I don’t know if you will see this but I’m at my wits end, I got a new router checked all the settings and can’t figure it out, I can talk in party chat just fine but not game chat at all, I can’t hear anything from others and it shows my mic is muted... it’s for multiple games. What could it be (ps4) I have tried everything...
Playstation recommends establishing these ports for the PS4 for a start: TCP 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480 UDP: 3478, 3479 There are other ports which you can also open such as: TCP: 1935 UDP: 3074 Maybe those will help?
Hey John, this comment may not be seen but my question is finer internet that’s hooked up to a ARRIS SB8200 with a Netgear Nighthawk R7800 (soon to be upgraded to a XR500) or fiber internet with AT&T? Your thoughts?
John Glasscock true, and John you know what I’ve noticed? Is that yes you can subscribe to Comcast and get let’s say, a 400MBPS down and 25 upload, (what I have) just regularly. They’ll cap you at one terabyte of data for the month and if you go over you have to pay. Thing is, whenever I speed test on my modem when I’m hardwired directly to it, it got only 80-120MBPS download while 25 upload, and yes I know in the real time you won’t get all of your bandwidth but what I’m trying to say is if you subscribe to their unlimited data plan, you’ll get a more consistent stream of data to your modem to supply your network with. Now when I speed text my modem I’m getting all my bandwidth, and even doing more well in games, consistently, than I already have. It’s a theory but worth trying it out. I upgraded my modem and router to the latest firmware and when the router was connected to the modem, without the unlimited data plan, it got my full bandwidth but it wasn’t consistent all the time even though it was great internet. Now, I get it consistently. Looks like they’re holding out imo until you subscribe. Just a thought, hope you have a good Christmas my guy!
@@Altruistic9 well you could always try fiber and if you dont like it switch back. The speeds are reliable and I've never had an outage. Also, no data cap whatsoever
Hi. I've have been messing with these settings for the past 5 years on netgear linksys edgerouters etc. This is my set up on many routers and is the best way please try it out. Qos on, max priority on console no port forward, upnp on. The ports or "service" I add to Qos rules and prioritize to one below maximum so like medium. Please try it out and give me your feed back. Thanks. Uplink or upstream bandwidth control on automatic or off.
How do you get a 1000mbps upload speed? Mine is 10mbps.. 😅. Also, I've been looking everywhere for the bridge/router mode stuff and you finally answered my question ;)
Question about changing MTU size. You said to change it on the device you're playing with but what if i'm playing on my PC and i get disconnected frequently from Cod: Warzone. What should I lower it to? Thanks in advance.. Also, my QOS does not have an advanced option, only a button to enable it. I updated to the most recent version just in case that was the issue. I have the R7000P, Maybe that's why.
I game in a room two rooms away from my XR500 and purchased a 100ft CAT7 cable to reach. With this cord I have an excess of about 50ft in cabling. Do you think getting a more reasonable length with less excess would help my ping latency. Usually getting around 30-50ms
Should I set up my router to receive only a single signal like 4G+ only or should keep it variable like 5G/4G/3G for stable internet and online gaming experience ?
@john glasscock, I have a xr300, could you explain the qos slider a little more?? Say I put the slider at 70% am I limiting the bandwidth to other devices or to my Xbox which I want prioritized? Also do you have a more in depth video on port forwarding?
Question‼️👏🏻... Have a r7300 Netgear Nighthawk, THEE EXACT same setup that you have in terms of router software/interface, I did the Fortnite port forwarding, watched literallly every single one of your vids✊🏻🙏🏻. But when I check the ports on port checker/network Utilities app, they say “ports not reachable/not open”...... Does that matter? Or did that same thing happen to you?.. Help me out👍🏻*Note- I’m not a bot when it comes to tech*
I've never used port checker tools. Port forwarding is very hard to mess up if you know what you're doing so personally I forward ports and trust they are open. I know it works cause I've gone from moderate to open nat many times in vids just from port forwarding
Sometimes your ISP will run your connection through their own NAT on addition to your own routers NAT. Often times they just do it for tests and forget to turn it off so try calling them and see if they can turn it off for you.
Just set game ports or "service port" to highest priority and set port 80 and port 443 to lowest your router will do the rest. If you are using bandwidth percentages use 67% for highest and 33% for normal. I would avoid settings for "medium" priority I think this just makes your router not sure of what it's doing. Hope this helps please give me a like if it does.
Appreciate the content, would it be more advantageous to run your ps4 through a router or through the network switch? The nighthawk s8000 does give me some qos functionality.

