@@rpmfla We're also aware that most spoilers DO come from a good place; we all had this REALLY COOL experience playing, and we want to share AS MUCH OF THAT AS POSSIBLE with the steamer :) So, we're not ( usually ) upset with people who drop spoilers - we'd just like them to reign it in a bit :)
So glad you're talking about this. I feel like I have seen a lot of spoilers under your Mass Effect videos lately and it really can ruin a blind playthrough!
No one is immune to the emotion of Priority Tuchanka. 11 years or so since I first played it, and still gets me every time. It's a beautifully written mission.
i'm not immune, and maybe it was a "tear-jerking" moment for me during my first playthrough, but since then it was always a sad moment but also that type of "heroic sacrifice" where you know it's the right decision and Mordin making that choice without any regrets just makes me respect his will and confidence more than it makes me cry. So it ends up being "i salute you" moment for me. I assume Shepard has the same feeling at the time, sad but proud.
Death is not always the worst thing that can happen to a person. Mordin was able to leave in a way he was happy with, and to atone for his past mistakes. His mission in ME2 forced him to confront the reality of the suffering his work had caused. Also, and this is very important I think - Mordin is very old for a salarian. He's actually already past their life expectancy, and wouldn't have much longer anyway. I think letting him choose his own fate is the noble path.
This game is about loss and sacrifice. Of Sheppard living with the weight of all those she couldn’t save. Having Mordin be one of those, to end the suffering of the Krogan is beautiful
@@martinjrgensen8234 I'm replaying the trilogy. I'm midway through Citadel having done all the things before that. Before heading to the apartment, I took a moment to look at the memorial wall and actively feel those losses. Yeh, I know it's just a game, but the devs and voice actors worked bloody hard to build emotional connections. Seeing those names on the wall, some I chose, some I couldn't save, to get that kind of feeling from a game is just stellar.
Just so you know... there is a way to save Mordin... if you never recruit Wrex or Wrex dies on Virmire. The Koran will have a bad leader and Eve dies. You can convince Mordin that the cure is a not a good idea. But you do NOT want that kind of story.
The emotions you felt the tears you shed all of us who played the trilogy have felt what you felt. Bioware wrote this mission with shear perfection. Mordin was more then just a crewmate to us he was a dear friend I have played this trilogy countless time this mission still hits me in the gut.
I played the ME trilogy a long time ago, around the time ME3 came out, and loved it. I got the Legendary Edition and me and my wife played it together, it was cool to see her reaction and she loved it. Already on another play through and thought I’d check out some other people playing it as well. Thanks for posting these. Mordins sacrifice is one of the moments in this game that always stuck with me. Such a good arc for his character. Overall this whole game is really about each race coming to terms with the mistakes of their ancestors, the Turians on tuchanka, the Krogan and the racni, the salarians and the genophage and so on. Thanks for having us along for the ride.
01:40:10 Once I had a playthrough with Wrex dead (in ME1) and ..well, I didnt think of him for quite some time at this point.. and suddenly during the dream sequence I heard his voice.. Caught me totally off-guard and made me tear up. I am an easy victim for such sad moments. during games.
56:46 Even just hearing a small part of "A Future For The Krogan" (I think that's what the song is called) makes me tear up. Great plathrough as always.
Since you started with the trilogy, I've been waiting for this moment with much anticipation 😅 Mordin is my favorite character, his progressive evolution and maturity throughout the trilogy make that last moment in Tuchanka so powerful and emotional. It had to be him, someone else could be wrong.
No, you didn't do anything wrong. The only way to save Mordin involves betraying Wrex, and the consequences of that are even more heart-breaking. As in real life, the really big decisions in ME3 are often not about choosing between right and wrong, but choosing the lesser of two evils. Keep those tissues close by!
There's nothing that can be done to save Mordin in this playthrough given choices in previous games. If you try and betray the krogan at this point... Eesh. I don't think anyone comes out of that choice feeling good.
@@pkelly6618 yes if I remember correctly Mordin will still do it, he'll just hate you while doing it. You have to to a super ruthless trilogy run and make all the immoral decisions throughout to be able to save Mordin- but at what cost.
@@ginster458 If Wrex dies in ME1 then Mordin will agree that sabotaging the Genophage cure is the right choice. Wreav doesn't want peace and Mordin will realize that was the right choice.
1:34:22 You love this game, as we all do. But sometimes it sucks to experience. (I write, with tears in my eyes) Thankfully we get to enjoy your wonderful playthrough, which kinda makes us experience it again as if it where the first time.
This mission blew my mind the first time I played through the game. I had been hearing about the genophage for 2 games, and now I got to cure it, which I never would have thought was possible. The crazy thing is, there is at least one other mission later in the game that topped this one in terms of "Holy crap, I just did that."
