I would like it if you played more Dragon Quest Monsters, no matter which version. But for me it's alway nice to see people getting into Dragon Quest.

This was one of my first video games, and first monster taming game. It is simple, challenging but charming. One of the few games I actually replay every couple of years, using different monsters.

I grew up with no one to play this with. It's my #1 game growing up and some sprites from this are tattoo'd to my arm. I love the exposure you're giving it!
Dude get a grizzly as soon as you can breed a beast and a demon, they ha e insane Atk growth. This game was my childhood even more than Pokémon. It got me into monster catching games. The music alone bring me back to the 90s.

Definitely one of my favourite monster taming games from my childhood. I played a ton if this, Pokémon, digimon world and monster rancher.

Never heard of you, just started watching the video. Instantly followed for talking about DQM, the forgotten child of the monster taming genre, and one that consistently holds up well no matter how much time passes by.
Absolutely holds up! One of my favorite games of all time. Soooooo nostalgic. Has so much more depth than people realize at first glance. Would absolutely love it if you did a let’s play on this!
Dragon Warrior Monsters was and still is one of my favorite Gameboy games to ever exist.

Charge makes the monsters use offensive spells, mixed will have them use various moves like attacks, status spells, heal, etc. Cautious has the monster focus on healing.
In tournaments you cannot give specific commands.
It's worth nothing this affects your monsters personality (somehow) but typically it is better to use charge (attack skills or autos) / mixed (debuff or buff skills) / cautious (heal/revives) out in the overworld instead of only giving command skills. This can eventually lead to extra effects like critical chance if you normally use the "charge" function" or thing like ... is it a mana free heal if you use cautious a lot? Something like that.
There are extra effects and this lets you also predict what your monsters will use in the arena since you cant specifically command them there anyway.
There are charts out there that you can find up that show how different commands impact your monsters' personalities. As a general rule, though, your monster gets more personality per command at low levels, and trying to balance them early on means they can acquire the coveted "Hotblooded" personality, which gives bonuses to everything, IIRC.
I wished I had this game for the GBC! All I had was Pokémon Blue...😅
I loved this game so much back then. Have always meant to come back and play it again.
While the GBC games still holds up (granted you know how to navigate RPGs of its time), if you want to get a better idea of how DQM Dark Prince is gonna be like, I'd recommend you check out the DQM Joker games on the DS.
While both hold up really well, Joker 2 aged a LOT better, and I'd recommend it to anyone checking out the Monsters subseries for the first time.

I still have memories of dueling with my best friend in Joker 2.
Yes a lot of the Dragon Quest Monsters MCs are either party members or key characters from the mainline DQ games. The exception being the Joker games. In Terry's case here, he is a party member from DQ6.
PLEEAASE do a full series of this! This is one of my all time favorite games, and there is not a lot of good content on it... Even back when I was all about Pokemon, this was always close to beating Red/Blue for my top spot
I liked all the DQ Monter games, the Joker games were really fun and I loved cooking monsters together to make new ones.
Yeah the Joker games were extremely good. I also like that Dark Prince will play more like the Joker games rather than the GameBoy DQM games.
This game is the best. I lost half the motion in my left elbow in a freak accident to this game when 5. I still love it the most too. ❤
Not allowed to do commands in the tournaments, you need to train their personalities by not using direct commands and then they will tend to pick good moves in the tournaments. Charge will allways attack, mixed will try and use support moves, and defend will either block or heal.

Me and my twin brother grew up with this game. I love everything about it. We had no idea what we were doing but got totally sucked into the breeding mechanic and would spend hours making new monsters.

Man i was hooked on Dragon Warrior monster, it hooked me more than pokemon...i can still remeber playing it back in 2013 like crazy.
I love these games so much as a kid. Honestly the second game was a little bit better because the key system allowed you to continuously put keys in the door in order to travel to randomly procedure generated worlds. The fact that you can just keep playing and playing indefinitely as a kid was mind blowing🎉
Random tip: the first two games the monsters had personalities which you could change through books and personalities determined how they would fight on their own in tournaments without guidance
Played this for the first time in the summer. Incredible time, wish I grew up playing it
I remember buying this abroad on the original Game Boy as a kid. However, the cart I got was faulty and made it impossible to save so I had these seeeeriously long sessions where I would just see how far I could go and try to catch new monsters each time.
Please continue with this! Such a good game and there’s not enough content on it on UA-cam - trying to add some myself but it’s not coming along quickly

Monsters Joker is a great game. Joker 2 is even better.

Ya had this back when I was a wee lad somehow.i think I remember it kind of got stolen. You know a friend ask for the game than you never meet that friend again. Come on switch put this on the gameboy emulator thing. Give them meat and kick there full tummy lol
yeah, you're not allowed to command in tournaments. If you want your healer to heal, you have to set them on "cautious." This game is really obtuse sometimes lmao
also, if you go in the options and set the text speed to a higher amount, the battles with go a lot faster

DQM aged really well. More so DQM 2, even the first one is still really good. One of my favorite games of all time.
Terry from this game reminds me of terry from dq6. As a kid I got into dq, from the 6th game on ds. Only because of the Amira toriyama art style 😂

You gotta put your healer on Cautious for best effect. Mixed is mixed skills, they will try to buff and support more. Charge is aggressive skills and attacks, CAutious is some buffs and healing. "No sp sk" Means don't use special skills. That is bad to pick in the tournament. xD
Yea sorry its been so long and I neverused healer before LOL when I played I legit just used 3 hard attackers lmao

Unpopular take: The DQM series has always been the better Pokemon, I've played every single one and enjoyed the hell out of all of them
both siblings are from DQ6 which also had monster recruitment to a lesser extent even though 5s was more detailed
The tournaments restrict you to only use auto attacks. Early game lets you get away with spamming basic attacks. Further in, you are expected to make good use of the convoluted breeding and fusion system so you have to invest in high Ranks to make progress. I like this system because just cuz it uses auto attacks, it doesn't make it brainless.
I never got to play the first one so this will be interesting. The only game ive really played was the second one and that was one of my favorite games ever

Ed, you need to at least play joker and joker 2 for the ds when you get a chance, and the remakes are so fun I’m playing them on a modded 3ds

I started this game recently and love it alot. I don't love the command system though. It reminds me of lunar silver star story where I wish I could just manually choose command or toggle auto.

Ive been trying to find this game forever. Played it a lot as a kid and remember it was "dragon ...." Found dragon quest, but wasnt it. Prefer the monster battle/fusion aspect of this one 🎉🎉

Dragon warrior monsters 1-2 are amazing and play great in todays gaming landscape.

Yeah not being able to see your monsters or even party members in rpgs is what kept me away most old school rpgs. This includes the older DQ games except 7-9 & 11 of course.
