The first white guys that were played all the time in the hood I grew up in back in the 80's. House parties and cars beating down the street with 12' & 15' sub woofers.
We listened to em nonstop in the 90s too ... Hello Nasty came out in high school which we loved, then we went back to Paul's Boutique and were kinda mind blown. Licensed to Ill after that and those 3 albums have been on rotation ever since!

Juvenile is an odd word to use. Comedic maybe. If you speak to most people into 80s Hip Hop, License to Ill is a classic. The Source have it in their top 100 albums of all time. The production was raw, and stripped down. Couldn't call that juvenile. A couple of tracks were jokey, No Sleep till Brooklyn, and Girls. Others like Hold It Now Hit It, and She's Crafty are just stone cold hard-core Hip Hop classics....sampled by other rappers. The production of Paul Revere was totally original. Plus they were on Def Jam, THE label to be on. If anything, the later albums played more to the white hipsters, than underground Hip hop heads (which is why they sold more records).
@@MarcoSpeaksNadsat The word juvenile means silly or immature - kind of like what you just called "jokey". And I can't take the song "She's crafty" that seriously LOL. They have even admitted in interviews that their first album was mostly just them being silly because they were teens. @@melissas4874 I don't know anyone from back in the day who analysed lyrics of Hip Hop tracks . Me and my peeps didn't in 1986. 95% of it were good time rhymes. Schooly D brought in Gangsta Rap, and conscious/political rap didn't really start with any importance until BDP and Public Enemy (2nd album). The Beastie Boys just conformed to that. People were nodding their heads to the beats and production, not breaking down and analysing the lyrics.
@@MarcoSpeaksNadsat You have to analyze lyrics to tell when they are silly? I guess if they are in latin you might? English is my first language so it takes no analysis. The Beastie Boys themselves said their first album was silly. You are moving goal posts to beats etc now. You said some of their songs were comical - beats are comical? I love love love watching people discover the Beasties. They lived outside the box. You both put a huge smile on my face today. I can’t wait to see your journey.
Legends. Easily the most influential hip hop group of all time, with a good amount of rock thrown in. They're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a reason. Check out "Intergalactic," "Sabotage," "So Whatcha Want," "Three MC's and One DJ," "Fight for Your Right to Party," "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," and so many more...
It was such a bummer I the Apple doc where they did not OWN Paul’s Boutique as best beastie album of all time. Y’all just hear same REVERSE BACKWARDS This beastie snare bass trap is all backwards.
intergalactic, Sabatoge, No Sleep till Brooklyn, Brass Monkey, girls, what'cha want, Hold It Now, Another great Rap Band is Run DMC, they are good too. =D
They did No Sleep till Brooklyn? I've heard that song but didn't know it was by them. This isn't the genre I usually listen to, but that is one I quite like.
Wow those are good but their whole discography is really good. Sabotage, fight for your right, no sleep till Brooklyn, and whatcha want are all very good also
You almost gave me a heart attack when you yelled out "I never heard of 'em!" - never heard of the Beastie Boys? Dear sweet baby Jesus. That's blasphemy. I'll give you guys props for taking in the whiffle ball bat line with a smile on your face and then groovin' right back into the jam without batting an eye. Most reactors can't handle that line without stoppin' for some weird reason.
They are 3 Jewish boys from New York that originally played punk. When Adam “MCA” Yauch passed away, there was respect from both coasts and every area of hip hop for the what they brought to hip hop and music.
"There's no way this is a rap group and I don't know it" making me laugh so hard, these guys are amazing. So many great songs, Sabotage, Whatcha Want, Intergalactic, Something's Got to Give, Sure Shot and so many more, entire great albums. BTW do NOT check out a band called Rage Against the Machine, I'd hate to see that wall get all gooey when your mind is blown.
yeah, they especially shouldnt watch them perform "Killing in the name" or "Bull on Parade" live at Pinkpop, absolutely shouldnt check those out. Should come with a warning label... ;)
Yeah.. and they absolutely not NOT EVER check out "Down Rodeo". sponges and mops would need to be used to clean up that mess on the floor when they're done.

