I understood all of that. You have no idea how hard I've tried to make new things and fail but I'm halfway through making these and understand everything! Im so happy and proud I could cry! Thank you so much! I mean that. Thank you!!!
Ya... me too! See people do it is always easy but when till our time only we can feel this thing is really not easy. Thank you teacher for this clear explanation.👏
...made the mittens after making the hat--even had enough yarn for a matching scarf. The set turned out gorgeous. I wish I could post it here. I must confess, though, that I did pull out both mittens so that I could complete each in single crochet rather than half double crochet. It was the thumb that was giving me difficulties. Attaching the thumb seemed so much easier on the single crochet base, at least for this perfectionist lefty! I also increased the cuffs to 25 stitches so Mom could uncuff her mittens and have extra cozy arms during cold, winter walks in Indiana. Thanks for the patterns! 💗💗💗
Melanie I have only watched my mother crochet (she’s done it for over 60yrs!) and she has tried to teach me...I get lost understanding where in the stitch the next stitch goes because of counting and seeing what she is referring to. Your camera work along with verbalizing what it looks like is very helpful and excellent to follow along. I am grateful for your sharing of how to crochet & am inspired to try crocheting again! Thank You ☺️❣️
I found Melanie after she left this world and I feel the loss. She is an amazing artist and teacher. It makes me very sad that I can’t ask her a question anymore🥰
I have been crocheting for years and I have made many projects and I have followed many tutorials (also I am a teacher.). I consider this the best tutorial I had seen. I appreciate your comments on stitch count and different types of yarn. I think people lose interest in crafting because some patterns and tutorials are so scripted they’re impossible to follow. Thank you
Completed the beanie that is linked to these mittens--came out great! It was my first project ever, and I have to say, you are a great teacher! I also just made one of the mittens and it was a success also! Thank you so much for sharing these cool patterns, Melanie! God bless you :)
Omygoodness!!! I used your tutorial after trying a different one that didn't work so well before and it turned out sooo good! Thanks so much for the tutorial. If anyone else is making this, my tip would be to go through the video very carefully and use the written guide to help where needed
Thanks for the great tutorial. I have only been doing crochet for a week and wanted to make some mittens for my 2 year old. Your method was so easy to adapt the size. I'm so happy with the result :)
What a fantastic tutorial!!! Thank you so much! I will be making these with hats for our local homeless shelter. Just love your video...done perfectly!!
These worked up so fast and I love them! I was looking for a decent mitten pattern to go with a poncho, scarf, and hat set I made. These were perfect and your instructions are wonderful. Thank you!!
This is perfect especially for us Canadians getting dumbed on lately with snow . I’m going away to cottage this weekend this will be a great project for me can’t wait to start ! Hope your recovery is going well ❤️

Just finished a cute pair on this horribly snowy day up here in Ontario...with a few alterations in the length, mine came out perfectly! Thanks so much for this very easy pattern !
Looks like very good instructions. Just tried someone else’s pattern and it was very confusing. I will try to make these tomorrow. You explained everything very well!
I just made these. My yarn was pretty thick, stuff I had around, and they turned out a little stiff. Once I wash them, I'm sure they'll soften up. I've done another easy mitten method, but this is much easier and I like the shape better. I think I did more stitches off the cuff on the first mitten, because the body turned out a little wider, but not that noticeable. And the thumbs were pretty wide so I did a couple decreases on them just to taper a little. I have new yarn coming tomorrow, and I look forward to making more of these! I've made almost the same type of hat as the beginner one here, in the past, and that's also a great hat and very warm. So thanks for the directions. I'm terrible at following regular patterns and counting stitches, but I am ok at winging it, so I like how this is done.
Awesome pattern. I love your pattern, love the longer cuff and cinching up the top of the mitten and thumbhole (I've made so many hats in my life!!) Thank you Miss Melanie! ❤️❤️
This looks fairly easy! I think I'll try it when I make my Mom's mittens! They look super comfy and warm... exactly what she needs. Thanks so much for the tutorial!

Your videos are superb .. please make a crochet sweater for beginners... I really understand your videos only so help me in making one .. thanks n lots of love ❤️❤️💓💓💓
I finished one of the mittens, I think I made my initial chain too tight so my "sleeves" turned out really short and my mitten was a bit loose. I'll try my best to match my second one to the first one, but I will for sure try to improve next time around. Turned out pretty cute though :)
Just found this video and am going to attempt it. MH explains things very well. Just wondering if anyone tried to make these for children here? If so how many rows do you make for the cuff? Obviously the length is just less times around, but unsure how to determine the cuff size. Any thoughts. Thanks.
Hi. I'm stuck at my 10th round after I did the first decreasing stitch. I'm kinda confused about the part where you said "do one half double crochet on each of the round". Does that mean I have to do the decreasing stitches the whole round and only do one half double crochet? It's at 21:41 btw 😊
Melanie I really like the slouchy beanie you are wearing. Will you be doing a tutorial on it and I am going to do the mittens. But here in Australia it's hard to get the same wostered yarn you use but we will try. Love what you do.
Hello - I'm a beginner crocheter and I've only made scarves so far. I tried your mittens as a "next level" project. I've made two mittens and both turned out with the thumb much too wide (not snug to my thumb). Could you suggest why that might be?
I just found this video and am trying to do this, but I'm left handed and the stitch is inside the mitten! Also, the body keeps growing wider and I've ripped it out 5 times already, what am I doing wrong? Help!
I like making mitts but I dislike doing the thumb !Usually when I do the thumb hole I go down 1 size crochet hook ...that’s just the way I do it and it works for me .
Fantastic pattern and very easy to follow, however, you need to put in the Canadian conversion for hook sizes. I have no idea what a K hook is. Ours are in millimetres.

Is two balls of yarn at 100g each
enough to make a pair of these mittens as well as starting with two strands?
If you use a super bulky yarn, do you still have to use two strands since it's thicker?
No. She's doubling the yarn to create a "Bulky yarn".
