  • Posted by the International Al Jolson Society, www.jolson.org, this is an excerpt of the 28 Apr 1949 Kraft Music Hall, starring Al Jolson with Doris Day, illustrated with images of the stars, real and composite, to get a feeling for the broadcast. In this edited segment, Al Jolson sings "You'll Always Be Beautiful" and "That Wonderful Girl Of Mine," Doris Day and Al Jolson do a great duet, and there is a comedy segment with Ken Carpenter and Oscar Levant featuring the usual assortment of blown lines and gags. The complete broadcast, along with other Jolson radio shows, is available at the Official Al Jolson Website at www.jolson.org, from its posting through the end of May.

I loved, loved, loved this. So refreshing & original. Doris was so young & on the up and up. What talent. Al & Oscar were great. Thank goodness these podcasts were well-preserved. Thanks for posting.

A lot of people would likely think Al Jolson and Doris Day were of complete different generations. Obviously not, and brilliantly too!

Thanks for bringing back some of my own memories of sitting on the floor in front of my parents floor model Motorola radio. I even can remember Intersanctum. How about Fiber Megee and Mollie? Bob Hope all star show. Can even remember my mother singing all of these songs and I love singing along. It is a keeper! What happens when WE are all gone? Hopefully we will walk into another show where we are going.
