The guy with the star-shaped sunglasses is Bootsy Collins, the legendary bass player for Parliament-Funkadelic, one of the best ever funk groups from the 70s.
Dee-Lite, made up of Lady Miss Kier (primarily vocals), Supa DJ Dmitry (keyboards, guitar), and Jungle DJ Towa Tei (keyboards, turntables, programming). On this song, they had the legendary Bootsy Collins from Parliament Funkadelic on bass, Fred Wesley on trombone, Maceo Parker on sax, and Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest performing the rap. An absolute classic and you two were adorable reacting to it! I grew up loving this as a young teenager, grew up to be a drag queen heavily inspired by the lead singer, met my idol years later, and actually ended up performing this song with the Lady Miss Kier herself onstage. (you were correct: Deee-LIte is the band's name). If you've done much looking into them, the band is incorrectly labelled a "one-hit-wonder." They came from the same NYC club scene as RuPaul in the late 1980's to 1990's and a majority of their amazing work remained in clubland and later in the early rave scene. Let me know if you're still interested in a bit more of them and I'd be happy to school you! Deee-groovy!

Anyone who heard this when it first came out and says they don't love it is lying. This song is undeniable. Her voice is great, it's arranged perfectly and Bootsy Collins rocks it on the bass.
The mixing of all those different genres (rap, funk, disco, house, you name it) is actually what this song is about. The message is that it never matters which genre a song is because groove is in the heart. It means free you mind and open up for new experiences.
Deee-Lite were disco babies. Given that disco took in so many styles, it's not a surprise their's was so varied. Don't expect the trio's other songs to be like this one. There is an undercurrent of '90s House and Garage, which is mixed in with '60s Lounge, spoken word, r&b, and the psychedelic sounds of the early '70s. Some of their other non-pop songs are Runaway, I Had A Dream I Was Falling Through A Ozone Layer, Power Of Love, Good Beat, Thank You Every Day, Picnic In The Summertime, and Bittersweet Loving.
This song was a huge hit in the early nineties! It has a retro sound and the video is amazing with cameos by the great funkster, Bootsy Collins and rap pioneer Q-Tip! I love the eighties and early nineties because there was such a wide variety of musical styles to love! ❤️❤️
That was what i just commented. The whole clip similar to Adam Ant could be pulled out of that time and put straight into now. No one would question its fashion as new..
I just have to know how many times Amber went back and listen to this song on that day. I don't even listen to the actual recording this anymore, I just watch this reaction video, because it makes me so ridiculously happy! I'm a 90s kid, and it just fills me with so much joy to watch the next generations enjoying such a massive part of my childhood!

And good idea.... I wish I'd remembered her dance moves during my deliveries!! lol!! So glad you loved it too J!! :)
Glad you found this fun duo. They came out of the dance/house scene here in NYC, and if you were in NYC at the time you'd see them all over. You can tell their influences from 70's retro to funk to house. They were really a duo with Lady Kier and Towa Tei forming the base. The duo only had one other minor hit with "Power Of Love" which was okay, but not up to this bubbly hybrid. Also the rapper on this was Q-Tip. By the way, the bassist on this cut was the great Bootsy Collins who was part of Parliament/Funkadelic for many years. Try George Clinton's band and their great cuts, "(Not Just) Knee Deep", "Flashlight", and "One Nation Under A Groove" for a taste of the Funkmaster.
I have a confession. Back in the day, this song was freakin' everywhere - ultra-heavy rotation on ALL the radio stations & MTV...you couldn't escape it - I got so sick of it. Now, I love it again.
It's one of my favourite songs ever. The guest musicians are also amazing. Guest vocals and bass from Bootsy Collins, Fred Wesley on trombone, Maceo Parker on saxaphone, and the rap from A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip. Guaranteed home run!
A couple of months after this song had hit the airwaves (and was on heavy rotation on MTV), I was getting a dental procedure that required me to be on some HEAVY nitrous oxide. The radio station that the dentist's office was playing played this song, and I started seeing the colors from the music video's background.
