Beau, your film’s stand the test of time. I’m watching this in 2021, and the archival feel to your journey, has already oxidized itself through your blood, sweat, and tears. I’ve never had the opportunity to make such a journey myself, but I’m living vicariously through the riptides of your life. It feels a little bit like a microcosm to your adulthood. I hope you go back one day, and rewatch these films, seeing yourself time traveling through the decades, and inevitably finding yourself back in those moments. Relive them if you can. Many people will likely never attempt even one of the adventure you’ve embarked on. You’ve amounted to more than I can count on both hands and feet. Man, you’re a hero. It was quite sad re Andrew McCauley. I hope his wife and son are doing well. I was following his adventure, and was moved to donate to his wife and son after he didn't make it. I love the conciecoucness of this person. We are nothing but a blip in time. We keep going. No matter what. Just keep going. Don't give up. Each generation progresses. Keep going...... keep going...... keep going.
I think this guy is incredible. I went travelling in 1989, before it was so popular to take a gap year and travel to far out of the way places. It didn't matter how far from civilisation you got, in a high mountain pass in Tibet or the jungles of Madagascar there would always be an Aussie with this sort of enthusiasm pop up. Places where I'd not see another Westerner for days. It's long been an important cultural thing for Australians to go on adventures but this guy is something beyond most other humans. He makes me want to go on more adventures When you are young you have to seize those opportunities and not just dream about it. I remember thinking if I work a normal job and take two weeks vacation somewhere I want to see a year it will be 26 years to spend one year of abroad seeing the world. This guy knows how to live and seize the day.
I have so many dreamt ideas, but I can honestly admit, unknown uncertainty, causes me to be very fearful. Having a panic disorder is the cause. The woods, animals, even the dark, isn't as scary as people. To all the kind people thank you!
I didn't realize, 1989 I had a brain injury. I've recovered, but I'm changed. Mom and dad said I was fearless as a little guy, after the accident i was an emotional wreck
We traveled extensively in Mozambique, including getting married in SA and touring Swaziland over a decade ago. Africans are colorful and curious but they often get pretty excited especially about weddings. I toured with similar hat and veil! Watching you go past Ibo island. We stayed at a back packers inn there. It was epic.
I cannot believe UA-cam demonetizes this type of shit man. Its so inspiring and you can learn so much, yet this guys gets nothing but his own accomplishments for this.

You guys are actually the real heroes of life. People look to celebrities for heroism where there is none. Crazy you are actually like the adventurers of old, brilliant.
I love this. We still have two sons, luckily. No 1 son fractured skull, top & bottom palate after kayaking down Ardeche gorge and slipping down a crevasse when jumping off the Pont d'Arc. He recovered and trekked round South America to meet: No.2 son, who was trapped under a stop rock on same river, but rescued by someone reaching down and finding his BA. No. 2 son spent a year in the Guyanese rain forest with an indigenous tribe and nearly lost it canoeing down to the Kaiteur Falls, and working in a gold mine. Both now in their late 20s, and still taking risks. I won't explain what example their 2 parents set, but ice climbing, paragliding, motorcycling are involved!
Just subscribed today! And just found your UA-cam channel last night. Me and my husband went binge watching to catch up with time! You are a superb story teller and a mad adventurer, nature advocate, incredible father and hubby, all of them! Mad respect ✊
OMG 6 years have passed and I’m finding this now. My son is now in South Africa about to hand out bikes he’s assembled to kids in SA. This is what it’s all about. People always ask what the meaning of life is, but they forget that it’s a choose your own adventure. Beau has just blown my mind. Watching these videos isn’t to dissimilar to an ice bath. What a wake up.
exactly. this is why Nietzsche to now to even centuries later when there will be man-made stem-cell organs making humans as close to God as can be, the puzzle of meaning will still be there. until we realize it doesn't have to be the same for everyone and that it is okay for you to give your life the meaning you want to give it, from where you are in life and have it change as you evolve and it doesn't make any of it less true/authentic. today's truth might be obsolete tomorrow but it doesn't make it false today. your truth might not be anyone else's, but it doesn't mean it is not true for you.
First vid I’ve watched of you and I honestly was hooked start to finish! I loved it! Great vid, made me homesick as well being South African. Sometimes I forget how great Africa is! People are always willing to help you there when you least expect it!!