This game tears me apart every single time I play or watch others playthrough it. The one reassuring thing for you should be is that we all are crying or smiling with you. My biggest angst is having to wait a full week to watch you play the next installment. :) Dry your eyes Commander Liera, you are doing what has to be done and we love you :)
1:09:49 "Look at all this architecture!" This moment struck me - if I remember correctly from your Q&A, you're an architect in your day job. So it's especially fun when a big story reveal is presented in a way that it appeals to your professional eye and triggers a specialist's response. (And yeah, the game designers here outdid themselves on an environment that feels advanced and historically civilized and yet also simultaneously recognizably krogan.) On your question about Mordin, others have already answered pretty comprehensively, so I won't repeat anything or spoil any other details. But I will say that the other side of the genophage story does contain my single favorite Mordin moment, and perhaps even my favorite character moment for anyone across the whole trilogy. It's worth playing the alternate choices to see it, even if it's ... emotionally pretty rough. Something for the Mass Effect completist to try on a fourth or fifth run. Not that I'm on my fifteenth playthrough or anything... (clears throat, shuffles nervously)
Other people: "I want to find me a girl that is very beautiful and smart and has a nice body and can cook well and---" Me: "I want to find me a girl that cried to Priority: Tuchanka" But seriously, i came into ME with the Legendary Edition when it launched so i missed years of belonging to the community but i can say, even after all the years of gaming i have and the multitude of titles. This trilogy is one of the best gaming experiences one can have. I hope you keep enjoying it! I got your video randomly recommended to me by UA-cam but i don't question it when i can see more people playing this amazing series and enjoying it. Then again... You did say you "hate this game" so maybe i'm reading this all wrong :P
This game was one gut punch after another. Even replaying it myself, it hits hard. The beauty of the reaction videos is I get to re-experience it vicariously through your eyes
Beautiful and Bravo! This is what RP in a RPG is all about. (Not that seeing you sad or crying all the time is fun or entertaining), but its the emotional investment in "living" the RP in a game rather than "just playing a game" whether its sad, happy, funny, good or bad. So glad to see it and feel it along with you. Thats what makes it great watching 😊 BTW, I have over 15 play throughs and I still cry over this mission and it really hits me when he says "it had to be me, someone else would've got it wrong" and when he starts to sing his song.
Horseshoes are generally considered symbols of good luck. Don’t ask me why. I REALLY want to know more about Liara‘a sister now. Aethyta is one of my favorite side characters. She’s just so blunt.
This is a chilled and friendly feeling channel. Nice work. I wish you so much strength and happiness on your lifejourney. ✌❤🙏 I played this 10 years ago and yet still remember many parts of it. Mass Effect is a memorable series for sure. 🙂
My favourite part about Mordin’s sacrifice is when you start saying renegade choices you question him about the cure after creating the genophage he screams “I MADE A MISTAKE” , which is so damn powerful. A genius scientist who can see and account for every variable admitted that he was wrong and is ready to make it right no matter what the cost
>Entering the infirmary you missed a little song by Mordin that Eve asks him to perform about "The Krogan Queen". That's sad... >Glyph Research Terminal These upgrades are only for you. >Little wings That part you may not remember but it's how Benezia called Liara before she died on Noveria. And now Liara just learned that her father was actually the origin of that. >Cortez Missing the paragon interrupt there is just missing on a few paragon points. it doesn't affect the reputation nor the reward Steve offers you for your support. The paragon interrupt there is more important if you're male Shepard. >"If I didn't told her to get together" I don't know because I've never be that renegade (I'm a big softy at heart so they always end up together even with my renegade Sheps) :D part of the things to try one day... >"I thought we got an asari fleet" You got Asari commandos, not a whole fleet, as a reward from Liara's father, but it will only appear when the Asari get involved in the war and finally appear in your list of war assets. It will be an update to the status of one of the asari fleets (the second fleet if memory serves); you'll just have to look for something coming from "a matriarch friend of the commander". >"Can you guys tell I'm a little procrastinating?" A little bit, yes :) The first time I played the game, I went head on, no fear...until a 42 tons truck hit me square in the jaw. I think it's the reason why all those people who already played the game await your reaction; they're definitely sadists XD But remember, we've all been there. For me it's one if not the hardest mission in the game... and not because of the fight difficulty or Shepard going on foot against a reaper (a little one but still), or even the Mother of all Thresher Maws :D >"Do I get to keep the points as they are" Any point you have invested in a bonus power will be refunded if you decide to change. You'll just have to put them into the new bonus power chosen (or even in any other of your powers). Same if you decide to redo your entire skill tree; No point loss... but a hell of a headache when the tree gets bigger :) >"Ammo capacity. Why does he care about that?" He doesn't. It's infinite ammo for all squadmates. This one is really only for Shepard. >Wreav So for the little story, Wreav is the one that would have been Urdnot leader instead of Wrex (as soon as ME2) if Wrex had died on Virmire. He's also the only reason why Shepard could be inclined to accept the Dalatrass' deal... when he is leader of the krogan. Wrex is a progressive; his half-brother is... well, not as open minded. >"What are those beasts? That's cool." Kakliosaurs. You'll learn more another time. >Ravager and swarmers Ravagers tend to spawn swarmers when they are not actively shooting and sometimes when they die, but not always. If they die quickly, they may not have time. >Wrex: "Tell me something I don't know!"; Mordin: "Metal in truck excellent supplement for Thresher Maw diet!". It's one of the things I don't like about ME3. Systematically when you go too fast you miss some hilarious one liners, here because Liara had something apparently important -- but not funny -- to say. >"He step on me! That is rude!" Yeah, it's not because you want to destroy most life in the Galaxy that you can't demonstrate some manners! XD >"Was there any way for me to save him?" That's the question everyone asks at first. And the answer is no, not in your current playthrough. But yeah, personally I took it hard the first time because Mordin is one of my top most favorite character in Mass Effect, I didn't see his death coming on my first playthrough before gettign to the Shroud, and it's still gripping me each time I replay this mission, even knowing what is about to happen, but thinking about it, you know this is something that he needed and wanted to do. Remember that Salarians believe in reincarnation. You have to balance the scales before departing for a new life. And he pretty much did just that. >"I hate this game" This is about the normal reaction of a first time player... >"There's not a lot of funny business left over anymore" That's because you haven't played the Shore Leave DLC yet. Guaranteed to pick you up... for the most part. I'll eat my hat if it doesn't, except that I don't wear one :D One thing I like in ME3 is that it doesn't sugar-coat it trying to trivialize war in an era where most gamers seem to think that the consequences are remote. "Hey, I played Call of Duty, how bad the real thing can be?" There you hit the bad part of a war. There are losses and some losses hit you much closer than most. Just take that and multiply by 10 or 100 for the real thing. Most other games don't even try to make you feel that. And I'm not saying that ME3 is perfect or did everything right because it didn't. But that sensation of loss at that moment when Mordin sang his last tune in the tower... that was pretty well done. And now, you'll never ever watch a seashell the exact same way than you did...
