Renovating a canoe while running a marathon

- THE CANOE MARATHON: It turns out the best idea- and film, I’ve had to date is when I ran one lap of my perfect mile long block every hour for 24 hours, and in between did a bunch of odd jobs and made things. It’s an idea that’s been copied all over the world. I thought, why don’t I copy myself? This time though I’ll do lots of jobs within one, by renovating a banged-up-old fleet canoe, and instead of running around the block, I’ll run two laps every hour, in gumboots, around my paddock! So that’s what I did. It turns out copying yourself ain’t such a bad idea.

"changing your underpants is like a whole new week". There are just so many quotes in this video. Absolutely love it.
The moth flying around and the comment killed me
@@heclockFREEDOM !!
beau, get one pair of Saxx underwear
Sounded like a joke my dad would make
But I don't wear underwear
Hey Beau. I'm a boat builder in the UK. I've built quite a few carbon/Kevlar/fibreglass canoes and renovated a few dozen of them too. I've always been quite up tight about the perfect canoe and how it should look and what it should be made of. In my head my dream boat that I'd love to own one day will be a brand new carbon Kevlar beauty with all the bells and whistles. However, having said that and after watching this video, I want an old scrapper to renovate and inject some new life into. Take it from a pro, you've done a bloody good job and that canoe should see your kids grow up and be their boat that they learnt to paddle in and they'll say to their mates "my dad bought this as a wreck and did it up and now it's mine and it's still going strong".
Good on ya mate.
P.s. I also used to work as a technician at the university of Cumbria in Ambleside which appears in one of your videos, I'm also a new(ish) father to our second daughter as of a week ago so it's nice to live vicariously through these videos. You make anything seem possible. Thanks mate
Big props to the cameraman for the shot at 10:18, that was glorious. And Beau is a genius as usual with these ideas.
Had to go back and check it out but you’ve a savage eye mate, glorious footage. Well done the camera crew/man
Abso-bloody-lutely.
I thought so too. The cow running with him makes it even better.
👏 Mitch
Glad I wasnt the only one who thought so!
Huge shoutout to the individual/s who cared for the Miles kiddos so that Beau could achieve this (again). That too, is it's own significant 24 hour achievement. Would love a video on how you, Beau, and Helen achieve the balance in your relationship to allow you both to engage with projects that fascinate & fulfil you.
That’s a great suggestion, I second that!
Or how’s about mind yo own business
He and Hellen talked about this a bit on an episode of his podcast 👍
Beau's recent video touched on these issues!
It was 24 hours not a month. I go on longer fishing trips. You act like it's torture for a mother to spend some one on one time with there kids. He has taken the girls on many trips himself..
I already check how long the running track is around my parents house and I can’t wait to replicate this video with similar tasks😉 Good on you Beau! Absolutely love your channel!
Just subbed to you
UA-cam is funny; I watch a lot of aerospace and related videos and never once got recommended your channel... Even though it's one of the bigger ones in that field....
I do wonder why?
Never thought, you'd watch Beau Miles 😮 love you videos! 😊
Captain Joe is a Beau fan!!!??? Oh man, Captain Joe shows us how small the world can be (in a 747), while Beau shows us just how big it can be! Cheers!
Every time I watch a beau miles video it instantly becomes the highlight of my day
Couldn’t agree more, they’re so special
Im a big fan o your videos mate. Thank you
Wow as American viewer who follows these two creative aussies thanks to both of you.
Love ya Andy, can't wait to get my hands on your cookbook.
Watching one of my favorite Aussies while replying to a comment from one of my other favorite Aussies!! Got your book in Pre-Purchase Andy!
This is up there with the beans video 🔥😂 thanks for the laughs!
Always love more Helen in your videos! She's a rockstar!
Beau is one of the best people on this platform.
Beau’s videos are the epitome of wholesomeness. Just brilliant.
I can't imagine running that much in gumboots, my blisters would be horrific. Great video as usual!
