I want another unreal game. not like 2 that was shit. the 1st unreal was heaven when I 1st played it and the music was epic
I'm an Unreal fan so ... The thing is and I would like to say the bad thing is that when Half life came out, the FPS genre, became less about gameplay and more about narrative, scripts and nothing else. Halo and Call of duty just went the extra mile by removing most of the interactivity that lasted. I miss for example those random utility items we could get and the varied armors we could have in certain games. I miss also the very random interactivity we could get. Some recent games brought some of that though, and I will be truly glad if great interactivity comes back as a new standard rather than puttin millons in cutscenes ...
Blood 1 is still one of my all time favorite games with some of my fondest gaming memories. Blood 2 was the first time I realized that some things are better left undead.
Loved the Blood games as a kid. The humor and references were so awesome. Caleb is such a good anti-hero. But Blood 2 was so buggy that I couldn't get through it.
I loved this game, and you're right, I haven't played a game which has had the same feel since the 90's shooters. I also agree with some of the later enemies being bullet sponges. It got to a point where I'd run past certain areas, only because I didn't wanna waste ammo. I feel like revisiting this game.
First full 3D fps was awful sometimes, like this one who was really ugly, squared characters/monsters, like cube... It's why I prefer when it used 2D sprites, it was more rounded and detailled. BLOOD 2 is very generic too, the first BLOOD has an unique atmosphere and a real identity but BLOOD 2 reminds me just a dark/bloody version of half life and the cultists reminds more the guy of goldeneye', this game is such a off topic too.... 100 years later, seeing Caleb with a futurist snipe on a futurist airship, was a heresy.... I played 1/3 of BLOOD 2 but the gameplay is boring, it has nothing original. It seems they wanted make something like some others popular fps of the past but BLOOD 1 is 100x better and seriously, im happy to see they have not made squared/cubic version of gargoyles and others monsters of BLOOD 1, at least now, we can forget BLOOD 2... If people want play it, its good for them, but i was too bored to continue it. BLOOD 1 is an Art with a lot of original and deep stuff and the gameplay of BLOOD 1 can be very tactic and need a lot of skill (one of hardest FPS). Also, the OST of BLOOD 1 is awesome but in BLOOD 2, i noticed nothing special... Again BLOOD 1 is a wonderful and unique fps, well made, with a real level design and stuff, but BLOOD 2 is a generic off topic, boring.
yep, doing 3D properly demanded both more performance on hardware side to use higher resolution textures and higher polygons in models, and also talented 3D artists which took time to emerge in first place since there wasn't much to practice on before.
Agreed, Blood 2 has none of the atmosphere or things that made Blood unique. The text in one of the Blood 2 loading screen's refers to a "valve's onerous half life" which reminds you that developers around this time saw that there was something new being brought to FPS games --- but not necessarily by them -- that they didn't know how to respond to.
@F.u.c.k Go.ogl.e thank Atari ?! No thanks. You shoud replaced that word, "thank" to "blame", because they fucked up Blood 2, so they should be blamed for that. Since then, I lost a respect to them after I found out about that case as how I lost a respect to EA nowadays
@Emmanuel EXE to be honest this game has a huge potential to be great as Half Life if they took some time to developed it and pushed the graphic engine a little bit. This game were bad because it's been rushed, a lot of content got cut just because they want to release it quickly to compete with Half Life 1. Well, I did know this is not a good idea and attitude for them. I must to say, they should care about developement time for make this game good and release it in a good condition no matter what year they target for and never care about to compete the other game. Devs must to think to make good game and fun to play then it would be great by their own worked as well as they delivered to their consumer
If you want a new game with that dark urban tone of the late-90s shooters, The Darkness is about as good as it gets. It's an amazing game with a great story, and though the gunfights can feel a bit repetitive from time to time, once you get all the special powers (black hole FTW), you feel like the god of war and mayhem.
i remember downloading the demo for this on dial up back in the day... it was 30mb and that was probably the biggest file i'd downloaded yet, it took something like 2-3 hours to download. I can't say i was totally devastated with the game, as any free game back then, even a demo was ''totallyawesome''... but i do remember a certain disappointment and confusion as to how this was supposed to be the sequel to Blood. A game that completely enthralled me as a young adolescent.
