He plays with so much colour. Many players should look to violinist to see how they use colour on their instrument. Guitar is massively versatile also and therefore we should look to find all these colours in the instrument. Matheus has really paid attention to this and switches effortless into so many sounds which keeps the listener fixed on the music. Great job Matheus:)
Seriously I just started playin guitar last year2021. This guy brought me to tears, ill never forget the first time I witnessed the skills this man has aquired ... wow truly a gift to witness this thankyou
He follows the progression well and slams it down so well staying melodic and true to the piece. But in doing so also gives himself so much room to have fun with it - the stylish flare and soul he puts behind his notes is accentuated so much more powerfully sticking to his chordal lines and melodic themes/ideas interwoven into them. Just such a fantastic player and so much personality in his playing.... Thanks for the share man.
What a gift he’s been given, and what work he’s put in to develop it technically. He’s been my favorite guitarist for the last few years. He encompasses pretty much everything I love about guitar. Amazing!!
Just absolute goosebumps; this man is INCREDIBLY gifted. I swear I could listen to his playing forever. His voicings are sublime, execution is perfect. Has incredible soul in his playing; it's extremely vocal at times. And he really limits the shredding to small doses. Geez.
His accuracy and melodies are incredible. So are his melodic tones. He's as good as anybody. Also he uses Joe Satriani as an influence. A true melodic influence.
I feel a disturbance in The Force. It is like millions of guitarists screamed out in unison, "I QUIT!!" You are an amazing player, Mateus!!! Thanks for the inspiration.
First time i heard him play that it almost brought me to tears ironically, hes so talented and truly a unique musician that doesn’t rely on gear to achieve the same sound of a player’s inspiration. Hes up there as one of the best guitarists for his sheer unique sound and style. He deserves to be incredibly famous
Don't wanna be a hater here-I love Mateus' playing-but very few people in the music industry would say he's the best session guitarist in the world. He's soulful, technical, a good person, and can go fast or slow, but that's not all of it.
He is nowhere near the best session guitarist in the world. He is a fantastic guitarist, but there is no way he comes close to Lukather, Graydon, Thompson, Pierce, Landau, Bukovac etc.
You really can’t find anyone who could play any better as far as speed and grace, as they all have their own unique qualities using their fingers for picking and tone! He’s pretty much a virtuoso!
The thing Mateus Asato has that the best always do, is he knows what it will sound like before he plays.. unless you have that talent, you can never play like this.. not quite perfect pitch but extremely advanced developed 'ear' talent nonetheless.. he can sing every note as he's playing and knows how to play what he hears in his head without making a mistake..
People who feel discouraged watching this shouldn't be, you have to remember that at the minimum in this video he was already playing for 14 years, 14 years of actual Practice not being lazy. if you play this much you would be the same, maybe not in the same area, but you would average the same skill level, just work hard. and don't give up.
Funny I actually found Mateus a few years ago through a random Asian kid covering his Don’t Dream it’s Over. I was like if the cover was this good got to find the original and was like 😲. Still wish I could play that arrangement that well.
Can’t remember who the Asian guy was. It was like 3 years ago. By kid I mean like college aged. Yes I know Mateus is Brazilian like my wax job 🤐. Learn to read Ramos. Jeez
@@zman9811 he ain't bad? That's a bold understatement. So much of the reason I even make that statement is because of the phrasing and music type that he plays. I'm not into legato or shredding out the ass in order to be determined the best guitar player. I usually say "all things considered" because there are so many variables
@@AyYoSteve I disagree. He’s just another drop in the ocean of the new trend of social media guitarist. I follow over a thousand guitarists on Instagram and I could pick a random link in the list of people I follow and the chances are high that I’d hit the page of someone that would be just as good as this guy. I can name at least 10 off the top of my head just now but just to save time I will mention 3 just to show you that its not just about shredding for me - Joshua Meader, Matteo Mancuso and 16 year old Max Ostro. Btw don’t assume I’m saying Mateus is bad, he reminds me a bit of Nick Johnston actually, and that’s a good thing.
You know what’s funny, you’re right and they also don’t realized there are guitarist this good in most major music programs. I’ve gone to school with people who are astonishing and no one knows about them.
Love Mateus’ playing, but when the hell are we going get an actual album of songs from him? Been seeing him for years on UA-cam and I need some music. Lol.
im more drawn into how his right hand was moving.. from picking with a pick to finger picking, changing pups, using whammy and unconsciously move it a way in split secs then pull it back for the specific part of the riff that lasts for like a sec.. then this.. then that... this sentence is way too long. you got the point. hahaha
Let me know how your top 3 would look like!
Top 3? That's going to be hard man. Let's just stick to your top 11, cause they all sound amazing! 😁
All
All too , but number 4 is the best 👈😎🎸