I have loved this song for over 30 years! I played it at a friend's wedding disco several years ago (i was the DJ) and a crowd danced around their handbags, taking turns in the centre. Never get tired of hearing it. Perfect song. ❤
Sade is where it's at.. now that is some good music. Give Sade a listen guys.. you won't regret it.. great choice for female Friday. If you want to go way back, another great artist and song would be Carly Simon performing a live version of We'll Marry from the early to mid 70s. Great channel.. thanks for the groove!
I heard this song at a disco in the Philippines while still in the service. I've heard bits and pieces of it on TV shows since but this was the first time to see the video. Unfortunately for me these days the funkiest thing from me comes after eating asparagus. Fun video and did make me dance in my chair a bit. Enjoy you two very much and looking forward to the next reaction.

Good Stuff is an awesome 90s B-52s song
Music is true sorcery, to create sounds that cause people to move and react involuntarily and overwhelm them with emotion is a magical gift.
That's Bootsy Collins on bass...
Bootzilla, baby!
Bootsy was the man in Parliment Funkadelic...yall need to some Parliment.
#LEGEND
Up until he signed on with James Brown, Bootsy could only afford a standard electric guitar strung with 4 bass strings. James bought Bootsy his first real bass guitar. James took the guitar back when Bootsy moved on.

Amber is making me smile at how happy she is!!! She is a whole mood!! 🥰🥰🥰
I swear, this comes on and everyone goes fucking wild.. And I mean wild, people can't catch the breath enough..
@Pierpaolo Nathan You got that right! I'm an older biker lady and I'm right up there shaking my ass! This was one of my absolute favorites when it hit the airwaves! I listen to everything when it comes to music! 🎵 I'm on Long Island NY and this blew up in every club out here and in NYC. Such great memories of BOOGIEING WAY ON DOWN to this! 🤟😏🙂❤️😃😎🤘
@@christinegelabert1651 it's the oddest and funkiest and must-dance tune ever existed. One must shakw and relentlessly.. Lol
I wonder what scale and notes and Herts it has and touches for humans to have such reaction and where are the centre of those on the human body.. Devine
Can you imagine back in the day when it came out? Guuuurrrrlll that floor had SMOKE coming off of it!
This song was EVERYWHERE. We had a bit of 60s style revival back then and it was so fun! ❤️
And could be everywhere again... tomorrow!
Remember when flares and platform shoes came back in around 92/3
@@craiggillett5985 Oh yes…I was all up in the middle of it. 🤣
I had a pair of hot pants!!
This was my era, the moment that dropped. The club went MENTAL..
London 1990's. Great times. X
GenX here...Every party in college this song played multiple times. And NEVER got old. Because....the GROOVE IS IN THE HEAAAAAARRRRRT! It forces you to dance.
You need to do pump up the jam by technotronic, now, same era.
Was there some remix with both songs maybe played at the clubs in the 90s? I was listening to this video in the car on my way home watching again in a drive thru. Anyway I kept singing it but I keep throwing "Pump Up the Jam, Pump it Up! Pump it Up! Just feels like it belongs in there.
Another vote for listening to "Pump Up The Jam"
She was a Somalian refugee, if I remember correctly
Yeeeess, up vote for pump up the jam
My hard rockin’, whiskey drinkin’ blues musician brother absolutely, unapologetically loves this song. As do the rest of us. 😎
Really, how many great songs can get away with using a slide whistle? Love this song.
It's from an old 70s funk tune
This is such a great vibe! Q-Tip from Tribe Called Quest is the rapper and the guitar player is Bootsy Collins from Parliament! So so funky!!!
I thought Rob was a hardcore rap fan, he didn't recognize Q-Tip?
Thank you for the deep dive! Correct 💯💯💯
Amazing group of interesting people, the rapper is Q-tip from a Tribe called Quest, The space man bass player is Bootsie Collins from Parliament/Funkadelic, The sax player is Maceo Parker who played in James Browns Band, the singer is Kier Kirby from New York and the dj's are from Japan and Russia, Dee groovy
Her reaction to this song was absolutely adorable! she just got so happy. : )
This song still slaps. When I first heard it I thought how silly, but couldn't stop moving. I haven't stopped listening to it.
Quality shit is timeless, James Brown on Soultrain with trippy 90s vibes. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🎸
That song just gets in your body and spine, and you can't help but GROOVE, baby!!!!
