That intro was one of the most gutwrenching statements of intent ever at the time. It was Bioware telling you "We're going to tear out your heart and stamp on it, and you'll love every second."
Also, if I remember rightly, Anderson was a Rear Admiral, while Hackett was a Fleet Admiral. So yeah, Hackett's orders would supercede Anderson's.

Oh! Hey! I am in this game!
To explain... the programmers at Bioware slipped the names of people they new into the game. NPC names, names mentioned at the bottom of messages to other people, names in the background... anywhere they needed random names, they often used people they knew. I am an acquaintance of many of the people who started the company.

When Mass Effect 3 was being released, Bioware did all sorts of in-universe promotion for the game, but also revealed some off-screen deaths in the process. Various side characters including Emily Wong were killed when Earth was invaded.
Since Ashley died on Virmire, her entire family was killed too, as her family was still blacklisted so the Alliance didn't help them.

@@Cheepchipsable Her family was blacklisted because her grandfather surrendered in the war, it's literally the whole reason Ashley is the way she is in the first game. The Alliance refused to put her on assignments matching her skillset, resulting in her having no experience with aliens, and Shepard being the first superior to treat her seriously.
If Ashley dies, the Alliance fully sweeps her family under the rug as she was the only one actively trying to repair her family name.

He will explain later in the game, but huge props to commanding officers like Admiral Hackett and Dad-miral Anderson. They're doing everything possible to give them a fighting chance despite all the odds.
Hackett was attempting to defend against the initial Reaper invasion.
Against the Reapers? Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. They were gone in the first minutes of the Reapers entering the Sol system.
RIP the Alliance Second and Fourth Fleet.
The survivors of the First, Third and Fifth fleet were beaten back and forced to retreat to safety when the Reapers attacked Arcturus Station and then proceeded to Earth. Hackett had to sacrifice many to cover their retreat when he saw that they were being demolished. So when Anderson questioned why they hadn't heard from Admiral Hackett, it was because he was already trying to get as many of his surviving ships to safety ASAP. The warning from Arcturus reached the Fourth fleet barely but not in time to Earth. The entire Alliance Second Fleet fell but managed to warn, even if it was a few minutes, the Fourth fleet which was directly defending Luna base and Earth itself. But as seen in the intro, they were massacred within minutes.
Now it's time to avenge them and bring back every fleet you can.

22:45 Funny thing about the extraction battle: it is actually tied to Shepard running out of ammo. If people use powers to kill the enemies and conserve ammo they accidentily make things harder because more enemies will spawn. I've seen someone playing as an Adept dragging out this battle to more than 15 minutes because he used only his powers to kill the cannibals - was pretty funny hearing him complain about how unfair this battle is and how someone like a Soldier who rely on weapons alone should ever be able to beat the encounter.
I have to admit that this was the original game though, I don't know if it is still the case with the legendary edition.
Regarding weight capacity - this directly affects the recharge speed of your powers. The range is from -200 % to +200 % (with -200 % being the slowest and +200 % the fastest). If you plan on relying on your powers it is extremely important that you have a fast recharge speed.
The weight is determined by the weapons you carry. For that reason I highly recommend to carry no more than 2 weapons.
Given that you're an infiltrator you will already suffer from a high weight considering that sniper rifles are among the heaviest weapons in the game.
If you also take a shotgun (the second most heavy weapons) for example you'll have trouble to keep the recharge speed at an acceptable level. Assault rifles are a jack of all trades category - some are very heavy and deal a lot of damage per shot at a low rate of fire while others are much lighter and deal low damage per shot at a high rate of fire, heavy pistols have medium weight and are good for crushing armor and HP but are terrible against barriers and shields and last but not least submachine guns don't weigh much and are great at ripping through shields and barriers but are not effective against armor.
It should be mentioned that squadmates are not affected by weight at all which means you can give them whatever weapon you want without affecting their power recharge speed. It also means that upgrading their weapons with ultralight material upgrades is pointless.
37:00 Only for you - if it affects the squad it is mentioned in the description. With options like this it really depends on your playstyle - do you want to primarily deal damage with your sniper rifle or are you planning to blow everything up with grenades or burn enemies to a crisp with incinerate? Power duration is also good for incinerate if you picked up the damage over time effect btw - it increases the damage of the dot.
56:30 - Well - you could have leveled her right in that moment. How is it that most people simply forget to level them up when getting new squadmates I wonder.
1:03:10 That's not how this works - picking up a newe weapons is in ME2, not in ME1. It is not a singular piece of equipment, it unlocks the weapon for every squad member that can use it. If you have a look at the weapon select screen at 1:03:19 you'll notice that there are cursers left and right of the weapon picture - this is how you cycle through the available weapons in that category. In this case you can only choose to either completely unequip the weapon category (as you did by accident when rotating Shepards heavy pistol to 0/1). The number below the picture shows how many different weapons you have in a certain weapon category and which one is equipped - in this case it is 1/1 because you only have 1 type of submachine guns and Liara has it equipped. If you pick up another submachine gun (a locust for example) this would change to 1/2 if Liara has the Shuriken equipped or 2/2 if she has the Locust equipped.

