Wow, this is really something else. I've been trying to find a decent guide for this colour scheme and you really nailed it. Using the Contrast paint as a wash and then glazing it using a Shade paint was a great technique that I'll definitely be using from now on.
I enjoyed it! I hit all the buttons too! Please do more Age of Sigmar stuff, would love to see more stuff from the dominion box if you have it, if not anything is great👍 Thanks for the great vid, also thank you for not speeding up the footage. So many people speed up their brush stroke footage, seeing it in real time was nice. It really shows how careful and precise you need to be as you paint. Thanks again 👍
Thank you! Really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for the sub, much appreciated. I do have some more AoS content planned for sure. I do try and make videos which will have colour recipes and ideas which will work across all gaming systems... for example, I'm doing a Thousand Sons video at the moment which has a lovely gold recipe which would look amazing on Stormcast. I'm especially glad to hear you like seeing the painting in real time. I agonise over how much to show as I dont want to bore people with watching paint dry but still want to give a reasonable idea of how I apply my paints. As you can see I try and go for a balance :) Have fun painting Brushstroke
My Dominion Stormcast are still on sprue. I don't like gold as a color and I keep looking for different schemes for the Stormcast models. I don't play, but I like the minis; I just haven't found the right color, but that plum is striking.
Thank you Apologies for the focus issues in places. The long spear arm played havoc with my camera. I did the best with the footage I had. Once it’s painted and recorded it’s really hard to do redos. Camera work and filming is an area I’m trying to improve on, so I do accept the feedback completely 🙂
Cheers man. This filming lark is like a whole new hobby on its own. UA-camrs have gotten so great at making videos it’s set the bar really high for people trying to start out. Appreciate you not just giving it a thumbs down and commenting though, helps me know what to concentrate on for next time
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides The standard is indeed quite high. I might have expectations comparable to those videos instead of judging this by itself. Thanks for pointing it out!
Awesome video, great paint scheme. I'll be painting my storm casts from the dominion box like this! Any chance you could do a basing tutorial on how you based this guy? It looks fantastic!
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed the video and will be giving it a go. Be sure and let me know how you get on. Yeah, I can do a guide on these bases, I have to make a stack more for the rest of my Dominion box, so I’ll film me making one 👍🏻
What golds and silver metallic colors would you recommend.. trying to broaden my horizons and try other something other the the GW colors ? .. painting Grey Knights
I’m a big fan of Darkstar molten metallics. Well worth getting some of those, I’ll take a look at Grey Knights and see which ones would be a good place to start
On one of your twitter or insta posts you had another of the Stormcasts painted with the cape. Looking at painting some of my other Stormcasts and was wondering what your recommendation would be for the capes, peurges and scabbards that match well with this colour scheme.
For cloaks I just went with the same turquoise recipe I used here for the plume with a dark cream lining. Which, I think was morghast bone with an Army Painter Light tone wash But any cream / bone recipe you like should work fine. For details like scabbards etc I just kept them simple and went black with grey highlights, like in the video. Hope that helps? Please do send some pics of how you get on 👍🏻
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it. The heads in the Dominion boxset are a bit annoying, as they have pegs on. I ended up cutting the peg off and tested how it needed to fit before I glued the body together. I took pics of how the head should look. So when I came to add the painted head back on I knew how it should fit etc
Organic? Yeah, good thinking.... I don't have any Nurgle I'm afraid but I do have some really cool Daughters of Khaine I've been meaning to paint up for a while. They could be a good shout
Looks great!! One question I have is, when you're doing the edge highlighting are you adding any sort of drying retardant to prevent your brush from drying out too quickly? Or is the water enough when you've thinned it down?
Thanks No, not using any retardant. Just water on a wet palette. I’m lucky it’s not very hot here at the moment and I tend to paint at night so drying on the brush isn’t too much of a problem. If you’re somewhere hotter, just keep an eye on your paint and make sure you keep your brush bristles moist before adding the paint to the brush
Hi, yes I do varnish all my minis when finished. I don’t get as much time as I’d like to game unfortunately, so they mostly spend time on the shelf but I like them to be able to stand up to use when needed. I like to use a matte varnish and my go to is Testors Dullcote. Hope that helps 👍🏻
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides Thats great thanks....I know the feeling between real life time limits and covid, gaming is low down the list. I havent tried testors dullcoat before, however any time i have tried to source it, its been unavailable...typical.
I know right? Really hoping next year will be better and will be able to make some events again I think Dullcote have been hit with supply problems due to COVID etc I’ve heard a few people have struggled recently. I might try a few other brands out to see if there’s another option I can recommend to people who are struggling.
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides depressing stuff...sorry to add to woes, but ive just read that testors has been discontinued due to its environment melting properties...apparently its like satan in a can for the environment...Ill look at other more eco friendly options.
