No keys and no help in sight? Here's how to get your car moving again.
Warning
Hot-wiring a car is dangerous and is likely to damage your vehicle. Never hot-wire anyone's car but yours and be prepared to show your proof of ownership.
Step 1: Try a screwdriver
Pound a flat-head screwdriver into the ignition and turn it like a key. This will ruin the ignition cylinder, but it's effective on many cars manufactured before the mid '90s.
Step 2: Remove the ignition cover
If the car doesn't start, pull the screwdriver out of the ignition and remove the screws in the panels on the top and bottom of the steering column. Next, use the flat-head screwdriver to pry off the plastic panels and expose the ignition cylinder and the wires running to it. Be gentle to minimize damage to the steering column.
Step 3: Identify the battery and starter wires
Identify the battery and starter wires. Generally the two red wires handle the car's power, and the one or two brown wires connect to the starter. Consult your car's manual to learn its specific wire color code.
Step 4: Connect the power wires
Put on the gloves, and use the cutters to cut the power wires from the cylinder. Then, strip the ends and connect them by twisting them together to provide power to the lights, radio, and other electrical systems.
Step 5: Connect the starter wires
Cut the starter wires from the cylinder and strip the ends. Be extremely careful not to touch the exposed ends as they carry a powerful live current and will shock you. Touch them together, and as soon as the car has started, pull them apart and tape the ends to avoid getting shocked while driving.
Tip
If the car has only has one starter wire, touch it to the exposed part of the connected power wires to start the car.
Step 6: Deal with additional security
Deal with additional security. In some cars the steering-wheel lock's bolt can be pried open by jamming a screwdriver between the top of the steering column and the steering wheel.
Tip
Newer cars have complex wheel locks and electronic key systems that are nearly impossible to circumvent without tools and in-depth knowledge.
Step 7: Turn the car off
Turn the car off by separating the power wires from each other. Now it's time to find that extra set of keys and head to the repair shop, pronto.

Well... With the exception of the manual (And glove but who needs safety) all of those tools are easily replaced by a damn good knife with a rubber or wooden handle (Which as a man you should have on you anyways)

As a guy who had 7 car stealing charges on my record, let me tell you, half the time we just jammed a flathead in ignition and move some pins and wires around until it started, took us 30 seconds sometimes. Only on gm models though

Looks like im getting a new car :)
1) Open the hood
2) Locate the coil wire (it's a red wire at the rear of the engine) and run a wire from the + side of the battery, to the + side of the coil (or the red wire that goes to the coil) This gives power to the dash
3) Locate the starter solenoid. (follow the + battery cable) You will see a small wire & the + cable, cross these 2 with pliers. This cranks the engine.
4) Make sure the car is in neutral (in park if it's automatic) & the parking break is on. Then unlock the steering wheel
Can u please help me. I have a 2003 Honda Civic ex automatic trans. I have a new starter a new battery a new alternator and the thing won't start. I turn the key All electrical things turn on but no crank at all. A few people have said it's something with my car not recognizing the key or something along the lines of the ignition system being damaged. I was hoping you could please give me a way to start my car safely and not have to depend on the key/ignition system. I just don't have any $ to replace a part. This car is my livelihood, I use it to do door dash and now it's been down for a week and I have ZERO $ please explain in detail how I can get her running again.

I haven’t lost my keys but I’m willing to give this a try just in case I do. So I’ll simulate the scenario by throwing my keys in the river and then casually walking to the nearest old looking type of car that doesn’t have the security elements you describe. After a few cuts of wires I’ll be ready in no time to drive to wherever suits me the most. Most likely I’ll drive to a low security bank whereby I’ll check on UA-cam on how to rob such a bank.
Ironically enough, I found this cause I was curious while watching ZNation. You see them do it so often in a ton of zombie and apocalyptic TV shows and movies and I wanted to know if it was truly as easy as they make it seem.

Honestly the method my dad taught
Me is that drill the ingition to break the key pins and then get a flat blade screw driver n turn it like a key this trick works on almost all cars like SUVs,sedans from 2004-2012

Just a small correction, it's only 12V, sure there's a lot of amps(depending on the battery) but 12v wont pierce your finger skin (it will pierce your tongue but fight temptation and dont lick the power wires). Therefore insulated gloves are unnecessary, just be careful when touching the starter wires, you will see sparks and it can burn you if you're touching the metal ends of the wire.

+LoneStarGamer It was made in '62 so you should be able to pick the ignition lock. No steering locks or immobilizers for you to worry about. :)

i was trying to find out if the keyless cars could be hotwired or hacked but lol the screwdriver in the ignition brings back memories. Idk how, but my family's old Astro van's ignition got messed up, so it was "keyless ignition" lol, you could twist the ignition and start it right up! No key needed. We lived 'bout 15 minutes away from what was the chop shop capital of our state back in the 70s so Dad just kept pretending the key still worked XD

Well actually . I just got dropped off from work where I left my car , I'm great at leaving things . Just so happens left my keys at the job site . Fortunately I have all my tools ...
