Would really love to have box shape because most of these cameras are going to be rigged out anyway to be used on projects.
Current shape is kind of uncomfortable to hold especially if you have put lot of weight on it with cage/vmount/monitor ect. And the body is already so wide that if i add any side handles for better grip, it becomes ridicilously wide.
That's a dream camera! Also hope for a box shape micro cinema camera 4k. Love the pocket 4k but would love to have it more rig-friendly. I don't mind having the mft with the metabones but of course a at least super 35 and rf-mount would be killer! I hope they can bring out a new global shutter sensor with good dr and color too. To rival the komodo :p
The komodo I think takes to long to start, a bm is way quicker! :)

I'm a proud Blackmagic Pocket 6K owner and I must say I sometimes have this love-hate relationship with it. The poor battery, no IBIS, unusable AF, and EF mount (huge flange distance), ridiculous crop factor when shooting higher frame rates, etc are some of the biggest down sides of this camera. I honestly don't like nitpicking but the value this camera brings for the price is amazing. However,
I really wish the next Blackmagic camera has
1. A Box body like ZCAM/Panasonic BGH1 because that's quite easy to balance on a gimbal than the current design.
2. A Full Frame sensor! Global shutter please!
3. IBIS and Auto Focus like the Komodo
4. RF MOUNT!!!!
5. A better battery option than the current one!
Priced at 3000-4000$ would be MAD!
All the reasons you mentioned in the 6k are the reasons why I held back... but I LOVE its color science. Great suggestions you have there. Box shape is def a great idea
Battery life is okay. Try original pocket. It's like 2 minutes. 6K can easily get you 30 full minutes. The only really stupid thing is that huge ass ugly EF mount when it could be RF. And the wide ass body is a big issue when using gimbals.
Might as well get the komodo at this point
All those are great points, but I would seriously just be happy with a pocket 4K or 6K in a boxy body with built-in ND filters and IBIS. I would take either an EF mount or even micro 4/3 mount- neither of those mounts is a deal breaker for me. I think form factor and ND filters would trump everything else.

The only thing that excites me is the gh6. They fix the AF problem and it is perfect for almost every kind of work. At least for me I would have one camera that works for shooting weddings and that works for UA-cam content. For extra points if they added an electronic ND filter in there, it would be over the top amazing. C'mon Panasonic I'm rooting for ya.
You hit the nail on the head with your wish list for the black magic camera. I loved my P4K but had to part with it because it lacked all the things you mentioned. Let’s hope they listen.

not sure how i'd feel about a $3000 GH6 although I'm already heavily invested in M43 lenses. However a game changing, flawless AF system for the GH6 will definitely give everyone sitting on the fence between an S5 and a potential GH6 to go for the GH6. Awesome video as always!

As a user of the GH5 would like to add two more features to the GH6, first is camera position tracking for the post-production stabilization, and the second is a built-in variable electronic ND filter, and I hope that this ND becomes a standard for all cameras that are video oriented since it is a great technology and I would appreciate it very much!

Waiting for the BMPCC 6K mk2 is the right thing to do. I wanted to get the 6k last year but I'm always scared of the first gens.
That being said, my 5D mk2 it's getting pretty old, I can't wait much longer!

Love the fact you mentioned the Panasonic GH6. It could be the last M43 camera from Panasonic, but I think it will go out with a bang. GH5 & GH5s have been amazing to use for my filmmaking at a budget.
I don't think it'll be the last M43 honestly, not becuse they focused on FF they'll end up dropping M43. But yeah, it took them a long time to update it because of the FF launches as you know

Great videos! Would like a tutorial on how to make those animations from your videos.
He uses Keynote, and the camera “movements” using the free FCPX plugin -> mCam Rig from MotionVFX
Looks like the Pocket 6k Pro is still Super35, still has an EF mount, but now has internal IRNDs, uses NP-F batteries, has a 1500Nit HDR tilting screen, Gen 5 color science and only costs $2500. By far the lowest price cinema camera with these features. There is also an optional new battery grip and EVF. I think the reason it doesn't have a RF mount is likely two fold. First is licensing cost, and second it now incorporates IRNDs so is using that additional space granted by the mount for something.

Btw, you can use gen 5 color science in the blackmagic pocket 6k. Just select it in the raw tab of davinci. All BMRAW cameras can use it, becaus... you can use any color and log in raw

Honestly the 12800 base second ISO usually is quite a bit of a disadvantage, since everything above ISO 3200 is quite unusable till you reach ISO 12800, which means you'll need either fast lenses or super strong ND filters.
above 3200 being unusable depends on the camera after all. But nowadays, sensors are getting much cleaner than before
Blackmagic needs to fix their form-factor! No matter what's inside, the shoe shape is a deal-breaker for me. My dream camera would be a blackmagic in a RED form-factor (box, side handle, top screen, battery in the back). Great video btw!