> That's sad... I think I missed out on most of their idle dialogue. I'll need to stick around for longer in future playthroughs. > And now, you'll never ever watch a seashell the exact same way than you did... :'(
@@LieraPlays >I'll need to stick around for longer in future playthroughs. In fact you'll need to advance further into the room without interacting with them. >:'( Oh, I feel you believe me :/
1:36:00 Yes, Mordin can be saved, but it comes at a high cost. Mordin curing the genophage lets him make peace with what he felt was a mistake in his life. While his death is tragic, he dies feeling as though he's redeemed himself. SPOILER: . . . To save Mordin, Wrex has to be dead and you have to destroy Maelon's data, meaning Eve doesn't survive the cure either. That puts Wreav as leader of the Krogan. Then you can convince Mordin now is not the right time to cure the genophage and he'll agree. In any other circumstance, there's no way for Mordin to survive Tuchanka.
My canon paragade Shepard always went for the "you did good!" - talk when the chips were down and there was no chance for survival. Both to Ash: Of course! Fight hard, Die Proud!) and Mordin: Good Work! You are crazy Mordin, but one hell of a scientist!
The ultimate redemption arc. Mordin goes from "the doctor who killed millions" to selfless hero, trying to makes things right. Such a well-written story.
It's an interesting philosophical question as to the nature of Mordin's guilt/crime. He didn't DIRECTLY kill anyone. He DID unquestionably commit non-consensual mutilation of millions. Without a doubt, the results of that act caused death, suicide, and violence in the Krogan population. Did he also act to save millions or billions of NON-Krogan? Hard to say. And of course, there's the open question as to whether or not the genophage is/was justified to start. That's the great thing about this kind of storytelling. It doesn't give you a moral lesson, so much as the means and incentive to take out your OWN morality, and examine it. I have my own ideas - and I'm not trying to defend Mordin here - I'm just saying it makes you think.
@@Vedexent_ Bollocks - the Krogan were already killing themselves. They had already nuked themselves before contact with Salarians. They rejected negotiations when they had the chance. Salarians and Turians could have easily just wiped them out. Krogans were still killing each other over territory, that's their cultural norm. Overall it's not a stretch to think millions more might die at the hands of the Krogan with a cure, (remember using asteroids to wipe out settlements?) , depending on the outcome of the game, as I'm not sure what might change with some of the outcomes.
@@Vedexent_Mordin's reasoning for the genophage was ruthless and calculated but ultimately he genuinely believed he was doing the right thing for the Krogan - based on models and simulations he saw it as saving the Krogan from total genocide at the hands of the turians/humans (Grunt's daddy Warlord Okeer shared this view, which is why he also opposed a genophage cure) He begins to doubt himself as he takes into account more perspectives and variables, in his own words - it's a "big picture made of little pictures", prone to miscalculation. He made a mistake Lots of real people throughout history have done horrible shit because they genuinely thought it was for the greater good. If we characterise them as heartless monsters, we put too much distance between us and them to actually learn from their mistakes going forward
those dreams rly is a good but hard moment in game, rly shows shepards thoughts of all the people he lost that he/she feels responsible for. ashley/alenko, the boy, and now mordin.
Once again, another great vid :) Just a quick note: they automatically refuel the Normandy for free whenever you dock at the Citadel, so no need to buy fuel if you're just heading back there.
Once again, I'm very happy to watch you play. I've finished the game many times and this mission ALWAYS hits hard, and I'm a grown man, LOL. Without giving spoilers, yes, there is a way to save him, but you didn't do anything wrong. Please don't feel bad. 😔 It truly is a wonderful series, isn't? And ur not done yet!
"What's with the music?" :D Could you imagine if we actually had soundtracks playing in our everyday lives. Start talking with a friend, *somber music begins playing* , uh oh, that's not a good sign.
There's a few things that can still drop kick me in the tear ducts. "It's a terrible day for rain", "Leaves from the vine... falling so slow" "Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
Priority Tuchanka is by far the best "level" in any video game I've ever played. Everything about it was done so well, from the slow buildup, to the crazy fight with all those brutes while the reaper tries to stomp on your head, to that amazing cut scene, to the bittersweet but satisfying resolution to to the Mordin/Genophage storyline (even though Mordin was my favorite character in ME). It doesn't matter how many times I've played through or watched it, it still blows me away.
I went for max war assets, so I had to sacrifice a lot more than I wanted to throughout the entire series, including 2 of my favorite characters, just to get the best ending. And the minor addition to one of the endings hardly felt worth it. There was outrage with the endings in the original release of the game. They changed one of the endings if you get more than 7800 war assets. But you have to make some HARD choices to get there. Out of respect to people who have not played/finished the game, I will limit any talk of how I got max war assets to the reply section, and only by request. So if you care about spoilers, don't click to expand my reply section.
