A couple of ideas since you have extensively determined it is fuel related issue. Sounds like the bobcat sat for a long time so I would a) change the fuel filter, b) I would agitate the contents of fuel tank then drain / pump out a couple of times to get any sediment/water/old fuel out. Then add some new ethanol free fuel and a can of SeaFoam. Nice job overall and very educational to follow your journey. Just subscribed.
youre gonna love this thing. cheap, repairable and can always do a little more than you think. the only areas it will come up short on compared to a modern machine is its low gpm for hydraulic motor powered attachments and lack of mass for extreme digging or picking up loads heavier than a ton
Nice score on the skid steer. Having been looking at used skid steers to buy, if it runs it's worth $6000. The only suggestion I would make is to install an inline fuel filter if you haven't already done so. No telling how much junk got into the tank at the connection you repaired.
The 7 series bobcat is the step up to the larger skid steer with the 8 & 9 series which are all diesel I believe, But it’s a great idea to check the hydraulic pump pressure just to see if it’s dropped at all, The machine you purchased looks tidy on video, At least when you have the workshop manual you be able to relate to this for information. It’s great to see something a bit different from the older tractors, The early bobcats are easily one of the best skid steers available, We had the 843B fitted with the kubota diesel engine 🇬🇧🇮🇪.
I had 2 of those 642 i removed that fuel shutoff soleniod and i put a electric fuel pump worked fine , the right hand control is for your extras function you remove a bolt at the bottom of the stick and it moves right to left to work the valve . nice machine worth $6000
Right joystick moves side to side to run the aux. will lock to the right for full flow. If it ever cranks slow and will not start. Check that right stick and make sure it’s not locked. Center pedal is for the brake.
I know what you mean about jamming to music and I feel the same way. I started wearing ear pods just so I can listen to music when I’m recording maintenance vids.
I've owned this exact model for around 15 years now, the carburetor issues brought back some terrible memories 😂 I ended up swapping a perkins 4.107 diesel into it because after 5 years I still couldn't get the carb to run right. Aside from that, the 642 is a rock solid machine, and parts are surprisingly easy to find for most things.

Regards to the poor running issue, does the machine have and if so did you change a fuel filter? Given the top of the fuel tank was open before I wonder if some dirt may have got in and could now be making its way through to the jets? If so then perhaps installing an inline filter could help prevent it recurring?
Glad you enjoyed! It does have an inline filter before the carburetor. I think it was a fluke that something made it into the jet after working on it. i think it was good price looks like its a good solid little bobcat . i have a JD 310 i gave 4200 for it I've done a bunch of work to it just to get it where i could run it. still have lots more to do to it . i felt sorry for you when you cut that tilt cylinder rod end . i hate it when i make mistakes like that you just have to fix it and go on nothing else yo can do. first thing i turn on in my shop is the music i agree with you on that. Digging in hard dirt with roots & stumps you need teeth on that bucket . Thanks Randy
There are a lot of things that go wrong on these. Literally nightmares once they get to a certain point of wear. This one looks decent that’s low hours. Be very careful if you see an axle seal leaking Don’t run it until the axle tube is damaged or the chassis itself will need major service. (New stub welded on)
Breakout force across the wide bucket won’t be impressive. It’s a loader, not an excavator. It’s meant for loose materials and stripping topsoil. My 16hp Takeuchi mini ex has more breakout force than my NH L555 skid steer with 43hp. But the lift capacity is much more. Gave $7000 for the 555 with kubota engine, new tires, and 2200hrs. Just needed lights and a wheel bearing
After running the machine a while, I think it has plenty of pressure. You're right about the breakout force. It seems to lift everything it should. If it lifted any more it would get awful tippy.