Genius of Love by the Tom Tom Club from the 80's were quite the funky beat too!! That song killed it in the day!!
OMG, I love this song! :D
Female Friday* Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter 💯Hell Yes🔥🔥 u two r tearing up the reactions❤️.
No no no, you have to hear the original Simon and Garfunkel version first, THEN do the Bangles. It's a great cover, but there's nobody like Simon and Garfunkel!
FEMALE FRIDAY!! Bangles, Yes!!🔥🔥🔥💯💯
One of the true "one hit wonders" that deserves recognition and admiration. Such a funky groove!
Give Digable Planets' "Rebirth of Slick" a listen
it's cool like that, it's cool like that, it's cool
YES!!
AMEN!!
For sure!
Just downloaded that song last week. Why? Cause I’m cool like dat! 🤣🤣🤣
For female Friday
Sade smooth operator is a classic
I second this. Sade is amazing
I’m 47 this was one of my fave songs in 1991 when I was 13…. And I recently purchased it on 12 inch vinyl version on eBay …. Magic, de groveeyyyyy ! See our music was the best ❤
Bootsy Collins, Q Tip (of Tribe Called Quest fame) popping with guest appearances, this is full on 90's groove!
Yo. Bootsy Collins.
And Maceo Parker on the sax.
Anyone who heard this when it first came out and says they don't love it is lying. This song is undeniable. Her voice is great, it's arranged perfectly and Bootsy Collins rocks it on the bass.
@@Julie-ev5js Ok, well, here's an old greasy brown paper bag for you to play with over there in Sulky Corner.
Late 80s, early 90s was the rebirth of psychedelic music. And this stomped all over the clubs with her huge Fluevog shoes and cool look.
Im not sure if you have done anything by Salt N Peppa, but you should check them out!
Push it GOOD!
P-push it real good
1 yr later....whenever I'm feeling down,I look for this reaction..Amber's smile and laughter snaps me right outta it! Thank you Amber!❤❤❤
GOOD GOD 👍 😮
Early 90s NYC was so much fun! This brings back so many memories, Glad you guys enjoy their music!
If you like this, try "I Feel for You" by Chaka Khan.
Oh, good call! I forgot about that one
Feel for you. Soul diva herself Chaka Khan. Yes please 🙏
Yes!! Love that!
Perhaps as well as the original version by Prince?
Give me Something Good! Chaka
Presenting one of the original 'man-buns'.
That was what i just commented. The whole clip similar to Adam Ant could be pulled out of that time and put straight into now. No one would question its fashion as new..
This reaction video is now officially my happy place.
My favorite song of all time from my favorite band of all time! 🌈🍄💖 Glad you enjoyed!
Such a great song. Glad to see it is still instantly loved all these years later. Transcendent!!
Recent subscriber loving you guys cruising through my childhood. So many great and timeless tunes from 70's/80's/90's Britain. Thanks for all you do!
"Groove Is In The Heart" sampled 3 different songs (all of which are worth a listen to as well)- -
"Get Up" by Vernon Burch
"Bring Down The Birds" by Herbie Hancock
"Introduction" by Grecian Knights
The song has, itself, has been sampled in 38 other songs.
Please for Female Friday listen to Til' Tuesday " Voices Carry". Then for another reaction on a different day, please get Amber to react to Skid Row " I Remember You" The Official Video. Y'all will love it!!
Throw 'Til Tuesday's "What About Love" on that list too ..... ua-cam.com/video/YHPRtPZwSNI/v-deo.html
Yes! I'm in "Voices Carry!"
Fun fact: I do a great rendition of "Voices Carry". 😁😁😁
Anything by Aimee is PERFECT!! "Coming Up Close" "Lucky".
I Touch Myself by the Divynls
Absolutely one of my favorite songs when it was out! Lady Kier was unbelievable! Dee Lite was way ahead of their time. Everyone that hears this song the first time freaks out!
Your joy over this song Amber was awesome and infectious!!! It's exactly how most of us feel every time we hear this! As soon as I saw the notification, I knew this was gonna be a fun reaction!! And good idea.... I wish I'd remembered her dance moves during my deliveries!! lol!! So glad you loved it too J!! :)
How much Amber loved this song was priceless. This is my favorite reaction yet from you guys😀
32 years after, this masterpiece has not aged ! Classic groooooove !
