I was a little uncertain about the civ switching but now super excited to do the Han to Ming seems like that is really to progress how the area actually progressed and you are not fighting France in the ancient times. Really wish the leader also switched with age change.
They seem to want to make the leader be an avatar for you. Like *you* are the leader, and stick around the whole game, even as the civ underneath you morphs, evolves, and changes. Cause the leader has its own tree of unlockable benefits in-game now, like social policies, that can seemingly apply passive benefits to whatever civ you're currently playing as. Or at least, that's how I understand it to be.
Japan being in the modern age raises questions for me - will we not see samurai as a unique unit? How can they hope to be useful in the age of cannons and muskets?
Japan (fortunately) has a pretty straightforward history, so I’m hoping Japan (and a few others) has a straight path and the “historical path” isn’t miles away in West Africa

According to the dev's comment on the r/Civ subreddit, they didn't look at calendar dates but more so which civs from a region most closely aligned to how they were planning to develop each age, hence why Khmer shows up as Antiquity when the Khmer Empire starts at 800 CE and hits it's peak in the span of the 1100s to the 1200s
We haven't heard much about the modern age but we can assume that england will be a modern age nation from Norman's also. I'm interested to see how we get to the US though. I'm pretty confident there will be an ottoman empire as the modern nation option for civs like Egypt and persia. I have a hard time thinking through what nations make the 10 nation cut it every age gets 10 like antiquity: England France Germany/Prussia Russia/USSR US Japan China Ottoman Certainly we get Modern African nation like the Zulu Native American nation, Iroquois? India Im already at 11 that feel core for me but im guessing we could see brazil or a south east asian nation since khmer exsist. Theres plenty more directions they could go thiugh
I am repulsed at the core with this idea of separating leaders from their Civilizations. I'm sure there will be mods within a month of release that will tie leaders to their respective nations and I don't intend to play the game without those mods.
Sure, to some extent that is just an inevitability simply because not every civ will have a clean progression through the ages. But also a lot of it is just a volume issue, the more civs that get added to the game the more logical the progression can be.
I think it would have been cool if the starting “civ” choice was based around a language group. Some starting regional bonuses, then forking in to the different branches and trajectories of the group. I.e. choose “Latin” and starting with Rome buffs, then forming into Iberians, Franks and Lombards, then into modern Mediterranean or even Latin American civs. “Nordic” could start as Norsemen, then to Saxon, Kiev Rus, or Swedes, then to modern Denmark, Sweden or English. Would be a fascinating journey through time and history for the Slavs, Sanskrit, Sino, Semitic, Germans, Celts, Austronesian etc. Hopefully stop any cultural cringe that Civ 7 may be flirting with
Hating it so far... I hate the forced idea of changing the original civ instead of, for example, choosing additional features to build on and allowing it to evolve in a desired direction.
No Russia, Britain or Germany? No Persia and Carthage? Sumerian and Babylon? Incas and the Aztecs? US is also pretty relevant in modern history. No Portuguese and Spanish in the exploration age? Also i'd love to see the Vikings. Civ will feel pretty weird without these ad on
The issue I see with the US in Civ 7 has to do with the root mechanic making you choose a different civ at each age, cause the US was created out of nowhere in the modern age so which path would they add it in
@@dustin7405 I mean i *get* them but i agree. Otherwise from Rome in the antiquity age we could branch to Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Byzantine and so much more In the same way we could go from France to the Carolingian Empire to either France again or Germany But in the case of the US it's very particular cause it was created out of nothing with no heritage or history to claim in the modern era
I assume the USA, England, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Brazil will all be featured at some point. Maybe Portugal, Australia, and hopefully African, South East Asian and Polynesian civs, too 😃
Will all these civs have their own leaders or will it just be a leader per “branch”? Also, is it too much to hope for a Chamorro civ? Probably as an antiquity civ branch for Oceanian civs?

In addition they can choose someone from Seljuk Empire or Turkic Khaganate. Turkish history is bigger and older than Ottoman history. Please consider this Firaxis!!
For Greece the pathway should be Greeks ~> Byzantium ~> Hellenic Republic (modern day Greece). I think a Rome ~> Byzantium ~> Hellenic Republic, Italy or Yugoslavia would work too if there needs to be variety.