      @Schone23666 Рік тому

Also be on the lookout for weapon mods and experiment with them. The piercing mods in particular will definitely help against enemies in cover and armored targets.
As you acquire more weapons to choose from, try experimenting with them at the Spectre shooting range, and try different weapon combinations to see how they effect your cooldown. Good rule of thumb is to take one rapid fire weapon and one slower firing but heavy hitting weapon to deal with different threats.

One word of warning...there are skills you can choose which actually lengthen the time it takes for Powers to recharge. It depends on play style, really.
James' Foucault Current shields slow power use - much like weighing yourself down with a lot of weapons - but he counters that by having ridiculously powerful shields, turning him into a tank. Some people like to send him out to absorb all the damage, while they sit back and use powers. So he has that option available. I usually focus on his grenades and Carnage, going for maximum radius so he knock everybody down, preventing them from even attacking.
And Shepard can carry five weapons and mow down everything in your way instead of using powers, if you're the type to forget that you even _have_ powers.
ME3's combat system is fairly flexible. Andromeda's is even more so, doing away with traditional classes entirely.

Just so you know, Liera, this is a relatively lighthearted episode. I also follow another girl playing ME: LE for the first time. She's at the middle of ME3, and had to pause last playthrough to compose herself. It has been brutal for her. I myself am not overly emotional about video game tragedies, and still choked up on occasion during this game. Keep the kleenexes at the ready.
Weapons use in this game: as you noticed, you can use any weapon you have available, no longer limited by class. But the greater number of weapons, the greater the weight. And that affects the cooldown period for your powers. It's a balancing act between powers and weapons.
You can switch weapons in the weapons bench, and add any mods you have discovered. Every weapon has space for two mods.
My favorite combination is an assault rifle with telescopic sights. It works as a poor man's sniper rifle, and work very well for close quarters combat. My backup is usually a pistol (due to weight. Sometimes is a SMG), to be used when the rifle is, for some reason, unavailable.
Cerberus centurions with shields might be a problem for infiltrators. Using Cloak is effective, but you might want to try to aim for the ankle or the visor slits. Failing that, try to have a squadmate with Singularity or Pull.
Spoilery advice: for God's sake, treat Kaiden as a valued ally and friend. For starters, he's got a point. After two years presumed dead, you show up allied to a terrorist organization. Immagine a war hero going AWOL for so long only to show up working with Al Qaeda. How betrayed would you feel?