Every single hip hop artist owes a debt and inspiration to and from the Beastie Boys. They not only brought Hip Hop to the masses, but they brought their own unique style and flow. They changed the landscape of hip hop and mainstream culture. Their second full album Paul's Boutique has only grown in legend, with every major hip hop artist citing it as Hip Hop Bible. From Chuck D to Questlove and beyond, their influence is deeply ingrained. They were already legendary before 1990, and before Check Your Head, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty
Beastie Boys are groundbreaking but Hip-hop/Rap had already reached the masses before them. Hip hop artists/Rappers should pay homage to the culture originators.
@@5x7m Sugarhill Gang broke through with 1 song in 1979, Rapper's Delight, which is legendary. However it didn't get past 36 on Billboard Hot 100, and the album didn't generate much else in terms of popularity or reaching the masses. License to Ill was the first hip hop album reach #1. It had multiple hit singles which got heavy play on radio and MTV. When "reaching the masses" is concerned, this refers to ubiquity and place within the popular landscape, that goes beyond major cities like NY and LA, but reaches the hearts of minds of those even in the midwest. It was Run DMC and Beastie Boys who really broke through in 86 & 87. Part of this was the extensive touring. Beastie Boys opened for Madonna, went on Tour with Run DMC, then headlined their own tour. Altogether that brought them to massive audiences, but also to people and places they may not have reached, however badly they were received by Madonna's mostly pop mainstream audience at the time. djrobblog.com/archives/293 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walk_This_Way#Charts en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beastie_Boys This is not to say that Beastie Boys were the first in hiphop. Sugarhill Gang was already mentioned, Fab 5 Freddy, and Grandmaster Flash along with others who I didn't know of at the time like OG DJ Kool
@@lttfan9185 I am talking about reaching the masses, not influence (that is a separate topic). See comment and links above. Hip-hop's reach was not prevalent or pervasive at the time. There were only sprinkles of it. Hitting the masses means going far beyond that. Other than the already mentioned Run DMC and Beastie Boys, who were back to back and both on Def Jam, what Hip Hop artist rose to the level of reaching the masses before they did - This means Top 40 radio, being known to people outside the Hip Hop community, people outside of youth culture knowing your name, the news, being heard everywhere (radio, tv, stores, and other public places). Sugar Hill Gang were essentially 1 hit wonders as far as commercial success is concerned, they had 1 other song that gained some play but not much. Also, people knew the song, few knew the band that wrote, and almost no one could name a member. Grandmaster Flash or Afrika Bambaataa never had a top 40 or Billboard 100 hit. The Message, White Lines, and World Destruction were the closest they came. Bambaataa's Planet Rock album is highly influential but was not a major hit. Public Enemy, NWA came directly after. LL Cool J all came with a hit album Radio in 85. He could barely get signed previously, and eventually signed to Def Jam because of the Beastie Boys played Rick Rubin his demo, as told by LL himself. ua-cam.com/video/A3B1iyVLOuk/v-deo.html
In 1991 Nirvana broke through and had HUGE success and impact with their lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit", from the album Nevermind. It changed everything in Rock. Radiostaions changed formats, Record labels started signing bands they thought were similar. etc etc. "Alternative" had hit the big time. It was everywhere and ubiquitous. Kids in sububurgs and small towns were playing all the new (and not so new ) Alternative albums and singles. Yet, "Nevermind" was not the first "Alternative" album. There were plenty of good and even some groundbreaking album that came prior to that album and that were minor hits. Pixies, Jane's Addiction, Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jesus and Mary Chain, NIN and even Pearl Jam's Ten all released albums prior to Nevermind, which had success. But it was Nevermind that exploded Alternative music into the mainstream and masses, even giving a spotlight to the Grunge subgenera. This is similar to the Beastie Boys. At that time all the aforementioned bands had gold albums which were quite good/great, but they didn't change the landscape, bring the spotlight, open the door for the masses to come into the Alternative house. Your suburban kid in Kansas was not rocking out to Jane's Addiction, Jesus & Mary Chain or Faith No More, or wearing their Tshirts. More likely than not, they were most likely wearing Boston, Hair Metal, or Rush, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith or Tom Perry. Alternative was fringe until Nirvana. A similar situation played out with Hip Hop and Beastie Boys/Run DMC
This is the beginnings of Hip Hop. They were pioneers in production that's why you hear things that are familiar that you may have heard in newer songs. This album, Licensed to Ill, came out in 1986.
Good to see you got to my personal favorite hip hop band. Sooooo many songs, sooo many different sounds they had. Paul's boutique is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever. Check your head is when they truly got in touch with their musical talent. Played their own instruments and still stuck to hip hop. Great great band.
Legends we couldn't believe this flow and vibe when it came out.. we were all shocked by so happy!! Put the tape in the car let the whole thing run it was all good start to finish LUL
LL Cool J and Beastie Boys have a deep history. LL did their induction into the rock and roll hall of fame and his speech about how they met was such a great moment. I don't want to ruin it if you check it out, but it's definitely worth the time.
If you want a big hit of there's than you want "Intergalactic". Now if you want something funky with a whole bunch of flow changes and samples that could never be done today ( because the rights to the songs would be to damned expensive ) and you want to make my day how about the lesser known "shake your rump"
Exactly. Beastie Boys did something that other artist from that era couldn't do and that was evolve their sound with each album. It's why they stayed viable, unlik most artist from that era.
One more thing u guys talk about that Missy Elliot beat. They’re playing an 808 backwards. An 808 creates that deep bass drum. Young MC did the same bear on his song “Bust a Move”
Actually, "Bust A Move" uses a noise gate (a kind of audio effects processor) to chop off the reverb of the drums (808) to give them that short, punchy sound - it isn't backwards like in Paul Revere. But the best thing about Bust A Move is the Flea (from Red Hot Chili Peppers) bass line.
I was ready for “HOLD IT NOW HOLD IT NOW HOLD IT NOW. HIT IT!” Hearing this hurts my heart. There’s nothing worse than hearing rap fans start their love of rap in 1998 lol. Research how it got to that point. Music doesn’t begin the year we’re born.

