I did this trail a few years ago. It was a lot of fun. The ledges are not very steep and are pretty wide. It wasn't very technical and can be done on a stock jeep.
One of our favorites. Not difficult, but a great trip from Central City to St Marys Glacier. My wife even came over and watched you video. Great video. Was wondering if you could still see the pickup that rolled on to the south of Little Echo Lake. It was just a ball of metal. Glad the mailbox is still there. Before 9 11 there as a box there for notes, and even back then you had to add a rock to the area. Thanks a lot for the memories.
This was out go to trail for a quick trip from Denver. It was fun either direction. The old pines on the south are fun to explore and the north side has great views. The rock shelter overlooking Loc Lomond where everyone adds a few rocks to the structure, but I don’t think the mailbox was there? There was also a completely rolled up pickup on the left side of Little Echo Lake that had rolled down there about 25 years ago. It was there all the time we drove the road. thanks for the memories. We haven’t been in there since we loft Colorado in 2010.
It is one of our favorite trails so close to Denver as well. Hearing people were using their 4wd vehicles to get out to these spots back in the old days always brings a smile, thanks for sharing your memories.
Did the north leg and then my 2023 Wrangler 392 had a “SERVICE 4WD” issue so aborted after the parking area for James Peak. It’s spectacular. Will try to do the whole trail again soon.
I moved to Colorado in 1992.Rode my dirtbike up there many times. So that mailbox has been up there since the early nineties. Not there as a 9/11 memorial. But if that brings back memories of 9/11 thats fine. Its a worthwhile trip for sure. Very beautiful area and views.
I hiked St. Mary’s Glacier to the base of James Peak in July of’23. I would love to do this drive. I only have about 9” of clearance on the 3rd member of my rear end. Hopefully that’s enough.
If you have more questions, head over to our website and ask them there. On that webpage, which you can find the link in the video description above, we have a ton of details about the trails and the ability to ask the people who drive the trail regularly.
@trailsoffroad loved this trail! The views were beautiful, and we parked and did the short out-&-back hike with our dog. You mentioned above this trail is closed all but 3 months, which months are those? I know September is one of them
How long did it take to do the entire trail? I'm headed to Colorado Springs in early Sept, is this something close to there? I have a Chevy Silverado ZR2, it sounds like it can handle this trail.
It will take you about 3 hours to complete this trail. If you are looking for the full trail guide and many more trails, check out our website or apps. It's no joke. In 1984 I was in a roll over off Gold Camp Road near Victor CO. That was a long time ago and I still have PTSD, though I still go off roading. My wife who was also in the accident won't go off road at all. We free fell for 80 to 100 ft is what the police report said. Then flipped end over end, then rolled. At some point I was thrown out and knocked out. Anyway, 4 people and we all survived somehow. Driver two bones in arm broke, passenger cuts and bruises, me 14 inch laceration of back to kidney with 2 surgeries, cut ear, arm, leg, and head, and severe concussion; wife 8 broken ribs, broken sternum, 3 broken vertebrae, punctured lung, 4 teeth knocked out. Be careful with those ledges!
I forgot to say I did the Loch Lomond trail this week in a stock 4Runner TRD Off Road. It was rough but I felt safe. I'd say a total of maybe 100 yards or less of drop offs on one side. Otherwise mostly in the woods. I'd recommend it with a high clearance 4wheel and go slow, but not with an average stock cross-over.
That is a crazy story. Glad to hear you guys are alive to tell the tale. Sometimes people arent so lucky. Thanks for posting your story. It is always a good reminder of what can happen to anyone at anytime in this activity.
Didn't look like there was a lot of shelf roads? I'm trying to find some trails with little to no shelf roads for my wife and daughters but it is hard to come across this any information on this.
Thanks for watching. You will find all of this information and more on our website or apps. We have fully curated offroad trail guides all across the nation!
Those Jeeps look like they ride pretty good. I've been an off-road guy for years (dirt bikes and SxSs), but I'm thinking about getting back into a Jeep. Is the ride in these modern Jeeps like riding in a paint shaker or is it tolerable? I like the idea of being able to make a loop without always having to head back to the trailer. Thanks.
Depending on how you build our Jeep, they can ride super smooth even while off-road. It is important to do your homework first so you don't have to do it a 2nd time.