Hello, I've enjoyed watching many of your videos. I'm hoping you can confirm a few things. I have an Arris Xb6 and I am going to be buying the Netgear s8000 and r7000. Is your router the r7000 P 2300 or the r7000 ac1900 ? Is there a difference, does it matter which one I get ? I only ask because your Amazon link goes to the Xr500. If I understand correctly I don't put the Arris Xb6 in Bridge Mode with it going to Netgear s8000 for Qos with the r7000 in AP mode. Is this correct ? Thank You for you time sir.
Or would it be better to get the xr500 and put my Arris XB6 in bridge mode. You have mentioned before that it cuts your speeds but below you replied to butcherx that Duma OS is a game changer and you would use it if your ISP supported Native bridge mode. My arris XB6 does bridge mode with a tap of a button but I cannot find if it is "Native Bridge Mode" What is Native Bridge Mode and do you know off hand if the Arris XB6 has it ? I've been googling it but can't find out.
Yeah you're pretty much spot on with everything. Sorry about that, yeah mine is the ac1900. In my opinion if your provider let's go change your modem I'd recommend a cm1000 and xr500 instead. A switch and AP is really only useful for more complex networks or people who cannot use their own modem
What is the best router for around 120 dollars to get like a constant 20 ping for Fortnite, I live 10 miles from servers so that’s not a problem but I still get like 70 ping and don’t know why
AlexDutyMTB A new router is not gonna lower your ping to 20, it is really your ISP and how fast they can transfer the data between servers. A routerwon’t change that speed.
hey, I had a question regarding QOS on R700. When I put dynamic it allows me to control down and up speeds. I have 500 down and 20 up from my isp, but when I input 80% of that and run a dsl test the bufferbloat is bad. I have to reduce the speed to 300 for it to be good. Also You said to use dynamic QOS its better. SInce I have 20 upload and the only option is "uplink" it sets it to around 12-15 mbps and that also locks my download speed to that. it takes forever to download things.
John i got 300 down 300 up internet i use ethernet cable I am getting constant 80 ping and no possible way it goes lower no matter what i try its because of how far i live from the host and the routing my ISP does, any way i can lower my ping even in the slightest? anything will help, *please*
i also use the router that the ISP gives me and i think its the lowest ping i can get cuz of range even if i get a gaming router i cant see me getting lower ping

Am I doing something wrong here or is that just how it is?
Recomended AP or Bridge Mode gaming bro?

Netgear nighthawk or asus routers
I keep getting routed to a custom match in multi player games through parental controls where should I look?

I lowered my mtu down because of packet loss using a dual band router as an access point through a dual antenna two way extender that is connecting my router to a main router over 1000 ft away. Getting 50 Mbs Down, 18 Up, with a 10 to 15 ms ping. 5g wifi using Ipv6 through Starlink ISP. Best Dns server I have found, is the new; Control D (unfiltered) or Control D + Ads & Tracking. Only real issue is a frame rate red line, once and a while, which usually clears up in a couple seconds. Seems to only be an issue, in the early morning hours 3 to 5, when Riot pushes Eastcoast users onto Westcoast servers. Thanks for your explanations of network topics, you keep the dialog simple and easy to understand.
What about DTIM interval 1, 35 or 255
For QoS, what happens if I go less than OR more than 70% of the uplink bandwidth maximum?
If I have an open nat on modern warfare is it still good to port forward? And if I were to port forward and add the ports for modern warfare do I add the ports for playstation network as well and would I add these ports in one entry or multiple entry’s?
I need help. Both me and my friends we are on nat type 2. But can't join each other room. I had all my setting right fir gaming. Upnp enable, add ip address, and connect directly.
How come you want to disable upnp if you use port forwarding? You didn't explain why
Great audio and video ❤
What about if you have a modem/router. How do you run it. Ap,router, bridge
hey i love you channel i was wondering if maybe you made any videos that have to do with the R8000 or if they are pretty much the same? and i would really love to try and make my internet run better or at least setup which devices get internet first or the most power or anything like that. thanks so much have a good one. :)
Playstation recommends establishing these ports for the PS4 for a start:
TCP 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
UDP: 3478, 3479
There are other ports which you can also open such as:
TCP: 1935
UDP: 3074
Maybe those will help?
Which qos router is the best one to buy to play FIFA online?
It’s not that deep bro 😂😂
That sounds like a ISP problem if your getting game specific.
I have the r7800 router do you have configuration for that?