it's my opinion that the Chosen (Ishmial, Ophelia and Gabrielle) looked different from the cutscene in part 1 to part 2 is that they were all killed and mutilated, Ophelia and Gabreielle's corpses were even set on fire, so it's my opinion that they came back on the sequel looking different is that they were given new bodies, their souls possessed new bodies and took over them and thats why Gabrielle came back as a woman as he posessed a chick, and as for the flash backs in the nightmare levels of them looking like their new forms, well that's simply because it wasn't a flash back and they were literally teleported there.
Regarding the cinematics part: I agree After the cathedral boss the Gabriella cinematic played. She apparently exploded along with the wall she was behind.

I played Blood 2 a lot. Didn't even know they had an expansion till much later though. I love the game overall but my biggest complaint was at the levels with the labs and the leech creatures, it would often freeze up completely there for seemingly no reason, never saw that anywhere else. Solid game overall, even with that damn train being repeated a few times.
+Endymion I got my first new PC at just the right time.It may have been a pathetic $399 eMachines eTower 300K (AMD K6-2 @ 200 Mhz roughly equivalent to a Pentium II @ 266 Mhz) in March 1999 but all it took was a $99 3Dfx Voodoo 3 2000 PCI graphics card upgrade and I could game this title well.
I recall Blood 2 being decent - certainly undeserving of the many complaints I've seen leveled at it. At the very least, it can be praised for variety. From decrepit back alleys to gleaming labs - there was an overabundance of arenas for your shoot outs. (A lack of direction in retrospect, but fun while playing),Even with nine slots you would have to leave some weapons behind. At worst I'd just dismiss it as a bit average.
Actually, there's one thing that at least one of the other cabal members can do that Caleb can't; Control the Orb to guide it while in flight. This is great for clearing the path ahead without exposing yourself to the enemy fire. The Orb isn't very powerful, but being a magical weapon, it can be used an infinite amount of times. Unfortunately Caleb can only fire it in a straight line and it will home in on nearby enemies. Also, I found the final boss in the Nightmare Levels to be unbeatable until I discovered a trick. Stop reading here if you don't want to know what it is. I fired every heavy weapon I had at it until I ran out of ammo and barely managed to get it down to 50% health. From a distance, it fires homing shots that will quickly kill you. Then I discovered that if you have full health, you can just crouch, let it get on top of you and blast away with the shotguns. It hardly does any damage to you and the shotguns do a ton of damage to it. From unbeatable to a pushover...
So I recently finished Blood which I got on GoG together with MDK and Risa of the Triad which I don't regret buying fullprice. But this looks like a great game to pick up on sale. But seriously we need a Blood remake :D
I loved Blood and had my computer upgraded to a DX100 with 16mb ram just to run it and loved it immensely. When Blood 2 came out I was really hoping it would be a follow on. But I hated it, hated it with a passion. Lots of who-cares cut scenes. A story I could not really give a stuff about and the graphics although 1000 times better just lost that lovely charm of the first one. Plus I loved the haunted hotels, graveyards and all that of the first.
I remember ripping the sound files to .wav. There were extensive voice lines for also the other chosen. My favorite that stuck was a voice emergency message when you enter a facility. "Please be advised, we have an intruder on level 4. He is armed and extremely dangerous. Do not approach to man in any circumstances, in fact, run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. Thank you and have a nice day"
call me crazy but The Room by Tommy Wiseau always kinda made me feel like it took place in the Blood 2 universe.. something about the way the characters talk and act always reminded me of Blood 2 NPCs..
Why don't anyone put that part where the game starts and "hey, what the heck do you think you are doing" " hey, don't you have anything better to do" or is this not the right game?
I remember getting 2 cds from school. One was Heroes of might and magic 3 and the second Blood 2 The chosen. Those little spiders were so creepy. And some aliens jumping on face.
