- Launched using a portable catapult and captured by a hook when its mission is over, the Scan Eagle is 40 pounds of amazing aircraft. The plane and its payloads are tested at a Navy Research Lab in China Lake.
Flying all day on just a little gas and remotely controlled by mouse clicks, the unmanned aerial vehicle returns live video that helps keep Navy and Marine units safe in the field.
“It keeps the human away from the danger,” says T.J. Zacman, an aircraft engineer. “You can fly down to 1,000 feet and not worry about getting shot down.”

Drop the music. I could barely hear the interviewees.
Futaba T9C transmitter on the desk there! :-)
Amazing !
I have one of these, where I can find that catapult?
I have the same Futaba T9C radio back in 2010. I bet those UAVs have Desert Aircraft engines just like most of my large scale model airplanes. Desert Aircraft sell engines with Walbro carburators for hobbyists. They have the same engines fitted with fuel injection system (for higher altitude) that they only sell to the military.
Yeah, seems we are doing something wrong ... we should build "the new military generation UAV´s". New feature would be 4K video ... We sell each UAV for only $ 560,385! Really cheap for military stuff!
Amazing bird indeed
Whats the bind procedure for one of these bad bois?
lmao
very good ^Q^
That cool to make hobby rc and the flightime so long
It's got it's work cut out with consumer grade Drones (Mavic 3.). I think where this thing has the edge is that it can stay airborne for the entire battle monitoring that battle and providing encrypted communications relay with battle controllers. It doesn't really matter if it gets shot down because apart from the software, the hardware would not be protected technology.
he looks like an rc guy lol
He is such a guy!
Indeed
Philippines have 5 brand new units of these all donated by u.s.a
Propulsion System....???
Turbine Engine Or Small Piston Engine ??
it has a piston engine with one cylinder.
2:11 man is that really a ribbon cable lol accidentally cut it
Windows XP, niiiiiiice 👌
What i should do in college to be able to make this
watching this as my country recently got few of these from usa to check on what china's doing on spratly islands
You don't need a UAV to tell you that it's nothing good.
Wingman4l7 you need an UAV to stay up to date, or do you like to go blind wothout getting any information?
Any plans for this Plane to make it into RC Plane????
LOL It already is.
Variant of the original scaneagle. Years ago when myself and very few guys in the US were in garages building the worlds first real "Drones" the scaneagle guys were in Moro Oregon area testing the original scaneagle in their garage. Eventually they sold like 2000 units to the military puting them on the map despite the first test of the system to be for scanning Tuna at sea. after successful military uses the group got bought out by Insitu / boeing for like 300 Million. A tried and true UAS for sure. It is very over priced though. I say this because for a bit I was a consultant to VT Group etc and I've been all up in the system and in this day and age a guy can build a pretty capable DIY version for near nothing...
For minutes I thought this video is from 1900s because of that guys shirt
Everything but the price tag.
I want such a drone - to hunt chemtrail sprayer
No amount of drones will ever find a “chemtrail sprayer”
If its shot down nobody dies.
But the enemy takes the technology.
What technology? The reason the US and others had these isn't because they were more advanced but because their industrial complex was able to support the production of high tech imaging sensors, microchips etc which most US enemies have difficulty due to sanctions
How many nerf balls does it fire per minute?
It should be easy to replicate this airfoil and fuselage to build a scaled down model that runs iNAV :)
it will be 850g of amazing aircraft LOL
I found the airfoil. The rest shouldn't be too bad. Could make it light with foam, or maybe 3d print it.
My luck with 3d printed planes is if I get 4 flights out of them before they break I am lucky. I think foam, carbon fiber and nylon
@@jerrynormandin2892 can you share the airfoil?
God Damn mosquitos are back again sarge
But does it run I-NAV.. lol
haha\ probably misson planner
Ok Good night
the landing is quite expensive.
HUH? Why is it expensive?
@@jessejames5825 if in landing the wings at hit by the rod this can cause collateral damage to the UAV so you have to buy another one for billion dollars then.
Iran took an Scan Eagle from the US trophy
Usa 1
The limit is 250 grams, please.
Uav licence brings that up to 55 pounds
These carry payloads and we just gave the taliban around 80 of them.
The payloads are mainly camera equipment, no explosives. But yeah the taliban probably shouldn't have them.
@@user-tf4lk4fm7i eagle scans can carry a 35lb payload, low yield explosive.
Essentially it is is suicide drone.
Vant
LOL "the plane has special gimbal ... high resolution camera..." (in 2015 HD were meant) in 2020 you can buy this for 500 bugs from a china company called ... eh ... u know who is meant ...
Ngl. Music is way tooloud. Can barely make out wtf they saying
Why such crap music?
shitty gimbal guys
That's called chicken shoot warfare. Be a man, fight like one.
In fairness thats not the point of this, its for reckon to give vital intel to ground teams which will save lives. It would pretty moronic to just waltz up to the enemy without important information which can be obtained for basically free with this drone.
