If you have already registered as a DBA, how do you transition that into an LLC? I am currently DBA, "MyBusiness". How do I go about transitioning to "MyBusiness, LLC"
No reply yet?
I'm not an attorney but I did what you're asking by 1. Opening an LLC 2.Went downtown courthouse where you open DBA and close it then reopen under LLC 3. If you have EIN for the DBA. Open a new one from the IRS. And request to close your old one (closing it was done by writing a letter explaining to the IRS to close EIN. Google it). 4. If you have a bank, after you have the LLC's Certificate of Formation, and EIN, go them and tell them you want to add your LLC while keeping your original DBA name. Also, you must have them update your new EIN. Good luck.
Would the DBA under the llc work for a production company llc and a nonprofit dba? Same message for both just one for profit and one for awareness and giving back
I have an INC and use my home address. About to open a business with a DBA under this same INC. Because I use my home address. If I get sued does that threaten my house? Someone had told me to change it to LLC. Not sure if it's correct. Can you please reply? Thanks. Glad I ran into your channel.
You can get a virtual address. In my state, you can also use the circuit of the court address but your personal address will be on file and confidential.
Do you have to file for a fictitious name with your state first or can you just file for trademark
This was extremely helpful. Thanks!
A little bit crazy, smart and funny! :) Thank you for your amazing videos! I appreciate that you are able to explain boring topics without putting me to sleep! Your videos have answered a lot of my questions about forming a business.
Just a liiiiiiitle crazy. :-) Thank you for watching!
She ain’t crazy, she’s smart enough to give us GREAT INFORMATION YEAH!!!!!!!!
@@allupinyobiz LOL! Y'all forgot pretty.
Great video! Thanks for your awesome content! Life saver !
If I had an LLC, for example called "Cow Burger LLC", and obviously wanted to put just "Cow Burger" on logos, windows, graphics, business cards, menus, etc., would I need to register the "Cow Burger" without "LLC" as a DBA?
Or can I get by with just the LLC but need to include the "LLC" on checks, purchase orders, and other business paperwork?
so if you want your company to have an image, your logos and slogan have to do with trademarking. you gotta get that dome as well as the LLC.
What about if you are opening a ministry with different outreach purposes with different names how is this approached with a 501(c)3
Same concepts apply. 501(c)3 is just the way the company is taxed. It doesn’t affect how the company can use state-level trade names. Thanks for the great question!
Thank you for this excellent advice!.......Still hoping you can discuss transitioning from a dba to an LLC at some point.
Finally someone who breaks it down completely. Thank you.
Hi! If you start out with making your trade name a DBA under your current LLC, can you transition that DBA trade name to be it's on LLC at any point in the future?
Kristin Daniel id like to know this also
Same question! 🤚🏾
Me too!
I was wondering the same thing
Thank you i learn alot from you .i love your videos
I'm leasing a truck. But I have other businesses I intend to create. #Riverfloww
Hey what's more important to do first, LLC or trademark?
Thank you SO much for sharing this video! I've been struggling with this very issue. Good explanation. I know what I need to do now.
Miss You 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Hi! Your videos have been very helpful in my journey. If you could, I would like to know Who pays the taxes if an LLC owns a DBA? Also, would a DBA pay the yearly franchise tax in California?
Thank You!
The DBA is not a separate entity from the LLC so it's only the LLC that is taxed. I can't say for sure that the same applies to the CA franchise tax. You'll need to double check with an attorney who is licensed in CA, but I'm pretty sure it would still be the LLC that pays the franchise tax since the DBA is not its own entity.
Do I need a DBA if I want to operate my business under a different name than the name registered on the LLC documents?
For example ;
I registered my LLC in the name "ABC LLC" and I wanna market my products in the name "ABC" (without the suffix LLC) do I need a DBA in that case?
OR
I register my LLC name as "ABC LLC" and I wanna market my products under a completely different name called "XYZ" do I need to file a DBA in that case?
