- It is thought that one in 100 school children are affected by Tourette’s Syndrome, a neurological condition affecting the brain and nervous system that is characterized by involuntary, random sounds and movements, known as tics - most are boys.
There is no cure, but there is hope, thanks to the pioneering treatment program at the world-renowned leading children’s hospital Great Ormond Street. This moving documentary follows the lives of three boys and their families over a six-month period as they share the reality of living with the condition and the daily obstacles they face. This is their story, in their own words.

Marco has the sweetest, slightly sad eyes, and as if that's not enough to nearly make me cry, the moment when he was by himself folding origami after he was sent away to "calm down", I mean... holly hell that's heart breaking
He is a beautiful soul
As someone who was finally diagnosed with Tourettes at age 24, I can vouch how painful it is to be a small child rolling your eyes back in your head uncontrollably, squeaking and being "weird." I find it hard to watch these videos considering I wasn't able to achieve a diagnosis or an explanation until I had my own money in graduate school. God bless these kids.
It can be a lonely, miserable world .... without the right support systems to identify .... problems .... and help us clear, and fight .... beyond them. GOD BLESS! 💜💓💫
Amen.!
@@GottliebGoltz Amen .... AMEN! 💚🙏💜
I was diagnosed only a few months ago at 18 everyone thought it was my adhd I have Tourette’s and coprolalia
@@graceymacrae7445 Tourettes, ADHD, and OCD are all caused by dysfunction in the basal ganglia (part of the brain) so most people often have multiple overlapping disorders. Glad you got diagnosed!
That little boy jumping in a space suit along with planets had me smiling
The astronaut kid is stinking adorable. I hope they are all doing well these days
I feel so bad for the boy who was in the auditorium.. he was trying so hard not to have the ticks. It broke my heart 😞
You can tell Marco and Callum are both so intelligent, kind and well-spoken. If they can find find an understsnding and supportive environment there's no limit to what they can achieve! I hope they both have their dreams come true.
I hope good things for Connor as well, but I kind of feel bad for his little brother and the cat.
I understand the kid is not doing this intentionally but he can't be allowed to run around kicking that cat. The cat has every right to destroy him if he does.
famouslastwords 2019 i would get a Tourette cat instead.
I have Tourette’s. Was horrible throughout middle school and high school and after that my tics basically disappeared. Now I rarely, if ever tic. Any kid out there with Tourette’s, it’s gonna suck for a while, but many times it will get better. Puberty makes tics worse cuz of the hormonal imbalance, so many times after puberty symptoms of Tourette’s can improve
Same here
And I am in middle school
This is great to know, I didn't know this. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your experience
that's the diagnosed of a made-up disease
Why are you guys letting him treat that cat like that if you cant control your child give your animals away its not right to let him do that
Its verry wierd they laugh when he is being rude or agrasive...
Very enlightening video. Thanks to the boys and their families for stepping out of their comfort zones to educate us.
On a different note, some of the choices for the backround music are so strange
Omg facts like, let's just put some violin music behind a cursing kid
@@edubble5003 Just the usage of the most commonly known classical pieces and soundtracks is pretty... generic, and seems rather lazy, like the person responsible didn't care about the story the film is telling. I mean, Waltz of the Flowers for a car ride? Saint Saens aquarium for A HAIRCUT?! XD
I agree. I noticed they had the music from True Romance at the beginning which was confusing
😂😂😂I thought the same thing!
As for the circus music behind Connor's behavior I think it was to lighten the mood since his language can be so dark and offensive. It's shocking. Walking into a public place with a child using language like that probably feels like being in a circus...you don't know what to expect. I liked how they incorporated Rocket Man by Elton John for the sweet boy who wants to be an astronaut.
Marco is such a sweet heart I feel so bad for him poor baby
weird because conor doesn’t say bad words or hits and kicks when he’s with the doctor /physiatrist
kimberly escobar I know right?! I was thinking the same thing
@@bellewatson380 yesss lol
kimberly escobar it’s soooo weird... it’s like he can control it👀
Tics arent constant they take breaks they can also be held in
Hayley Blunt yes i’ve learned that a person with tics can hold it in but their in pain 😥
I'm so glad that Callum and Marco had success through therapy. On the other hand, Connor actually frightened me. In the video he stops just short of hitting the cat but freely strikes out at both of his parents. I think there's more going on with Connor than just TS and wonder how he's doing today.