Enjoyed the review. I actually picked it up from GOG. Played it throughout... Pretty much the only scary game I can still play. It still makes me jump off my seat. Yeah, about the difficulty, I totally agree. Never got to finish the game as a child. Relished the opportunity to do so after. Plus, found out a lot of hidden item. Needless to say, I still love the game.
Update: I got this from the gog blood series forum and it worked for me. Try it and see. Credit to original posters. "Here is something you can try, it reduced crashing for me by a lot. Rarely does it now. If you have more than one core, create a batch file in the game folder with the commands @echo off cd "\Blood II" start /affinity 1 BLOOD2.exe exit You can now create a shortcut to the desktop with the batch file. This forces it to run with one core. Next, change the compatability settings for Blood2.exe, Client.exe and Blood2Sv.exe to the following: Windows XP (Service Pack 2) Disable visual themes Run as administrator (if you have UAC enabled) After that, launch Blood2, and click on the advanced button. Uncheck every option, then click display, and try running the game at your native resolution. If it fails to work try 640x480 or 800x600."
During their developement and announcement of this game, it has been promising to be great and we also thought that this game would join one of the great FPS at the time but then when it released, they really dissapointed us and I find out the behind of the failure of this game were due to being rushed and a lot of content got cut. What a horrible mistake they did
i always liked blood 1 the best. Those early 3d graphics are just awful to look at now compared to sprites and there were such small amounts of enemies at once because of the much higher demand for 3d
I know, but maybe it was just a forewarning of what was to come? DLC endings and 30 minute expansions? That is quite bad either way haha good review though, just found your channel and I'm enjoying what I've found so far.
Monolith just spread too thin, dividing themselves into two team to develop Shogo: MAD and Blood 2 at once. Shogo Lead Designer, Craig Hubbard pretty much stated, that Shogo was a prototype of what the game was really going to look like. Storyline ended a bit abruptly, lots of content cut off to make for a release date, two expansions cancelled. It was a warning to not get carried away with ambitions. Extra few months in development could make wonders for both games, but they found themselves in really rough spot. Between Unreal and Half-Life 1? Very unlucky, they couldn't release it faster and releasing it later would probably be pointless, at least looking from sales perspective. Might be wrong, a well polished game should defend itself on it's own, no matter the competition but I'm really not sure.
I often think B2 would have been served better by the NOLF engine(V2.0) since first gen LithTech was pretty rough around the edges. It moves so much like Shogo in controls. :\
Can you tell me how to beat those face hugger looking things? I've been searching the net for some way to kill them but I just can't seem to find the answer.
I remember playing this and being disappointed at how generic a lot of the weapons felt in this game, not to mention plain unbalanced. I also wasn't fond of how they changed the dual-wield mechanic from being a powerup, to be something you could do all the time, because dual-wielding quickly stopped feeling special.
Do you like blood 2 more than blood ? I personally like Blood more, level design, challenges, enemies and that graphic has aged better in my opinion :)
Its pretty fun actually! Like everything that Monolith put out in the late 90s. Check out Shogo: Mobil Armour Division, No One Lives Forever, and Captain Claw also. You're welcome :)
Olvi Langstrumpf Dude thanks for mentioning Captain Claw I googled it. I was searching it for a while but now I fond it by reading your post. P.S do anybody remembers a game where you control a green Imp or Troll and you are digging under earth for treasures and bagpipes played in the menu.
Sadly no, the game I was playing was much simple looking play it around 2006 on a old window 95 PC.( the game might be from early 90) But thanks again for quick responding you helped me finding another lost classic :D
PawnForYourKing. I sent you a friend request awhile back cuz I'm RevengeVirus from the good ol SPF days. I saw your PSN ID on your PayBack 2 vid and about shit a brick cuz I was just thinking to myself how you and I (And sometimes UrmainDude) would talk about the game you'd reviewed.
Gggmanlives i want to say this. you are probably one of the most down to earth people that review games and i love your content usually i check your channel always for a new review on an old icon that i never played.
