The pinnacle of Yes music for me, with every element of the band just killing it. Love how Squire drives the song, as when he kicks it up an octave just before the final guitar solo. The Ah Ah Ah vocals may seem simple in theory, but genius in how much they add to the composition. Howe's playing is the absolute best of that era, bar none. Chet Atkins influence is in every note Howe plays. The melodic soloing, perfect tone, phrasing, just everything in one package. Yes gave Howe the opportunity to unleash his musical abilities on the world of music and all that pent up talent and inspiration leveled everything in sight. I first heard Yes when I tuned in to a station during the Wurm section of Starship Trooper, and just that 3 or 4 minute section, ending with Howe's dueling solos into the fadeout, blew me away. I'd never heard guitar, bass and drums played that way before.
i was 12 and 1/2 when i remained lightnened by this album and by Yes, and of course by Genesis, among few others i was trying to discover at that time, in late 1983, the year of 90125, so a little diaspora between present and the past. i loved at same level Yes as a method of creativity, production and ensamble. so yes i understand very well what you mean
I can totally relate. I do not understand how such great music can go relatively unnoticed and under appreciated, this is such incredible soul music, The lyrics to Perpetual Change are so revealing and meaningful, people do not seem to notice such outstanding music and the musicians who made it, Truly timeless and priceless
This when I noticed Steve How's, he is a guitarist of all guitarist. I can only base this on his life time of work & on Sound Chaser I was blown away. God Bless Yes... thank you for 50 years of rocks most classical music for all times.
This is so good! The lyrics, the heart felt vison behind the song. The band are so so talented. I really love this! So misunderstood though, I so love this. One of the best Yes songs
At this particular time in musical exploration the heavens opened and sent to Mother Earth this alchemy known as Yes to provide for those willing to hear delights of another world we shall never know. PERPETUAL CHANGE the only certainty in this world.
@Louise X the same for peter gabriel.... but for a lot of bands from the 70th.... i think the same for roland orzabal of tears for fears from the 80th with his Beatles way to conceive spiritual
The song and the year that YES changed my world! Many other great artist made their impact on me prior but this fusion of sounds, consciousness and artistry made a truly major impression on all my senses in a deep transformational way.
I have a physical need to hear it every month or two. There's a few others, like Cinema Show, from the Genesis live album Seconds Out, that affect me the same way.
Started listening to yes in 72, hardcore devotee ever sinse. I shall dearly miss the only constant in the band, godspeed mr squire and thank you for a lifetime of inspiring music, all of yes
Interviews with Bruford often have him saying "In YES we always talked about exactly what we all were going to play" and thngs like "It was very tedious and asiduous" But I think all that work paid off, the music is so clean and precise. I'm a drummer and I'm the biggest Bruford fan but solo fills on the studio records Bill would totally leave out w/ King Crimson, like he didn't take time to memorize his own work.
I think it was because he was asked not to play the same way that he played in Yes. Fripp was pretty insistent on making sure the style suited King Crimson.
Been playing this track over and over a lot lately... It is YES at their very best by a mile.. Lyrics....Bruford....Kaye...Anderson.....and the man SQUIRE RIP....this is the real YES....and yes HOWE was a genius, but do not forget TONY BANKS....great man......Saying we have the moon, so now the stars................... "Now Voyager, why ask for the moon when we have the stars." I finally found out where that lovely line comes from. The last line from the movie, 'Now Voyager'. Jon is the best.
I remember my buddy playing this back in 1990 in his car as we would road trip on back roads being stupid drinking and driving..at night..thank god. We both survived..i remember this song for some reason as we went around a corner and up on two weels ..freaked us both out so bad we called it a night..ahhh the young and dumb days
Love when Squire goes up an octave just before the final guitar solo and kicks the song into overdrive before the fadeout. Those Ah Ah Ah vocals are heavenly, though impossible to record live. Oxford had to splice a ten second loop that he played during the last few minutes. Wakeman replicated it on mellotron live.
Not correct. Peter Banks, who passed away in the spring of 2013, was the original Yes guitarist, and played on the 2nd Album (Time and a Word). Steve is on the cover of the U.S. version of the album because when it was released in the U.S., Peter Banks had already departed.
Still my favorite Yes song. Chris Squire's contributions to the early Yes albums was significant. The Yes Album is as much a product of Squire as it was Anderson's. Overall, I prefer it to the more ponderous and overblown music produced by Anderson and Howe on later albums.
aagh sorry...never write comments when out drinking..Yes i meant Tony Kaye...Pete Banks..aagh xx See Anderson Rabin Wakeman are back.looking good..must say
Yeh but that the Jazz mentality he has which is great but YES were about creating precise music in the Classical sense > I love all his work especially with YES.!!!!
Mr Larouche I am falling in love with you Sir Perpatua Roman Empire Russia gave us Gerogia President Lincoln was really a biracial bisexual Lincoln as in the bible Abraham-Jeusu Christ- JC-penny the power of the penny Ben franklin a penny save is a penny earn Larouche sir you are a incredible human being
in less than a minute can we appreciate the absolute level of musianship....