Flashlight----there's a 70's staple no body ever hears anymore! lol
I have a confession. Back in the day, this song was freakin' everywhere - ultra-heavy rotation on ALL the radio stations & MTV...you couldn't escape it - I got so sick of it. Now, I love it again.
Q Tip seek him out….
Literally may be my favorite reaction of you two. Girl, you were so into the song - love how fun you are! Don't ever change just being you!!! 😊❤️😊
need to do the icons of the early 90's women - LISA STANSFIELD "Been Around the World" and SADE "Smooth Operator" you will be fans forever.
Yes!! Lisa stansfield is an icon.
Another vote for "Smooth Operator" by Sade
Smooth Operator came out in '84 not the 90's
Both are on my permanent play list , love Sade
The break with QTip gives me a goosebumps. Hair standing up on my arms and legs. This song still holds up!
You can imagine how we all reacted when we heard this the first time in the early 90s. Everyone loved this song and how could you not.
Philippines was great
Deeee-Lite has to be the craziest ensemble ever. Phunkadelic Royalty Bootsy, Lady Miss Kier...both from Ohio, an Asian DJ, a Russian DJ and Q-tip quest rapping.
Born in Ohio. She lived in Pittsburgh, Virginia Beach, DC and NYC.
I'm surprised Jordan didn't recognize Q's rapping
No one ever mentions jazz great Maceo Parker on the sax! He even walks through near the end.
I watch this reaction at least once a month. It makes me so happy to see you both get so excited! Not to mention, I get a name drop!
This is the iconic song that Every.Body.Loved. Didn't matter what genre you usually listened to- everyone got on the dance floor when this song came on. And we've never heard a song like it- before it or ever since
Hi. New to the channel. As a Gen X'er, I love seeing how the two generations after me are discovering the music that was a huge part of my life. I had a big smile on my face watching you guys react to this song. It's so iconic and stayed in my rotation when I was in high school. Some of my other favorites I think you might like are: Soul II Soul (Back To Life), Brand New Heavies (Never Stop), CeCe Peniston (Keep On Walkin', Love Thang, Not Over You, I'm In The Mood - E. 87th St. Mix), Crystal Waters (Gypsy Woman, 100% Pure Love), Shanice (I Love Your Smile). If you haven't already, give them a listen; I don't think you'll be disappointed 😎👍🏾
As a UKer X gen, I am forever thankful to the BBC Radio "Pick of the pops" on sunday mornings/lunchtime with Alan Freeman.
It was the top ten this week in history in the 50s, 60s, 70s etc.
Found so much music!
Brand New Heavies with N’Dea
Davenport ❤. I still jam to their first two albums and Jamiroquai’s first five albums to this day.
Deee-Lite was my jam in late high school/early college. They’re considered a one hit wonder, but there were many great party/dance tracks on their records.
The early 1990s was a wonderous time to be alive and a music lover - this reaction gained you a subscriber :)
90s song but done with a 60s vibe. The word is "trippy"
There are songs that no matter the country or decade, once they start rolling everybody does dance them.
Back in the day....you heard this so much you memorized where all the snaps, whistles, scratches, and pauses were...and did little crazy dance bits to match. That would impress others if you knew just when to mix up your dance moves.
This one always packed the dance floor. Great to see you kids enjoyin this! 💚
This is how this song made us feel in the early 90's, and this is how it SHOULD make you feel. Great reaction to a great fun song.
Dee-Lite is great group!!! Played in all the Dance bars in 80's and 90's!!!!
What did they take? Acid and X of course. They were NYC club kids in the 90’s.
That’s My theme song & one of My favorites of all time to dance to!❤️😀
This song pairs perfectly with "Love Shack." If I hear one, I gotta hear the other. Love you guys! You both are such a joy to watch.
So much joy and hope for that decade!!!
It’s fun watching younger people explore and discover older music. Now you can understand why us old folks say music now can’t touch what we listened to. 😄 enjoy your journey!
Exactly ❣️❣️..... My oldest granddaughter 23 and my nephew who is 10 walk around listening to Queen 🙏🏾🤷🏾❤️
probably the most cheerful song and video ever
The joy of people seeing or hearing these utter classics is awesome!