Afternoon, I must say this UNIT ( Checked ) * M A N Y * of the boxes for what is some of the Common things ( OTHERS ) Mess with. From Fuel and exhaust to Jets, Vacuum leaks, Broken / Stripped bolts. etc. ONE Observation that seems to be ( MORE or LESS ) OVER-Looked when buying NEW or USED. What did the other place - person do ? From set up to Maintenance along with Jerry Rigging to keep it running, etc. Some years ago ( BOTH ) Worked with and also Along side some Veterans of the trades who seemed to have way more then a Single Trick up their sleeves. That Brake Cleaner deal is one YOU can never ever have enough on hand when trying to find a multiple of problems. A side bar here with a quick story for YOU and those reading along. My Ex-Neighbors Buddies -FRIEND who was looking for some equipment asked if ( ANYONE ) Knew of someone who could do a ONCE over * BEFORE * he bought some stuff ? A few different names got thrown into the mix. YET / Butt Most kept saying the ( BEST Bang for the Buck ) was this Ole Timer who basically was still just fiddling around with stuff to keep him busy these days. He Said for a Reasonable amount of CASH ONLY Along with a Good Meal, and some Other s[ecific items needed WOULD ALL to be part of any deal he would consider . They had to pay for ( UP FRONT ) Certain, Fluids, Items, Extras, * HE * said was a Constant when doing suck stuff. All toll those items came to under two hundred bucks. His time or RATE would be determined by what there was ELSE happening. Nothing outrageous. Quite Tame compared to most peoples {{{ Guess - Ti - Mates }}} out there. Here is a PHRASE / Saying Way to often gets ignored - S A D L Y ... " In the END - It ALL Goes Back to the B E G I N N I N G " Engines are Air Pumps. They Need Fuel, Spark, Oxygen ( AIR ) Exhaust, {Proper timing ) and a Steady Flow of a Good mixer to keep it running smoothly. That little Anti - Deisel Solenoid is one that gets taken for granted. Like the PVC Part onto top of what goes into the valve covers on older vehicles. Clogged - missing, a Host of other issues, etc. Cracked or broken Vacuum lines. FILTERS of Any and all kinds. Wrong types of fluid. Like running Deisel in a Gas Engine of VICE VERSA ( SEEN It ) Directly more times then I care to put here. The Ole timer had a Stethoscope he often used to hear if bearings and other internals were overly noisy , etc. A Few Home made Gadgets that he would bring along to help speed up the process. On that day which turned into a two day and night HOLY HELL Can of Worms going on just to see (IF) it was worth BUYING and or Fixing. Way to many Fly by Night Mechanics out there. Parts changers ( REALLY ) Cannons of Items often not even close to being needed. Wrong this / In-Correct Size for that. Patch it all together restricting Air flow and exhaust with kinked off lines and deleted adjusters, etc. The GUY had to both INVEST and (Di-Vest) With the Owner / Seller during this whole process. Seems Second hand was more like. Everybody ELSE tried and made it a Frankenstein with many WRONG or Deleted items already. Good thing this ( Ole Timer ) had some patients to figure it all or most of it out before TRUE Cash traded hands. His cut was about 300 bucks plus plus plus. Meaning just under a grand. PLUS more extras also thrown in. At one point the SCRAP Yard was being Discussed as a Fail Safe to each involved. PRICES Like VALUE or Deals are NOT all created equal. Would YOU or anyone else been better off? That depends how *YOUR* Own math is calculated. Time, PARTS, Service. etc. At 100 bucks an hour. Call it two 8 hour days give or take. It would have been an easy couple of Grand still not knowing if it was a SCAM ? I am NOT you. Nor was I buying or selling either of the units in question here. Human Beings are said to be. * CREATURES of Habit * Turn up the choke. Delete the parking brake. Fiddle around with the screws (IGNORE) the ROOT of the Problem. Can YOU keep using it until the budget saves up enough for a new purchase ? My Advice. THINK Before Acting - ALWAYS. Is it a NEED, Want, or Something YOU desire at the spur of any given moment ? My Gut has steered me away from more then a few Fairytale Nightmares. Like Lipstick on a Pig. Rattle Can - Overhauls. (Or Best Offer) being the Curse of Death for one and all. A Screamer of a Deal ( RARELY ) Ever come close when the MISSED of Un-Disclosed problems come full circle with only a little bit of lube along with missing nuts, bolts, washers, and such... The VOICE of REASON Has Spoken Have a Better day

I gat a 642 my sellf and fell in love with it but it has the ford 2.3 gas in it and the governor gust let go on mine so will have to fix that but o well
I can put that on the future video list. It's the factory driveline yet, 6.2, th400, 4.56 gears. It does pretty good under 60mph. It will run 65-70 but it's not real happy. I've scaled over 20k gross several times. You can't be in a hurry at that kind of weight. The 0-60 time is measured in minutes.
@@Randys_Relics - See James Condon video's. I've seen home replace these on Generators he repairs. Some of these small engines use these on the bottom of the Carbs. he works on as shutoff valves. I have also seen: South Main Auto replace these on some cars. Hope some of this helps.

Put a couple inline filters to stop trash from getting through, better to be safe than sorry and even a water separator! Just a suggestion, Randy!

It was some generic sound deadening insulation I had left over. I think I originally got it from McMaster-Carr.

Did you put a fuel filter on ? And use non ethanol high test gas .
It does have an inline fuel filter on it already. I will be keeping an eye on it and changing it out if need be.

I do plan to replace it if I can find one. They are NLA from Bobcat, and eBay does not show any.