A thousand year long plague that resulted in countless Krogan being birthed as stillborn...gone. I played Mass Effect 3 as my first game so the curing of the Genophage didn't me as hard. Now that I've played through all three games in their entirety...oh boy. Someone pointed out in another video that the reason Mordin sings "Scientist Salarian" is because he's terrified. He doesn't want to die. So he sings to calm himself. You can even hear his voice almost crack during the first half. Also, like everyone, I've always loved the Kalros-Reaper fight. Favorite bit is when the Reaper realizes Kalros is coming, turns to face it, and gives off that Reaper battle blare. Just made it so much more epic.
I hate this game as much as I'm in love with it 😅 end up crying every time I watch or play it myself. Such a gem ❤️ And you are doing so well, it's a pleasure to watch your walkthrough, thank you 🔥
Mordin a Salarian made the unification of Humans, Turians, and Krogans possible. You could have saved Mordin if you betrayed the Krogan and convinced him to sabotage the cure.
ah yes I was waiting for Priority Tuchanka.. still hits me after so many times.. regarding on saving Mordin.. It can be done but it'll involve some renegade stuff...
In fairness they do get PTSD dreams afterwards where Mordin features as a voice, so that's also kinda grieving, grieving doesn't necessarily have to be with tears right?
A soldier with so much responsibility can't cry for anyone, until the job is done. Mordin went out like a champion, and Shephard knew it. No grieving necessary.
Paragon or Renegade, Shepard is the epitome of "the soldier who gets the job done". Also, "the soldier who you don't catch slippin/sleepin", "the soldier who can handle it when the rest of us can't", "the soldier who doesn't say 'That's impossible' but just says 'OK, let's get started, people", etc. So yeah. No crying for Shepard. Just frightening dreams.
I love wrex so when when Wrex calls her a female not her name is not disrespectful. Eve is what Mordin calls her because she gave up her name when she became a Shaman. I love your play style and am now a new subscriber :)
At the Mordin's death, I just want to hug you. I know it's really hard, but you did everything good. The only way to save Mordin was became reckless and betrays Krogans and choose every bad decision in ME2 and ME3 in this narative arc. Strong to you, the worst become :)
I'm like you, I couldn't betray the Krogen.. My next play thru I'll do it for once and see how it turns out. So many hard decisions in this game. I'm still waiting on a new Mass Effect one day. Command Liera Shepard. I love the N7 sweater, I had the hoodie back in the day and I out grew it. Loved that hoodie too. I was going to get an N7 tat somewhere at one point but I could never decide where I wanted it. It's just all out my favorite game trilogy. 😎♥
To answer that question about mordin:naw, was written in. Someone who needed a redeeming arc despite being successful was gonna pay it either way. That’s probably why it was best for him to go out like that for story and irony sake. The doc who endorsed it only to reverse it at the cost of his life.
you know, shepard really is something special.... Even in the most dire moment, there is no hesitation, no emotional breakdown..... Not on virmire, not on tuchanka..... Imagine how luke would react if he dad to make the decision between sacreficing lea or han Or captain kirk if he had to sacrefice spock None had such a strong will, such a strong character to KEEP GOING Shepard is a true hero, not just because there actions, but how they carried themself to inspire others. If shepart would hesitate on virmire, both would die, leaving one of the deaths sheparts fault. But there is none, ready to make the hardest choices wile remaining functional. Shepard was my idol while i was very young. He/she still is
Hey Liera, Ya, Like a few other comments that I noticed about Mordin's death, I kinda cried the first time that I played Mass Effect 3 a few yrs back and ya it still gets me when I watch someone else play it for the first time, but hey it's ok to cry, It's normal and I'm sure everybody does it? Anyway just wanted to say , loved the episode and can't wait for the next one? Be well! ;)
If you don't want to do a renegade playthrough I suggest looking up alternate versions on UA-cam. It's much more emotional as you argue with Mordin for a bit. One of my favorite scenes
Man I forgot to mention before... the Graal Spike Thrower shotgun you picked up... It's awesome. Shoots literal spikes. Negates enemy armor completely (like, hits a Ravager or Brute as if it were a Cannibal or Husk). Shoots accurately long range (with mod) or else mid range, despite being a shotgun. Great choice if you're equipping a shotgun-wielding squadmate, like James. Spikes don't pierce riot shields or cover though...
*With my hand on your shoulder, in calm energy* It's okay, it's okay. When someone said keep Kleenexes nearby, you'll need it for the rest of the playthrough. In fact what happened to Grunt initially, never, I repeat NEVER in dozens of PTs, dropped a tear, but because you I did. :S Welcome to the true meaning of rollercoaster of gaming and ME3 is a flying stratocoaster of twists and turns. PS: Why we like it :P
If I recall, you can save Mordin, but at a grave cost. You need to make specific decisions in ME1 and ME2, but effectively you need to chose between Krogan and Mordin.
Biotic explosions and tech detonations are probably the most fun mechanics of the whole trilogy. Unrelated to my previous comment, it would be funny if you reacted to Mass Effect Poop AFTER finishing the game, lol.
Mordin: "Reaper shell excellent source for Maw diet." Sheperd: "Does that mean she'll get bigger?" Mordin: "Problematic" Years later: Mass Effect 4 hero: "Wasn't Kalros only a mile long? She's as big as a planet now!"
