i’ve been walking around for the past 5 minutes just repeating “I just made myself a hat” and now i’m wearing it. in august. this is so exciting thank you ahaha
i made me a beanie last night, I was so excited, I was taking pictures, and had to even tag my neice (she is my crochet cheerleader), its an awesome feeling when you make something :)
I am new to crochet, this hat is the first thing I have made for myself and it turned out extremely well. Reading the comments, I realize that this creator has since passed. It is sad to hear, but also amazing that these tutorials are here and continue to help others.
A trick I did with mine is to turn the hat inside out once I sewed it together. That way the seam didn’t show and also the top looked neater. I love my new hat! Thanks, Melanie.
❤️Simply the sweetest best creative tutor. Will always love and remember you ,Melanie.Rest easy Thank you to your family for keeping this You Tube channel. It is testament to how much you are cherished .xx
Melanie, this was the FIRST hat I made and I learned so much from you. Your videos are going to be loved by new crafters for years to come and you will not be forgotten.
This is my first ever crochet project and this hat is so easy to make. Love the tutorial. So I counted the chains and they come up to 75 chains if I have to make it 15 inches.
@@nupur4849 Um, I had to make it a lot longer for it to fit my head. It took me three tries before finally getting the measurement right, and I don't even know how many inches because I didn't measure it ^>^"
This is my first ever pattern I'm using for my first ever crochet project. Even though I've just found your channel, you've already brought positivity into my life with your encouragement and kindness. RIP Melanie, thank you for all you've done. You will be missed xx
Your videos were always educational, clear, but most of all friendly. I have spent many a happy hour with you. Thank you. You will be missed. Rest easy Melanie xxx
You were the reason I gained confidence in crocheting. You were the first video I could follow to make an arm knit blanket so many years ago. You brought so much to the world. Thank you for sharing your skills with us. Wishing your family the best as you rest in peace.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You are absolutely amazing at teaching beginners! I am now FINALLY able to make hats! I just finished one for my nieces birthday on Sunday, and I can’t thank you enough for sharing this with us 💗💗💗💗💗💗
I literally just picked up crocheting today! Watched a few videos and picked this one to learn how to do a beanie…now I don’t want to watch any other creators videos other than hers 😢 when I saw the comments and realized that she is no longer with us, my heart broke! Reading everyone’s comments about how she taught them everything they know is so beautiful. I’m happy to see her legacy is still alive here for all to still enjoy ❤ RIP
Good for you!! I miss Mel so much, it's just doesn't seem real, but it's been almost a year. What a loss for us all and especially for her family. Keep crocheting, Lexi! I'm so glad Robert left her channel as a tribute to this beautiful soul. God bless. ~Cynthia
I just heard of this sweet soul two hours ago looking to make an easy hat. I haven’t crocheted since high school. I consider it an honor I’m able to learn from her at this moment. God bless your memory.
I was looking to make a hat and was trying all different ones, I can't crochet, they were all so difficult and then I stumbled on your video... super simple and easy to understand. All my frustrations turned into excitement to finally be able to crochet... thank you so much🤗
I am a beginner crocheter and this beautiful hat is the first thing I’ve ever made. Your instructions are easy to follow and I’m in love with the hat I made following your tutorial! Thank you! ❤️
You are a wonderful teacher! I’ve been crocheting a blanket and needed a break so I decided to learn how to crochet a beanie. Yours was the first video I clicked on and I love how clear each instruction was! Thank you!!
Hi Melanie, thanks so much for the super-clear tutorial. I've been working up the courage to try crochet - I can sew and I'm a novice knitter but the whole one-hook-and-a-ball-of-yarn thing looks a little scary - but this looks so beginner-friendly that I'm finally going to give it a try! Xx
This is one of the videos I saw and learn how to start to crochet and did my first mittens . Loved all this videos wow Melanie visiting this place and see how water is so so important , clean water. You did so much . Lovely memories of Our sweet Melanie