Or did you reach that deduction by "analysing the lyrics"?
Or maybe you just need to get over yourself and quit getting so emo over some comments about music you didn't have any part in creating.
@@melissas4874 Lol getting personal on a discussion about the Beastie Boys because your strawmanning doesn't work. You 16 year olds can't have a conversation about anything. Jog on now and bother someone else.

As a Generation X kid, I suddenly aged because of her brief comment.
Lol! Me too!!🤣
Yeah..(sigh) Yeah... but what a time to be alive!
OMG YESSSS!!!!!! You guys need to do a reaction to Slick Rick Children’s Story!!!! If you liked this you will love Slick Rick, Dana Dane, Salt N Pepper, JJFad…… it was the best growing up in the Gen X era!!! ❤️
Gen Xers are the new Boomers. Sigh. Oldness.
These channels are enjoyable but make me finally feel old(er).
That this is the first song you ever heard from The Bestie Boys is one of the best thing in this Universe. Thank yous

Yauch: I’m about to wreck this man
RIP to our Yauch...we love ya man!!
RIP ❤
RIP to “MCA” Adam Yauch. You gotta know your hip hop man. These guys were there almost from the start. From 1981 to 2012 bro. They’re 3 white guys also.
3 white guys and 1 world champion DJ.
Without Mike D, LL Cool J wouldn't have gotten his big break.
Fuxk that eip mca shit is played out . It happened almost 20 years ago
Paul's Boutique is honestly one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.
Of. All. Time. You have to react to that album.
The album of a thousand samples!
The album that I could leave on repeat almost forever.
I just bought the album again for the fourth time in my life.
An album that could never be done today. It's one of a kind.
Facts
It was such a bummer I the Apple doc where they did not OWN Paul’s Boutique as best beastie album of all time. Y’all just hear same REVERSE BACKWARDS This beastie snare bass trap is all backwards.
My first Beastie Boy song when I was young. Always a classic.
intergalactic, Sabatoge, No Sleep till Brooklyn, Brass Monkey, girls, what'cha want, Hold It Now, Another great Rap Band is Run DMC, they are good too. =D
They did No Sleep till Brooklyn? I've heard that song but didn't know it was by them. This isn't the genre I usually listen to, but that is one I quite like.
@@camerondon3712 yup. They did that song too. It’s totally one of my favorites.
Slow and low.. my favorite
@@camerondon3712 listen to the entire license to I’ll album in order. You won’t regret it. The tracks flow perfectly in sequence.
Three MCs and One DJ and Intergalactic. Those are two of their best.
Both will blow your mind!!!!
Most reactors can't handle that line without stoppin' for some weird reason.
lol I noticed that too
I wonder how many of those reactors who stop at that point are trying to figure out what the hell a whiffle ball bat is 😂
They are 3 Jewish boys from New York that originally played punk. When Adam “MCA” Yauch passed away, there was respect from both coasts and every area of hip hop for the what they brought to hip hop and music.
Hip hop fans that don't know the beastie boys blows my mind. These guys where the best. Nobody comes close.
"Rhymin and Stealin'" is another of their earlier hits.
The first tune that got them on the radio was "Fight for your Right(to Party!)"
Yeah… laughed my ass off when he said that shit..
Just knew this reaction was going to be great once he said "If it was Rap I'd know about Beastie Boys" Had to hit pause and grab a cold refreshment and get ready for The Magic to Happen.
You guys have to react to Intergalactic! I recommend the official video, it's dope!
OMG! You just found out about Beastie Boys. Enjoy the journey. "Shake Your Rump" and so many others. "Sure Shot" "So What'cha Want". Keep up the great work you silly youngsters. I'm 51 and been listening to these gentlemen since their first Rap. They used to do some Punk rock first.
What I remember most about this song, is that you could totally hear those symbols a mile away from someone listening to it on headphones and know exactly what they where listening to.lol And back then it was often........
Paul's Boutique has a legit claim to greatest hip hop album ever. For true.
Yes indeed it is. Compare it to ANY rap album. The production stands the test of time, and it was made in the 80s!
💯
Haha Great reaction!!! try a few more
"No sleep till Brooklyn"
"Brass Monkey "
"whatcha want"
NO SLEEP TILL BROOKLYN!!
👍🙌
Whatcha whatcha whatcha want, whatcha want!?
Sabotage pleeeaaasse
Yes! Exactly. I bet he'll recognize them then...
Intergalactic !!!
Best Beastie Boys song ever!!!! Thanks for that one! Sang every word right along with it and this song is definitely on my play list today!!!
You don't just need to hear more Beastie Boys, you need to get with all the 80's rap scene. Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Whoudini and on and on.
wild Wild West
LL Cool J "I'm Bad" or "Going Back to Cali", Run DMC "It's Tricky", Whodini "Friends" or "Early Mother's Day Card", and SO many others...

