      You know when you are in an old growth forest, you feel it in your soul. For me it is like a spiritual experience, it is very quiet, dark, and peaceful, there is a pure and old soul energy that emenates...

      In 7 days that was the only rain that fell during the day, I got very lucky with that. The tradeoff was that it was very hot for May. I really love Cook Forest. Been there 3 times now and still have much more to see.

    Interesting info you inserted about the fallen giants of Forest Cathedral. So now you're headed to Hearts Content, ooooh. I'm excited again; I've hiked there, too.

      It's sad to see the biggest of the big trees go down, but atleast it occurred in a natural way. Im always googling topics to try to gain some information on things, I've long known the Longfellow was the state champion, I was curious to see what the current height was and that's how I stumbled down that rabbit hole... Apparently there is a grove of trees in Western Mass that now holds the distinction of the tallest forest in the Northeast, I need to look into it more...

    The stand of old growth trees is beautiful, and you captured it beautifully. The Cooks State Park looks amazing. It's always sad to lose some of the great trees due to weather events. I bet that trail is something when all the mountain laurel is in bloom. Beautiful trail to a nice waterfall 😊

    Great stuff Walt, that deer shot at the very beginning was 👌🏼…the sawmill has been a staple for us for years the portions there are great for the price, agree with you on filming the cathedral in the bright summer, it’s best seen on those dreary foggy fall days but you did a great job portraying how special that area is…definitely going to look into the petroglyphs information, I just saw someone posting about finding some last week. Cya on the next week

    • @WALTERZOLNA
      @WALTERZOLNA  5 місяців тому +1

      Even though the area around the park is very "touristy" and I don't typically go for that kind of thing, it is nice to be able to go a short distance and get a square meal or other provisions. Come to think of it, the last time I was in Cook Forest was in fact in the fall and it had a different feel to it... I will be back again at some point God willing, I want to start hitting some of the other trails that I always skip over...

    Finally got caught up on your 'wilds" series. It might as well be another country or state. So different from the east and all the people and development. Cook Forest is on my short list of state parks to visit. Hopefully this fall I can make a trip out there to visit it and McConnells Mill and Ohiopyle. Too bad about the old trees falling.

      @WALTERZOLNA  4 місяці тому

      11 year old me, that was a trip, 😂. I guess the video came out ok I think based on the geography of the area the forest cathedral might be better filmed toward sunset than sunrise. And yes I was utterly soaked with sweat after doing the waterfall hike, the humidity was outrageous;

    • @staceypence3274
      @staceypence3274 4 місяці тому

      That pic was adorable,very studious 🧐 we did the scurry only to realize “we have to climb back out”. We have found that early spring and fall are the best times. Also dawn is nice with the light barely coming through the trees. Off season allows for very few people . Some of the off the beaten path trails like the emerald path make for a better experience. Overall though I loved your film