It will be fun if you can select either in modern ages Ukraine or Russia, after playing as Kyivan Rus in antiaue ages.
Japan being in the modern age raises questions for me - will we not see samurai as a unique unit? How can they hope to be useful in the age of cannons and muskets?
The announcement specifically mentioned it was "Meiji Japan", so Japan is probably in multiple ages like China having Han and Ming.
Yeah Japan will probably have Samurai in its Exploration age. Japan will be represented in all three ages with some changes between each ages.
Japan (fortunately) has a pretty straightforward history, so I’m hoping Japan (and a few others) has a straight path and the “historical path” isn’t miles away in West Africa
Maybe there’s gonna be kamikaze-planes
They need a unique unit kamakaze planes
2:24 “Han is a grower and a show-er” is CRAZY
this game is so pretty, cant wait for it to come out so i can play civ v
Other ones: Inca, Aztec, and Hawaiians are definitely available as we saw some screenshots.
How come there is no Ottomans????? They have been one of the star factions among the past CIVS
Trying so hard to be like Humankind, which I tried for a while before going back to civ6😢
Waiting for Austronesian civ in antiquity age which will give option to majaphahit, srivijayan, pacific islanders in exploration age and the modern day counties such as Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, New Zealand in the modern age with the option to go USA in modern if you choose Pacific islands.
I can't imagine an Antiquity age without Carthage. I hope it's in the base game !
This video got me to finally subscribe. Dunno why I haven't yet. You're on it with the news! Thanks my dude, for helping me keep track over my newest game obsession. ✌😄
Giving civs a huge production bonus towards "their" wonder is very railroady and dumbed-down.
They only need to add Rwanda, Swaziland and Somalia.
Do we know what sort of timelines do the "Antiquity, Discovery, Modern" sort of fit in? Would like both the Carolingian empire and the Holy Roman Empire fit into Discovery?
I have a hard time thinking through what nations make the 10 nation cut it every age gets 10 like antiquity:
England
France
Germany/Prussia
Russia/USSR
US
Japan
China
Ottoman
Certainly we get Modern African nation like the Zulu
Native American nation, Iroquois?
India
Im already at 11 that feel core for me but im guessing we could see brazil or a south east asian nation since khmer exsist. Theres plenty more directions they could go thiugh
I am repulsed at the core with this idea of separating leaders from their Civilizations. I'm sure there will be mods within a month of release that will tie leaders to their respective nations and I don't intend to play the game without those mods.
This civ hopping is so weird and the options of civs you can jump to seem very arbitrary.
Sure, to some extent that is just an inevitability simply because not every civ will have a clean progression through the ages. But also a lot of it is just a volume issue, the more civs that get added to the game the more logical the progression can be.
I haven't heard of most of the second era civs before, I agree it's concerning.
They are just stealing the idea from a game that tried to rival them and failed. This company is now copying failed copies of itself.
Hopefully stop any cultural cringe that Civ 7 may be flirting with
What song did he use for when he was talking about Han China
Does Maurya get a Balrog unit?
Hating it so far... I hate the forced idea of changing the original civ instead of, for example, choosing additional features to build on and allowing it to evolve in a desired direction.
would love to see my country Hungary again in Civ :)
That's a game changer for me, It's the only reason I even bought Civ 6 LOL
Can wait to play this game 😅
How else they going to sell dlc
No Russia, Britain or Germany? No Persia and Carthage? Sumerian and Babylon? Incas and the Aztecs? US is also pretty relevant in modern history. No Portuguese and Spanish in the exploration age? Also i'd love to see the Vikings. Civ will feel pretty weird without these ad on
This is just some of the civs, why assume none of those will be in it?
The issue I see with the US in Civ 7 has to do with the root mechanic making you choose a different civ at each age, cause the US was created out of nowhere in the modern age so which path would they add it in
@@deneguil-1618 the changing civs each era doesn’t make sense to begin with. With any of them.
@@dustin7405 I mean i *get* them but i agree. Otherwise from Rome in the antiquity age we could branch to Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Byzantine and so much more
In the same way we could go from France to the Carolingian Empire to either France again or Germany
But in the case of the US it's very particular cause it was created out of nothing with no heritage or history to claim in the modern era
Yay, Napoleon is back!