100% I was about to post the exact same thing. Like some of the documentary or videos on UA-cam,...... where I've seen homeless people be given something, then they immediately share it, often with a complete stranger.
the simplicity and kindness was heartwarming to watch..on a contrast the pissed of white man over a hat shortly after a friend died...yeah the difference is amazing
@@geejee1255 I don't believe it was really the hat that pissed him off but the piling of things that happened before, the hunger, the struggle of the waves and then his friend dying. In shock we like to grip to something real so our feelings can feel justified.

Amazing work mate, I grew up (until 13 years old) in South Africa and spent 6 amazing years of life down there near Durban, I was hoping that you may stop near Pennington. For sure you slid past it. After thinking I’d watched all your videos and scanning through the list, I quickly realised that I never actually finished this one so set about doing exactly that. NOW I’ve watched them all. I do hope you’re making more mate as you’re a hoot to watch and to be honest, a massive legend in my eyes. Keep up the great work and I look forward to watching the next one.
Biggest challenge of trip. Being a redhead in equatorial sun.
safrica is no where close to the equatorial sun
UV is weaker there than in Australia (his home country).
.. and loosing your hat on top of that xD
How is he a redhead?
You dont call men redheads, they are known as Ranga's
He makes me want to go on more adventures
When you are young you have to seize those opportunities and not just dream about it.
How can you tell that YT has demonetised the channel? Just curious. Thanks
@@jimdevalk me too ever dig up any dirt on it?
@@jimdevalk no ads on the vid
Is it possible he just didn't care about revenue?
I think that's all (the experience) he ever asked for
I've watched this 3 times now. Beau, your storytelling is so captivating. You're a bloody treasure mate, hope you're doing alright through this bloody pandemic.
Really took me on a journey, honestly hands down I think my favourite internet film I’ve ever seen, wish this had been in my recommendations a lot sooner
Congratulations and thanks for this. It was truly great to see an individual with a pure sense of adventure in action. Inspiring !!!
OMG 6 years have passed and I’m finding this now. My son is now in South Africa about to hand out bikes he’s assembled to kids in SA. Your blogging is incredible, for a mum back at home I love that the ocean looks just like Australia. My son and his partner are keen surfers, so it’s good for us to see what it might be like for him. I hope my son & his beautiful partner stay safe.
Thanks for watching Gibbo
Absolute inspiration mate , watched from start to finish , I just sold my catamaran and bought a hobie kayak and did my first trip , 30 kms offshore , great to see another bloke making the most of life 👊
I feel like I come back to this video every few months, truly inspiring adventure. No punches pulled on the highs and lows, gotta love it
great job on the reporting Beau, so insightful and informative. A hard journey and a story well told. You are an all round champ!
Cheers, eddy. I enjoyed a lot of Africa, and thought I was daft for the rest of it. Go well, fella.
Beau tiful! Watching this looked like my idea of torcher, everyone gets a buzz off different things. Good on him
I'm from South Africa and this is absolutely amazing. You deserve so much more recognition!!
Love the vibes of the old lady! She talked about how bad her situation was but still offered you tea!
Always amazes me how the people who have the least are the most generous. Gota love Africa x
They want you to have the fun which they missed.
@@geejee1255 No need to bring race into things though bud, let's just be positive about things 💛
Beau u give my spirit a lift. Coming from the states I live your work, thanks for your heart you give to the world!
"This bloody paddling business, it is just hard work" Hahaha! I also make large trips by sea kayak, sometimes I feel just the same haha. Africa, very cool and well shot and edited film!
Thanks, Kayasper. Might head back one day and finish what I started. I warming back up to the idea.
Thanks for your reply, Beau! Yeah, you should do that, I think! Currently I am considering a sea kayak trip of 5000 km, so love to see your videos.
Beau Miles you two could paddle together
UA-cam has blessed my recommended with your videos in 2021, and as a South African living in the UK I can say well done for not getting arrested, shot, or eaten by a great white on this trip!
This content is absolutely spectacular. You are gripping to watch.
Watched this for the first time and realized you started your journey at my family's lodge; Morrungulo! Hello from the Nelson's:)
Great film Beau Miles, great approach to paddling, its all about the journey, not about the destination.
Cheers
Brock Newbery
Thanks Brock, much obliged.
Good job.......
I've been on vacation for a small week to sweden and took on a canoe a trip through lakes and rivers. I enjoyed every second of it and still think back to those days. Thinking about getting my own canoe right now and just go out there.
Enjoyed watching every bit of this Beau. I particularly loved seeing your honesty surrounding your struggles, highs and lows!