Listening to this 50 years after released. Where did the time go? Time is the thief of all thieves. See you in 50 years.
Rest in Peace Chris Squire You are missed and You will always be remembered
Amen to that
Brought the bass guitar to center stage .
There ever was... only One: Chris Squire on Bass.
He was and will be best! "The Fish"
FFS It's been fifty years since this beauty emerged!
I’m eleven and I think this is the best music to date
i was 12 and 1/2 when i remained lightnened by this album and by Yes, and of course by Genesis, among few others i was trying to discover at that time, in late 1983, the year of 90125, so a little diaspora between present and the past. i loved at same level Yes as a method of creativity, production and ensamble. so yes i understand very well what you mean
I was 10 years old when this came out in 1971, and I fell in love with YES. Been digging them for 50-years!
You know great music then..young man
I was eleven when this album came out in '71. "Iv'e Seen All Good People" was on the radio all the time, but I didn't hear this one until years later.
Periodically, I keep coming back, to Yes.
This when I noticed Steve How's, he is a guitarist of all guitarist. I can only base this on his life time of work & on Sound Chaser I was blown away. God Bless Yes... thank you for 50 years of rocks most classical music for all times.
Truly greatful for their wonderful music;
Perpetual Change, particularly is memorable along with many others.
Thank you so much YES.
YAHWEH EL ELOHIM made the music, not "mother" Earth, +sebtonz1.
@Louise X the same for peter gabriel.... but for a lot of bands from the 70th.... i think the same for roland orzabal of tears for fears from the 80th with his Beatles way to conceive spiritual
the wonderful ending of an infinite conversation i am having with this band through my entire life, with love, brotherhood, my kind of spice of life
The song and the year that YES changed my world! Many other great artist made their impact on me prior but this fusion of sounds, consciousness and artistry made a truly major impression on all my senses in a deep transformational way.
Steve Howe one of the greatest guitarists Ever
I love this song.
I have a physical need to hear it every month or two. There's a few others, like Cinema Show, from the Genesis live album Seconds Out, that affect me the same way.

Thanks YES I wish I could’ve grown up with your music in the 70s but growing up with it now works out too

tony banks ❤️
"Now Voyager, why ask for the moon when we have the stars."
I finally found out where that lovely line comes from.
The last line from the movie, 'Now Voyager'.
Jon is the best.
Peter Banks guys.....RIP
Tony Kaye, not Tony Banks. Tony Banks is Genesis. The original guitarist for Yes was Peter Banks, so it is all vry confusing.
MrGonzorhea banks are always confusing 😃
a psychotropic masterpiece of perpetual pleasure....
One of THE best songs EVER !!!!!!!!!!
Linda M
A Masterpiece :)
Such a delicious tune.. just saw ARW perform this live, Jon's voice is as epic as ever : ))
Squire was such a force both vocally and instrumentally. His solo album fish out of water should be on your list...
I bought FISH OUT OF WATER as soon as it was released in 1975, my freshman high school year...
I just want to say you make great videos of one of the greatest groups I've heard. Thanks.
The forgotten classic off the 3rd album
Very crisp and clear version. Nice
Fuckin light one up, lean back, take an introspective view, and fuckin sail through this so called life
If you have to light one up in order to listen to music, then you are a real sad case for the human race, +realsman13.
Sounds like someone needs to light one up, lean back and take an introspective view
spark it up my musical bro!!! much love to you and pax humana too
So, ‘the sun can warm the coldest dawn, and move the movement on the lawn.’ Is ‘the movement on the lawn sundial? Great song.
My first head trip. 1971.
Your videos capture the spirit of this music perfectly. Thank you so much for your efforts...
The greatest video maker yet, no more said....
YES is my religion!

Masterfully done
COOL VIDEO! I love YES.
The soundtrack if my dreams
Great Stuff! Love that song
this is wonderful
Perpetual change
music spirit genius
Awesome video!
Doesn't that intro make you think some "Breaking News" is about to come on?
Awesome!
Thanks you.
There needs to be change, but history repeats itself, because people are boring and history has nothing better to do, but repeat

John Coviello , I haven't read the story, do you mean to tell us Steve Howe is not the one playing the guitar on this track?.

Deep inside takes control of you and me...🤔
As truth is gathered, I rearrange
aagh sorry...never write comments when out drinking..Yes i meant Tony Kaye...Pete Banks..aagh xx See Anderson Rabin Wakeman are back.looking good..must say

A time and a place
Remember Jehovah God I am only a gresshopper studpid in nature in JC name
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS SONG IS ABOUT?? read the lyrics...
I prefer the faster tempo live version.
What's theme signature at around the 5:21 mark, anyone know?
and there you are.... perfect form.... 2:12...
Are those lyrics right?
No, they messed up a few lines.
Greek translation of universe .
At this time it was usually Steve Howe or Jimmy Page for guitarist of the year......until EVH came along😛🎸
EVH not even in the top 10 of best guitarists ever
ehm... who is him or it ?
Mr Larouche I am falling in love with you Sir Perpatua Roman Empire Russia gave us Gerogia President Lincoln was really a biracial bisexual Lincoln as in the bible Abraham-Jeusu Christ- JC-penny the power of the penny Ben franklin a penny save is a penny earn Larouche sir you are a incredible human being
Faulty lyric alert!
vzq's a bit of a juice freak.
It's not hard...