Would be neat in order to unlock the Colosseum you 1st have to sack another civilizations Holy cities like in real life
I assume the USA, England, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Russia, and Brazil will all be featured at some point. Maybe Portugal, Australia, and hopefully African, South East Asian and Polynesian civs, too 😃
Wondering from which civs USA and Brazil will come from. Or maybe they'll only be in the modern age?
@@MrAdik861 The US should come from England and Brazil should come from Portugal (who should come from Rome).
It would be awesome if Vlad Țepeș would show up in Civ7
Will all these civs have their own leaders or will it just be a leader per “branch”?
Also, is it too much to hope for a Chamorro civ? Probably as an antiquity civ branch for Oceanian civs?
It would be absurd not to have Mesopotamia civ in antiquity..absolutely absurdity, but then again the game looks absurd so it would not surprise me
I have the distinct fear that south america will be completely reserved for a DLC. Also its wild we havent heared anything about Russia or Germany or Scandinavia.
Greece's special unit should be a trireme with kickass attack strength (greek fire)
It should be spartans!
Would be great to see Venezuela (Not Gran Colombia) as a civ, whether with Simón Bolívar or with Marcos Pérez Jiménez as the leader.
I just hope that USA isn't boring or lame as it is in 90% of 4x games. Never feels like a reflection of how it is in real life (good or bad)
Please no more Suleimans. I dont know if the Turks (or Ottomans) will be in base game but enough with the Suleiman the Magnificient! In almost every civ game, the leader was Suleiman but we have more great leaders in our history like Mehmed the Conqueror, Osman Ghazi or Mustafa Kemal Atatürk "The Father of the Turks".
Dang no Persia :(
Is 9:29 Hanging Garden Babylon?
The Civilizations seem kinda similar. But the graphics are nice
If you go on the official website game guides, there's a lot more to them like unique Traditions and more buildings I think.
@@Oudri125 yeah, seems very in-depth. I still want more than 1 unique unit, like come on, Egypt can have Medjay AND chariots, and Rome can have Onagers or something.
Refers to Han China as “a grower and a shower” 💀
Waiting for the ottomans
I am so excited for this game, it’s literally ruining my enjoyment of other games
Hold on, I wasn't following any Civ 7 news and I thought I'd just see what civs they have. If I understand this correctly here... you change civilization as you advance through the ages? That is... definitely not what I'd want to play, to put it mildly. Half the fun of it for me was making Egyptians go to space and stuff like that. I don't want to turn them into Arabs because Arabs conquered them IRL.
I like it because it gives some history information the thing I like the most about civ. Than again im a history, geopolitics geek.
This mechanic is doomed to fail
I’ll buy it day one if Ulysses s Grant is a leader or general
5:47 wrong! It's not their debut. There was the Khmer and Indonesia Civilization & Scenario Pack in Civ 6, released in 2017.
I dont understand Buganda as a modern civ vs. say Ethiopia which could have stretched out over 2 eras or Nigeria for a modern era
I’m still hoping for a Lithuania Civ. Maybe one day.
Should be from Kievan Rus, but I guess a DLC
Hope Brazil appears, I don't mind if it's on a base game or a DLC
Guess i have to wait for persia DLC
I was very very skeptical at first. But my godness, this game is going to be fire!
Why is there no Thai or Ayutthaya civ?!
-_-
The Antiquity age & the Exploration age & the modern age
Khmers(or khom)--->ayutthaya--->siamese
You have to learn history dude. You got Khmer.
One of the biggest critiques of Humankind was how awkward and epheremal the civ-switching mechanics. People didn't like it.
For some reason, civ 7 has implemented the *hated* core feature of a failed civ clone. Its astonishingly, mind-numbingly stupid.
I hope they will add Russia (or ancient Rus) along with Ivan IV (I'm really tired of only Modern age civs for Russia tbh)
That is the original kingdom which started in ukraine so would begreat to get that.
I hope Brazil shows up in some announcement 🙏🙏
Just give me dragon drones in modern era and im happy.
So are we getting games where you only get five or six civilisations in game at a time? I'm sorry but this is not looking very epic.