Connor worried me as well.
Poor Marco looks so frustrated and stressed with his Tourette's. The other 2 boys look stressed too but not as defeated as Marco. I really feel for him and hope it gets easier for him.
I’m a Dad & Grandpa in my 50’s, and my TS is every bit as bad as it was when I was a teen/20 something. It went away for a few years & sadly returned with a vengeance. My marriage fell apart & have virtually zero quality of life now. I have no insurance & no medical treatment. My life is a living hell. Connor mostly reminds me of me when I was his age.
That's so hard to hear and it breaks my heart that life has been so hard for you. I pray you find relief, and that these kids don't suffer your fate.
God bless you
I hope things get better for you. Sending love and light
I wish you all the best! I am sure it required much strength of you to go through all this.
Sweet boys.. they make my heart smile the way they try so hard.. beautiful souls!!
All the commenters saying connor is "faking" or "misbehaving", did y'all see the video? He can't control it. He is older than the others, and so the treatment is less effective. He also has more unpleasant tics yes, but he cannot help it. Please have some compassion.
THIS. ABSOLUTELY THIS
THANK YOU, YOU’RE SMART.
Oh darlyn. It breaks my hesrt to see these babies go through this. I believe in prayers and I'll be praying ng for them
they all look like baby angels. if i have a son like them, i will love and care for all of them no matter what it takes.
As a Rehabilitation worker at a Children's Rehabilitation centre in Zimbabwe I have seen that parental love and family support is of utmost importance to children with neurological problems and other conditions
I suffer with Extreme RLS and I can't help but notice how trying to suppress my leg movements must be what Tourette's must feel like...it's painful and close to impossible. Much love.🤍
The Connor kid, he sounds like he justifies everything by saying he got Tourettes.. Not that I am a specialist but mind conditioning, proper education helps. He can actually just shout without cussing.. the parents should also be firm.
"not that i'm a specialist", well, there you have the answer to why you think a legitimate medical condition can be cured by parents being firm. Imagine if it was diabetes instead of tourettes - "not that i'm a specialist, but if his parents were firmer i'm sure his blood sugar would behave itself".
Jack o Jack and eaten Kate... Diabetes is a disease and Tourettes is a syndrome. They are different from each other, so different specialists are needed. And it's not an ignorant comment, I was just telling what worked for me. We can't afford a specialist back then so my parents did what seems to work that time. They did their best to be educated and learn more about Tourettes. I'm not really or fully "cured" but somehow, I am able to control my tics & those what I used to call "toot-toot" moments. Thanks anyway.
He literally cannot shout without cussing. And I think the parents are little less firm because they don't know what is a tick and what isn't. So if they punish him for a tick, that's going to be very bad. Right?
I'm sorry, but Connor makes me a little uncomfortable when he swears. I know it's part of the condition, but seeing and hearing a 12 year old swear so much...
Yeah… and once he has heard of the n word….
These kids needs compassion, understanding and to be included in activities with other kids. This is an illness and I imagine it presents differently from person to person. I hate people judging what they don’t know. Many of the comments on here are insensitive.
All of these parents are absolutely gorgeous. The amount of support and encouragement they give their kids is really amazing. Good on em:))
Connor is giving me some Eric Cartman vibes
First thought that came to my mind.
That kid is faking. The one cursing and hitting. You can’t tell me he can’t control his dirty mouth !!
Lol yea
That's not how it works
Marco❤
Connor, what a clever little boy. He’s taking advantage of his entire family with his “tics”. I’m not saying he doesn’t have Tourettes, but not to the extent that he’s displaying
Why does Connor make me think of that episode of South park where Eric fakes Tourette's but ends up going too far. That's him, I don't buy it.
So let’s not be ableist sis and pretend to know someone on the internets life. You are literally bullying a disabled child because he doesn’t fit your expectation for disabled
Me too!! He is just an angry, sociopath- it starts young.
@None of your business. Its called a joke. Calm it.