@@LieraPlays Now I'm in an interesting position.
First off, after reviewing this post below, I find it terribly pompous, but I can't improve the language and still give the proper message. Which is fitting. The core of the Shepard/ Kaidan relationship right now is imperfect communication.
Also, happy Hollidays, before anything else. Happy X-Mas (or Hanukah, kwazaa, whatever holiday you observe, at this date and in the future) and a great 2023.
Now, to the business at hand.
I approach my posts to first time players as if I were a fellow gamer discussing a game we're both playing, more or less at the same time. Fellow players exchanging tips, cooperating to get a better game for us both.
But the fact remains that, having finished the game already, I do know a little more than I should to offer careless advice that might spoil your experience.
I´ll say this instead: the relationship between Shepard and Kaidan is not one of equals. For good or bad, Shepard saw and did things that go beyond Kaidan's formidable experience (he was, after all, one of the original squadmates. That has to count).
It's up to Shepard to be, for the lack of a better term, the adult in the relationship. Have the patience for him to come around... eventualy. Hell, it can't be worse than playing referee for the Jack/ Miranda feud, can it? Can it? 😕
Harsh words, ingame and in real life, have consequences. I suggest that you be judicious in your treatment of an old friend that might be falling short, but is still trying.

The biggest problem I've had with Kaiden's dialogue, is that it just doesn't fit him. It's very obvious the dialogue was written with Ashley in mind, and he became an afterthought. To be so continually suspicious of Shepard, even though he was basically ride or die in ME1, just doesn't fit him. I wish they had given him different lines. That haunting piano theme softly lilting above the chaos and destruction. They did a really good job with this one. You're in for a hell of a ride.

Helpful clue, do the Horizon mission first, it is absolutely essential. Side missions will disappear if you do the priority missions before them, some characters will not be available to talk to/interact with. Priority Tuchanka is an example, make sure to do any and all side missions before embarking on this. All of the survivors from ME2 will be available to talk to/interact with, unless you skip side missions in favour of priority missions.

And so it begins. One thing I will say about this game specifically, besides certain story beats, they absolutely nailed the soundtrack at certain points. As far as skill points are concerned, since you have all the DLC, you will get more than enough points to level up almost all of your skills by the time you reach the level cap. Not to spoil too much, but as far as the romances are concerned, be careful how you talk to party members. Since there are only top and bottom options and no neutral, you might end up in a romance you don't want, if you're not careful.
As for upgrades and equipping weapons, once you pick up a weapon that you find or buy from shops you and your party members can equip them at a weapon bench. You don't need duplicates of a weapon for every party member who wants to use them. Same with the upgrades. One copy of one type of upgrade is enough for everyone to equip them.

No spoilers. The changes to story elements based on actions in previous games is a really cool part of this game. My first play through I just happened to do things in such a way to get a certain outcome of a certain mission that was amazing (if you know, you know); I played through a second time, assuming I would be able to get that same end result having made only moderately different changes up to that point. Little did I know that those moderately different changes COMPLETELY changed the ending of that mission, and my ending mortified me to the point of stopping the playthrough, going back to ME1 and re-doing the entire thing to get it right.