I always enjoy seeing what Beau is up to. Turning quirky ideas into reality & pushing the perspective on things.
Thank you Beau for choosing Man's perfect vehicle for rehabilitation. Every trip with one is an adventure, regardless of the purpose.
Crazy timing of this video! You have inspired me to be a better person and dad. Yesterday I built a bike ramp with my son in the garage out of scrap wood I had lying around. Working with my bare hands, teaching my son about creating something from nothing, and passing down the thrilling chase of adrenaline. I love your videos with all the profound quotes and metaphors. Also there is an English Bulldog in New Jersey named after you. Seriously man thank you.
Funny stuff! Helen should sell t shirts that ask”are you working up a sweat? That’s what i like to see”
I would have major irritation running in the boots!
Never feel like I wasted a moment watching these! I feel renewed, sort of like that yellow canoe. Brilliantly done Beau!
You’re back. World’s just that little bit better beau.
My beer moment is every day...good to reflect on the day and how it went.
After each new video: "That's my fave Beau video..." And then the next one tops it. This one is glorious!
You should make this a yearly thing :D
Collaborate across the world 🌍😄 what a fun joyful way to live life
Love the reinvention of a mile an hour. It could be a tv series. Imagine how much stuff would get done!
I think you'd be a fantastic Joe Rogan guest, I'd absolutely love to sit for a few hours listening to your stories.
Don't let the crazy yanks anywhere near this man :')
I missed your videos, they weirdly give me the feeling I have a lot to live for
Thanks for putting so much positivity into the world with your fantastic videos.
Australian morning bird sounds are gods gift❤
I started off with the 'Bad River' video a few months ago and came back to this channel. I have now watched Beau's entire catalogue of videos in one day. This man is beautifully insane and showing us how to best live life in all of its glorious beauty and I'm here for it. Much love from Canada.
Thanks beau your films keep me sane in this mad old world
7:00 Favorite part of the video. Always thinking about "The Beer Moment" & about tomorrow is a horrible place to be because life will all of a sudden be over. Great reminder to be present and find joy in the various chunks of life that come before the 'finish line' and 'beer moments'. Thanks Beau.
“Life will all of a sudden be over if your always thinking about the beer moment and about tomorrow.”
So bloody true!
contrary to what you said about kids coming out of canoes hating each other, almost every time I've run canoeing for younger kids they've either had lots of fun or gained confidence, especially if it's their first time paddling. For myself, whenever I get off the water after a good paddle with someone I feel like I know them better, sometimes because we can both get lost in the tranquility of a good day's boating and had some fun chats and deep and meaningfuls, or because I learn their weaknesses. it all comes down to how you treat others.
anyway, that's a beautiful canoe you've got there, and I'd love to know what you end up naming it (because every good boat needs a name!)
Really enjoying having Helen in the videos
its the way possums are such a regular thing in your life, goals tbh
I think you are, in fact, the best person ever made. I've now watched almost all of your videos in a few days and I've not been this inspired to work on myself for a long, long time. I've been running every day after neglecting my fitness for years and I'm convinced this time it'll stick. Thank you for that beau!
today i hung a coat rack on my wall, walked my dog 3km, kayaked the Yarra 6.5km, went to my parent's house and built a table, came home and walked the dog another 2.5km - but coming home and watching this - you are the manliest man that ever manned :D
Good job completing both! I find I often lose track of time getting consumed by a project fighting back at every corner with missing parts, weather, injuries and mistakes. All the good stuff.
Love your story telling! I have not copied the 24 hour marathon, but you did inspire me to marathon my age. On July 13th I turned 42.195 and I trail ran a marathon in the Blue Ridge Mountains (USA) back to my home. Thanks for putting out great videos and inspiring this goal (I’ve never ran more then 13 miles prior to this). I look forward to the canoe video!
