Those rock slot canyons were amazing. I cant get over how tall that firetower is. I've climbed some wildlife observation towers, but they look small compared to this one.
Its not reccommended if you are afraid of heights! I love fire towers myself, I just think they are a super fun thing to explore on a hike. New York has a decent amount of them open to the public...
Well done. Both fred woods trail and cook forest have been on my bucket list for a while. Thanks for getting me there. After watching I'm moving them up on the list. Probably a nope for me on climbing the tower 😮. I always try though. Take care and God Bless you my friend. 👍🙏🙂🦝🦝🦝🦝🦝😁😅😂
It's pretty easy until the fourth level of steps. That's how I feel at work too with scaffolding. Anytime I climb one of those structures I always remind myself it's been standing for decades throughout terrible storms and that thought helps calm me down. Fred Woods trail is a perfect candidate for the Dayhikedave treatment. And let me share a little secret here with you. On your way up to the trailhead there is a road to the right that leads to an epic overlook. I stopped there on my way back and it was incredible, worth a video in itself practically....
Looked like a great trip, the North Woods becomes part of you if you spend enough time there. Nice hike through the rocks and the racoon attack, sneak little critters double teamed you.
How was THAT for an experience. We have so much cool stuff in PA. I remember the first time at this site as well as the three or four other ones. Always an amazing trip. Same with stopping off in the Wilds at the Kunes Camp.
Thank you Scott, Pennsylvania is underrated for sure, but maybe that is a good thing, idk. It's definitely a good place to be a UA-camr as you will never run out of material. I will look into Kunes Camp, I'm not sure I am familiar with that one...
I don't climb fire towers but I'll watch you do it, hehe. Wow, that Fred Woods Trail was cool. Loved that slot canyon. I've hiked in the Forest Cathedral before, and it's great, so I'm looking forward to seeing that part.
Working on the Forest Cathedral edit, that is the first half of day 4. Yea that mini canyon was super cool, I could have spent a lot more time exploring that area in greater depth. Seems like fire towers some people love them some people want nothing to do with them, appreciate your watching and commenting brother.
You are the kind of person that lives in my soul when it comes to hiking and capturing these epic adventures! I now need to plan a trip like this for myself in the next year or two!
I loved the freedom of being on the open road. I had a rough idea where I would be going but nothing was set in stone. It was the best week I have had in a long time. I also found some nice small town restuarants along the way too. Very affordable with huge portions.
When I camp I carry very little with me - its not an elaborate set up - and I very rarely have much food out especially after dark. They definitely caught me off guard this time!
Thank you for bringing back some wonderful memories! Though I grew up in NE Ohio we spent many, many happy times in Cook's Forest. Loved Seneca Point and climbing the fire tower! Mt parent's finally were able to buy a tiny cabin nearby so we were able to take our boys there many times. Loved hiking the trails in the park. Such a beautiful area. Thank you again.
Thanks for sharing that Joyce. Your comment makes me so happy because it's one of the primary goals of my channel to help people reconnect with places they have not seen in many years. It's great that you were able to enjoy so many memories in Cook Forest. It has a very special place I'm my heart and the hearts of many others. Next video will be shot entirely at Cook forest.
That ending 😅…great stuff though. Cook Forest will always have a special place in my heart I’ve been climbing that fire tower for years as well, nothing beats the views from up there in the fall time. As for the Fred’s Woods trail that’s been on my shortlist for a while now, have driven by it countless times and everytime I say next time! Good stuff, really looking forward to your take on Kinzua Bridge. I just booked a site up in Kettle Creek for the first time can’t wait to explore it. Cya on the next one 🐊
Have a good time at Kettle Creek it's a very nice place. Not a lot of hiking within the park itself but many options nearby. I was debating whether or not to put in those last few shots late in the night. I actually forgot I filmed them, but hopefully some people got a few laughs out of it...
Beautiful place to explore! I love the mountain laurel. I haven't climbed a lot of fire towers due to a heights issue. My knees won't allow it now 😅 I really like the giant rocks, and that canyon is amazing! Gotta watch out for those bandits!
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch until the end. I wasn't going to throw that scene in at the end but I think it provided a little lightheartedness to the video. Pennsylvania has some really nice locations that aren't very well known...
One time I was dozing off on my little back porch and it was very dark out and i was wearing white socks. I felt something grabbing my foot, and here it was a raccoon tugging on my foot! They are very curious and intelligent...
Wow! Loved the Canyon! Good thing you stopped to do that hike! Love fire towers! I have to check that one out. I want a job as a fire tower lookout! Damn raccoons! 🦝
A spur of the moment decision and it turned out well. Fire towers are the best, I know up in New York in both the Catskills and Adirondacks they have like a fire tower challenge where if you visit every fire tower in each region you get a patch or something like that. Wish it wasn't so far away...
@@WALTERZOLNA Righr? I would definitely do something like that if it wasn’t such a long drive. I’ve been picking away at the Catskill 35ers over the years but probably would have finished by now if it was a shorter drive.
When I visited Cooks forest last fall, I totally missed #9, I guess the cathedral forest held my attention too long. I’m heading back in October ( camping at clear creek) .. I’ll definitely be climbing this amazing structure. Thank you for sharing.
I rank Cook Forest as the number One state park in Pennsylvania because it has so much to offer, and it has that one signature feature - The Forest Cathedral - that puts it at the top of my list. I just visited there, but I feel like I left so much on the table with this place, that I already am longing to return...
One of my biggest gripes about Pennsylvania is the lack of public access to the fire towers. I understand the reasoning - stupid people doing stupid stuff- but NY has about a dozen or more fire towers open and they seem to find a way to make it work.🤷
I like fire towers. I have climbed the one in Dorset Ontario Canada many times and yes it is scary when it is windy. Racoons will get into everything! Smelly creatures. I am glad you missed the rattle snakes.
Old number 9! Nope! Stumblina went up but not this old guy. Been enjoying this trip and videos.my kid was bummed she didn't cross paths with you while in susquehannock state forest. Keep on camping!
Thanks!
You have been such a blessing to me Debbie... thank you
Great video, love those rock walls.
It felt like being in an Indiana Jones movie, which was my favorite character as a kid...

I was super comfortable, settled in by the fire, and they got me lol. Very smart tricky animals they are...

Those rock canyons and ferns are absolutely magnificent! Thanks for sharing!
Fred Woods trail was a great find. All those giant boulders just kind of appear out of nowhere and the whole feel of the place changes completely...
❤so excited to watch!!😊❤❤❤

Thank you Bill, those raccoons are pesky critters.. Thanks for watching the video and dropping the comments...
Great vid. Loved the slot canyons. - Gotta be smarter than the average raccoon!
Hey those raccoons are pretty clever!

You can have the fire tower lol that’s a big nope . All I could think of was the scene in Uncle Buck with the raccoons 🤣lol great stuff
I forgot about that scene from Uncle Buck. I loved that movie when I was younger!
Hahahah John Candy was so awesome. The great 96er😂