Hey there's Vega. long time no see XD
    >little technical advice
When a character is starting to speak, slow down because the game won't wait and if a decisive point is not far away, it will happily cut a conversation as soon as you reach it to play another line deemed more "relevant". If you always rush you run the risk to interrupt a lot of conversations or banter through the game.
You'll find that ME3, in general, pushes the player to go faster than the other games and most of the time it is not justified other than by the need to add a little more drama. You'll have companions shouting "we need to go faster", "over here!", "We're loosing time!"... ignore all that, that's just noise....
Do your own thing and if you need time, just take it... unless someone/thing is actively shooting at you, of course :D
    >No ammo
You could also get rid of the husk by using one of your powers, like incinerate, but heavy melee is fine although a bit odd... for a sniper :D
In this "last stand" fight scenario with Anderson before the Normandy arrives there's limited ammo because the game expects you to use your powers instead of your guns.
    >"Anderson is no longer"
OMG! You're even more depressing than the game itself (and it is depressing enough as it is) :D No big spoiler to say that you'll hear from him again... so don't buy his coffin just yet... The guy may be on the old side but he's far to be done.
That said it's a good thing to keep this outlook; you'll be hit less hard in the guts when the real bad things will start to happen.
    >"Do his orders supersedes Anderson's?"
Hackett has always ranked higher than Anderson. Currently he's the highest ranking officer commanding the whole of the Alliance forces so yes, his orders supersede the orders of any other officer in the Alliance. The only entities that could countermand his orders were the Alliance Council and the Alliance Parliament, but they were both obliterated in the first Reapers push, so he's the leader of all that remains of the human military. And Udina is the leader of all that remains of human political power (gasp!).
    >"Considering Paragon lost..."
There are some character/story problems between Paragon Lost and ME3 when it comes to Vega. He's not star struck like he appeared to be in Paragon Lost and that may be due to what he learned Shepard has been doing with the Collectors while he was busy in Paragon Lost. That knowledge gave him the feeling to have sacrificed a lot of people uselessly as Shepard took on the Collector all by herself anyway, not to say that he blames Shepard but he might be blaming himself even more. But still he regards Shepard highly enough to take cues from her when needed and although you could get the feeling from Paragon Lost that he could replace Shepard easily (I mean with all the crazy crap he's done there), you won't get the same feeling in ME3 where he's pretty much happy to follow orders; and maybe the fact that Shepard is not the absolutely flawless hero he thought gave him a slap down... Never meet your idols :D
He clearly still suffers from Paragon Lost events though. But it's not something he will easily talk about and as Shepard you're not even supposed to know his story, anyway. When he will give it to you it will be a very condensed version that may have some synchronicity problems with Paragon Lost (for example, according to Paragon Lost and ME3 he didn't get his N7 commendation the same way, but those are things easily ignored if you're not looking too close).
And he understands the need for the tough decision here. It's just that Earth invasion is a fresh wound and he needs to vent his frustration.
    >"Is Kaidan gonna be a problem?"
Right now, not for long. In the long term, we'll see. It actually depends on you. So it will be interesting...
If you don't like what the game automatically chose in your skills (or what you chose yourself) you'll have the occasion to reset everything and to redo it on the Normandy later (in the infirmary -- first reset is free, after that you'll have to pay).
    >Weight
Important because this is a mechanics that didn't exist in the other games. In ME3, all Shepard classes can use any weapon but each weapon has a weight. The total weight of weapons you take with you determines how frequently you can use your powers (like tactical cloak). When you equip your character you'll see a bar that goes from -200% to 200% with 100% being the average. It's self explanatory, at 200% your powers regenerate twice faster.
There are ways to decrease a weapon weight by upgrading it (cost money) but you can also increase your weight capacity via skills so you can take more weapons or more powerful ones (and heavier -- your favorite, the Widow, is among the heaviest weapons in the game).
Weight only affects Shepard, not the companions. Their powers will refresh at the same speed whatever their loadout (although their refresh speed can be modified by the armor you make them wear and some of their skills)
