I am a flipper out of Richmond. It literally breaks my heart when I have to paint over mahogany. Thank for showing me this trick! I am so excited woodgrain is coming back in.
Your dark toning of wood and hardware, and salving the interior surfaces make it exceptionally beautiful. You're very talented. Great to see that wood finishes are back.
Your work is exceptional. I really appreciate that you make appropriate decisions regarding how to restore a wonderful piece of furniture. I’m glad that you do not automatically paint all wood surfaces! Thank you so much. I always enjoy your videos.
I absolutely love real the stained wood. Last winter I seriously debated to either paint or refinish my 32 oak kitchen cabinets that had turned orange over the years from poly. I ended up stripping, sanding, and bleaching them then restaining with golden oak. Nope they didnt go back red or orange. They turned out a gorgeous yellow light brown with each showing off thier grains differently and they do look amazing. I even upgraded them by adding wood rope trims. The hardware I didn't like, were originally bronze but I found when rubbing them with steel wool they became polished copper, what a surprise. The rose gold- polished copper actually softens all that grain and made the cabinets look amazing.
Just found your channel after receiving a sample of the same pontchatrain green paint, intended for an Edwardian desk. The color is beautiful but watching both of your videos I’ve decided to simply do the dark wash on it, and find something else to use the paint on. Both of your projects have the perfect outcomes in my opinion.
Hope you can buy and store a lot of this kind of thing before the trend hits and the prices for the wood pieces climbs. I know so many of my older clients feel like they can't give away their mahogany and cherry fine furniture.
Great profit margin. Good to hear your feedback on the return of wood/dark wood finishes. As an interior designer, I am exposed to a lot of what the industry says is on trend, but it's craftspeople such as yourself that really have the ear to the ground, picking up on changes in people's preferences.
Love the result! For the handles, I spray paint then matte black and then use some Rub n Buff to highlight lightly the edges of the handles (European Gold is my fav). Really tones down the handles and feel more contemporary/transitional
This piece is stunning. I was amazed at how much that paint wash changed the tone, it’s perfect looking now! 😍 I think everyone is looking for wood tones, trying to warm up all that grey that was in decor trend almost everywhere a few yrs back. Lol
@flippedbyabby I have a buffet similar but I think mine might be older. It’s all original, regular wood tone & well loved. It was my Grandmas & she was born in 1892 & passed in 1976. I’ve had it since 1981
Thank you for sharing this one! I have saved it in the hopes of having the curio age to try this on one of my pieces. I an a sucker for dark wood pieces.
Hi Abby. I stumbled on a video of yours this morning. You have a new fan. I graduated from high school in 1969 and it was very groovy. I decided then what my style was and stuck with that style all these years. Now in 2024 I look back and I like to say "I was in style three times in my life." Hahaahaa and I'm good with that! Thank you!
This is beautiful! I just came upon your channel and am following. Just watching this today will help me on 3 pieces I'm working on for my home. Thank you! And yeah for dark wood!!!
My parents had this piece and I loved it. I thought the shined up hardware was beautiful until you darkened it up which was just what it needed. Great job!
I have almost the identical buffet! But the color....wow. I need to do this. Mi e has wooden knobs and I love your brass handles so much better. Good call on the rub and buff.
Good call to tone down the hardware, you could clean it up then expose it to ammonia fumes to age it or add patina within a half hour. Also to tone down the red, you need to go to the opposite side of the color wheel. So opposite red is green. Now slightly tint your topcoat with green, (very, very slightly). This will cancel out some of the red. If unsure about how much green, you can do a test and see what happens when it dries, you should see NO hint of green. Or you could always add a second tinted topcoat over this. Good work. I happen to like this style, but you put too much stuff on it for staging (this overpowers the furniture, which you are trying to make the focus).
I was hoping you would use oval Hepplewhite drawer pulls (in antique brass). Darkening the original pulls made it look much better than the bright finish, though!
Im so happy that your video is out!!! I was waiting patiently for it!! You’re the courageous one let me tell you 😂😂. You make the videos very interesting, it feels like we’re friends ❤. Can’t wait to see next one 😅. See you soon From province of Quebec Canada 🇨🇦
This is beautiful. I have the same exact buffet server that was given to me by my grandfather. The poor thing is pretty banged up now as I had a golden retriever that loved to jump up on the thing and it is scratched all along the top. What grit sandpaper should I use to get the scratches out? I will have to refinish the piece, but I don't want to ruin it lol. Any help will be appreciated.
I was watching Lemons to Lemonade the other day and she shows you how to virtually stage your furniture at zero cost. Her items always look so high end in the staging too. You should check her out.
The dark wash and darker hardware really gave this sideboard elegance and quiet beauty. Good call.
Thank you so much!! I’ve been loving the dark moody furniture 🥰
Trends or no trends, that buffet is deserving to have a stained wood finish with no painting. Your strategy and the outcome are great!
Thank you so much!! Yes, I’ve been having a hard time painting things lately 😂 because I love wood… but sometimes it’s the only option
Yes! It all plus change in hardware shine works so well. Thank you.
THE BLACK WASH IS SO PRETTY! IT REALLY DOES CHANGE IT, WOW
Thank you so much!! It’s subtle but exactly what it needed!
Great idea to darken the hardware. The paint wash worked well. Bravo!
Thank you very much!
I am a flipper out of Richmond. It literally breaks my heart when I have to paint over mahogany. Thank for showing me this trick! I am so excited woodgrain is coming back in.
Yesss me too!! But it never sells “as is” because so many people have so much gray and neutral in their homes nowadays
Your dark toning of wood and hardware, and salving the interior surfaces make it exceptionally beautiful. You're very talented. Great to see that wood finishes are back.
You gave a tired piece vitality. It’s a classic with straight lines and elegance. 👍
Oh man.. I would never have thought of darkening the hardware but it really brought the whole thing together, you really have an eye for this stuff!!
Thank you so much!!
Your work is exceptional. I really appreciate that you make appropriate decisions regarding how to restore a wonderful piece of furniture. I’m glad that you do not automatically paint all wood surfaces! Thank you so much. I always enjoy your videos.
Buffet looks great with the dark wash and the toned down pulls. Congrats on your sale!
Thank you so much!!

