I do most of this but except I keep it all in my head. I work backwards from your steps. I find combos first then see the pokes and moves for pressure and spacing. You do this the other way around. Its how I learned MK9 before First I check the special moves to see why the character is unique. Which special moves act as linkers or as enders. Second I look for combo potential. I see which attack strings can cancel into a special move, or which attack strings act as a launcher. I will also check for overhead and low mix ups if there are any. Third I check out the pokes (normals) to see which basic buttons are safe to press for footsies and spacing. Sometimes they are good for combos.
I'm trying to git gud and learn to hold my own in this game. Your channel is dope and you explain things very clearly. I appreciate your efforts man, thanks and keep doing what you do.
I understand nothing.. is he talking chinese? Overhead EX-cancel mixup run anti air forward two back up three combo.. i hear words but they make no sense to me :P I think i'm missing a whole lot of lingo here
Overhead means that if they are blocking low it will still hit them. Low means if they are blocking normally it will hit them. EX essentially means doing a move and also pushing right trigger, spending a bar of meter to improve upon the move in some way. Mixup means confusing your opponent so that you can get a hit and often times start a combo. Anti air is a move to do when someone tries to jump in to hit them out of it. And finally 1234 refer to the various normal attacks, and back forward up or down refer to pushing a direction as you are doing these buttons to perform variations on them. Hope this helps!
great video! found you out today and I'm glad I did... when I learn a character, I go straight for the longest, hardest and most powerful kombos possible. I only have the time to play this game casually, but your channel helped me a lot. thanks :D
This is really good mate. I've been trying to find a character I'd like to main and this helped me figure out how to properly understand the character I'm playing. Thanks bro
Would you perhaps be interested in covering the "Option Select", and making a video about it? I think it's a nice addition to the mechanics of the game.
forward 2 ? Back in my days we had HP LP HK LK (high punch low punch so on) Now we have Bp Fp, Back punch/kick, Front punch/kick or X A B Y or Yellow Blue Red Green, Square Triangle X Circle, 1 2 3 4, JKLI on keyboard GOD DAM IT :)))
I am pretty good 202- 160 but I am not amazing, there are still some moves I could learn with different characters. I know moves from Alien and Jason but not Erron Black or Scorpion and I really want to learn different combos, and actually beat an opponent using combos rather than spamming.
Sajam will u ever do an advanced character tutorial? I feel like I have the basics of scorpion down, but I'm unsure about how to improve. You have great videos!
one more thing i feel like some characters frame data is mislabeled could you check that out specifically the hit advantage on d'vorahs ovipos strike and low ovipose swipe
Loving the vids, New to this channel and fighting game terminology in general, was wondering if you could do a video explaining all the lingo you use in these videos and those used in like tournaments or essentially every lingo to do with fighting games in general (e.g. normals, mix ups, fifty fifties [something I heard in pro-MKX vids]), I know a few generally just from context, but an in-depth explanation of all the lingo especially specific to MKX would be awesome.
Normals are hitting any basic 1 button attack, 50/50s are using high and low attacks in different intervals so your opponent has to guess which on to block, mix ups are changes to your combo and as the name says, things to mix up the tempo of the fight, canceling is stopping your previous action to either stop running and start a combo string (run cancel) or use a special move after a normal or a button combo (canceling into a special)

Nice vid. May I ask for MK X how do you suggest are the top characters that I can focus on and get to know the inside out. So some1 with a less complex play style. Hope that makes sense. Appreciate it
yomamapkme I've personally found Liu Kang to be really good and fairly simple. Online I've gotten multiple flawless victories just using good placement of fireballs and flying kicks/bicycle kicks.
I got this game 3 days ago and I really want to learn gunslinger erron black but that character is so fucking hard to learn! I have mastered slasher Jason and I know a bit of relentless and unstoppable as they have the same moves! I know a combo of kung Lao, I NEED to learn erron black he is like my main and when I search for combos on UA-cam every combo starts with 21122(which of course is the most tricky move to pull off! Any help?!
So I am new to MK but a veteran to Smash so I know about frame data quite a bit. However what I do not understand is as follow; what does the block and hit advantage stat refer to or mean while looking at someones combo list.
Block refers to how many frames you are plus/negative when your opponent blocks a string or special move. Hit means the same but it applies to when the move actually hits them.
The numbers is generally understood among the most fighting games with any Community I come from playing Tekken and excessive amount and it's the same thing so some people who have experienced with knowing these the numbers is just easier to speak universally
Also to help really quick a safe move normally when someone blocks and you throw out a move as they're blocking you can still throw out another move just as quick and you don't have to risk blocking or ducky normally means safe or they can't punish you for it after you got done with the move and unsafe move normally is strong but it's super slow and it recovers bad meaning if you use this as they're blocking and you get done with the move normally if they have a move quick enough they can hurt you soon as you're done

How I learn characters:
I search up easy kombos.
you are truly, a master!

You've really helped me my Game is already improving for the better.
Why do I not have time like this to dedicate to mkx or 11 darn family, responsibilities, and work getting in the way of video games.
I basically do all of the Notepad shit in my head. Coupled with a fuckton of repetition. Good video bruh

La Bella Damir I think it's way easier with 1,2,3,4 tho since you always know which button to press
1, 2, 3, 4 is universal, no matter the system you play in.
love this video. the thought process is brilliant!!!

yomamapkme I've personally found Liu Kang to be really good and fairly simple. Online I've gotten multiple flawless victories just using good placement of fireballs and flying kicks/bicycle kicks.
Pretty neat. Been trying to get into Kenshi.

Generally if something is -6 or less it is unsafe and you can be punished.
+Meridiax wow. thats simple and I understand it now. that you very much.
No problem, hope it helps
i'm shit
What does it mean when you say that moves are special canceled?
marcuszobnoer that means you can combo after the move into a special
Nice tips
You're a G.
Is this on PC? Since you have access to a notepad.
Ok, thanks for replying back. :)
mchlup Now it is on PC as well ;)
***** Looks like u did this with a lot of characters, u knew exactly, what u wanted to do-.-

Why do you say numbers instead of ybxy ? What is a safe/unsafe move? you talk like a pro goes way over my head.........

WHY ARE THEY CALLED 1,2,3, ? i don't get it
Ps4 reference: Square=1 Triangle=2 X=3 Circle=4
they are called 1,2,3,4 because not all consoles have the same buttons so it makes it easier for everyone. 1= square on ps3 and X on Xbox.
What ever happened to HP(High Punch), HK(High Kick), etc?
That will cover all consoles.
