Hats off to California Dairy Farmers as they deal with so many state regulations as well as rising costs and lack of water. Thank you farmers. From Bakersfield California USA.
I’m from Stanislaus county. Raised in Fresno, but most of my life is all right here in the northern Central Valley. We dairy. It’s what we do best! Thank you for making this video, it’s a true tribute to our little neck of the woods.
He was fabulous to interview. A wealth of knowledge and extremely articulate. I like him. 😀. I can’t imagine all the regulations the state of California has for farmers.
Everything in California in on a different level , no surprize to see this dairy farm so innovative , a perfect match of science ,with technology & environment .

I'm sure this farmer is pleased that he gets your politically correct 'environmentally conscious' seal of approval. I'm sure it would be worth more if he knew you were an efficient, and environmentally conscious Newsome asskisser..
We milked 400 cows north of San Francisco and after touring the large dairies of the south we decided to sell out. In fact a large dairy had bought us out. One of the best days of my life.
Very cool on your use of water and soon solar! Don't think I'd drink it but great for crops! You treat your cows well sir good job! There's a lot of smaller farms here in Ohio! To many rolling hills! For big business!
It's truly impressive to see a dairy farm successfully manage 2400 Jersey cows, especially in the picturesque setting of California! The scale and efficiency of this operation must involve some remarkable strategies. I'm curious, what are the key aspects of dairy farm management that enable such a large herd to be maintained effectively? Also, how does this farm ensure the health and well-being of the Jersey cows while maintaining high productivity? It's fascinating to get an inside look at the operations of such a substantial and well-run dairy farm
What an amazing tour you showed us, Jan! I knew Hilmar was famous for milk and cheese... but I had no idea how huge this place really was! I also had no idea I lived so close to this huge Jersey dairy farm! They also have a good high school football team. We have played against Hilmar in the past! (Go Sonora Wildcats!!!) That is how near we are! Thank you for showcasing this beautiful farm! The town of Hilmar now has a new meaning to me.
Nice layout, lot bigger than my 70 cow of registered Jersey’s . Mine was a one man operation with added help of my wife. Been over 30 years since we farmed. As a grade “A” was difficult to keep up with new requirements known as EPA. Thanks for the nice tour. Milked in NC
Interesting part at 14:24. I've seen that first hand at my work. Company had to cut back overtime so they brought machines to take over packaging of these perfume boxes. That thing replaced about 8 people over night.
Sweet tour Jan. Nice to hear other farms saying they are trying to do more for the dairy industry. Great tour. Much appreciated Jan! Well done!!! Hope you got some free time while on your trip.
lol, way to go spinning fair labor / wage laws into some sort of evil plot by the government to eliminate jobs. That one job was eliminated but California has a farm worker shortage.
@@nyotauhura7412 I'm sorry. It wasn't an attempt to spin anything. I did not say it was an evil plot by the government to eliminate jobs. I will edit my comment. Thanks for your expertise. Much appreciated.
Great job I learned a lot you guys work really hard on that farm on a daily basis👍🏽👍🏽 some of us just see the milk on the shelf but to see the process is on another level can’t stop watching the episodes your sisters are awesome 👏🏽👏🏽…. Are you guys able to have family vacations
Jerseys always seem to have the most curiosity manner of any dairy breed in my opinion! Definitely not camera shy !! Enjoyed the video, nice farming operation .
Super cool to see them go electric - will save them quite a bit on maintenance and fuel as well as keep the central valley air cleaner (every little bit helps that place LOL).
I really like this farm very interesting to watch a big jersey dairy farm like this .iam also working in a dairy farm in New Zealand 🇳🇿 but iam from Fiji 🇫🇯 Island 🏝. I wish to work in a dairy farm like this. I wish you all guys for the good hard work all the year and God bless.
And it can be well beyond what even he showed. It depends on what the farmer is willing to take a chance on, the expense is huge and they do their paperwork to see if it'll cash flow. Got to make a profit or why would you do it if you didn't make a profit to get ahead?
Well done Jan. Another great video. The one thing I got from this one is that it isn't us versus them, it is that they know how to do stuff very well and so do we. Keep farming and keep caring!
You have to commend your family members to sustain through everything in the past 50 years that has come through all the legal courts on farming and financial issues which broke many farmers especially in the Midwest… I saw many third and fourth family generations break I lose a farm that they’d work before the 1900s they no longer could afford to Keep! Really proud of your family and I really enjoyed particularly being able to watch this dairy farm as that’s what we had growing up. My father especially preferred jersey cattle as did my mother however, there came a time when I remember Holsteins joined the farm and I did not like them as a child as their feet were SO BIG & THEY WERE SO MUCH TALLER THAN THE SWEET, CALM JERSEY’s!!!! We were selling our milk to a large grade a company that is still in business and I wasn’t let in on the private decision making process… Rather I just took care of the separator and we were doing everything at that point in the mid 50s by hand and I was never so happy as to see those Holsteins leave our dairy farm a few years later. I know there are people that love them because as you travel across the Midwest you will see farms that are strictly Holstein but I’m with you guys… Jersey all the way❣️❣️♥️ I no longer live on a farm but if I’m painting a baby calf, there’s none any cuter than a jersey calf with his big brown eyes and his big dark nose I looking up at you and there will be a little legs and they are just adorable no two ways about it!!!! Every year than I make it to the state fair in Iowa, I make sure that I make it to the barn where the Jersey cattle are because they always have a cow or two that give birth to a jersey calf and it just makes my day. I would love to see your baby calf barn in one of your videos!! Continue to watch your videos and kudos on making it all these years and standing up through the California regulations. I’m an interior designer and the licensing for California and the rules for building a house is 10 times harder there is anywhere else in the USA FYI. Wishing you the best of luck and kudos on having the cleanest dairy barn I Ever Saw😊♥️🌈
Nobody can become financially successful over night. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking bold steps we need in other to reach our goals...
I remember as a little boy growing up down the road from Fresno State. My parents would take me over to see the dairy as a treat.. The students would give me a guided tour, and show me how the parlour worked. Somewhat automated for the Mid 80s but the facility was brand new then.
I get the impression with all types of modern dairy operations that it is about feeding, slurry and Muck removal, with milk as a by-product. That's not a criticism at all, it is an amazing example of logistical problem solving. It would do credit to a modern military operation. Well done - from OZ.
Hats off, very very impressive and the most amazing thing is cows diet.cotton seeds are pure cream and very very strong diet.sorghum silage is way more power ful diet than wheat and corn silages.2400 cows and same acres of land to grow food for them.really amazed and wish these people more luck.

It's whtever agricultural waste is produced nearby that is used, because the cost of transportation for any big distance would make it uneconomical. Cool video. We are in Hawaii, we probably drink their milk. Hawaii has no Dairy Farms anymore, too many cry babies crying about the smell and pollution that they say the cows produce. You all think Hawaii is Paradise, think again. Aloha Jan thanks, brother 🤙🏼
Its farms like this that have ruined the price of milk for smaller farmers. In the long run they have hurt themselves because the price for milk is so low the only way to make money is with huge volume which in turn drives down the price of the product. A vicious circle.
Hi, Did you ask the guy, that why Jersey cow and not Holstein cows? And what was the milk average? Thanks for doing this farm visit. I really appreciate for sharing.
