- Is it too expensive? Too regulated? Too touristy? Too boring?! Or just too darn BLUE?!?
One thing's for sure...the beauty of Bora Bora is unmatched - with a crystal clear turquoise lagoon, lush green peeks, and white sandy beaches...it sounds like a sailor's dream, right? But, many full-time sailors don't come here anymore. They say the place has been spoiled. Are they justified? We wanted to find out for ourselves. So before our time in French Polynesia expired, we did the un-hip thing and sailed to Bora Bora! 5:44 I'm with you! It's SO funny when people start sailing and SUDDENLY there is no left or right, it's always starboard or port. Bathrooms become "heads". Miraculously kitchens become "galleys". WHY? Just call them when you always call them. The "experienced cruisers" might frown but they are too busy pulling ropes because they didn't specify automatic furlers... it's more "authentic" that way. Meh.

I should point out that for dry and canned goods, the "expiration date" is really just a suggestion. Many foods last long after that date. Even milk can sometimes last much longer than the specified time. It's up to the buyer to know if something has spoiled or not.

2:37 Yeah, they BETTER be able to launch those when the seas are rough. Those are actually lifeboats. 🙂 On the one hand, the crew gets traiining on lifeboat launching in every port. On the other, the wear and tear must be quite significant.

At first I thought it was odd. They aren’t exactly pretty. But the function can’t be beat and it saves the cruise ship companies from doubling up on launch boats.

In Polynesia you really start sounding like a growing 1-year-old. You go from "eeva-oh-ah" to "pape-ete" to "ta-ah-ah" to "bora'-bora". On the way to "choon-choon-chara". 😀Yes, Tjuntjunjara is an actual place... on the way from Kangaroonia to Koalandia. Once you cross the equator, it never stops. 😀
It sure is beautiful there! I'd love to visit on a sailboat someday...

I was there in 1974 for a month and in 1977 for a month. It was incredible before the tourists got there nd even bac then our hut on the beach and one over the water was right around $1,000 per night for the rooms and what we spent on food. Hotel Bora Bora

They were super polite every interaction we had with them.

Our family visited this enchanting island on a Princess Cruise ship almost 28 years ago. It was so expensive there, our shopping was limited fir sure! We have heard that cruisers are Not treated very well and the fee’s for mooring were ridiculous to say the least! We have chosen not to visit again just for those reasons. The French are all about the money and how much they can get out of the tourists!
With a brand like Bora Bora and the beauty, people will keep coming.

Here in the states those buy before dates are not so much monitored like they used too. It's more like the purchasers responsibility. Hell, I have even opened up a package of lunch meat to find that the product was repackaged, but just placed in a cardboard cover package with a new date. The original package with an expired date was inside this new package. They took the time and money to deceive the purchasers. I was buying for my cat anyways, but it did burn me! I was amazed at how good the meat looked being 2 months expired. I no longer would feed my animals that toxic crap.

@@sailing_scout Sickening for sure. You definitely have to be aware of exactly what your eating now more than ever. Nano-nites or bots can have you think your eating one thing like let's say Mac and cheese but it could be turd. No bull! These micro/bot/processors also can receive signal from tower and cause people to buy. Big $$ at work. Case and point..I hated this particular snack. Most grocery stores have an isle or half an isle of all different flavors.. All day my mind kept telling my that I want to go buy some. It was very annoying knowing that I really dislike them. That evening, Friday evening I stopped off at my Buds place before going home. We were having a few beers and I told how I kept getting this annoying urge to go buy those corn chips .. He and his girl looked at each other, then me and started laughing. I was pissed thinking they were laughing at me like the tin hat guy. I went to walk out and they said wait and look here. They too was hunting done those chips in between jobs all day and most stores were empty! They bought whatever was left at each store. The last grocery store only had a few bags. They bought them. On the way to the register the store manager approached them and asked, "did you find everything you needed ". They replied yes but we wanted more of " "., but we grab the last. He said, " no way I just signed that vendors invoice and walked the isle and it was fully stocked". They went to the isle and he was shocked!!!
BTW My friends opened up all there cabinet doors and pantry. They fully stocked with said corn chips. They moved the can goods ect. to there closet... Your children have a lot to thank you for!!!

Can I just ask why you are not wearing your lifevests when the winds are so strong and even risking the children running around without it. Anything can happen out there. It is basic safety regulations. Sorry just saying its reckless. Otherwise enjoying your videos.