Ah man the full renegade version of this scene is so harrowing, i have never done it in any of my Renegade playthroughs. Its like not hugging Tali in her loyalty mission in ME2
"The female has a name" Technically, she doesn't at that time, as she gave up her name as a shaman. "Eve" is just a convenience for the non-krogans. Also was giggling away at you deliberating whether to report the Delatrass's offer, knowing how the conversation would go immediately after you made your choice 😀
Power Combos! (Detonating explosions) You're getting good practice on combos with Liara. Since you mentioned you've liked them so far, here is how each squadmate can contribute to power combos. First, 'Primers'. These powers will set an enemy up to be detonated on with either fire, cryo, tech, or biotic explosion (Primer sets explosion type): Shepard - Incinerate (after effects) (fire) - Cryo Blast (cryo) - Sabotage (with 'Backfire' upgrade chosen)(tech) - Disruptor Ammo (tech) - Cryo Ammo (cryo) - Sticky Grenade (while Cryo/Disruptor ammo active) Garrus - Overload (if detonated quickly) (tech) Liara - Barrier (during 'lift' after detonating Barrier)(see Barrier) (biotic) - Singularity (biotic) - Warp (during its after effects) (biotic) Javik - Dark Channel (biotic) - Pull (biotic) - Slam (during 'lift' part only) (biotic) - Lift Grenade (biotic) EDI - Incinerate (after effects) (fire) - Overload (if quick) (tech) James - Carnage (fire) - Incendiary Ammo (fire) Having 'primed' the target, you can detonate with a Detonator power: Shepard - Incinerate - Sticky Grenade Garrus - Concussive Shot - Overload - Proximity Mine Liara - Singularity (with self-detonation upgrade) - Warp Javik - Slam - Lift Grenade EDI - Incinerate - Overload - Decoy (with 'exploding decoy' upgrade) James - Carnage - Frag Grenade Some enemies and situations have technicalities affecting detonation, but you'll figue it out in time I'm sure...
There actually is a way for Mordin to live. It is not something your current character could have done. Only a renegade Shep that made certain very specific decisions early has the option to convince Mordin to not go up the elevator.
This tore me up. He was my favorite character in the game and I have to say I was disappointed in how little honor his death was given...just a snarky comment from Wrex and a stupid sentiment from Shep. And then after the subsequent dream sequence the focus is on Ashley's death instead of the most current loss.
@@Vedexent_ ...and the vast difference between her reaction and the way the game handled it illustrates my point perfectly. The writers obviously did not foresee just how loved his character would be at that point.
I wonder if Shepard couldn't afford to break down. She has a lot on her shoulders, including the morale of her whole crew... I don't know. It was a bit surprising that she didn't mention both Ash and Mordin, just Ash. Clearly though, through the dream sequence, she is still haunted by the loss.
On what you wondered in-game - Yes, upgrade Garrus's ammo power with headshot damage, because ammo capacity doesn't apply to him. - Yes, you get your points back when you change the Bonus Power. - Yes, you missed a Krogan to talk to on the 'broken road' before going underground. (Shepard met him before too :p ) - The SMG you used could be modded to reduce muzzle jump (since you're a mid to long range player). The N7 missions and the practice range are good places to see which weapons you like and try new bonus powers. - hahaha you missed Cortez's prompt :D
@@LieraPlays I miss them constantly, so you're not alone there. I tend to put my controller down whenever a cutscene starts. I inevitably miss the prompt and debate going back... or continuing as 'the Shepard who didn't shake Wrex's hand', etc lol.

No one is immune to the emotion of Priority Tuchanka. 11 years or so since I first played it, and still gets me every time. It's a beautifully written mission.
It's that last line, damn it. "Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
The moment I know it's coming, the tears just flow.
I agree
@@Kerknor and the whole of the Krogan race.
The music in the scene matches up pretty well too.
i'm not immune, and maybe it was a "tear-jerking" moment for me during my first playthrough, but since then it was always a sad moment but also that type of "heroic sacrifice" where you know it's the right decision and Mordin making that choice without any regrets just makes me respect his will and confidence more than it makes me cry.
It did seem like he went with a smile, which I appreciated. But I will always miss him.
I like the idea that after two games of no one believing her about the Reapers, Shepard just records every conversation she has with anyone now
I was wondering about that actually. And good thing she died!
I never noticied why she did that hahahahhahahaha
The way he just calmly says "not coming back". So good, he accepted it and knew what he had to do.
There is one way to save Mordin, but he'll hate you for it. You nailed it, even had him happy and singing to the end.
I've saved him a few times and he's always understood. 🤷🏻♂️
@@roadjcat yeah but saving Mordin means sacrificing the Krogan, so to quote Men in Black 3 "where there's death there will always be death"
@@atorothcassidy4866 Well yeah that's why i usually don't do it, but when I do, he's not mad at you
"was there any way to save him ?"
Had to be him. Someone else would have done it wrong. ❤️
How dare you misquote the greatest Salarian of all time XD :P
@@randomlyentertaining8287 Surely that's the point? Someone else quoted him wrong...
Just so you know... there is a way to save Mordin... if you never recruit Wrex or Wrex dies on Virmire. The Koran will have a bad leader and Eve dies. You can convince Mordin that the cure is a not a good idea. But you do NOT want that kind of story.
I've played this trilogy a dozen times, and even just watching you play through Mordin's death still feels like a kick in the gut.
Oh wow. I guess I shouldn't be surprised he was included since he died in your universe. That would have hit me too. I didn't expect Ash at all.
56:46 Even just hearing a small part of "A Future For The Krogan" (I think that's what the song is called) makes me tear up. Great plathrough as always.
The soundtrack is extremely powerful in this game.
And then when the cure is dispersed Vigil's theme from Ilos plays. Perfection.