By far my favorite channel on UA-cam
"But I also like following ideas that are easy to talk yourself out of." That should go on a t-shirt!
KIA ORA! I am new to farming after 12 years in the building industry. Thank you for the inspiration to start my own UA-cam channel!
Haha absolutely loved the video, especially Helen out the window "that's what I like to see" like last time, love it.
I just love your wife's attitude. She's a keeper, mate.
Love it so much! The run, the ramblings, the woodwork, the amazing scenery around the joint...fantastic.
As life gives me a few punches (nothing overly bad) it was great to watch you teach me how to be grateful. Thank Miles family because it's not just Beau 😊
Already chuckled in anticipation when I read the title 😄
You are insane and I love it. I injured myself recently training for a half marathon but this gives me hope for the future. Awesome videos
I love waking up and seeing another Beau Miles video I can watch.
A Beau Miles upload day is always a good day. what a rippah
I love how helplessly inspirational you are Beau!
“Imperfection is worth a lot more money these days.” What a quote.
The cows be all excited hahah its so beautifully inspiring to watch this!
Beau i love this! My flatmate and I ran a mile an hour marathon two weekends ago and it was an amazing day. You are an inspiration
Yes Beau! You just keeping doing rad stuff - Cool - I loved it!
Another Beau Miles saga! Definitely the highlight of any day. Thanks for all you do Beau! Let us know when your merch store has one-armed Beau shirts for sale.
Saving the other one for later
Yes! Came to the comments to say this! It can be added along with the Beau designed hat!
Love this! I love how curious the cows are!
I totally get it mate. One winter I rebuilt a timber Mirror sailboat in the shed. Took it apart and put it back together - there's a metaphor right there. Sawed and drilled and painted all those cold long nights away the year I had some stuff to work out.
Oh, and I always mow the lawn in gumboots. Must have racked up a few marathons over the years in those. Come to think of it, I'm on my third pair!
Love your work and your words Beau.
Nice. I like combining different things in a long day, maybe I should chop up the things and mix the doing up together.
Thanks for taking us along, Brother
I still think about your first mile an hour video. you are an inspiration!
So glad you revisited this, absolutely beautiful end result, and your positive attitude and disposition are a delight as always.
Always enjoy Helen and May cameos.
Honestly I really like that you "copied" yourself because it speaks to how people aren't machines- while you technically did the same thing again, you clearly had a much different approach and headspace
Imagine Adam Savage, running around the mission during a One Day Build haha sounds like a killer video
i just love the simplicity of your ideas and implementation PURE GENIUS!!! ... gorgeous sunrise!!!
First Video on a Monday being a Beau video is a good start!
As a conoe builder, this was really cool to watch. Definitely a few slightly cringey moments but worth it to see a canoe get renovated.
Thanks Beau. Appreciate the reality in the video's i.e. cutting fingers, not turning off the sander, and of course junk rash. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.
I'm being a broken record, but this is the best channel on UA-cam.
Reaally liked the cinematography on this video! Even though it's always top notch, it seems you guys stepped it up on this one! Perfect video to watch after a day of doing chores!
Dear Beau, I want to tell you that I love the content you bring to youtube. You have such a positive and uplifting attitude that I can't help but smile. And you've got a fantastic sense of humour. I've been so inspired watching your videos because you have so much knowledge to share with the world. I'm very glad I stumbled on your videos 1 year ago. I think you are the sole reason in my changing in perspective with life. So many things are serious in life, but I think it's very positive to be able to spend a day being active, mindful, and alive. Sometimes you need to have childish wonder. I especially like how you aren't just asking "What If..." but you take the extra steps to actually begin the adventure. You take the plunge headfirst into an adventure. That's why I'm drawn to your videos. I find it very satisfying to witness someone giving in to natural curiosity that we tend to ignore because of "maturity" or social norms, or whatever else. Anyways, I just want you to know that I think that what you are doing is putting good in the world, and I respect the heck outta you. Good on you!