His tone is his own. A true musician, and doesn’t rely on gear and pedals to get his sound. Hes amazing

Orgulho de ser Brasileiro!🇧🇷
Fire em up, Asato 🤟🏻🎸
Ah yes - the trio with Tim and Pete - this set off a whole search for more of his music what a poetic guitar player wow!!
That’s how I found him as well!

Geez.
I think there is something extra good with the tone he gets with the Gretch guitar. This video convinced me with all the guitars his plays.
It's amazing to watch what he does with the pick when he's not using it. What a fascinating player. Makes me want to play more or just quit.
Go with the playing more. We all have something to contribute
Love the jam with Tim Pierce. The whole jam has a slightly Bill Frisell kind of feel. Fabulous.
His accuracy and melodies are incredible. So are his melodic tones. He's as good as anybody. Also he uses Joe Satriani as an influence. A true melodic influence.
Crying in the loop gets me all the time

Best compilation EVER
I know it's not near as difficult as his other pieces, but the licks from the last song are hauntingly beautiful
probably the best session guitarist in the world, soulful, technical, good person, can go fast or slow.

@@obhmusic Don’t forget Dan Huff. Probably played on hundreds of albums.

around 9:20 genius...this guy is the best in many dimensions of music: sensibility, creativity, domain of instrument. Great talent from Brasil

1:20 those lines touching my nerves directly! amazing!
Geeeezus, that bent pinch harmonic @2:05 in this video sounds so damn good. Maybe the highest pinch I've heard but it's so clean.
So much quality.
Nr. 9 and Nr. 3 are insane
F.. Ing hell. This is just something different. Guy is like from another planet. So smooth yet extremaly dynamic. What kind of sorcery is that?
The piece at 13:26 is just what I needed to hear today.
Incredible musicality! Soothing and explosive.
Keep doing your thing!!!
#7 touched my heart so much 😌 this musician’s got it
Amazing tone from that Gretsh
Even his rests are awesome - I’ll work on playing those.
Brasil celeiro de bons musicos!
Beautiful. Emotional. Important.

Nice, thx for all the good videos
This is another level stuff!
uh...... this dude is amazing. i really like Mancuso, but oh boy, this is another level
10:52 This is where Mateus really gets cooking with some smooth guitar playing.
John Cordy's backing track? Check him
If a solo is not about telling a narrative but is about the soloist skills it becomes acrobatics.
Perfect, exquisite and precise
At around 8min there's something I think I can play if I practice a lot.

The solo at 1:38 is so damn creative. Gonna feel like a hack the next time I pick up my guitar 😭

Fast or slow I always get amused when people say best. One person's best may not be someone else's. Listen to what you like. It's not the olympics.
I love how in the first one, he had to repeatedly lean his face back from the guitar to save melting his OWN face off.
Agreed.
Nr 7. With his White Gretsch, so many dimensions .........
After listening to this, my favorite 3 Mateus Asato solos are Matteo Mancuso solos.
With fingers that long anybody can play this good :-). Seriously, Awesome flow!