I've always wanted to be able to crochet my own pieces, but have never really been given a guided tutorial or walk through, so Thank You most kindly, for the wonderfully displayed guided process. ps, Purple is my favorite color.. So I enjoyed it just a bit extra. :D
Melanie so glad your back & just wanted to thank you for this video, I learned crochet from grandma when I was like 9, & swear I couldn't figure it out lately(old age! Lol) I knit with looms & needles, but this video & your awesome instructions I'm getting it!😍🤗 so many more patterns & stitches with crochet!
Great tutorial love the way yours came out! Tip: 15 IN wasn’t big enough for me so i would suggests when your doing your first row of chains/base chains put it around your head to see if both side touch and make sure that its not too tight around you head either.😁👍🏽
The 15 inch chain at the start is for the height of the hat. You need to do enough rows to fit around your head. For example my head is 22 inches so I start with the 15 inch chain and then do enough rows until I get to a rectangle of 15 by 22 inch.
Thank you for making this! Going to try to make this hat for my mama! I made her a scarf (i have only made scarfs and baby blankets lol). Im definitely a beginner so you've made this video easy to follow!❤ Following your projects from now on!
Complete.... thank you for sharing this pattern. I apparently can't measure, because my hat is ginormous, even after taking in about an inch or so... But I love it.
Hi such a great teacher, enjoyed the excellent video tutorial. Pretty hat! I am inspired to make those Mittens too! Never thought I would, but I found my new instructor, lovely Melanie. Thank you 🌹

It’s so sad to come back here and watch her videos. I try to make something from here in a video but it’s to sad for me. I have to go to another video. You will be missed ❤
So the first chain (15 inches) is the actual length of the hat from the forehead to the pom pom if added? And the 21 inches is the circumference of your head? I loved this video I made my first ever hat but it ended up being for a giant 😅
Am I the only one who seems to be having trouble keeping up with where I am?! Ugh The video was incredibly ez to follow and I luv the pattern but sometimes can’t seem to rem if I’ve done one or two of the row I’m on!! (If that makes any sense?!) I started another hat before I saw her story but switched cuz she’s such an inspiration…
In the PDF, is head size and hat cirumference what you want? So her hat, for an adult woman, is likely around a 15" by 21" rectangle when she slip stitches together?
Personally I like using either an I/9 or an H/8 and then medium weight yarn which is size 4 I’m a beginner too and most of my projects have called for that
i am making my first crochet hat and i love it! but i have a question. i’m making the big rectangle of crochet, and my left and right sides are slanting in, so it looks more like a triangle than a rectangle. did anyone else have the same problem? any tips?
I think I made the stitches too tight or something, I attempted this and used a whole ball of yarn, didn’t get it even a third as large as yours and feels way too stiff so I think I accidentally made a pot holder. I’m attempting it again with a thinner yarn, size 4 instead of size 6. I also didn’t use quite the right size hook so maybe that’s part of it? I used an 8mm instead of 9mm, so a small difference, I just don’t have a 9mm hook so I had to improvise
Idk what I’m doing wrong but the first time I did this it’s looked like a pyramid so I started over with a different color and so far it looks ok but I feel it’s starting to do the same thing again... what am I doing wrong?!?

how do i determine which is the right side?🤔
I did the same and it worked really well! Especially the top where you pull it together looks better if it's turned inside out afterwards ❤️

Is it okay if i start my single crochet by inserting it in the back loop??
Thats what i did since i had smaller yarn it was harder to pit it through both

Could you please tell me the length of the yarn used? Thank youu you are sooo helpful 🥰✨

So does she mean do the standard and then 2 of the back and the 2 standard than 2 back than 2 than to over and over?

make sure you chain one before turning and starting each row and don’t skip the last stitch, they can be hard to see sometimes
What size hook did u use? And what ply yarn? The hat is amazing!
You can use whatever you want. Just make sure your starting chain is 15 inches.
Can you add more inches on the foundation chain depending on your head size or do you have to make it 15 inches long? Thank you
I think I made the stitches too tight or something, I attempted this and used a whole ball of yarn, didn’t get it even a third as large as yours and feels way too stiff so I think I accidentally made a pot holder.
