  • Lyrics:
Nothing can take us far enough emotion
    Far enough together
As the light shines so bright
Bright enough to let us in
Nothing can bridge our souls' devotion
    Fast enough together
As the power proves you right
Right enough to let you begin
So many displaced among the future dreamers
    Realized their doubles
    Took a new step
    A question of origin
    Only in the recent past
    Seekers fought to realize
    Skyward shone like beacons
    A question of origin
    Ten thousand millions flee
    To the westward light
    The dreamers represent
    This arc of peace
    As the poets entranced
    The anchor redeemed
    Secrets of science
    The history of the future
    Was surely made
Just what keeps us so alive
    Just what makes us realize
Our home is our world, our life
    Home is our world
Nothing can take us far enough emotion
    Far enough together
As the light shines so bright
Bright enough to let us in
Nothing can bridge our souls devotion
    Fast enough together
As the power proves you right
Right enough to let you begin
Speak so fast to the prophets of the living
    Looking for the signs
    Spanning out the centuries
    Search for truth
Ancient ones, they watch and listen
    Carry our wishes
Took upon themselves to guide us
    Through the endless skies
Just what keeps us so alive
    Just what makes us realize
Our home is our world, our life
Our hope is our world, our life
    I have seen the passion
That's in the hope that everyone
Will find their way into the secret
Of the home of your heart
    Living within the vision
    Within the power, beyond belief
We see that hate destroys the soul
Of anyone who tries to teach it
    I have seen the dream
    That's in your heart
    That's in your eyes
To bring you closer to the one
It's what keeps us so alive
    It's what makes us realize
Our home is our world, our life
Just what keeps us so alive
    Just what makes us realize
Our home is our world, our life
Home is our world, our life
    Send, ascending to the secrets
All is pure and clear to resolve
    Nothing can change us now
    Send, ascending to the future
Nothing can ever change us now
    We follow the sun
    We follow the sun
    We follow the sun
    Truth is a simple place
Here for us all to see
Reach as it comes to you
    As it comes to me
As I will always need you inside my heart
Peace is a word we teach
A place for us all to reach
Sing as it sings to you
    As it sings to me
As I will always need you inside my heart

It was a brave choice in 2000 for the makers of the game Homeworld to request a 70's style progressive rock concept song for their soundtrack, and build the entire ambient soundtrack around it. This is probably why it worked so well.
Perfect atmosphere for the game, on top of a song and lyrics which fit perfectly (it's as if they designed the game around this song). Quite possibly the best theme tune ever put into a video game.

    • @mikereiss4216
      @mikereiss4216 9 років тому +4

Only thing is this was recorded and released in 1999 so the video game makers must have been looking for something to fit. I imagine the song came before the game based on the release date.

    • @CADJewellerySkills

Agreed. I suspect they based the game on the song.

I remember that on completion - finally...
      "You are here..."
I'm sure it still has to be in the top 10 for best music scores - like try to out-do YES... Was more drawn to it being an Xer Yes Fan remembering what was popular when in diapers and discovering "Progressive" rock never died, just the slimy bland mainstream doesn't show it, but it kept going no care.
As far as game music - it was an excellent "First" but now that games are made with a lot more money and there's far more memory/space certainly things have improved.
I'd cite the game Nier Automata.
Also anything Akiko Shikata has had a hand in, like the Ar Tonelico/Ciel Nosurge series.

@@blackflag66 Chris Welch confirms that in his book, "Close to the Edge: The Story of YES." The band had been talking with Relic and Sierra about a request to make something for the game.
So yes, the song is actually based on the game. :)

Man, Homeworld was so glorious. That ambiance. That narration. I still remember. Karen S'Jet and Fleet Command. Seeing Karaak burn. The odyssey. Cataclysm was a slight step down, though I did love The Beast. And then the second one was beautiful. I still need to finish it, because of that damn station capture mission. Yes, three, four, five battlecruisers, please, my fleet is almost recovered.
    The sleeper has awakened.

I guess Im in the minority of loving Yes but actually preferring the stuff from the 80's to now over the old stuff. Dont get me wrong love all of it, but the newer albums to me have more emotion, and the melodies resonate with me. The album Talk is a freakin beautiful, overlooked album for instance. Trevor Rabin is amazing too. This track here, Homeworld, looove this sound for them, kinda old and new sounding to me.

This is one of the best songs, or albums after the initial breakup of the classic lineup. They did epics like "Mind Drive' in the 90's and that was fun, but the Ladder is remarkably of good quality in every way, and holds up after many plays. Still not quite as amazing as the old stuff, but they really had it together on this album. It seems to be a major effort, and doesn't feel like a cheezy re-union album.

KommandantDahl The last I heard, it'll take SpaceX 20 years to even put plans for a Mars colony into motion. Given that, and assuming 186 years (the amount of time it took to establish the USA from 13 disparate colonies) from the founding of the first Mars settlement to a full-blown self-sustaining nation, 200+ years would have to pass before anything on Mars would be treated as worthy of a passport. We'll all be dead by then. Sorry.

Makes me wonder if it's in the original versions that shipped with the remastered collection. I know they edited the old versions to remove any mention of Multiplayer options. Wonder if they did the same to the credits music.

    • @IncapableLP
      @IncapableLP 7 років тому +3

Probably. it is a new release, no matter how old the game is, you have to apply a license on that too.
That is why they changed the name of Homeworld: Cataclysm to Homeworld: Emergence on GoG, so they don't get sued by Blizzard, because of WoW!
I mean Rockstar went so far, that they removed some of the music like 10 years after they released San Andreas, because the license ran out.
      Sucks...

The way this song came to be is a trip. Yes was just… in town, and they wanted to write a song for a video game.
So they wrote a song for the video game.

As good a song as anything in the Yes canon. I am an expert (harumph) on Yes, and stubbornly maintain that 'Ladder' and 'Magnification' were renaissance times for Yes. Very different albums truly showcasing their variable talents, with mature full-blown prog-rock or pop delicacies all over the place. This is arguably the last major 'classic' of the Jon Anderson era, yet is just one of a raft of good songs on 'The Ladder'. Turn it up.

    • @harmono8766
      @harmono8766 6 років тому +1

I could agree with that to a certain extent. 'Magnification' is flawed to me in that it doesn't have keyboards, and I don't like the Orchestral parts. The Ladder is more remarkable, and is very under-rated, and unknown. But I would agree that probably the best stuff they did with the Howe lineup after 1980's Drama album is the Ladder.

The Ladder is great. It's not very poppy or at least not as much as their other post seventies releases and it's also not deliberately trying to sound like seventies prog yes(like the keys to ascension stuff). Great album.

    • @MrNercules
      @MrNercules 5 років тому

I agree. The thing that a lot of 'old Yes diehards' fail to appreciate is how the band persevered with their vision of positivity over decades of social and industry circumstances that completely changed the conditions in which such music could be listened to, let alone created. History will be kind Yes, if not contemporary critics.

I don't believe that Yes were deliberately trying to sound like 70s music, on KTA material.
When you think, in terms of the line up of Jon Steve Chris Rick and Alan, it's the first time that they had played together in 16 years and I think Keys was a natural progression of that format of musicians.
I didn't like the way that Keys was first released, but when you hear it all together on the Keys studio Album, it works really well and to me it Yes in their true spirit.