That sounds beautiful!! I’m really loving wood grain now!
That little clean up made all the difference in the world. You were so right about the hardware - so subtle but but so perfect. And you sold it - Yay!
Yes! Thank you!
I wish i were the one that bought that from you. Looks stunning and would be perfect in my house
Thank you so much!

Oh this is so great to hear!! The Ponchartrain definitely won’t go to waste, it’s such a beautiful color 😍
This buffet looks amazing, and it looks great with brass!
BEAUTIFUL!!! You were so right about the hardware. It was perfect after you Rub-n-Buffed it!
I love this black wash technique!! It turned out so beautifully!!! Nice work, girl!
Hope you can buy and store a lot of this kind of thing before the trend hits and the prices for the wood pieces climbs. I know so many of my older clients feel like they can't give away their mahogany and cherry fine furniture.
I love it. And darkening the handles was a great choice. I need a staging wall! LOL I love how you did yours.
Thanks so much! 😊
so pretty Abby! I wanna do this look! 😍
Thank you!! You should 😍 it’s so easy

My mom had a buffet like this - beautiful job
Thank you!!

I love that hardware. I saw it in high end furniture stores and loved it right away.
Looks great 👍 Love the staging ❤
Thanks so much 😊
This piece is gorgeous. I love the hardware this color as well
Thank you so much!
This piece is stunning. I was amazed at how much that paint wash changed the tone, it’s perfect looking now! 😍
I think everyone is looking for wood tones, trying to warm up all that grey that was in decor trend almost everywhere a few yrs back. Lol
Thank you so much! Exactly!!! The warmth is cozy but red is a little much
That is a stunning piece. Big difference when you darkened the hardware.
Thank you so much!! I do prefer it darker too!
Beautifully done. 👍❤
You now posting consistently is so great for society 😭🙌🏼 also anyone who says you didn’t SAVE this piece is CRAZY!
Woo!!!! 🙌 we are UA-camrs now!
This color wash looks really good!
Thank you!
Excellent job! Looks much better darker finish and toned down hardware.
Totally agree! Thank you!
Dang!!! She’s pretty Abby ❤
Thank you so much Katie!!! 😍

Mine doesn’t have a curved top. People always want to buy it from me. It holds my TV now but one day I will take that off & show all its old glory.
Thank you for sharing this one! I have saved it in the hopes of having the curio age to try this on one of my pieces. I an a sucker for dark wood pieces.
The piece is beautiful,it has straight, classic lines and is elegant. You did a nice job on it, and the staging is lovely.
Thank you so much!