Question, but if I have a LLC for Real Estate which in legalese means Property, why can’t I use that one LLC on on Personal property as in my Bills, my check, my credit (which is my bills) and all negotiable instruments that have my person’s name on it? Wouldn’t that be similar in nature? Your feedback.
Having a corporation name ABC, do I need a dba if I advertise as ABC Music? Thank you.
I just found your videos...OMG! The info is crazy, plus you are wonderful! My question is if I decide to start my business as a sole Proprietor do I go to my local office and file a DBA? And should I put that on my banking and EIN info? Thanks so much. I am working my way through ALL of your videos. I have learned so much!!!
So if you have one LLC there's really no need to Register a Fictitious name unless you're planning to do other work? Also if wanted, could you use the same name as your business when Registering a Fictitious name? Thanks.
If I want to have one LLC and under that LLC you provide Consumer Credit Repair and the other service is Business credit and Funding, What do you suggest is the best way to go, have two LLC?
With that been said. What is your recommendation?
Could I apply my registered Sole proprietorship/ DBA age to a new LLC (Same business)
Hi aidan I have a cleaning company in Syracuse New York , but is not register I paid taxes at the end of the year using my ssn ,but I want to be more professional it just my self between dba or llc what you recommended? Thank you
Good info…I have Llc,can I get a D.B.A as well if there’s any benefits,thanks 👍
Do you happen to have an absorbing, awesome and highly-advanced graphic for this comparison? ;)
Hi! You have great information on your channel! So if you registered a sole proprietorship, haven't yet applied for an EIN for it, then later create a LLC with a pretty similar name-- can you operate both businesses under the EIN you ultimately obtain under the LLC? I hope that's clear enough.
I have a LLC for a ministry.I want to start another business for girls. Both business are doing services. But both businesses are unrelated. Should I add another LLC for the business for girls?
So DBA/LLC (sole proprietor) is pretty much the same. Which do you suggest to save on taxes?
I have a LLC and I was wondering do I need a DBA? I'm confused
If I have multiple businesses under 1 LLC, can I later separate them into multiple LLC's?
I’m trying to start my online store. I have already gotten a dba. Now I’m stuck trying to figure out what I need to do or if I missed a step in getting the right licenses and paperwork to officially start buying with wholesalers and selling for my store.
With a notary business does it matter whether you have a DBA or LLC. One person mentioned that an LLC doesn't protect you still. When you operate as a sole practitioner.
I would like to open a DBA for small online business in NJ, Can i use my personal current bank account to deposit the earnings ?
If all of my companies are protected under that one LLC then whats the difference? They are all protected
Can I have the LLC under me and have the DBA under my wife's name and still operate as one company?
Will be too much in CA, $800 per year min. LLC tax.
This was right to the point and extremely helpful. Thank you
What if they are not similar? Like as an independent nanny as a sole proprietor and sell my own journals on the side?
Thanks for this video, your advice is very helpful for budding entrepreneurs. :-)
OK, so what is a DBA and you didn't explain the LLC vs DBA. Oh that was in 2016 I'm seeing this in 2019.
watch this one instead ua-cam.com/video/YIgKRsBy0CM/v-deo.html
You broke it down very well! Thank youuuuuuuuuuu! Put me at ease.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I'VE LOOKED EVERYWHERE FOR AN ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS AND COULDN'T FIND IT; YOU ANSWERED IT PERFECTLY AND CONCISELY AND NOW I CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT. Again, much appreciated. That is all. ^-^
I’ve read that in Florida that the single member llc doesn’t protect you if something happens.
Yes, I've heard the same thing but I'm not familiar enough with Florida law to really speak on it. It's best to consult with an attorney who is licensed in FL!
