Good stuff. Making your own chart is a super useful skill. I ended up with a mix of shorthand and music notation for when I needed to remember something specific or the base groove.
Yeah if there is a particular part that is signature to the song I might memorize that part, but adding musical notation is a good way to do it as well.
@@AdamZDrumming Yeah, when you're old the memorizing part gets a little sketchy sometimes. :) I save all my charts so it helps get me back up to speed on a song we're doing again after a hiatus or where we have multiple versions. And that one time when we had a scheduling mishap and I literally pulled my charts out of the folder, sat down at the kit, and looked up to see the WL counting off the first song. Heh.

Some drummers say singing the drum parts helped them remember them.
I have never tried that, but it's probably similar to counting it out.
