Hey Tim! This is a whole new creative outlet for me! All I can say (which is highly unusual for me) is "WOW! I'm in!" I've just replaced my second and on some my third bottles of alcohol inks that I'm using on my metal work. Thank you so much for those... I just don't know where I would be without access to all of the brilliant colors that you have created. You, my friend, are my Rock Star!Rock On~~~~

yes...I think that pad must be really dry...and a real drag since I bought it new. Notice on this video how much moisture there is? Do these things have a 'sell by' date like the supermarket? After awhile, even unopened, do they 'go bad?

We use manilla tags a lot, but you should be able to use most any type of cardstock. It is the nature of any cardstock that once you wet it, it makes it look distorted or distressed. If you are saying that your stamping is distored after you try these techniques, make sure the cardstock is completely dry before you stamp an image on it. Hope that helps.

I bought 3 distress inks today for the first time I have never done anything with stamps. Lucky for me two of them are the ones you used for the non rinkled one, lucky because It's beautiful:) Anyway the stamps I was able to get where really boring I wish I could get something like what you use here, it's so perfect. Thank you for making this video I had no idea how to use it and it makes me glad I bought it:)

I recently purchased my first Ranger distress ink from my local Michael's craft store. In the demos I've seen here on UA-cam, the ink looks glossy and 'juicey' when the stamps are inked up. When I ink up my stamps, I can barely see the ink on stamp at all and the stamped image is very light on the paper. Do I have lousey technique or is the inkpad dry or defective?

Yes, it is normal that it will distort the paper some. You can try to iron it. The manilla is coated, so it is a little more durable after it gets wet.

    Hi Tim,
I noticed in some of your more recent videos that you seem to have adhered your nonstick craft sheet to a piece of plywood or something, so that it stays flat and you can move it around easily. How did you attach it? Could I use Scor-tape, or would that melt underneath when I use my heat tool during projects? Thank you!

Hey Tim! Thanks for sharing these lovely techniques...I just bought some Distress Inks and used them on 2-3 types of paper but when I stamp with them, the ink blots and doesn't give a sharp image! Is there some special kind of paper to be used with these inks? Also wanted to know if I can use them for embossing with clear embossing powders on any kind of paper?

Hi i recently went to america on holiday and visited a michaels craft store. I purchased the tea dye distress ink pad by tim holtz.
However when i got back home 1 day later
I found it was nowhere near as wet as your pad and i was wondering is there something i can put on it to
    A) soften the pad
    B) make it more wet
I cant really go back to the usa to return it
And i was wondering if i hould put water on it. Like 2-3 sprays or not
I would really appreciate it if you could answer my question

Also the distress inks react with water in a way that regular water based inks do not by wicking out and creating awesome effects, also if you toss some water droplets on after distressing it lightens the spot where water is for another cool effect :)

@annperper Hi again, A kneaded eraser is a very soft eraser, it comes in a square but when you get it you can roll it into a ball and rub it over a clear stamp before you ink it up. Makes for crisp images. You can get them at craft stores, on ebay and at stationery stores

In Adult Colouring, can you do this for a background? It'll curl my coloured picture, but with heat, will it straighten out the whole pic again? Also, will the heat change my coloured pencil colours? GREAT VIDEO! Love your videos. So enjoy watching them. I bought some of the spray inks but don't know how to use them for my backgrounds. Hopefully there's a video on how to use them this way...

Tim, what kind of iron (with no holes) are you using, & where do I get one? Also, when your pic is totally dry & you're finished, can I still spray my KRYLON permanent fixative over it all, including the Distress inked background?

  • @ranger_ink

The Distress Inks are not permanent once dried. Subsequent layers of something wet would cause a reaction.

Love these ideas. The only issue I have with Distress Inks is that the stamp pads are NEVER as wet as they are in this video. I don't know if it's because they don't move quickly through our local arts and crafts shops, but it kind of stinks. I'll definitely try these techniques out, though!

    • @bonniejensen9019

I am sending an email also to ask a couple of questions about re-inkers. Thanks for being so inspirational!

@kerrikins59 If you buy a kneaded eraser and run it across your acrylic stamp before adding distress ink it works much better. Distress works best on rubber stamps or sticky acrylic stamps (like basic grey stamps) but if you have a kneaded eraser they generally give a nice stamp after that :D

sounds to me like the inkpad is dry. unless - did you press down the stamp a lot all over pad or only do it once? i'm working on my technique at stamping and sometimes get missed areas on my stamps or even light color since i seem not to pat the pad all over the stamp a lot... so. well. it could be either LOL didn't help, huh? lol
