- Es war ein umjubelter Klangvokal-Auftakt in 2022: Ob berückende Romanzen, furiose Solo-Arien-Raserei oder prickelnd-brillante Duettkunst - diese italienische Operngala am 20. Februar 2022 war ein rauschendes Fest voller klingender Leidenschaften. Und in all den handverlesenen Vokalperlengaben sich zwei gefeierte Gesangsstars die Ehre: die US-amerikanische Sopranistin Nadine Sierra und der spanische Tenor Xabier Anduaga. Hier ein Duett-Ausschnitt aus Verdis "Rigoletto". Es spielt die Neue Philharmonie Westfalen unter dem italienischen Maestro Lorenzo Passerini.
It was an acclaimed Klangvokal prelude to 2022: whether intoxicating romances, furious solo aria frenzy or tinglingly brilliant duet art - this Italian Opera gala on February 20, 2022 was a lavish celebration full of sonorous passions. And in all the handpicked vocal gems, two celebrated singing stars did the honors: U.S. soprano Nadine Sierra and Spanish tenor Xabier Anduaga. Here is a duet excerpt from Verdi's "Rigoletto". The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Westphalia plays under Italian maestro Lorenzo Passerini.

I watched that one and it was worth the money for their debut on the roles of Elvino and Amina.
Someone said Xavier may have skipped a couple of D6 when singing Elvino, as if he were cheating, but I don't watch operas with their score in front to check they hit every note, so I don't care if a couple of notes are skipped as long as the full role is consistant and they look at ease singing, and they did.

Praised for her vocal beauty, seamless technique, and abundant musicality, Nadine Sierra is being hailed as one of the most promising, young talents in opera today. She was named the Richard Tucker Award Winner in 2017 and was awarded the 2018 Beverly Sills Artist Award by the Metropolitan Opera. Having made a string of successful debuts at the Met, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra national de Paris, and Staatsoper Berlin, she has become a fixture at many of the top houses around the world. On August 24th, 2018, her debut album, There’s a Place for Us, was released under the Deutsche Grammophon/Universal Music labels.
She is 34 and has been singing (as you write) on all big stages around the world. Hardly a "promising young talent" but an artist in the middle of a great career.

If a take a step back from the opera's actual plot (though one never knows what the singers agreed to convey since no stage director i guess), I find nothing to say other than "Exquisite!", including & how not, vocally. How beautiful & utterly touching.
Keep in mind that this love duet is indeed a set up where the Duke of Mantua (Xavier Anduaga) is purposedly deceiving Gilda (Nadine Sierra), making her think he's just some poor scholar who is totally in love with her and they are supposedly getting to know each other. Still, I feel Xavier is acting way too cold for what he can deliver in a staged production and should have grabbed Nadine somehow to act out, since I know Nadine likes to act out the character even in concerts.