See our other comment on Chicken, but we can't recommend traveling alone due to the risk that comes with it. Off-roading is inherently dangerous in nature.. But there is a lot of ways to find people that want to do the trails. Facebook might be the easiest. We have found a quick post on Facebook in local groups almost always gets someone wanting to do the trail. I hope you have fun, let us know how it goes.

We totally agree! Its a great beginner trail that provides a bit of challenge and some amazing views. Thanks for watching!
I love that you drop constant reminders to avoid widening the trail.
The trail braiding up there is getting pretty bad. We'd hate to have the FS shut this down due to not staying the trail. Thanks for watching!
This is one of my favorites in the Front Range. It's a must-do trail for sure.
It's one of our favorite Front Range trails. Thanks for watching!
Ive always approached from the south east side at Hilltop Rd.

Wow. That place looks just amazing. Never heard of that trail but now I will putting on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing this wonderful trail 👍🤘
You totally should. Post some pics up on a trail review if you get the chance to head up there!

Awesome to hear - glad you had a great time. It is open from July to October. Thanks for watching!
Love this trail!! We do have a few battle scars though, but well worth it😊
what happened?
Just skids and sliders, nothing to bad😊
Those are just signs of having fun
Wow, I'd love to see the views from that trail in person!
Come on out Cory! We'd love to go wheel with you in CO.
Awesome trail, kick a** music!
Thanks for watching! This trail is one of our favorites in the Front Range for sure!
I’m going to check it out this weekend
Good choice! Its a must do trail in the Denver area.
I did this in my Expedition around 2012
It's such a stunning trail :)

That's beautiful
Thanks for watching!
Wow that was great. Thanks. Were you on 353 the whole time or venture onto anything else in the video?
Thanks for watching! Just 353 down to St. Marys, then up to Loch Lomond at the end.
Awesome scenery, for sure. However, will need to carry a self-administer AED for the shelf road sections, LOL.
Luckily, this one isn't too bad compared to some of the other trails in CO! Thanks for watching!
@@Trailsoffroad I am a sweaty-handed wimp when it comes to navigating shelf roads, which I usually avoid.

amazing video!
Turns out the dude flying the drone knows a thing or two about capturing bangers
Great video!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Legit question but do you think 11 inches of ground clearance is enough for this kind of overlanding?
On some trails that will be fine, others it won't be enough. It would be best to go to our website and review the trail details before attempting.
@@Trailsoffroad thank you! I will visit!
Is it closed currently trying to go this weekend
The best place to get this answer is on our website. If you looking in the video description above, you will see a link to the trail page.
Hi! I'm a first time jeep guy.. Is this a relatively easy trail with a vehicle that's got a 2.5 inch lift with 33 inch tires ?? Can you camp up there?

not a great spot if there is weather in the forecast. ask me how i know.
I'm planning on heading to Colorado this spring, is this trail doable in April/June?

Can I do this on a 24 stock tacoma trd offroad? Looking for a noob offroad trail.

the truck can do it, the variable is the driver.
How do you get waypoints on your CarPlay app?
Unfortunately, we can't display waypoint information in CarPlay. There is too much text to display and it's a restriction from Apple.
Those are bristle cone pines. Perhaps near 1000 years old.
That is awesome to know. Thanks for the info!
Okay to do this trail solo, 1 vehicle?

Fabulous! Is the trail wide enough for a Ford Raptor?
We have these kind of details and more on our website. You can find the link to it in the description above.
nothing is wide enough for a raaaaptor.
Can you hike it
you can hike just about anything in the US. It is the ultimate outdoor freedom.
😂 if I’m about to visit Colorado . You think it’s easy enough to do in a rental without tearing up anything . “Pick up truck “
Depends on how much insurance you opt in for...ha! For more details, check out the full trail guide www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/351-kingston-peak