I was in Durban for this swell. I remember it so well. The front fence of my place was washed out to sea along with 20m of my garden.
Can’t believe the algorithm took this long to recommend this. Some of the best content on YT.
The lengths of what this man does is incredible and this channel is so underrated we need to get him to 500k by the end of 2020 and 1 mil and the end of 2021 this comment was on 28 February this is my experiment
I remember you telling me about this trip while you were a guide at Monash. Great to put some vision to the story. Also never forget the power of the speedos.
He seems like he has been everywhere and met tons of ppl
was expecting this to have millions of views.. but only 600k?? and that's after everyone recently watching cuz of the reccomend... jeez man how did this not blow up, it was amazing all the way through. what a journey!
Ta, Moku. Will get a few more eyeballs yet. An old burner...
@@BeauMiles oh yea i'm rooting for u man, sent it to a few mates already. such grit needs recognition honestly
This movie deserves so much more credit... I'm not talking about just the number of views, people should learn from this inspirational story. Big ups!
PS how did your kayak manage not to sink with your gigantic balls of steel in it?
Cheers Jankorl. Funny...and untrue, they are a regular set of testicles.
@@BeauMiles haha
The video is not so technically well mounted and many other youtubers set aside a better quality video. But if you ask me which one do i want to know, i would say Beau Miles
@@BeauMiles regular for whales?
@@gtsolidrossi46 To be fair, the video was shot and edited 15< years ago...
What an adventure, very inspirational. Its not the destination its the journey. Fantastic.
So wait a minute... You mean to tell me you Kayaked around the most Great White shark infested waters in the world for over a thousand miles and the only thing that happened was a 3 ft shark nibble on the paddle?!
Aussies
@@vfgjasminebaker Guppy
why worry about Great White sharks when knowing they actively hunting around dusk and dawn... just dont get into water around the time.
well.. he also lost his hand stitched hat mate
There are certainly bigger threats when kayaking around the tip of Africa than sharks.
There were so many times in this video when I would have packed it in. Beau, you have a drive that very few people can claim anymore. All your videos are simply amazing, keep it up
"I pulled out this old cardboard map-" It's a gameboard for the strategy game Risk. Thanks for the laugh, bruh.
Ocean scares the hell out of me. Brave guy. Amazing trip, well done. Next time I'm down under, I'll look you up. Love Australia.
Amazing work mate, I grew up (until 13 years old) in South Africa and spent 6 amazing years of life down there near Durban, I was hoping that you may stop near Pennington. For sure you slid past it. Amazing place to spend the formative years of life before reality sets in.
PS. Just finished watching and the Indian Ocean was not playing ball, I imagine you bypassed the coastline I spent those 6 years in.
Great show and I look forward to watching all your content!
wonderful mate. Brought tears to my eyes.. I couldn't be more sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing this wonderful adventure.
I'd like to correct a mistake, Africa is by the band Toto; not "Kayak" never even heard of them ;)
I love the relationship you made with the locals. They just jumped in and made you family friends.
Just watched all your films Beau! I was fully entertained with every one, loved them! You’re a real inspiration, just wondered if you’ve submitted your films to the Banff Mountain Film Festival? They all seem like winners! Anyways have a good one, loved the film.
I thought I had already watched a couple of epic Beau Miles videos... then this one shows up in my feed. Wow. Continue to be amazed and inspired.
Way to go man. The wear and tear on your hands at the end of the trip. Wow, that was very interesting
I discovered this guy the other day and I swear he has the most interesting videos to watch. I struck some UA-cam gold
I love this video. Today is the second time I've watched it. Kudos from a fellow Aussie paddler.
Just a fascinating human and fascinating story teller that should be recognised for the rest of our existence
What an aussie icon of the 2000's and beyond
I intensily enjoyed watching your journey, I’m sure this inspires many others to go out there and explore the place they feel like is calling for them.
Amazing storytelling. The beach break paddle outs remind me so much of my time spent surfing in Northern California, sometimes just getting out is the hardest part. Good stuff
When he said he ran out of toothpaste I felt it
Legend! As a South African paddler I can appreciate what it takes to do what you did. Well done and what an amazing experience!
And want to add, the Mozambican people are honestly some of the most accommodating, amazing people!
This was incredible. I'm always amazed by the Earth.
This was so epic. Thanks for the inspiration. So cool to see how nice everyone was to you
