Thanks for the info, your channel is very helpful!! Are there any downsides to not paying yourself? I started a single member LLC for my side photography business (not my main income) but I like to keep what I make from it in the account and use the account for business expenses (photography gear).
Definitely not! It's a great idea to keep the money in your biz I'd you don't need it for yourself. BUT keep in mind that you'll be paying taxes on it even if you don't pay it out to yourself.

Hello Aiden, Thank you so much for Blessing me with your knowledge. Could you please do a Video on the advantages and disadvantages of placing your primary residence into a LLC. Thank you Abby
Thank you so much for what you do!!! But I'm a little bit confused about single member LLC? Member managed how would I pay myself as a check or. I can take out like sole proprietor? Or a salary
You can write yourself a check or take the money out any other way you'd like (withdraw cash, wire transfer, whatever). It's only considered a "salary" if your LLC is taxed as an S Corp.
I just started a single member LLC in Illinois , doing real estate rentals. I have a day job Woking as a union electrician . I was wondering if I could consolidate my day job and income from the LLC together annually. If so ,do I have to specify this in my operating agreement? Thank you!
Thanks for the info. Been making a lot more money lately and need a way to figure out how to divide up the money coming in to ensue each category gets proper portions (overhead, self, taxes)
Great video! I just started reading Profit First today before I found your video and set up my different bank accounts. In addition to the profit account I set up a donation account that gives 10% of the profits. At what point do you switch from an LLC not taxed as an S-Corp to a an S-Corp? Thanks! Maggie
How would this work for an LLC (sole proprietor) that isn't making much money? Another question is if they taxed a business not making over $500 as they are making $500, should paying taxes be more important than distribution if there is small revenue? Under $500 meaning first year start, and mostly expenses paid out of personal funds.
Great video. Any thoughts on how to invest the excess in the "Profit Account", or just pay this out as a Distribution then invest in Taxable Investment Account? Tax advantages either way? Is this taxed as Salary, Distribution, or just business profits?
Great videos. So if I'm a S-Corp and don't need to pay myself can I leave it in my business? Looking to become a good vendor and I'll only vend on weekends and may not be every weekend. How do I set up a salary if I'm not vending that next few weeks? Thank you
Great information thank you. Love the new intro too. The key to everything you said is making sure your business is making enough to pay yourself. That's where I struggle. Currently my wife and I are 50-50 owners of an LLC taxed as an S-corp. Your video makes the third time I've heard the book Profit First mentioned this week. Guess I need to see if it's on Audible.
Of course, making the money is definitely the hardest part! That's why I really liked Profit First. You get to pay yourself something, even if it is just a tiny amount, no matter how much revenue is coming in.
Hello Aiden! I just discovered one of your old videos tonight. I am starting a new business and need all the help I can get. You really give great information. Thanks!! :) [new subbie]
I'd love to know more about Real Estate Holding companies. I live in the state of Maryland but want to buy a rental property in Pennsylvania so I formed a Pennsylvania LLC because that is where my income will be earned for this business. Since I am a Maryland resident I don't know if I should form another LLC in Maryland as a parent company to the Pennsylvania LLC.
Hey, thanks for this video! I just saw your recent version of this too. They both answered my questions but formed another question for me lol. So you said that we can draw money to pay ourselves whenever we want, but what if you haven’t paid income and self employment tax for the profits yet? How do you pay for taxes for self payments that weren’t taxed yet? Do you just keep records of how much I paid myself in total, until tax time (whether estimated or yearly)?
Aiden, thanks for your videos, I find them pretty helpful and informative. Do you think you would do one on strategies for buying a business vehicle? Such as buying vs. leasing, or methods for reducing taxes, etc. Thanks
Question- If you are married -starting an LLC for a rental property in NC . Would it be better to form LLC in one spouse's name or form the LLC in both spouse name.? We own the house rented outright and plan to put it in the LLC .
It's going to vary a LOT depending on the attorney. My fees generally work out to be about $1500 total per trademark and that includes doing a clearance search, filing the application, and responding to non-substantive office actions. Some attorneys charge a lot more than that, but they may include additional services. Some may charge a lot less, but usually they are ONLY filing the application for you. It's important to not just ask about the cost, but make sure you understand everything that is included and what you're expecting to get out of it.
so from your suggestion from the book "Profit first" you are setting up several checking acccounts in the name of the LLC to cover expenses, taxes, and distributions? Is one of them a business savings account?
@@allupinyobiz if all the accounts are opened in the LLC's name, can legally transfer the money between each of these business accounts? or is taxes gonna come into play here and I need to talk to an accountant?
@@progressforamerica6883 you definitely need to tlk to an accountant! You generally won't have any tax issues with transferring money between accounts of the same business. It's also typically fine "legally" to do so. But all of that majorly depends on your circumstances and the types of accounts and the kind of work you do, etc. So yes, talk to a pro!!
Did I miss something? Why do I need to pay myself? I’ve been using my company bank card to pay for all my personal expenses. If I pay myself then won’t I need to pay both my personal and my company taxes?
duh.. you are still an "employee".. just you are not working for someone else, but yourself. Depending how you pay yourself.salary(through payroll cheque), dividend or pay out as a distribution. Which one you choose determines the rate of which you are taxed. For example as an employee in X state has to pay(hypothetically) 40% tax of which if you pay yourself as an employee you'd deduct off your pay cheque through your human resources or you have to set that aside for tax time. As a distribution or dividend you could possibly take your tax % anywhere from 0 to aprox 15%. Or never take out any "capital gains" and never pay tax ;)
Can I deposit my check into my business LLC? I'm in the entertainment business and need to attend trade shows and film festivals but my business doesn't have any money but these expenses are real.