Since you started with the trilogy, I've been waiting for this moment with much anticipation 😅 Mordin is my favorite character, his progressive evolution and maturity throughout the trilogy make that last moment in Tuchanka so powerful and emotional. It had to be him, someone else could be wrong.
It probably had to be him... but i still wish it wasn't.
Man, getting misty eyed from reading the comments now :D
@@ginster458 Still not the worst outcome IMO
@@ginster458 If Wrex dies in ME1 then Mordin will agree that sabotaging the Genophage cure is the right choice. Wreav doesn't want peace and Mordin will realize that was the right choice.
Is it possible to save Mordin if Wrex is the leader of the Krogan? I thought it's only possible if Wrex dies in ME1
We can take comfort that Mordin got to depart as a healer.
And bring justice to the Reapers so his sacrifice was not in vain.
Oh I will try my hardest!
The seashells line absolutely breaks me every single time I play this game
1:34:22 You love this game, as we all do. But sometimes it sucks to experience. (I write, with tears in my eyes)
Thankfully we get to enjoy your wonderful playthrough, which kinda makes us experience it again as if it where the first time.
1:36:03 There sure is a way to save Mordin, but it means starting at ME1 again and you wouldn't like it one bit.
Morally repugnant but objectively the best solution. I would never do it though. The cost is too high, even for Mordin.
To quote a friend of mine, there is a way to save Mordin, but you'll never do it because of teh cost.
This mission blew my mind the first time I played through the game. I had been hearing about the genophage for 2 games, and now I got to cure it, which I never would have thought was possible. The crazy thing is, there is at least one other mission later in the game that topped this one in terms of "Holy crap, I just did that."
Well Mordin did say Krogan physiology was bypassing the genophage, so it was only a matter of time had there been no more interventions.
Long story short, this is the best result of this mission ethically speaking. You can save Mordin, but at a terrible cost.
Which is what quintessentially makes this mission great. There is no happy ending. Just a hard choice.
1:09:49 "Look at all this architecture!" This moment struck me - if I remember correctly from your Q&A, you're an architect in your day job. So it's especially fun when a big story reveal is presented in a way that it appeals to your professional eye and triggers a specialist's response. (And yeah, the game designers here outdid themselves on an environment that feels advanced and historically civilized and yet also simultaneously recognizably krogan.)
On your question about Mordin, others have already answered pretty comprehensively, so I won't repeat anything or spoil any other details.
Other people: "I want to find me a girl that is very beautiful and smart and has a nice body and can cook well and---"
Me: "I want to find me a girl that cried to Priority: Tuchanka"
But seriously, i came into ME with the Legendary Edition when it launched so i missed years of belonging to the community but i can say, even after all the years of gaming i have and the multitude of titles.
Easily one of the best series I've ever played :D Glad to have been exposed to it!
This game was one gut punch after another. Even replaying it myself, it hits hard. The beauty of the reaction videos is I get to re-experience it vicariously through your eyes
One of the best sci fi stories ever told and for sure one of the best sci fi game series ever made.
Congrats!
Never saw anyone trigger the maw hammers the first time through WITHOUT dying!
I got really close there haha
I'd love to meet Liara's sister :D

Oh nice! Thank you very much! Saved me the search :)
Last sentence : "hopefully it gonna be less tragic than this one..." Yeah... hopefully...
🥲 one can hope, maybe some day
gosh this one gets me all the time.. a majot kick in the gut... man the story telling and the way we connect to our team, that is just.....epic
This is a chilled and friendly feeling channel. Nice work. I wish you so much strength and happiness on your lifejourney. ✌❤🙏
I played this 10 years ago and yet still remember many parts of it.
>Glyph Research Terminal
These upgrades are only for you.
>Little wings
That part you may not remember but it's how Benezia called Liara before she died on Noveria. And now Liara just learned that her father was actually the origin of that.
>Cortez
Missing the paragon interrupt there is just missing on a few paragon points. it doesn't affect the reputation nor the reward Steve offers you for your support. The paragon interrupt there is more important if you're male Shepard.
>"If I didn't told her to get together"
I don't know because I've never be that renegade (I'm a big softy at heart so they always end up together even with my renegade Sheps) :D part of the things to try one day...
>"I thought we got an asari fleet"
You got Asari commandos, not a whole fleet, as a reward from Liara's father, but it will only appear when the Asari get involved in the war and finally appear in your list of war assets. It will be an update to the status of one of the asari fleets (the second fleet if memory serves); you'll just have to look for something coming from "a matriarch friend of the commander".
>"Can you guys tell I'm a little procrastinating?"
A little bit, yes :)
The first time I played the game, I went head on, no fear...until a 42 tons truck hit me square in the jaw. I think it's the reason why all those people who already played the game await your reaction; they're definitely sadists XD
But remember, we've all been there. For me it's one if not the hardest mission in the game... and not because of the fight difficulty or Shepard going on foot against a reaper (a little one but still), or even the Mother of all Thresher Maws :D
>"Do I get to keep the points as they are"
Any point you have invested in a bonus power will be refunded if you decide to change. You'll just have to put them into the new bonus power chosen (or even in any other of your powers). Same if you decide to redo your entire skill tree; No point loss... but a hell of a headache when the tree gets bigger :)
>"Ammo capacity. Why does he care about that?"
He doesn't. It's infinite ammo for all squadmates. This one is really only for Shepard.