Hey John, this comment may not be seen but my question is finer internet that’s hooked up to a ARRIS SB8200 with a Netgear Nighthawk R7800 (soon to be upgraded to a XR500) or fiber internet with AT&T? Your thoughts?
For gaming? It depends I doubt you would notice a significant difference
I'm very aggressive with qos. I set my ps4 to high, everything else to low
Me too I have all the mac addresses to all devices at home and set all to low 👊😉
No
I cannot find QOS link on my router. I see it's below LAN on your system but mine doesn't show that.
Yo john

Appreciate the content, would it be more advantageous to run your ps4 through a router or through the network switch? The nighthawk s8000 does give me some qos functionality.
Depends on your setup IMO
By the way,..How to change ur time zone?? & Thanks for the great vids.

I don’t have an advanced QOS I just have Dynamic QOS. Will that do anything enabling dynamic?
You able to help me out? Ever since I adjusted my settings to match yours, I’m not able to find games as quickly. Like I’m not able to connect with friends and if I do we take long to find games assuming because of me. By the way, I’m not from the states. I stay in Guam, so relatively I always find games with 150-200 ping, which is the usually for where I stay at. Any tips settings recommended for me?
Do you have any suggestions as for what to do regarding VoIP that is blocked by the ISP?
My arris XB6 does bridge mode with a tap of a button but I cannot find if it is "Native Bridge Mode"
What is Native Bridge Mode and do you know off hand if the Arris XB6 has it ?
I've been googling it but can't find out.
Yeah you're pretty much spot on with everything. Sorry about that, yeah mine is the ac1900. In my opinion if your provider let's go change your modem I'd recommend a cm1000 and xr500 instead. A switch and AP is really only useful for more complex networks or people who cannot use their own modem
I am under bridge connection.. Will portforwarding and other stuff work?
What is the best router for around 120 dollars to get like a constant 20 ping for Fortnite, I live 10 miles from servers so that’s not a problem but I still get like 70 ping and don’t know why
AlexDutyMTB A new router is not gonna lower your ping to 20, it is really your ISP and how fast they can transfer the data between servers. A routerwon’t change that speed.
Can you limit speeds on certain devices e.g. if I wanted to limit a laptop to 10mbps download speed max
Yes
I hope I get a WiFi Cord for Christmas
When I go to the routerlogin site it is now completely different and has seemingly none of these options
Thanks john for video 👍🏻
No problem
DNS has no effect on your download speed. Once name resolution is complete DNS is not used.
I can only use dynamic qos should I still use it?
hey, I had a question regarding QOS on R700.
No, I'm not a fan of any auto configured QoS. Anything that allows you to control the total bandwidth and its allocation will be better
Great tutorial 👍🏼
Any tips for the GL-X3000 (Spitz AX)
My Netgear only has a setting for qos on upload. Why no download qos setting ??
its the same for my WNDR3700v4, its just an old router most likely and they won't add a download version.
Good stuff.. Always have issues with specifically setting up Router for Consoles Optimization.
John i got 300 down 300 up internet i use ethernet cable I am getting constant 80 ping and no possible way it goes lower no matter what i try its because of how far i live from the host and the routing my ISP does, any way i can lower my ping even in the slightest? anything will help, *please*