    >"Is it just for me?"
Unless indicated otherwise, your skills are just for you. Companions generally have a top most skill that can apply to the whole squad (as long as they are in it).
    >Kaidan has reave
And you can to, if you get on his good side :D Every companion has one power that Shepard can gain access to as a bonus like in ME2. The path to it is not always straight forward though as unlike ME2, there are no loyalty missions here. You don't even know which power you can get from which companion or in which circumstances before it happens. I give you what power Kaidan can get you for free, but I won't tell you how to get it ;)
Note that you only need to gain a bonus power once. After that bonus powers you already unlocked will be available to all the characters you play with in ME3, whether in game or during character creation.
    >"I don't appreciate your judgement"
Thank God Ashley isn't there then. She's the one really holding a Cerberus grudge. Kaidan is actually the softer version. Meaning: after a while and a discussion he'll stop caring and bothering you with it.
    >"they need to be sniped, right now"
Seriously? You haven't seen Liara in a long time, right? She graduated "executioner", rank A++ :D
    >Shepard: "Under the circumstances, I think I can forgive you"
No kidding! Shepard is master at roles reversing apparently. Let's pretend that Liara is the one that should be blamed for something, why don't you?
I have the feeling the whole Garrus/Liara situation is going to get awkward fast :D
To be precise, I've never dated both Garrus and Liara so I don't know what will happen. but I'm curious to see lol
    >Shepard: "It's more than we had a minute ago"
Not if the device plans are for a Prothean toaster oven XD That would have been hilarious. As hilarious as a toothbrush saving the Normandy XD (you'll understand someday).
    >"She only has singularity"
Doing her skill tree would help but, like 80% of players, you forgot that she had one :D
    >"What happens with those guys?"
It's a glitch that was introduced with the legendary edition (don't remember it happening in the original). It happens from time to time when you use some powers like singularity, pull... When the power ends the guys fall on the ground and one or more may get stuck there. Very rarely it happens without using any power too. This is in the player's favor so I'm inclined to let it slide :D
    >Modding
Once you've found a mod, it can be applied to all relevant weapons. The scope you found for example can be applied to all SMGs in your squad at once, you don't need several of them. Mods come in five ranks from I to V. Each higher rank replace the previous one. Some can be found, some other must be bought.
The weight mod though is only useful to Shepard as weight is not an issue for companions so they gain nothing from it.
    >Things that works well against Cerberus Guardians (those with a physical shield):
Remove the shield with Pull (only one of your companions that you don't have yet has this power)
Shoot them with a weapon equipped with an armor piercing mod that will bypass the shield (you need to find the mod first)
Target the slit of the shield for maximum damage (should be easy for a sniper)
    >"You're feisty"
Says the girl who usually shoots every camera she can :D
    >Shepard: "Hello, this is Delta team"
Always gets me laughing that this is working. Cerberus happens to have a delta team that happens to be right where Shepard is? And they totally buy it? Sure, that's not weird at all :D If Kaidan was not worried enough that Shepard could be still working for Cerberus, that would be the moment to be.
    >"If they are husks"
TIM used reaper technology to create perfect obedient cannon fodder but that's all. Disruptor ammo won't be more efficient against them than it is against any other organic, it can potentially stun. Not shielded, Cerberus grunts are vulnerable to fire and cryo ammo.
    >"He's behind glass"
You can shoot people through solid objects but you need to install an armor piercing mod in your weapon first.
There is also a mod you can install, on sniper rifles only, to see through smoke (enemies behind the smoke screen will be highlighted when you aim). Keep an eye out for that. Only useful against Cerberus though. Reapers don't use smoke screens.
    >At the guy appearing beside TIM: "Who are you?"
An irritating clown, that's who he is -- at least to me. But we'll have the occasion to talk about him again.
    >Bailey: "Though it's Commander now"
Kaidan promoted twice, to Major. Anderson promoted to admiral, Bailey promoted to Commander, other people you know but haven't met yet also promoted ... Guess who wasn't promoted just once? I guess Captain Shepard wasn't sounding right :D
Well, this was a good start. But this is only the beginning. And first thing: getting some companions, because right now you're down to two, Liara and James.
But that's a story for the next episode...