Monolith Productions aren't likely to do that, unless they see any benefits or reason to continue it... at least, at this point. Atari sure as hell aren't going to do much of anything with it rn
@@mrllamaton1873 Yes! But how much would it cost? I don't know how much money Atari makes today, and one'd have to ask them how much they want in exchange for parting with the distribution rights.
long story short, Blood 2 was one of the unfortunate victims of shitty 3D shooters era. Devs just couldn't figure out how to make it look good (or do animations properly), with rare exceptions like Half-Life. So in the end original Blood with 2D sprites looked much better and was more fun.
idk, game looks pretty good for 1998 and technically has most things like colored lighting, dynamic stuff, bloodsprays etc. it doesnt have skeletal animations, but many games didnt at that time.
I recently bought this game on gog and enjoyed it for a while. When i got to that dumb boss in that small church i was so fed up with the game that i didnt bother continuing. The expansion pack was an alright way to waste a hour or two after that. The unskippable intro sure was annoying though.
I played the demo when it came out and was not impressed. Blood was and still is one of my favourite games but this just did not feel right. Lacked polish. The transition to 3D was unsatisfying to me. I would say Jedi Knight 2 was the first 3d game that looked and felt really good in my taste. That smoothness and charm from the first Blood im still waiting for in a modern game thou.
I loved Blood 2 but i must admit it's only because of nostalgia as it was one of the first games i ever played when i got my first pc. It is inferior to Blood 1 in every way. The thing that makes me angry is that with some time it could've been great. It was the publisher rushing it's development that ruined it.
Yeah this review is a bit understating Check out Civvie11's full breakdown of this monstrosity. And play Death Wish 1.5 (just got an update and is fantastic).
I picked it up recently on Steam. Besides the numerous crashes I cannot recommend this one. While in the first edition you had pretty balanced weaponry, in this edition your weapons are mostly too weak. Even the most basic enemies take lots of bullets. Every shot of them hits you. The levels become dull over time and the end bosses are way too strong. Monolith made a classic with Blood 1; this followup is far from that.
I got this game on GOG and when I tried to play it it ran at 15 FPS is there a way I can fix this? Edit: I also had an issue were when on the launcher I tried to go to display it said tat directx 6 wasn't installed
DirectDraw and alot of the old graphics assets are not supported by Windows 8. There is no viable fix AFAIK but people are working on it. The best one I could think is to install Linux, install WINE, then install the game and use WINE to play it. Retro gamers get pretty fucked by Microsoft with every new Windows. If you are using Windows 7 I could help you :D.
There are some ways I also play retro games from gog. Disable shadows, disable fog, props, blood, run as admin or in xp or win 8 compatibility mode. Haven't buy blood yet, but it worked on alied assault, kingpin and some other gog releases. There is no point to decrease the resolution but that good at least.
you can try installing nGlider which might help playing the game (there's no specific setup involved, google it - download it and that's it) ;) I guess nGlider is a way of "faking" an old graphic card on newer Windows releases...
Hi dude its me again, I purchased Blood 2 a few days ago. I had the same problem the frame drops when to much stuff happens on the screen. Try this: Open file location rename the Blood.exe to lithtech in options run always as admin and disable display scaling. 2. Open the shortcut on advanced options disable; Light mapping Model full bright Directx6 commands Joystick.
Blood 2 Deathwish that supposed to be a true sequel instead of this crap........ I guess Monolith cut this stuff at the time until they bring back this mod...........

But seriously we need a Blood remake :D
one of the fav game of my childhood.
If there was a proper HD mod then I would pick this up! There is a mod that improves the effects and gameplay slightly.
Extra crispy helps the balancing
I loved Blood and had my computer upgraded to a DX100 with 16mb ram just to run it and loved it immensely. When Blood 2 came out I was really hoping it would be a follow on. But I hated it, hated it with a passion. Lots of who-cares cut scenes. A story I could not really give a stuff about and the graphics although 1000 times better just lost that lovely charm of the first one. Plus I loved the haunted hotels, graveyards and all that of the first.
Most of your complaints can also be applied to the first game though.
Another great review bud, loving your content on youtube. Keep it up.
What a neat The Thing/Shining reference
If you have more than one core, create a batch file in the game folder with the commands
@echo off
cd "\Blood II"
start /affinity 1 BLOOD2.exe
exit
You can now create a shortcut to the desktop with the batch file. This forces it to run with one core.