Yes! The truth has been spoken!
"I've never heard of them, so they can't be rappers"

Beasties are beyond seminal in hip-hop. Godfathers, Grandfathers, whatever you like. Just 3 white boys from NYC. Done SO much for hip-hop.
The sheer number of hip-hop fan reactors who've never heard of them is just shocking.

Beastie Boys are like the radiohead of alternative rap. Each album is progressively different. License to Ill is worth a full playthrough.
They toured with Rum DMC. Old school hip hop to the core.
Rum DMC lol
I played this album on loop for years. It's all fire.
Any other beastie fan start singing “Hold it now. Hold it now. Hit it!” Right when they stopped the music? I wore this album out back in the day!
That whole album is great. I think you started with one of my favorites.
Just thinking the same thing...

This is not to say that Beastie Boys were the first in hiphop. Sugarhill Gang was already mentioned, Fab 5 Freddy, and Grandmaster Flash along with others who I didn't know of at the time like OG DJ Kool
@@MBeano you're way underselling the reach of hip-hop before and during the Beastie's rise.

Their video for "3 MCs and 1 DJ" is legendary. Live shot on one take. It's so good. You've got to check it out.
If you had a party in the 80"s all you had to do is put on "license to Ill" and shit got lit.
All through the 90's too.

I can't fault these 2 because they are obviously younger than me but Beastie Boys are legends of hip hop. Know the history of a genre you love folks.
Wow....you guys are killin it with my teen years. Beasties rule. Hall of Famers.

"Sure Shot" is great hit by them. "Shake Your Rump" is maybe my favorite of theirs
LL Cool J and Beastie Boys have a deep history. LL did their induction into the rock and roll hall of fame and his speech about how they met was such a great moment. I don't want to ruin it if you check it out, but it's definitely worth the time.
My favorite Beastie Boys song ❤
If you want a big hit of there's than you want "Intergalactic". Now if you want something funky with a whole bunch of flow changes and samples that could never be done today ( because the rights to the songs would be to damned expensive ) and you want to make my day how about the lesser known "shake your rump"
Yes, this is the next one to go to
Do the Entire “License to Ill” before examining the evolution.
EXACTLY
Exactly. Beastie Boys did something that other artist from that era couldn't do and that was evolve their sound with each album. It's why they stayed viable, unlik most artist from that era.
Agreed, because when you want to "go back", the beginning is as far as you can go!
You're thinking of Ms Jade's part on Missy's Funky Fresh Dressed, it's a straight tribute to this track
"Paul's Boutique" is where it's at with Beasties albums. Recommend "Shake Your Rump" and "High Plains Drifter" off that.

High Plains Drifter!
But after 30 plus years of listening to Paul's Boutique, I'd say Shadrach is the number one track.
That record changed music. It's so fucking brilliant.
@@britishrocklovingyank3491 If you want to prove that sampling can be art, Paul's Boutique is Exhibit A.
I still can't hear the end of this song without immediately saying, "Hold it now, hold it now, hold it now, hit it!"
“ I know rap and hip-hop way way back”
…Obviously you don’t.
BEASTIE Boys started as a Punk Rock Band, but turned into something that transcends all music genre’s.
At the age of 50, I still rock out to my boys!

Hearing this hurts my heart. There’s nothing worse than hearing rap fans start their love of rap in 1998 lol. Research how it got to that point. Music doesn’t begin the year we’re born.