It’s just SO bad that the most common tics are also the behaviours that children do when they are misbehaving. It just puts a label on them as a ‘problem’ and a target for bullies early on. And in public, it stigmatizes the family. Especially hitting, threats and bad language. So misunderstood and ostracizing.
I know Connor can't help it but he should definitely not have pets.
Yeah the fact that connor has stop the treatment dont surprise me i found of the 3 his ticks are the less conviecing
This is an old video and how old are they now?
and how can I get to know them?
i was thinking the same thing
is it interesting how they are doing now in 2020?
@@alqoohiro1348 Callum actually went to secondary school and sixth form with me, he is off to uni in September to study sports science i think
connor does not have Tourette he is straight up saying full sentences while cursing lol got to be a joke
This connor kid seems to be verry angry...
Those other 2 verry sweet...
Miki van Duyn if little kids are angry you can’t fault them. They reflect their environment...
Turette makes him so aggressiv, he also says it
He's aggressive when he tics
Did you not watch the documentary??
@@rexremedy1733 its just an observation not faulting him at al...

these kids are amazing I wish I could HUG each of them.
17:24 sorry but im laughing so damn hard at this lmao
I laughed so hard when the kid went crazy on the Brussel sprout
@@oval2k551 im so sorry😂😥
I have the disorder and I can’t help it
Sometimes you have to make fun of yourself to make you feel better
@@artistlegend17 really?
I cant imagine what these poor kids or anyone with this problem is going through really. I really hope one day science can find a cure!
So heart breaking. All are such good kids.
I take my hat off to these parents
Not sure about Conner though
what’s going on with you guys thinking Connor doesn’t have tourettes??? first of all, I don’t think y’all are doctors. second of all, Connor LITERALLY went to the doctor and got a proper diagnosis. You guys are seriously overreacting. “His parents should discipline him” THEY HAVE. HE’S A GOOD KID, Y’ALL. It’s TOURETTES SYNDROME, LITERALLY AHAT THE ENTIRE DOCUMENTARY IS ABOUT. He doesn’t swear by choice, y’all. He’s only 12 and is saying things a 12 yr shouldn’t even know. No way his parents showed him anything nasty. His grandma even said “Sometimes he’ll say things he doesn’t even understand.” And that just proves my point. I’m not a doctor, and I’m not claiming to be one. I don’t think Connor would be faking this sort of thing. Thank you for your time.
They are loody ignorants
All these boys are beautiful.
*IS THIS AVAILABLE ON DVD SOMEWHERE?*
Marco has the cutest tick.😊 He's very adorable.
You had me cackling at his throwing Brussels then crying in a split second.
They are so cute and amazing despite of their conditions.
So if Connor punches a classmate in the face and the classmate reciprocates, Connor won’t get in trouble because he has a “condition”, right?
No parent would tolerate that some kids gets a free pass after hitting or kicking someone. Having TS cannot be a free pass for behavior that harms other people and animals. BTW: swearing in TS is EXTREMELY RARE & this one kid Connor seems to always be swearing. And it’s not fair to everyone else to have to put up with someone screaming swear words . Until any child can behave properly in public they need to stay home. You can’t make allowance for one person at the expense of everyone else.
all of these kids seem cool, it’d be fun to talk to them all. And i don’t mean because of their Tourettes, they genuinely seem like nice kids
I’m someone who’s suspecting I have some tics and this was interesting to watch
What's the prognosis for Tourette’s? Are there any success stories?
They have let this Connor get away with murder. Something tells me he can control it a bit but doesn't even try. His tic Is the most dangerous one, bc he can easily insult someone and they can hit him.
Nasa better see this and give Callum a free trip to space. He's too cute.
One thing though, could they injure or kill a pet due to their tics?
TO CONNOR'S PARENTS:
PLEASE make him a stand up comic, with all my respect that kid deserves his own reality show, he's PRICELESS!
I dont understand why he is cussing and hitting and the other kids dont cuss can this be stopped into something positive
Tourette syndrome comes in many different forms, like so many other diseases/syndromes as well. Most people with it have physical tics and/or make noises. I think it's only 10% that have vocal tics and swear. Some people with tourette's have very little and mild tics that barely interfere with their lives while others have constant and "extreme" tics which leaves those people with a horrible quality of life (basically unable to function).