Next, change the compatability settings for Blood2.exe, Client.exe and Blood2Sv.exe to the following:
Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
Disable visual themes
Run as administrator (if you have UAC enabled)
After that, launch Blood2, and click on the advanced button. Uncheck every option, then click display, and try running the game at your native resolution. If it fails to work try 640x480 or 800x600."
Back in the days I thought Blood 2 wasn't that bad
During their developement and announcement of this game, it has been promising to be great and we also thought that this game would join one of the great FPS at the time but then when it released, they really dissapointed us and I find out the behind of the failure of this game were due to being rushed and a lot of content got cut. What a horrible mistake they did
thanks a lot!
These graphics were incredible at the time this game was released.
i always liked blood 1 the best. Those early 3d graphics are just awful to look at now compared to sprites and there were such small amounts of enemies at once because of the much higher demand for 3d
This game just need a lot of time when they made it. Look at Half Life, this is the game that has great execution for the full 3D fps game
@@ytanonymity3585 True.
They should've stuck with the build engine
this is actually my second favorite game despite the flaws.
Thank you very much.
Blood 3D was so good, that I bought it on Steam and I play it every once in a while. But Blood 2 was pretty much a Shogo in some old clothes.
Hey, do you have any idea how to install a GDX nor NBlood for Blood on Steam ?
@@aaadj2744 I assume it does not run on Win 10?
I just realised that darkwatch took a lot of inspiration from blood
Yup. Character look same. Not only Darkwatch but Van Helsing too
Darkwatch is what the new Blood game with mind blowing graphic I wish to be
Is that Sasori on the thumbnail?
*Yes I know thats not a Naruto character.*
Igi,blood 2 were my favourite games in my childhood.
I liked the creapy dark atmosphere.. it was awesome!
I had so much fun with this game!!!
But its fucking raw
This games looks fookin raw
Is it just me or does Gideon in the video's intro, sound kind of like he's voiced by Frank Welker?
I remember playing this and being disappointed at how generic a lot of the weapons felt in this game, not to mention plain unbalanced. I also wasn't fond of how they changed the dual-wield mechanic from being a powerup, to be something you could do all the time, because dual-wielding quickly stopped feeling special.
aww so much nostalgia when he started talkin
Do you like blood 2 more than blood ? I personally like Blood more, level design, challenges, enemies and that graphic has aged better in my opinion :)
Never heard of this game, but it doesn't look too bad!
P.S do anybody remembers a game where you control a green Imp or Troll and you are digging under earth for treasures and bagpipes played in the menu.
videolookertube hmm... dungeon keeper? Only one that comes to mind. If the 2000's, then Dungeons?
Sadly no, the game I was playing was much simple looking play it around 2006 on a old window 95 PC.( the game might be from early 90) But thanks again for quick responding you helped me finding another lost classic :D
Its good ....get it on steam
You should do Kingpin and Undying, two of my favorite shooters.
I've done both...
Gggmanlives cool! So I shall watch them!
How you gonna not accept my PS3 friend requests after all the time we spent talking about this game on TheForum? Breakin my heart.
Say what?
PawnForYourKing. I sent you a friend request awhile back cuz I'm RevengeVirus from the good ol SPF days. I saw your PSN ID on your PayBack 2 vid and about shit a brick cuz I was just thinking to myself how you and I (And sometimes UrmainDude) would talk about the game you'd reviewed.
Evan Coburn
Oh I remember you! I don't ever really use my PS3 anymore dude, probably why I didn't see the friend request.
Gggmanlives i want to say this. you are probably one of the most down to earth people that review games and i love your content usually i check your channel always for a new review on an old icon that i never played.
During the sewers sections, how do you kill the little face hugger things? I swear you can't.
You just shoot them. If they get stuck on your face press E over and over to get them off.
Gggmanlives Ohhh, ok because I was wiggling my mouse and doing everything to get them off. Does the game tell you to press E repeatedly?
pinkfloydfan123
It says it in the manual I think. I never knew it as a kid and would just load an old quicksave.
