The 22nd anniversary of the Parliament attack entered the history books for a major security breach that saw two people in the visitors’ gallery jump into the chamber and unleash yellow-coloured smoke from canisters. In Ep 1368 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta brings in ThePrint’s Moushumi Das Gupta, who covers Parliament and the government, and Ananya Bhardwaj, who keeps a keen eye on crime, to discuss what exactly happened.

@5amyak: The blame for this lack of information lies with Godi Media. It is safe to assume that they posed tough questions to the government. However, when elected parliamentarians ask similar questions, they are suspended and imprisoned.
Why the debate on "WHY" should not take place, no matter what the reason we cannot let this normalize in our democracy.
Whatever the reason maybe, this is not the way.

Congress's work can be clearly seen by comparing India's growth history with South Korea.
Both gained independence in 1947 and 1948, respectively. Look at where South Korea is today in terms of its GDP, per capita income..which like Dhruv Rathee mentioned in hus recent video was lower than Somalia etc.
Conclusion- Shouldn't the party which ruled for 60 years in this 70-year-old country be blamed for all its shortcomings and why did we fall behind??
But shameless Congress now has the audacity to question BJP, who has been in power for just 9 years!

India's per capita income grew 2.5 times during the economist era while the 4 this pass could manage only 1.67 times.
Conclusion: in the last 20 years, the Congress has been better than the BJP.
If you want to go in History, then during the Aurangzeb era we were the 2nd largest economy in the world, while today, we are 5th.

Dont understand why anyone in their right mind would illegally barge into Parliament house and create chaos.
They should have atleast thought through the consequences their actions would invite.
People involved in this incident will not see the outside of jail for years and years to come and rightly so.

If the Media people are not subjected to strict security before entering the Parliament, then it is a likely possibility of the next major Breach could be from this quarter.

For me the task before the investigating agencies is to find out who is the person Mr Jha was in touch with while the incident was going on and the reasons for destroying all the mobiles. That will only unravel if some larger conspiracy was hatched with the involvement of some anti- India forces.

Sad to know even seasoned reporters are now unapprachable to the common man! Both their wavelengths are different. Instead of highlighting problems of unemployed young Indians, reporters are siding with ruling class (which includes all parties). Once the legislators win, they take care of only their interests. Youth are doing petty jobs & subsisting on their parents' income!

1. Obtaining visitor pass is one thing but less important. Critical issue is how the individual frisking was done by the Security Staff when the visitors are allowed in. These 2 visitors should have been nabbed at security. This is certainly a big failure but whether the SOP states that shoes should or should not be checked is one issue to be investigated. 2. Let us not focus on how opposition reacted to this incident; elected trouble makers like TMC Derek or other 15 MPs are not expected to behave differently. So this is not the issue at all. 3. We should wait for the enquiry report by the Delhi Police and hope in future such breach does not happen. 4. We should have body scanners even for MPs as most of our MPs have criminal background and could easily carry dangerous weapons inside. PM and the important BJP leaders should be protected. 5. PM and other top leaders should stop road shows during election propaganda tours. PM is a very easy target on open roads. We cannot afford any more security incident till May 2024. 6. The Print Team made an emotional appeal to the Security Agencies for mild, soft treatment of these criminals. These are kids and first timers, it seems!!!! So we know how the media will behave as we go ahead!!

Even if they took off their shoes and put them through the scanner, the capsules may not have shown up since they were made of plastic. Maybe some sharp-eyed security guard would have noticed the false heels, but I doubt it. I feel sorry for these people- years in jail, for a silly prank.
The print has some of the best research driven journalists I've seen. SG might have been more left leaning early in his career but his journalists are mostly unbiased and factual.
Govt needs to tighten security procedures, but not overreact in the punishment of these people, who seem more foolish than malicious.

This is a extremely serious issue. The security apparatus must be enhanced. Moreover, who are source. Outsourcing terrorism is possible, though most of the time the actual perpetrators do not known the real source. A thorough investigation is to be carried out by NIA
How can they issue a pass to anyone from an MP's area without actually knowing him/her or what your reporter is saying is wrong. If what she says is correct it is a serious matter.
Journalists themselves have to be blamed for the restrictions imposed on them. They don't do journalism neutrally & favor parties they work for & set their narratives get package for it.

Nowadays we can't believe anyone including media persons. Strengthening Security and regular review may be more important.
It's good in Shekhar ji's part to give credit to his staff and give them exposure. But in this segment, there wasa lot of repitition.

1.Evidence till now does not point towards a terrorist attack/causing any serious damage but just intention to attract attention.
2. But UAPA is appropriate (at least this time) because it is to be ascertained whether it was such a simple conspiracy or there is something more sinister and also any other persons involved.
3. At least this act should help in finding all possible loopholes in security and these should be addressed in a foolproof manner.

For Indian media security is the biggest concern. If this had happened long time ago nobody would have talked about security, instead protest would have become the prime issue. Pity on Indian media. It took almost a week to understand who were the people behind and why did it happen. The media is reluctant to discuss the protest and the reason behind it --- unemployment, Manipur, hijack of the constitution etc. We have heard about Kangaroo courts. But this is Kangaroo media. What was the size and weight of the canisters and how did they fit inside their shoes. They could not have walked normally. Did not their gait raise suspicion in the minds of security frisking them which means it is much more than meets the eye.