This video helped me the most so far. I have 3 entirely different businesses (Lawncare, Commercial Cleaning, and Security Systems) and might even start a 4th (Graphic Design). My lawncare business has been successful, and the others I've just started. Of course, lawncare has some liability, but commercial cleaning is probably a bit greater, and security systems is even greater still! I'm currently operating as a sole proprietor and have for several years. But, after watching your video's, I think one LLC, at the least, would be wise. Now, after watching this particular video, having multiple LLC's seems to be even more wise.
Thanks for the free help, Aiden! If you lived in South Dakota, I'd probably be giving you a call for more help (as I'd rather have someone else handle this sort of stuff for me while I go out and bring home the bacon). At any rate, I subscribed to your channel, so, I hope that offers some level of reciprocity for you at least! And, I'd be happy to design a logo for you if you don't already have one, or aren't satisfied with it! No charge! I do it for fun! Just let me know!
Thanks again for your time and effort! God bless!
As a foot note, I make my own logos. I named my business AL MOWIT (the logo is my pic) . I did so for a few of reasons: 1) It'd put me at the front of the yellow pages. 2) I figured if I made anyone angry, they would just go looking for some guy named Al, who doesn't exist. 3) My slogan is, "If You Can't Mow It, AL MOWIT!"
#1 I still have yet to even be in the yellow pages.
#2 is the only liability coverage I have lol
#3 Considering your style of humor, I hope it made you smile :)
Al mowit, plz advise how you registered different business names while you did not hv LLC ?? and how you looking all this business names under sole proprietorship? Plz advise what type of your sole proprietorship ?
You spoke about LLC's but didn't mention anything about DBA's. You said trade name, is this the same as DBA?
Yes, same thing.
Ok, thanks for the info on LLCs and using Trade names under it. I was looking for DBA info given your video title. How do you begin with a DBA only?....as far as business bank account etc.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Nice informative Video, Thanks, I am startting a Photography business in Michigan, I am starting with just a D.B.A., although it may involve a few different types or Styles of Photography, but ALL will be concerning Photography. Would you think that Multiple DBA names would be required?

Single LLC with multiple businesses - Would I just make my LLC operating agreement different, more detailed?
Hi! Your channel is awesome. Thank you for all the info. I'm a yoga instructor and I have the opportunity to provide other services where I contract other yoga instructors to teach, deliver workshops, etc. Should I go with a LLC for my teachings and a DBA to contract and provide "services" through independent contract teachers? Thank you :)
Thanks Aiden, I love all the information you are given, I not in your state but it still helps. I wish you would do on Hair Salon owner Example: Sally Joe LLC and DBA as Mark hair salon can this be done and is Mark hair salon protected under Sally Joe LLC, what do would be the best to sign all paperwork and as Sally Joe LLC / DBA Mark Hair Salon or it can be just signed as Mark Hair Salon .Thanks for all your help ... Alabama
Quick question. You have been very helpful im glad you're doing this online. The deal is i have an LLC set up in North Dakota and im starting my moms business in Kansas. Im thinking of starting my moms business as a DBA under my North Dakota LLC. She lives in Kansas but ill technically own her business in ND. I need to know if its ok for her to live and operate her business mostly in Kansas and be registered under my ND LLC? I hope you get this!
Thank you very much for the video. Very informative. I was wondering with one LLC, how can you multiple books for your accounting, do you open a separate company in quick book for each DBA
Hi Aiden,
First I want to say thanks for always providing such great and detailed content, it's always appreciated.
Secondly, I have a question for you which may be a bit of a dumb question but I just want to make sure I'm thinking in the right direction and understanding clearly. I'm planning on creating a record label, and I also want to have a publishing company within that label, so would I need to create 2 different LLCs ( one for the label and the other for publishing) or should I have a different trade name for my publishing company within the LLC?
I hope I'm asking that question the right way, haha. Anyway, I look forward to your reply and thanks for any information you are able and willing to give :).
Hi Aiden, this is a very nice video, thanks for sharing. I have a question related to this if under a LLC we have a DBA registered and its in same industry so the Liability issue i getit but what if we TRADEMARK that DBA NAME will that give us protection as no one else can use the name ?
