I'm just wondering whether you checked menu settings for 019 Rear Keyer Type.
FTDX-3000 has separate menu settings for Front and Rear key input. I'm sure you did, but just checking

I've had my 3000 for 3 years, and use the "bar" meter 99% of the time. I stopped using the fake analog meter simply because its not as realistic or responsive as a true analog meter. I'll have to see if I get the same lack of ALC reading on the analog meter. That said, I agree with your responses below. The 3000 is a tremendous transceiver and particularly an AMAZING receiver. I connected it to a full wave 80m loop once and what I could hear was mind blowing, especially in late fall through early spring with no T-storms. I got it for $1200 and can't see spending another $2K for what little upgrade there is with the FTDX101D. Sure the big fast 3D waterfall is cool, but its one more thing to break. And the 101D's receiver is the 3000's down conversion architecture ahead of an SDR. So maybe some better filtering in the 101D, but its splitting hairs. Someday I may sell everything and get an 890S....maybe. Thanks for the videos!!! de Cliff W3KKO

I was so close to buying one of these Chuck and then something else came up that needed the money. I got laid off work and went to buy one with my money from work and found they stopped making them! I ended up with the FTdx10 and that is just awesome. Can’t wait for the unun videos. I want to make a multi tap unun for portable use. I’m gonna hold off until I’ve seen your videos. I want to build it the Blowzo way 😬📻👍🏻. 73 de Will, M0LGW

Would you buy a used FTdx 3000? What would you suggest as a price?

I absoslutely would! Oh my God, this transciever is SPECTACULAR. These are exceedingly complicated machines and it doesn't surprise me that i've had a failure on the dit line. I' a retired biomedical engineer. I made a life-long living due to the failure of medical devices. I've had people's jaws drop open in horror when they say "you mean a heart-lung bypass machine can fail during a heart surgery?" and their look gets even more horrified and I say "oh, yeah, they sure do. No machine is perfect- or even close to it". lol.
This Rx is so far beyond being 'good'... it is absolutely stunning.
The perfect mix of crystal roofing filters, analog IF chain then DSP. The sound is unbelievable.
I bougt this rig for only ONE reason though: I kept hearing people say that it has the most warm, tuble-like sound they've ever heard. And it DOES. It sounds glorious... the first Rx I've heard that sounds as good on SSB as my beloved old Heathkit SB101.

My 7600 in order to use the internal keyer you have to use the jack up front. The rear jack is for
external keyer or straight key only, by design. Not crazy about that myself.

    • @n8nkqrp595
      @n8nkqrp595  3 роки тому

Huh. Seems everyone does it different, and differently on some of their own rigs. lol. I love the way they did it on mine, as each are completely independent of each other and each capable of any keying mode. If that weren't the case, I'd have to use the front jack and I'd be pissed off. I hate cables plugged into the front. And BTW, I'd FREAKIN' LOVE an Icom 7600! Oh my God, that is one of the two most beautiful rigs ever built in my opinion. The other is the TS-890. Both exceedingly expensive. lol. Take care Johnny :)

I have a 3000 for years and it works great. It is too much of an assumption to say what is your problem. ALC only if you have too much power and it will power back. You need a more detailed video for the problem

On the 590 and 890 makes no difference if you use front or rear jack, both access the internal keyer

On this one tho, front a rear are completely separate. Controlled separately in software and independent in hardware. Thus, the rear key jack cannot be used with the internal keyer due to the dit line failure. No such failure on the F jack. I've already had it apart an done some troubleshooting. Each of the 4 lines- dit F and R, dah F and R, have a pull-up resistor going to +12v and a switching diode. Then the signal is applied to the CPU. In my case, the resistor isn't cooked, the diode is fine, no mechanical failures like an interconnect cable connector (very common), etc. I need to do another session with it if I want to fix it. I stopped because I figured I might record it.. and I just wanted it back together to use. lol. Since I use an external keyer, and always will, the dit line failure in back isn't a deal breaker: I set the jack to 'bug mode' and then the dah line keys the rig with no internal keyer action. I connect the dah line to the keyer output. Know what's a trip? Using an external keyer but having the internal one too. Dits are ok but sometimes double..and a dah unleashes a string of 'em from the internal keyer. Set the speeds right and you can get a beautiful watery fluttering... lol. That would completely confound people :)

Yeah, you're right.. I know I have to, and that it might fix the problem. So far I've been too lazy to list the menu changes I like such as mic eq, etc. lol. I'll do so in the next few days though. It must be done next as a troubleshooting step. 73 :)

@@n8nkqrp595 There is a freeware program called "FTRestore" where you supposedly can save the FTDX3K menu and memory settings. I haven't tried it yet tho.

My FT-950 has a similar problem: paddels on the front with the internal keyer = no problem.
paddles on the rear with the internal keyer = only dits and no dah's,...
I have tried every setting in the menu that concerns CW according to the manual, but no succes.
The only reason I would like to put the paddles on the rear is to have one cable less on the front.
So, maybe it's a Yeasu thing???
Keep up the good work: love your video's!!!

I realize that your comment is eight months old. Did you make sure that keyer type is not set to "Bug". Bug would only generate dits internally. The bug itself (maybe a Vibroplex bug) would manually handle the dahs.