Gggmanlives Ok, well thanks for helping. I plan on trying to complete the original blood also because I've heard its better.
pinkfloydfan123
It is vastly better.
Blood 2,IGI 1 AND GTA VC WAS MY CHILDHOOD.
This game according to most: NEEDS a remake.
Monolith Productions aren't likely to do that, unless they see any benefits or reason to continue it... at least, at this point. Atari sure as hell aren't going to do much of anything with it rn
@@TheBreakingBenny But if Someone were to buy rights
@@mrllamaton1873 Yes! But how much would it cost? I don't know how much money Atari makes today, and one'd have to ask them how much they want in exchange for parting with the distribution rights.
@@TheBreakingBenny I know no one at Atari cares about blood
@@mrllamaton1873 It would probably explain why Nightdive quickly got bought up after the last patch for _Fresh Supply._
Some of the Cinematics look exactly like Unreal Tournament Arenas
Blood 2 is one of those games you replay once you have forgotten how mediocre it actually was.
long story short, Blood 2 was one of the unfortunate victims of shitty 3D shooters era. Devs just couldn't figure out how to make it look good (or do animations properly), with rare exceptions like Half-Life. So in the end original Blood with 2D sprites looked much better and was more fun.
Yeah, its a poor execution for a full 3D fps standard. Half Life made it through and it is well-executed for 3D fps. Then, it being successful
idk, game looks pretty good for 1998 and technically has most things like colored lighting, dynamic stuff, bloodsprays etc. it doesnt have skeletal animations, but many games didnt at that time.
Thanks for the review. I was going to pick up the game in GoG out of nostalgia.
So this is pretty much near impossible to get running on windows 7 with an Intel graphics card..isnt it lol?
I recently bought this game on gog and enjoyed it for a while. When i got to that dumb boss in that small church i was so fed up with the game that i didnt bother continuing.
The expansion pack was an alright way to waste a hour or two after that. The unskippable intro sure was annoying though.
Great review man thanks
I played the demo when it came out and was not impressed. Blood was and still is one of my favourite games but this just did not feel right. Lacked polish. The transition to 3D was unsatisfying to me. I would say Jedi Knight 2 was the first 3d game that looked and felt really good in my taste. That smoothness and charm from the first Blood im still waiting for in a modern game thou.
2:38 gibbing cardboard boxes? Brutal.
These games need to be released on steam
It is on Steam. But I don't recommend you considering this game is a major dissapointment ...... Get Blood 1 instead
I loved Blood 2 but i must admit it's only because of nostalgia as it was one of the first games i ever played when i got my first pc. It is inferior to Blood 1 in every way. The thing that makes me angry is that with some time it could've been great. It was the publisher rushing it's development that ruined it.
Yeah. Im still mad at GT Interactive because they ruined this game
Looks like the same engine Monolith had utilised when creating "Shogo:MAD".
i liked this game, but i always got really low fps. an nvidia geforce 8600 gt sucks, but not that bad. anyone have any idea why?
Yeah this review is a bit understating
Check out Civvie11's full breakdown of this monstrosity.
And play Death Wish 1.5 (just got an update and is fantastic).
Death wish deserved to be a sequel to the first Blood imo. While The Chosen should be.........maybe Blood 3 and they shouldn't rushed on it
I see you updated the thumbnail
How did the graphics improve this much in just one year?
2. Open the shortcut on advanced options disable;
Light mapping
Model full bright
Directx6 commands
Joystick.
I don't know how to get the game to run at a stable framerate. I would play my copy of Blood 2 but I cant.
Wonder if 3D Realms still had right of Blood...
1 or 2 hours for the DLC? Ha! Have you played most games nowadays!?
Blood 2 Deathwish that supposed to be a true sequel instead of this crap........ I guess Monolith cut this stuff at the time until they bring back this mod...........
his voice sounds rlly cute in this
beautiful and gorgeous game. I'm glad I played it much like Tron 2.0 and riddick
I loved Raptor! Also so many good LucasArts games at that time.
I remember back in the day, tried demo of this, god damn it took my pc to limits :D
This game was wicked. i still have it on cd
Why do the boxes have gibs? I LOVE IT