Good info. Ty
Hi Aiden, i have a question that i really need an answer to. I'm in the very beginning stages of building my company and want know if its possible for your LLC to have say a painters license without you actually having to go through the process of obtaining one. for example, if i had a member obtain one through the LLC or if i partnered with a licensed painter making him a member. would that automatically qualify my business as "licensed?"
is there a better strategy?
You are entertaining! You remind me of the movie legally blonde - Funny yet witty.. Too bad you don’t have jurisdiction in CA otherwise; I’d love to have you as an Attorney.
I had an LLC billing biz that started 5 years ago but I am no longer active with it, meaning no clients but I want to start tutoring biz which has different clients from the LLC. Would it make sense to do DBA under that LLC than create another LLC?
My question is: I opened multiply Corporations but never used it and never closed it with the IRS. is that bad? who bad it is? how do I fixed?
I'm thinking about starting a record label that eventually I want to do novels, comics, fashion, songwriting and more so would having one LLC be good enough????
Hello Aiden , I have a C-Corp and have 3 DBA under the Corporation do I need a separate EIN for each DBA?
EIN?
Can a sole proprietor llc be a division of a corporation without losing its age. I have a llc but would like to put it under my corp as a division for protection and age the newly formed corp. How would I do that? Thanks
How about a single member llc form a dba with other individuals not apart of the LLC? How would that work?
I'm opening up a moving company and I'm the only owner. What would be the best for this type of business?
Thank you for explaining this so concisely and in under 10 minutes!
You are the best! I love your videos very clear and easily understandable!! Thank you so much
Love, love love your videos. Thank you so much, please keep the content coming.
Thanks so much for your clear information. It was extremely helpful.
Hey gorgeous, what is I'm purchasing investment properties, & I want them all separate, but under a "business" with out them being connected?
Hi Aiden, Your videos are on time. Will a DBA be considered a division of the original llc or C- corp? Thank you
Yo, Aiden! You're a rockstar!!!
😊 Thank you! I appreciate you.
If I have a dba, can checks be written to any of the 2 companies?
Question, am I supposed to trademark the trade name or the LLC? I'm so stuck on that part. Thank you for this information.
You could possibly trademark both. But if the trade name is the primary name that you use for the business, it is most likely better to trademark the trade name.
Can you have DBAs under one S-Corp?
Yes you can.
Would you recommend legal zoom or incfile vs hiring an attorney for incorporation for an LLC ?
Your videos are so good and so helpful and informative you are amazing and beautiful I love to watch you LOL
Hi will you do a monthly payment with me for consulting?
Do you set up LLC'S for Wyoming residents or do you only set up for Colorado? I need to get mine set up pretty soon.
awesome, thank you very much!
If i get an LLC for the business, does the business still need a DBA?
I'm located in Hawaii, could I open an umbrella company with your firm or do I need to do it in Hawaii?
Hi Aiden, I am a new subscriber and very impressed with your videos. Thank you so much. Could you please tell me if it is better to establish a separate LLC for individual rental properties in lieu of grouping 3 to 5 rentals under one LLC? Concerned about the potential liability problems that could come from owning multiple rentals. Thanks so much, Joe
Do you ever talk about partnerships?
Hey how would you go about adding a vehicle under the llc and you already bought it under your name thanks again
After finding your posts a few weeks ago, you've been very helpful, Aiden. I always look forward to your new videos, and will continue to keep you in mind for any possible referrals.
So much good information! Thanks Aiden!
👍🏿🤘🏿
Do I need a DBA if I want to remove the “LLC” when marketing my business? Thank you great video
Pretty sure the answer is yes. LLC has to be apart of your name. But you can do dba as same name without the llc.
Hard decision
love your videos I've learned so much from you thank you from Texas!
Keep'em coming! Great video I wish my lawyer was as pleasing to the eyes as you ;)
What if you want to take your business on the go and how can you do that