As a long time user of Panasonic, which has excellent color science (IMHO), I too hope that the GH6 will come with phase detection AF. It really is needed. And as you said, I think it's the only way Panasonic can keep their market share - and possibly increase it. As a filmmaker, I am very interested in the Canon C70. I shot with the Canon RP and really like the RF lenses.
Speaking of RF, as an owner of the BMPCC4K, I too would like to see a BM camera with an RF mount. I believe keeping up with technological advances is important for manufacturers to stay relevant in such a competitive market as mirrorless cameras. I also want to see the features you mentioned in future BM cameras.

I don't care about whether in the end of the 2021 another UA-camr is proven to have had the more accurate predictions - watching this video taught me a lot about the strenghts and weaknesses of the current models on the market, and that is much more important than having the better forecasts.

I have a Panasonic GH5 and I am interested in the GH6 but I may not upgrade when it eventually comes out if it has 8K as I don't need it, nor do I think its the best for a smaller sensor for what you said, more noise and that could mean less useable dynamic range but also diffraction would happen at wider apertures with smaller pixels, which isn't what I want for landscapes and macro where I need a big depth of field.
All I would like for a GH6 for video is an update to the GH5s with IBIS, full V-log with more dynamic range, non reflective brighter screen and ProRes RAW output since all of Panasonics FF cameras have RAW output as do other FF cameras released in the past year or so and the GH cameras are their top of the line MFT cameras for video and they could really benefit from it. They probably won't change their focusing drastically but I do see it having some small improvements. If they can also add it, an electronic variable ND (I think the flange distance of MFT or the small size makes it difficult to add physical NDs into the body unless it has a fixed lens. In the photography side, I just want a high res mode from the G9 and 14-bit RAW for photos.
On Canon, I think you're more likely to get two cameras between the C70 and C300iii: a C90 with an RF mount; and a C200ii with an EF mount. They will be fairly similar in terms of output, but the C90 will be in the form of the C70, and the C200ii will be in the form of the C300iii. It is also likely that the C200ii will be about $1,000.00 more than the C90, and will have a viewfinder -- as standard.

Excellent! Though I think your hopes/expectations for the BMPCCFF might be a little higher than is realistic, adding MANY features BMD has never incorporated before.. i.e. Full frame, AF, IBIS, etc. That being said, they never cease to surprise. We’ll see!

I love the canon battery on the BM6K. I just use an external battery - no problemo.
What Blackmagic need to make is a full-frame Komodo type camera. RF mount, slots for Sony NPF batteries on the back, small fixed screen on the top. That way we can rig it to whatever we need.

But I think it would have a same off the shelf Sony sensor as it is in S5, S1H, Z2 F6, and others. Functions, body, stayed the same and framerates would be identical to S5 due to the sensor specs.

BMPCC is what I'm excited about. I feel if they had AF and a decent battery it would be game over for the competition. I'm super excited about GH6 as well but I don't see them adding Raw. I personally love the BRAW format.

Great video, however the only one I disagree with is a new bmpcc6k, I think the BMMCC is due for an update, and hopefully it'll be 6K or 8K in a box form factor, but of course we all have different expectations and wants, but I did enjoy your video, very well put together.

Complaints about the "pocket" a) the form factor b) we need to be able to turn the rear screen off c) a mirrorless mount would give us way more lens options. In the future I'd like to see a version in a cube shape like Z Cam and RED Komodo, with lots of mounting points. Also, turn the big screen into a detachable field monitor with signal and power supplied by the body and ship it with the camera.

For me, a photo or video is about the emotions and the story it tells me. Not about the dynamic range, sharpness, pixels or the bokeh. These days, its all about the specs. Sadly, consumers are falling for it and companies continue to make millions. Like someone said : "Don't wait for the perfect moment. Take the moment and make it perfect".

Predicting a Sony RX100 M8 with an 18mm-55mm F1.8 zoom with all the features of the ZV1, but retaining the Magnesium Alloy build.
Bmpcc6k in a Komodo or Zcam type Body with IBIS would be epic 😱
Next iteration of BMPCC 6K or 4K with a) Global shutter / b) RF mount / c) Dual-gain sensor architecture. Make it happen!
Just a phase detect enabled GH6 with the GH5S sensor would see me sell my Canon C70. The GH6 is almost guranteed to be a HUGE success if it has phase detect AF, yet it could also be so badly ignored that it kills their camera division if it doesn't.

In some ways I think you yes... of course not the FF aspect, but probably 80% it'll be better
I think that blackmagic should update the micro cinema camera, with bmpcc capabilities and z-cam form factor. Everybody already rigs up the pocket, so a cube form factor with sony NP battery mount on the back would be more convenient.
What do you think about Sony A1 note that it’s been announced? I know it’s like a hybrid and probably more tailored to photo but what’s your thoughts on the 8K 30FPS and the 4K 120 FPS?
well.. As you said, it's a photo camera. 8K is overkill, trust me, you won' need it. I had the RED helium 8K and over 2 years I haven't shot in 8K once. So i switched to RED Gemini 5K. 4K 120 is already in the A7S3. I mean the image would be oversampled from 8K or 5.6K in all cases, which could potentially look better than the A7S3. Picture quality is what we'll need to see side by side. So yeah.... not for serious filmmakers I would say, just like the R5