I enjoy seeing your optimism and positivity. I could / should learn from your mindset.
Another gem from Beau. A huge thank you for the inspiration. Ric
Haven't watched the film yet but Beau. It's so bloody good to have you back!!!! Has been a while since the last film.
I love the little interaction between you and Helen at the window, its a cute call back to the original video! 7:42 "You working up a sweat yet...thats what I like to see" - Helen even has the same lines 😄
Once again Beau ‘The Runovator’ Miles wins the YT story telling this month .. fantastic … a couple of things .. I know the boat is going to star in its own story .. but perhaps a follow up …paddle 26 miles and do 26 fixer upper jobs for mates ….. oh and by the way … when you say the Possum woke you up .. like actually woke you up .. with a gentle knock on the door and a cuppa ? Love ya mate … much hugs from the library ;)
Best things on UA-cam contain Beau Miles .
Bloody brilliant!! Loved it!! My field perimeter is……1/2 mile!! We also need/want a new woodshed!!! Game on!!!
This is an idea worth re-visiting Beau! Glad you did it again. Can't wait to try this with a project one day
I loved that so much. Music from old videos and elsewhere- outstanding. Other good Beau sayings! Great encouragement from Helen! I would be honoured to meet you!
Good to see you back buddy, I would try copious amounts of Talc on the undercarriage, when it clogs , wash nuts in a bucket , dry and re-talc. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Love the throwback quotes to the original throughout
beau making all of us a better person 1 video at a time.
bloody good stuff mate, its a treat to watch each time. Cant wait for whats next
the dynamic between you and helen is so great!
Beau introducing a new concept of 'runovation'. Absolutely love it!
Goodonya beau! You are doing God’s work. Thank you 🙏
Bloody hell! Beau put a video up! What a good day!!!
I love this fellas content. Ain’t been on the internet for a good few months & I’ve just binged watched 6 episodes, what a treat 🙏🏻🥰🙏🏻🥰🙏🏻
good bones! brilliance in saying less, and doing more; what a delight.
Helen is a saint just for smelling the various smells...omg.
I was lucky enough to see this film when you visited Hamilton and showed it off a bit early. It was a treat to watch then and it is a treat to watch now!
Beau, I love your way off living. You show us, how to create an adventure from everything that surrounds us! Thank you for the great wisdoms!
Lovely to have you back Beau.
Helen must be constantly entertained having him around.
Been waiting for the next Beau video.... looking forward to next video :)
Whenever I'm stuck on a project I put on one of Beau's videos, it gives me a nice inspiration push to go on and finish it. Love you, mate. 🛶
Morning mate,
Watching this video whilst eating my breakfast- shakshuka with sumac in it. Absolutely delicious. Big meal, 2 eggs 2 big slices of bread and a large black tea. I have a 4 day hike in Garibaldi, BC Canada today. Your inspiration has followed me all the way here from Warragul where I grew up and unless I get some sort of spirit telling me to stay away from eccentric redheads during the camp, that inspiration will be with me till the finish. Thank you for your work. Have a good one.
Not sure if I watch these videos for the feel-goods or for the quotes that seem to just naturally roll off your tongue Beau. Either way, I look forward to that canoe film that you've now promised us.
My friend and I took this idea to work on our dissertations! I finished mine and she started hers, and we did a short workout on the hour (couldn't run to accommodate an injury, but the spirit was there!) It was a blast! We plan to do a short version (7-8 hours) monthly. Thanks for years of inspiration!
I love a beau miles video, so glad I discovered you a long time ago! I can't believe you're not at like 10M already, but knowing you...probably couldn't give a crap if you had 100 subs or 100M , mad entertaining & interesting outlook on life. You inspire me to be better.
What a delight. Thank you.
Glad to see you back on UA-cam mate great video. Glad to see you the finished the 12 days and are cracking on with more adventures. Keep it up Beau. You’re my spirit animal!