The last stand in Vancouver has low ammo because the amount of ammo you have is the trigger for the cutscene to commence. If you don't shoot your weapons at all, the mission keeps going. I've tried it out - I sat there over an hour using nothing but powers. The cutscenes triggers roughly when you're down to less than two full clips' worth of ammo between the two of you.

A problem with Mass Effect 3 is it was also written in an attempt for new players to jump in, with the result being some character writing is thrown out the window.
If you romanced/rejected anyone in ME1, they are now reset back to "Friends, but can we be more?" since those characters are guaranteed to still be alive regardless of whether you played ME1. Since everyone in ME2 could get killed, the romances get the short hand of the stick in ME3, except for Garrus and Tali, since they're still a mainstay.
Essentially, it's easy to continue where you left off with Garrus, while you essentially have to treat the relationship with Liara as a reboot and work for it all over again.

First thing first... FINALLY got to ME3 :P
Now, it is hard to say from a vet of the game, going teeth grinding a bit, BUT it is her 1st time playing... For Liera, for a while well until 2nd mission, DO NOT BE AFRAID OF YOUR POWERS!!! First major mission, iirc, did not use any powers. Actually I thought she would, especially with cloak/ ammunition powers, BUT she was overwhelmed, and I empathize with it. With all that, her Shep did not die once so far... thus I can breathe.
Now for Liera, as you continue to understand the system, an important one, hinted for a class/powers with the abilities in ME2 (which you might miss due its mechanics), but there ia an achievement reward in this one. Once you get comfortable enough of the combat/movement mechanics in ME3, there is a very effective power mechanic involved called power combos, which is extremely helpful, especially in advanced level of playing. Probably spoiling writing that part, but not, thus learn what power combo means and once you get use to sniping in ME3 (and stealth melee) learn to use powers not just yourself, but squadmates as well.
BTW, love your secondary reactions throughout this video.
Hope you play this game more frequently than usual. ;)

For Guardian shields, snipers can have a field day with that visibility slit near the top. Failing that, you can use the Pull biotic power to yank the shields out of their hands. They're also vulnerable from the rear, especially if something behind them happens to explode.
And the defensive stance on the Vancouver docks is your only opportunity in the trilogy to assign points to Anderson. It doesn't matter too much, but it is cool if you think to check his abilities. Anybody that joins you mid-mission can also be updated immediately.

Shepard saved the galaxy from the Collectors and stopped another Reaper Invasion, yet Kaidan still doesn't believe Shepard, even when others are literally vouching for her.
And don't forget Kaidan and Shepard were friends for several years before the events of ME1, so him refusing to listen to Shepard at all is just bad.

@@willfanofmanyii3751 Kaiden did not work with Shepard prior to his posting to Normandy.
That said, something that Shepard says to the council applies to everyone else as well. "At some time you are going to have to take something I say on faith." Kaiden (and Ashley for that matter) should be more than willing to do this.
ffs femshep can literally say, in ME3, that Kaiden is her "brother". Were this accurate, during ME2 and the beginning of ME3, Kaiden should have been less hostile at the least.

friendly reminder, in the options you can turn on that your helmet is always off/always on/off in dialogs etc (and subtitels :P)
Dont rush the DLC missions, some of them are hard and long. Besides the one on horizion, this one is good to do early. Even you see enemys there you only encounter later, you get a....Big suprise.
and dont rush the main missions, some side quests disappear if you rush the main missions to fast.

While Anderson and Hackett are both admirals, Hackett has seniority. after the battle of the citadel in mass effect one, Hackett is made the head of the Alliance navy. Any orders he gives take priority over any other orders provided by other admirals.
Effectively Hackett is a Grand admiral / Admiral of the fleet, the rest are just regular admirals

I enjoy the thoughtfulness you put into editing such as moving your webcam when you feel it might be blocking important info :) just a side note: I think it's better if subtitles are left off. This is because as humans we naturally read ahead and sometimes it can ever so slightly prematurely spoil things for us especially in cutscenes. Just my two cents, hope you have fun!

I'd say focus on getting Black Widow rifle and fully spec into Cloak with your remaining points. Cloak early game is pretty powerful. Also, James' Fortification is more powerful than a Biotic Barrier or Synthetic shield. It's the strongest shield in the game so I would fully upgrade Fortification for him, so he becomes a tanky meatshield. That's just me, whatever you choose should work as well. :)
Edit: Also, sniper rifles can shoot through walls so you can shoot an enemy behind a wall or barrier.

Mass Effect 3 does have timed missions, but unlike the second game, said missions and events get closed off after certain story missions.
After "Priority Tuchanka", most available side missions and quests will be lost, so don't forget those. Some available side missions and quests can be started early, but aren't able to be completed until later on in the game.