It cant be stopped that's not how it works
no it can't, that's the whole thing with tourette's, you can not stop it, there is absolutely no way you can stop it, for them it's like a sneeze, you can try and hold it in but in the end it's going to come out and most likely worse and painful
no it can't, that's the whole thing with tourette's, you can not stop it, there is absolutely no way you can stop it, for them it's like a sneeze, you can try and hold it in but in the end it's going to come out and most likely worse and painful
to the people in the comment section: please stop fake claiming literal 10 year olds
Keep on lying
Keep fighting 🥰🥰🥰
Puberty doesn't help, either. Poor kids
That's lil Bruce Wayne from batman begins
I seriously would not brining Connor out in public spaces unless absolutely necessary. There is something way off besides the Tourettes... he gives me the creeps.
I wonder if Connor besides tourette may also have some sort of agresivity issue?
Why is the True Romance music in this
Is refractionary hellish speaking, movement??, the human brain's punishment? ..... Where do these train of thought, patterns?? originate from?
With tourette's you copy what you hear
Sometimes Americans need proper subtitles.
I am so proud of all u boy's :)
I dont like how the family of the boy with the glass react. Where do you draw the line between the tiks and bad behavior!? And to laugh about it like it was ok to throw fruit juice at his grand dad i find that not good at all. If he Can manage to not kick a ball he certainly could manage to slap 10 centimetr beside the face of his dqdd or throw the juice at himself or at an other direction than his grand dad...
"They put sperm in my coffee"
Even those with this condition should be taught and properly disciplined . No swearing, no destructive behavior.
I have 6 children. Their father has motor tics. 2 of our 6 children have motor tics. I assure you that your belief posted is flawed. This condition has nothing to do with proper parenting. The more you attempt to suppress the motor tic, the more physical pain the person feels. Your approach would cause a divide between your child and you, doing nothing to improve the tic.
that's literally not how it works they CANT control it, it's like the one kid said it's not them swearing it's "johnny" or Tourette's, that's just what it is, tics aren't them saying it and most times it's not even something they're thinking, it just happens like someone else saying it but it comes out of your mouth -a kid with tics
Not how it works. When you have tics, you cannot control what you say or do. If you swear, you cannot tell them “HEY NO SWEARING” and get upset every time they do, that’s so wrong of you to do.
So real Tourettes not the Tik-Tokurettes.
Sheesh
Connor is faking, his grandma basically diagnosed him. She threw it out there and put it in his head. He's nonchalantly cursing on Q playing it up for the camera. There's nothing involuntary about what's coming out of his mouth. He's more than comfortable saying those things with tourettes as an excuse.
He's acting the way he thinks kids with Tourette's are supposed to act and he's starving for attention.
The other kids have it💯
But he doesn't.
Get offended if you want, it's the obvious truth.
ya bludy wankahs
I'm all for inclusion but it isn't fair for the other kids without behavior problems to be around that in the classroom.
Every child should have the option to be with every child else and to have a normal life. A disability should not automatically make a child isolated from their peers
Well the second boy would be ok around me because every other word I say is the f word.
Can the parents of connor tie is hand down temporary. Only so he can't hit them. When they walk near them.
That's literally terrible.
that’s terrible honestly. Why not suggest holding his hands?

I believe it's an evil spirit why is it always negative?
I could never be around these kids. No explanation at all on what it is. Unbelievable.
the video is literally all about explaining the condition and what they're going through, do some research on tourettes syndrome. the whole video was an explanation, and literally googling "tourettes syndrome" is explanation enough. they cannot control what they're doing, its *involuntary* and you're making it seem like these kids are "misbehaving" on purpose.
You're the reason these children have anxiety being in public. They cannot help it, it's a neurological disorder. Please be more understanding and I hope that you've changed your opinion.
Sounds like kids withADHD!
that's probably because adhd can cause tics, i have tics from my adhd
Connor
That one kid does not have turrets he's faking it
The boy saying bad words...i think it's too much ...i think it's more then tourette's...he's different then the rest . It' seems to be more on the evil side 😢
