  • We take the Skoda Kodiaq for a semi-autonomous drive with the purpose of testing the "Lane Assist" package. TURN ON subtitles for explanations.

Lane Assist makes corrective steering movements in some cars of the Volkswagen Group, like with this Skoda Kodiaq. Lane Assist is an optional package. In this video I drive the car as "hands free" as possible to show you what the car can do autonomously and what not.
However, this is a driver assistance tool, not a fully autonomous system. That is why you are supposed to keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times. You are still responsible for possible accidents. In this video I'm driving as hands free as possible for "scientific/journalistic" purposes.
As you can see in the video, it is technically possible to drive without hands on the wheel for about 15 seconds, depending on the circumstances.
In the end of the video I try Park Assist, a feature that helps you with parking.

Using the lane assisst without lanes is a little bit risky..

Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, small bag of weight, and you've got a great car for motorway cruising!!!

I'm sure the system would work very well in a country where they have proper roads.

This is just "lane assist", not the "adaptive lane assist". This one is just adding a little pressure to get you back to your lane, but it does not keep you between the lane center!
Adaptive lane assist comes with higher specs, or if you order one.

works on standard euro roads with new lines very good. unfortunately autonomous only 12 second. When you next 10 seconds not touch steering wheel , car brake sharply. I appreciate extend this time for 40 seconds like BMW use

He used the bag which he stucked into the control so it gives the car the feeling of someones holding it, it is pressure sensitive the control

From some other videos on the "schwaben-checker" youtube channel, of the arteon and the t-roc, it looks like the VW group is going, for the new VW models, toward a change in their lane assist techology: it seems they want now to make it less active and only to prevent the vehicle from leaving the lane. I have experienced the lane assist of the golf 7 (1.6 tdi from 2013) and it VERY active and it is GREAT. It looks like the one on this skoda kodiak you have in your video: very active, it keeps you in the center always... I bet some customers complained that they didn t like it, and the VW engineers decides to make it less agressive for newer models...🤔... If is a trend that is confirmed (less agressive lane assit from VW cars), i would find it to be a shame... :

x200 x6000000 I have a 2016 golf 7, and mine works as you say. It keeps the car in the center of the lane if there are clear lane markings. I have not tested newer models, but it would be a pity if they change it as it should be better, not worse...

Do any of the VW brands have a Lane assist that works on roads that dont have lines on the right side, but only striped lines in the middle ?

Lane assist is only bouncing you from line to line, you need adaptive lane guidance to stay in the middle of the lines at all time.
