Im 3 years post op from an aortic mechanical valve replacement. Almost immediately I was experiencing double vision, deja vu type “seizures”, and vertigo. I learned to live with these inconveniences, and my cardiologist stated this is common after being on a heart-lung pump. As of 1 day ago I experienced my first TIA, and was rushed to the ER with arm numbness and inability to speak. My INR was in range, as well as my CT, MRI, and blood work. Like I said, I’ve learned to live with it, but after this TIA real fear has started to settle in. I am 26 years old, and I don’t want my life to be crippled by TIAs, or worse, a stroke. I hope you’re doing well, as we take this journey together…

I hope you are doing really good! I'm facing this surgery soon...I had a mild heart attack on Fathers Day of this year...they say my heart is strong and no blockages but I have moderate to severe leaky mitral valve regurgitation. Thst was 4 months ago...I dont have another appointment till Jan 22 for a echocardiogram. This waiting and wondering if it's gotten worse is driving me crazy..lol...I dont have any symptoms, not short of breath, not really tired and actually feeling very good, just always nervous something is going to happen. I'm waiting tables still with no problems. I actually was lucky enough to meet with a surgeon at KU because my daughter knew someone and they called me. He told me in a perfect world I should have my surgery this month( Nov) I saw him Sept 10th, but I have no insurance until Jan 1st.so he said we could hold off...that worries me...I saw my cardiologist for a short minute snd told him what this surgeon said and he told me not to worry that we have time. The fact that no one has really looked in 4 months to see if it has gotten worse freaks me out...

Hey Stephanie! You’re such a good role model! “They” don’t tell you about the cascade of issues that follow OH surgery or how essential good attitude and medical sleuthing are. Your videos remind me to take this all seriously and not relent. (I’m a couple weeks shy of a year). A plant based diet and exercise have been my most significant contributions to a better outcome but I need to do better. Attitude produces results and your attitude has helped mine. Thanks! (Prayer does the rest and I’m praying for you). Regards!