It’s funny how style changes with time but if it’s something you truly love then it’s timeless 🫶
Well done Abbey!
Thank you!
Wood stained is really lovely
This is beautiful! I just came upon your channel and am following. Just watching this today will help me on 3 pieces I'm working on for my home. Thank you! And yeah for dark wood!!!
Wow, great transformation without completely redoing it over.
Yes! Thank you!
My parents had this piece and I loved it. I thought the shined up hardware was beautiful until you darkened it up which was just what it needed. Great job!
Thank you!! I totally agree! I don’t mind the shined hardware but it just wasn’t really my aesthetic. I wish I could’ve taken the backplate off!
You were SPOT ON about the handles. Love this! New subscriber :)
Yay! Thank you!
I love love Love a paint wash! They are so easy and always come out unique and different each time ❤
I totally agree! Thank you!!
I have this same style of buffet from my grandmother. We use is for a TV stand.
I loveeee tall buffets! So beautiful
I have almost the identical buffet! But the color....wow. I need to do this. Mi e has wooden knobs and I love your brass handles so much better. Good call on the rub and buff.
Go for it! Thank you so much!!
Love how it turned out! I need to try a dark wash. 😍
You should! It’s addictive!!

Thank you!!
I love the legs on that buffet! Beautiful result with the finish.
Thank you! 😊
I would buy that in a heartbeat …❤️
Thank you 😊
Beautiful!
Thank you!
9:47 it’d look better with a slightly larger (taller) lamp. 😊
Agreed! Or even 2 lamps! I don’t know where to find good ones that aren’t a fortune 😅
I love this. Would this exact process work if you wanted to make an orangey dining room set look like this rich elegant dark wood?
Yes yes yes!!! You can also use a dark brown gel stain. I took orange nightstands and made them this color in one of my short form videos
Looked great, and I think you really know your work very well.😊
Thank you very much!
You're my spirit animal. Love DD iced lattes when I'm working! The buffet turned out beautifully.
Thank you!! Maybe if we all tag them they will notice me 🤣
I love the hardware, the easy update made it so beautiful.
Just started following you and already inspired me to paint and old dresser. Thank you and this looks beautiful!
Yay!!! Thank you!
Came out very nice!
Thank you!
This is GORGEOUS! I have a dresser that’s similar tone as the buffet and I LOVE what you’ve done to this! Taking notes!
Yay! Thank you for your support!

Thank you for your feedback! I’m worried the green would show 🤔 but now I’m curious to try it!
You nailed it🎉🎉🎉beautiful
I love your honesty behind your creativity! You go girl!

Wow, I love that little touch up pen.
It’s so handy!!! and you can’t even tell with the wash on top of it
@@flippedbyabby it looks fabulous.
I was hoping you would use oval Hepplewhite drawer pulls (in antique brass). Darkening the original pulls made it look much better than the bright finish, though!
It’s so pretty, Abby! I have a couple dressers with this mahogany finish and will have to try it on one. Thanks!
Please do! It’s addicting!! Lol I’m going to try the “dark horse” color next time
I would love to have that in my home
That’s so kind ☺️
Gorgeous, Love it!😍
Thank you! 😊
Im so happy that your video is out!!! I was waiting patiently for it!! You’re the courageous one let me tell you 😂😂. You make the videos very interesting, it feels like we’re friends ❤. Can’t wait to see next one 😅. See you soon

Oh I will definitely go check it out!! I have very few staging items
@@flippedbyabbyyes you can use AI staging very cheaply plus it saves having to collect and store items just for staging.
That looks like a Duncan Fife style, so pretty. So weird to see the side buffet on YT that matches my china cabinet....lol
Thank you!! Love these buffets
I love it! Where do you announce your pieces? I am interested. Thank you so much
For sale?? Usually on Facebook marketplace! And instagram
You should spray with dull finish . . So much easier then that spray can . Get a harbor freight hlvp sprayer.
Tenho que ver seus vídeos todos os dias, tenho muito para aprender, vou fazer o mesmo.
Looks great
Thanks!
So beautiful and thank you for not painting it white!!
My pleasure 😊
Abby, have you used that technique using your sprayer? Beautiful work!