>Wreav
So for the little story, Wreav is the one that would have been Urdnot leader instead of Wrex (as soon as ME2) if Wrex had died on Virmire. He's also the only reason why Shepard could be inclined to accept the Dalatrass' deal... when he is leader of the krogan. Wrex is a progressive; his half-brother is... well, not as open minded.
>"What are those beasts? That's cool."
Kakliosaurs. You'll learn more another time.
>Ravager and swarmers
Ravagers tend to spawn swarmers when they are not actively shooting and sometimes when they die, but not always.
That is rude!"
Yeah, it's not because you want to destroy most life in the Galaxy that you can't demonstrate some manners! XD
>"Was there any way for me to save him?"
That's the question everyone asks at first.
>"I hate this game"
This is about the normal reaction of a first time player...
>"There's not a lot of funny business left over anymore"
That's because you haven't played the Shore Leave DLC yet. Guaranteed to pick you up... for the most part. I'll eat my hat if it doesn't, except that I don't wear one :D
One thing I like in ME3 is that it doesn't sugar-coat it trying to trivialize war in an era where most gamers seem to think that the consequences are remote. "Hey, I played Call of Duty, how bad the real thing can be?"
There you hit the bad part of a war.
>:'(
Oh, I feel you believe me :/
1:36:00 Yes, Mordin can be saved, but it comes at a high cost. Mordin curing the genophage lets him make peace with what he felt was a mistake in his life. While his death is tragic, he dies feeling as though he's redeemed himself. SPOILER:
.
.
Mordin Solus the epitome of Stoicism. Sometimes you make the galaxy a better place by helping people and sometimes you do it by removing people.
It's always hard to say goodbye to a good friend. RIP Mordin Solus.
Every time i'm seeing Mordin entering the elevator, some honk seems to be cutting onions right behind me ^^ Every f***ing time since 11 years or so...
Tuchunka is the perfect epitome of an emotional Mass Effect 3 mission. Equal parts epic and heartbreaking
Holy F*** Mass Effect 3 really knows how to pull the heart strings.....damn.
@@Vedexent_Mordin's reasoning for the genophage was ruthless and calculated but ultimately he genuinely believed he was doing the right thing for the Krogan - based on models and simulations he saw it as saving the Krogan from total genocide at the hands of the turians/humans (Grunt's daddy Warlord Okeer shared this view, which is why he also opposed a genophage cure)
He begins to doubt himself as he takes into account more perspectives and variables, in his own words - it's a "big picture made of little pictures", prone to miscalculation. He made a mistake
Lots of real people throughout history have done horrible shit because they genuinely thought it was for the greater good. If we characterise them as heartless monsters, we put too much distance between us and them to actually learn from their mistakes going forward
Finally found the time to watch this episode, man i didn't remember how sad the end of Tuchanka mission was. 😔
those dreams rly is a good but hard moment in game, rly shows shepards thoughts of all the people he lost that he/she feels responsible for. ashley/alenko, the boy, and now mordin.
The Mordin incident is a sad one but trust me, it could have gone much MUCH worse. You got the best outcome. GeeGee
I'm sure it could have. This game doesn't seem to be pulling any punches...
The way this situation plays out on the Renegade side had me hating myself by the end. Only ever did it on a pure-renegade playthrough and never again

"Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
I'm a leaf on the wind...
Honestly, it broke my heart 💔 to see ur heart break. But, no, you didn't do anything wrong. Hang in there and keep riding the rollercoaster.
Perhaps the most heart-crushing moment in the whole series.
I hate this game as much as I'm in love with it 😅 end up crying every time I watch or play it myself. Such a gem ❤️
And you are doing so well, it's a pleasure to watch your walkthrough, thank you 🔥
Mordin a Salarian made the unification of Humans, Turians, and Krogans possible. You could have saved Mordin if you betrayed the Krogan and convinced him to sabotage the cure.
ah yes I was waiting for Priority Tuchanka.. still hits me after so many times.. regarding on saving Mordin.. It can be done but it'll involve some renegade stuff...
And it will involve an even worse heartbreak later down the line.
I said in part 1 that there would be tears in this. I wish I was only talking about this part.
seeing this again after so many years actually made me realize what a cold hearted slab Shepard is...didnt shed a tear or anything for poor Mordin..
In fairness they do get PTSD dreams afterwards where Mordin features as a voice, so that's also kinda grieving, grieving doesn't necessarily have to be with tears right?
@@Helpimnoob I mean riight after Mording took the elevator of death, then dies in an explosion...Shepard looks up and walks away..lol...cold man...!!
Just frightening dreams.
...a scientist Salarian.
1:10:03 To be fair, the Main Problem isn't even the Salarians, but the Nuclear War that destroyed pretty much all resemblance of Krogan Civlization.
I love wrex so when when Wrex calls her a female not her name is not disrespectful. Eve is what Mordin calls her because she gave up her name when she became a Shaman. I love your play style and am now a new subscriber :)
Thanks and welcome in! It's fair about Wrex, but I can't say it doesn't grind my gears every time I hear the term haha
They do know how to pull all the heart strings in this one.
It's hard not to miss Mordin, but he went out like a boss.
Absolutely.
the salarian is on the stairs by the end almost where you talked to that insane asari that was in prison.
Phew! Grunt survived, after all! YES! And then they hit us with THIS! FFFFFUUUU---.....!!
I knoooow! Evil!
Only a psychopath wouldn't feel something for the way mordin goes, he is a champ. Not all tears are evil....
Remember Benezia's last words? Little wing was he nickname for Liara.
you know, shepard really is something special....
Even in the most dire moment, there is no hesitation, no emotional breakdown.....
