      I was all moon eyed on this because I tried to do this and the threads didn't match. Glad to see I'm not crazy because it's like 31/32 of an inch on one end and a different thread form.
      I have a half dozen giant SS flasks I wanted to do something interesting with but there really isn't anything out there to mate to it.

      @@SyBernot Yeah, when the first keg was a fail and the second keg arrived but wasn't perfect, took me a second to calm down and make it work. I basically treated it like a press fit and rely on the ptfe tape and flour paste as the real seal.

    Cool video on how to make a mini still. Hypothetically could you ferment ground cinnamon and get the flavor to come through, or would you need to use a spice pot to get the flavor to come through…that might be a fun one to try with a small keg like that.

    Glad to see ya back, I was about to go into withdraw... I know "Real Life" takes priority.. To fix your issue, to me, looks easy, I could be wrong (maybe).. From the maker of the keg, see if they have a fitting they sell and explain what you are "Hypothetically" going to do.. I made one from a larger keg and that is what I did, they were happy to sell me what I needed I just passed it on the the "Fairies" to complete the task.. Sorry if I came across rude.. that was not my intent.. I do hope this information helps.. I very much enjoyed watching.. I am going to make one, that was a brilliant idea.. I know many others have made them, I just like your approach and idea better.. Also for my heat source, I use a countertop temperature controlled single flattop burner.. The name is worn out, but it was a bit pricey, I bought it cause I can accurately set a precise temp (+/- 1 degree) and for some distillations 1 or 2 degree off can make a difference.. Sorry to babble on, it's a bad habit..

    Such a great video, I was measuring my mini cakes threads and they are 1.5 mm apart and the copper threading that I got from my home Depot was 2 mm apart so did you force the threads down with force or did you get it to match?

    • @BeardedBored
      @BeardedBored  2 роки тому

      I'm able get it to thread, but not well and only screw it on about 3 full turns. I don't bother forcing it so I don't damage the copper threads., also the flour paste does the trick for a vapor tight seal.

    Not trying to be picky but "bending springs" are used INSIDE the pipe, so as to support the tube as it is bent, thus stopping any partial collapse ( kink ). On the outside of a smaller pipe, they will still allow it to kink as the bending motion simply spreads the spring coils, thus no support. In small dia tube, try filling it with dry fine sand. Generally just taping the ends with a good pvc tape will suffice (or crimp with pliers) to hold in the sand. Then blow it out once bent.

    Great to see the video, Bearded! Hang in there, buddy. I recently started soldering copper, and my workbench vise is not oriented to using a torch safely. So for small fittings I used a coffee can with some sand in it and stuck my plier handles into the sand so the pliers could hold my fitting. I put the can on a side table and was able to hold the copper fittings and maneuver the can around while I heated the joints. I figured if you can solder, anyone can😜 Of course I could buy a mini-vise but what’s the fun in that?

      Marmalade brandy sounds like a great thing to test. It would make a really good base for a grand marnier type of liqueur;-)

    A 5 gallon bucket condenser would be a hell of a lot easier to make and gives you more surface area. Fits a hell of a lot of ice water too!!!

    I know some people use under space heaters, basically just copper pipe with loads of fins on.

      I've only seen one air cooled still with fins like that. Very neat design idea!
