I also demonstrate the level at which I run my ALC and compression.
Not mentioned in the video is that my PROC setting was 23. I meant to show you but forgot. I keep my control set to Tx PWR in the menu, not PROC. It's a sore point with me. There is a control next door, to the right- with no function in SSB. Hey Yeasu..... we need to talk. You need help. If I weren't into QRP, I'd probably drop the PROC setting to 20. That's plenty with 4K Tx BW.
I keep getting reports of "astounding audio", "excellent articulation", "Tx audio is just wonderful", etc. This happens regardless of whether I'm running QRP or QRO. There's a LOT of IC-7300s out there, and they also sound just astounding when set up right. I got another great compliment this afternoon.. and the result (for you unfortunate souls who witness this mess) is this vid from the streets of Clio, an hour and a half North of The Big D ….

GOD what a wild ride that was. Biomedical Engineering. Holy shi..... what did you DO to me, Henry Ford Hospital? WTF happened there, anways? Have I told you folks about a spirit that shared a moment with me in the basement there? Half way between the Morgue and Radiation Oncology. Why am I suffering PTSD from my years there? I just THRIVED on it at the time. Well, except for the spirit and the mouse-human hybrids. Those little guys my heart cried for and wanted to set free somehow. Yet my heart also understood the need. At least I didn't have to see the dogs too often unless there was surgical emergency with ventilator, anesthesia, etc. Oh man....

I worked 5 mi S. of 8 Mile Rd in the New Center Area you see. Within eye- and nose shot of downtown and the ‘Ren Cen’. I could see Tiger Stadium from any floor in the hospital above the 16th. I kid you not when I tell you that my FAVORITE Chinese takeout joint (at night, on paydays with my friends at the hospital) got shut down by the health dept. Seems they took issue with the stack of skinned cats in the freezer. True Story. Fluffy was apparently delicious- as I said, it was my FAVORITE Chinese joint. We ate their ‘food’ often. I miss it dearly.

The FTdx series rigs by Yaesu are much less popular than the rig of choice by many IcomHeads. Shit, I think Fred runs one! But I digress. I don't know about the FTdx-1200, but from the ‘3K’ on up, they are contest grade rigs and had commensurate prices. Not so for my rig - I used a 'net coupon and paid about $1350.
Finding menu settings for this rig isn't that easy- at least not ones that work well! I set mine up using the rig's IF monitor, which outputs the same audio that gets transmitted. I used a pair of Bose QC2 headphones to get the sound I wanted on both my own- and my son's voice (his is deep like mine). I worked hard at it. Now I have what I like and I'll never change the settings again unless I get a desk mic. Given that I'm now running, and have posted a vid on how to enable 4K Tx BW.. I thought I'd run through my menu settings here on my low level BabbleHam channel. I'm SO SORRY about my babble, both in this description and the ‘show’ proper! Maybe there's a reason people add vocal emphasis when they say to me "what's WRONG with you, anyways?" :-P

Worse thing you can do on amateur radio is to spread the transmit bandwidth out to 4K and then park 3kc away from an ongoing QSO, that's what LIDS do !

I have a 23 year old FT900 with a MH-31. I always get compliments on my audio. I never mention the mic. I figure if they know its a hand mic they won't compliment me.

When I met Shari, hot, redhead, Irish, 19, very oral... I was 22. We 'dated'. If I was running QRP I would set my TX bandwidth to 400-2600. This will achieve the best transmit punch. It will focus all your signal into a nice narrow pattern.
How do you get 4k bandwidth?

Interesting video, the first one of yours that I have watched. What is the reason for running the ALC so high? Won't that distort the audio?

It’s because of the 4K Tx bandwidth. You can set up studio quality audio but if the radio tx is too narrow... well your signal will never see it. Now you’ve found the right settings and your rig set up to 4 sends it!
Can you transmit in the AM mode at 4k TX bandwidth?
THank you for putting out a great informative video! I have an FT818 and FT891. When i had my IC7610, the FT891 would outperform the 7610 on SSB and DSP. Very good radio. I may look at a 3000 in the future.
Thank you Andriy! And I may look into an FT891. lol. Oh man, I love this rig so much that if I had money to spend on a new one, I'd just get a new 3000 and put the box away for the day when this one dies and isn't possible to repair any longer. Take care neighbor :)
