didn't expect her to cheet first.
I always interpreted that scene as Angela just being petty and not that she actually cheated.
This made me remember when the era where Tyler Perry was actually putting out consistently good work. I think recently, it's moreso that he started recycling a lot of the themes, spreading himself too thin and it's more like its coming off an assembly line. But yea, the early work actually holds up well.
I swear every black house hold can recite that table scene word for word and not stutter one time, and I’ll say it Angela was the only real friend she knew what was going on and wanted to say something way sooner call me the drama because I would’ve straight snitched. Also michael jai white is super nice I recommend watch Blood and bone starring him and Dante Basco or Jake long from American Dragon.
Side note: I honestly appreciate you guys actually listen to us and take the time to read through your comments we NEVER see the bigger channels react to these movies and it’s a shame they are gems and have great life lesson, they touch real life issues, and rather your black or not I think a lot of people can relate to the issues Tyler brings to light with his plays/movies! So again thank you we appreciate you both ❤
If you’re not familiar with them, The OctoKrool channel is good too. I stumbled across them a few years ago and subscribed because they were reacting to a lot of our “hood” classics. It started as a gaming channel but if you scroll back to the start of their third year they reacted to Boyz N The Hood and after that they reacted to a lot of Black classics.

Are you going to react to the sequel next? Michael Jackson died during the filming of this film and Tyler Perry told her if she wanted to leave, he understands, but she refused and went back to filming after the funeral, which shows how brave this woman is. Out of all the movies, Why Did I Get Married Too is her best performance.
i didnt know that. The fact she stayed with her committment is something else but on top of that. The fact tyler was understanding if she left the production.
@@billclay9489 I know. Janet talked about it on Oprah while she was promoting the film and that was really sweet for him to do. He also changed the ending because of Michael's death. It was supposed to be a funeral scene but Tyler scraped it because he felt the scene would be too mich for Janet to bare, which goes to show good a person he is.
Her anger scene, with the gulf clubs was awesome, i thought a lot of the tears and anger was about Michael's death

I appreciate you taking the time to view Tyler Perry's films. He gets a lot of criticism for his depiction of flawed Black men. And "Black culture". But at the core, he has found a formula for taking the subjects we don't normally face or discuss. And with a sense of humor. He always ends on a positive note.
It’s not explained in detail in this movie but Sheila had been abused by Mike for years. Physically and mentally. So much so that she can’t remember any of the normal couple achievements like moving in together, etc. as something happy because he always spoiled them for her. So when you picked up on the fact that she wanted to do normal couple things, that’s the hidden tragedy of her story. That she wasn’t given even an iota of that because Mike didn’t care for her as a human being or a wife. Also, Angie and Marcus are the stars of a spin-off tv series called For Better or Worse where they’re older (like around their 40s-50s). Angie has mellowed out a bit but there are still some contention in their relationship. The show mainly focuses on the rest of the cast but it’s pretty good and discusses things like HIV, domestic abuse, sexual identity, parenthood, and even cancer.

This is definitely one of Tyler Perry's top tier films! I recommend you all watch part 2 which is equally great. I like that he portrays real issues people face in marriage and how they can overcome them in a healthy manner. It's refreshing to see black people in successful careers, living good lives with a tight circle of friends. Believe it or not, there are not many movies like this representing the black community.

Stellar cast this film has. It's so well-written and emotional.
My girl gained a little weight after college, as a therapist she’s usually sitting and talking all day…but from the Carolinas and out doorsy and likes to hike, so that means my black Floridian axx gotta get out there and hike with her too if she’s trying to get up her steps, so be it. Plus after I can get on Warhammer, she gets to Zelda on the switch and we enjoy a meeeeaaaan axx steak and Brussels sprouts. Good times, Mike just a F Bwai lol😂

Michael Jai White went to my high school in Connecticut and the one time that I decided to skip school he decided to show up 😭😭😭😭 I graduated high school 11 years ago and I’m still mad at myself for skipping out on a chance to meet him. The next day I went to school everyone said he was really nice so I think you should say ‘Hi’ next time 😊

“They didn’t work it out! What a surprise it’s an indie movie!” That’s hilarious and so spot on! Marriage Story was absurdly intense. I like that Tyler Perry knows he’s not Scorsese nor is he trying to be. He understands that some people just go to movies to just enjoy the movie and move on right after.
Seen this movie a thousand time, one of my favorite scene is the dinner scene where Shelia grabs the bottle and hits mike head, then Angela said I hope he’s dead favorite scene.

Maturing is realizing that Angela was just tryna be a true and honest friend, there for you through tears and ready to kick a** if need be.
You guys should check out the sequel to this it’s awesome and just as intense. It shows more of Mike and his character growth. I feel like he was written like this on purpose to focus on Shelia’s growth. But in the second movie it shows another side of them and their relationship. The sequel has similar but completely different lessons within it as well.

How they handled the baby conversation I felt it wasn’t handled well and no apologies on his part for being sneaky with his wife’s career with that phone call, dismissing her when she valid concern of being upset, breaking her phone, and basically losing her body autonomy and career bc it’s a “we” thing. It sounded less like compromise and sorry you gonna have this kid regardless bc we are married and that is the compromise you have to make if you are. Like that should’ve been further discussed….
Marcus was boosting himself as a good man when if she never admitted (also theory out that she just said that to save face) to own affair. He is left with cheating with his kids mom that he is in constant communication with, catching something without disclosing it to his partner, acting all “it makes no sense” that his kids mother thinks they have something more than discussing kids when they slept together anyways, and acts all indignant like boy you ain’t innocent either.
I really like Sheila & Troy and Gavin & Patricia. Now for the second movie lowkey I consider that non canon cause oooooooooooh oooooooh

You guys should check out a film and a character that Michael Jai White created called" Black Dynamite" The movie came out in 2009 and it was a spoof film so no one thought it was going to be as good as it was but it was incredible. So incredible that it got its own cartoon on adult swim with a big budget and Michael Jai White is one of the writers
