I was all moon eyed on this because I tried to do this and the threads didn't match. Glad to see I'm not crazy because it's like 31/32 of an inch on one end and a different thread form. I have a half dozen giant SS flasks I wanted to do something interesting with but there really isn't anything out there to mate to it. Absolutely hate plumbing.
@@SyBernot Yeah, when the first keg was a fail and the second keg arrived but wasn't perfect, took me a second to calm down and make it work. I basically treated it like a press fit and rely on the ptfe tape and flour paste as the real seal.
Hi glad to see you're good bearded... Id like to see you hypothetically test a invert sugar wash into a sweet tea (flavor your choices i used peach tea) instant "aged" "whisky" ... Not a true aging just technically a colored new make
Nice way to bend copper tubing fill it with sand caps both the end of the pipe then bend it. It works with water to if you freeze it outside only cap one end with water for the pipe to not burst
Literally running your banana rum wash right now, bloody thing keeps wanting to scorch on me. Looks like I'll be here a while, running it real slow haha
Ok, so....... my whole life there has been a little bottle in my parents liquor cabinet that my father swears was made by his neighbor in the 60's and the claim was the liquor was made from grass clippings after mowing the lawn. Have you ever heard of someone else or tried making a mash from grass clippings? I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work, avoiding the dog pee ect would b a pain I guess. Lol
YES! We have missed you, so good you are back. Now lets hope George will find the strength to re-entry the YT-scen. Would love to see you, George and Jessie co-lab again.
Glad you're back. Here's my tip for everyone soldering, Clean and handle your copper while wearing nitrile gloves, it will keep the oil of your fingers off of your copper, and that is a good thing
I was in heating and air conditioning for 30 years. Folks, if you're hesitating because you're worried about kinking 3/8 or 1/4 inch soft copper, don't be. If you can kink soft copper that small, you're talented. Just do what he said and use something to wrap it around as a form and it will come out perfectly. Easy peazy.
Tin the pipes with solder. Wipe most off. Insert pipe into fitting. heat pipe down from join Watch join for solder flowing Old school method but it works
@@BeardedBored do you have a discord? If so, I can answer random questions like this on there! I’ve also made random chemistry comments on your other videos (and Jessie’s/ brewbirds etc) Never know when you need a chemist! (Amongst my other myriad of other skills 😋)
Cheers Jessie. I brew beer so these safety net vids make sense to me. I'd love to keep seeing them pop up occasionally. Knowing a little on how to scale things is helpful - I want to make as much as possible in one go but it's always a balance for time - mashing, fermenting and distilling - So knowing how I can scale to smaller batches for one run helps.
Yes! Pipe bending springs are cheap and they WILL make your work easier. An alternative is a plumbers bender which of course costs more but it's essentially a "forever tool".
DO NOT use solder with lead in it to build this. Use Silver solder. The Lead will leach out into the distillate for you to drink if you use plumbing solder.. Glad to have you back!
Is normal lead free plumber's solder made for soldering hot water pipes not suitable? (Im not a pro, i thought there was only two types, electronics and lead free plumbing solder)
happy to see you are still around... and wish you could show us from start to end the "hypothetical" process.... am interested in seeing that... not doing it, but leaning for sure. cheers.
Awesome to see you back! I just followed your instructions on building a condenser yesterday. I was a bit shocked at the price of copper as I hadnt bought any lately but your write up was spot on. Thanks !
I made something similar with a double lined tiny keg. Added two ports to turn it into a tiny jacketed steam boiler powered by the outlet of a pressure cooker. Hypothetically works amazing for experimenting with fermented on grain or experiment fruit mashes without scorching. Glad you're back!
So bloody glad to see you back mate , your a legend! So hope George, Jessie, and yourself can keep your wealth of information going, you are all legends 😃👊👊👊🥃🥃👍
My God, you came back. Mr Willson was left all alone to cover for you. But he defended your position quite diplomatically. Great to see you. Like that mini still. I'm looking at making a mini continuous still just for fun. Made disill a few bottles of scotch at a time. Thanks for the video.
Firstly, glad to see you're back, hope all is well in your personal life and you're able to juggle both that and UA-cam without it being any hassle! Second, I was literally just looking into building a new still last night and while looking for kegs, I had this exact idea! I can't wait to sit down and watch this video in a shirt while! 😁
Cool video on how to make a mini still. Hypothetically could you ferment ground cinnamon and get the flavor to come through, or would you need to use a spice pot to get the flavor to come through…that might be a fun one to try with a small keg like that.
Bearded - get a pot just big enough to fit your keg into and fill around it with oil (canola, or whatever) - BOOM! Now you have an oil-jacketed mini still that won't ever scorch.
Congrats on the job .. funny thing i thought about those little beer kegs when i first started looking ..it looks like yours turned out great "hypothetically" .. good to see you doing well
Glad to have you back brother, you were missed! Cool little project, and far as your soldering skills go, what I've seen you do is pretty good work! Making sure parts are shiny clean is the the key. Suggestion: How about sharing some of your cooking skills again in the future? I enjoy them too. At any rate, welcome back. God bless. Rev. D.
I can't recommend that unless it's chemically inert under standard distillation conditions. Ethanol, acetone, acetaldehyde, etc are all powerful solvents at high temps in a standard alcohol distillation and can strip unwanted chemicals from putty.
@@BeardedBored like most anything you have to watch the ingredients. I know for your channels and personal sake you can't due to the possible liability contained . Most though consist of mainly clay with a little linseed oil to maintain pliablity. There's a few that contain talc and as many know is a known carcinogenic.
Great to see the video, Bearded! Hang in there, buddy. I recently started soldering copper, and my workbench vise is not oriented to using a torch safely. So for small fittings I used a coffee can with some sand in it and stuck my plier handles into the sand so the pliers could hold my fitting. I put the can on a side table and was able to hold the copper fittings and maneuver the can around while I heated the joints. I figured if you can solder, anyone can😜 Of course I could buy a mini-vise but what’s the fun in that?

Cool video on how to make a mini still. Hypothetically could you ferment ground cinnamon and get the flavor to come through, or would you need to use a spice pot to get the flavor to come through…that might be a fun one to try with a small keg like that.
You could use a neutral spirit and infuse it, then rerun it. Kind of like gin.