Not on virmire, not on tuchanka.....
Imagine how luke would react if he dad to make the decision between sacreficing lea or han
Or captain kirk if he had to sacrefice spock
None had such a strong will, such a strong character to KEEP GOING
Shepard is a true hero, not just because there actions, but how they carried themself to inspire others.
If shepart would hesitate on virmire, both would die, leaving one of the deaths sheparts fault. But there is none, ready to make the hardest choices wile remaining functional.
Shepard was my idol while i was very young. He/she still is
Shepard: “A scientist Salarian”
Get them box of tissues ready Liera its only starting.
He was the very model of a Scientist Salarian.
Be well! ;)
The first time i played it i asked myself the same thing if i could have done anything differently to save Mordin
Priority Tuchanka is a rough ride, for all of us. My wife says if you can finish that sequence with dry eyes, then you are dead inside.
The Renegade ending to this mission is.... breathtaking.
If you don't want to do a renegade playthrough I suggest looking up alternate versions on UA-cam. It's much more emotional as you argue with Mordin for a bit. One of my favorite scenes
I am planning to do a renegade playthrough, but it's nice to know that there are so many different outcomes!
Rocking the N7 hoodie Nice.
If you want to see the true sad portrayal of this. Stop him from dispersing the cure. 😑
Welcome to the true meaning of rollercoaster of gaming and ME3 is a flying stratocoaster of twists and turns.
PS: Why we like it :P
Vigil's Theme, hits everytime
There's only one way to have Mordin survive and you have to be renegade and make very specific choices in ME2 and ME3.
If I recall, you can save Mordin, but at a grave cost. You need to make specific decisions in ME1 and ME2, but effectively you need to chose between Krogan and Mordin.
11 years and I still cry whenever Mordin dies 😭
Biotic explosions and tech detonations are probably the most fun mechanics of the whole trilogy.
Unrelated to my previous comment, it would be funny if you reacted to Mass Effect Poop AFTER finishing the game, lol.
Those questions were exactly what I said on my first playthrough. I felt I had failed Mordin. I made some some mistake. My friend had died.
Mordin: "Reaper shell excellent source for Maw diet."
Sheperd: "Does that mean she'll get bigger?"
Mordin: "Problematic"
Years later:
Mass Effect 4 hero: "Wasn't Kalros only a mile long? She's as big as a planet now!"
Ah man the full renegade version of this scene is so harrowing, i have never done it in any of my Renegade playthroughs. Its like not hugging Tali in her loyalty mission in ME2
Emotional moments on Mass Effect 3 ❤
"The female has a name" Technically, she doesn't at that time, as she gave up her name as a shaman. "Eve" is just a convenience for the non-krogans. Also was giggling away at you deliberating whether to report the Delatrass's offer, knowing how the conversation would go immediately after you made your choice 😀
Haha I felt like the game slapped my hand there for overthinking :D
Power Combos! (Detonating explosions)
You're getting good practice on combos with Liara. Since you mentioned you've liked them so far, here is how each squadmate can contribute to power combos.
First, 'Primers'. These powers will set an enemy up to be detonated on with either fire, cryo, tech, or biotic explosion (Primer sets explosion type):
Shepard
- Incinerate (after effects) (fire)
- Cryo Blast (cryo)
- Sabotage (with 'Backfire' upgrade chosen)(tech)
- Disruptor Ammo (tech)
- Cryo Ammo (cryo)
- Sticky Grenade (while Cryo/Disruptor ammo active)
Garrus
- Overload (if detonated quickly) (tech)
Liara
- Barrier (during 'lift' after detonating Barrier)(see Barrier) (biotic)
- Singularity (biotic)
- Warp (during its after effects) (biotic)
Javik
- Dark Channel (biotic)
- Pull (biotic)
- Slam (during 'lift' part only) (biotic)
- Lift Grenade (biotic)
EDI
- Incinerate (after effects) (fire)
- Overload (if quick) (tech)
James
- Carnage (fire)
- Incendiary Ammo (fire)
Having 'primed' the target, you can detonate with a Detonator power:
Shepard
- Incinerate
- Sticky Grenade
Garrus
- Concussive Shot
- Overload
- Proximity Mine
Liara
- Singularity (with self-detonation upgrade)
- Warp
Javik
- Slam
- Lift Grenade
EDI
- Incinerate
- Overload
- Decoy (with 'exploding decoy' upgrade)
James
- Carnage
- Frag Grenade
Some enemies and situations have technicalities affecting detonation, but you'll figue it out in time I'm sure...
Mass Effect did great allowing us to feel the weight of our choices but Mass Effect 3 allowed us to also feel the weight of the Inevitable.
I think Liera gave him the proper significance, by her reaction, though.
On what you wondered in-game
- Yes, upgrade Garrus's ammo power with headshot damage, because ammo capacity doesn't apply to him.
- Yes, you get your points back when you change the Bonus Power.
- Yes, you missed a Krogan to talk to on the 'broken road' before going underground. (Shepard met him before too :p )
- The SMG you used could be modded to reduce muzzle jump (since you're a mid to long range player). The N7 missions and the practice range are good places to see which weapons you like and try new bonus powers.
- hahaha you missed Cortez's prompt :D
> Cortez
I've always been bad at QTEs, so this isn't unexpected, but very frustrating :D
@@LieraPlays I miss them constantly, so you're not alone there. I tend to put my controller down whenever a cutscene starts. I inevitably miss the prompt and debate going back... or continuing as 'the Shepard who didn't shake Wrex's hand', etc lol.
