    What kind of rubber bands do you use? My sons hair is just like your son’s in the back, but it is thinner on top. Do you think the style will still work for us with thinner on top? Also, how does it look when you take this style out? Straight to wash day?

    • @keepingupwithkham

      I used to use the Red by Kiss rubber bands from my local beauty supply store but I found the Goody brand black polybands at Walmart and I’m in love! They even come in a little zipper bag to keep them in.
      This style should still work for him even if he’s a little thinner up top, you may have to try and make the front braids a little smaller, or have them going in a different direction. And don’t make them too tight so it’ll stop any pulling or damaging of the front of this hair.
      When I take this style out I let it loose for a couple days… throw it in a bun, or whatever, until it’s wash day and I have no problems.

    Just curious how do you consider this a protective style if you have rubber bands on the root part of his hair it would be a more protective style with just the braid/plat with just the rubber band at the end of the braid

    • @keepingupwithkham
      @keepingupwithkham  3 роки тому +1

      I consider this a protective style because his ENDS are protected. Your hairs health and growth comes from its ends. If you have split, dry, broken ends then your hair won’t grow. Wrapping, tying, braiding, twisting... all ways to keep your ends protected. By ensuring there is product throughout the hair while focusing on the mid shift and ends, I’m able to seal and protect his hair, making this a protective style.

    Where can I purchase the frizz control product? Cause I don’t like using gel on my 8 year or 1 year old. They have Mexican hair but I hate using like hair spray or gel on my daughter which I don’t ever use it. Does that product work good

    • @keepingupwithkham
      @keepingupwithkham  3 роки тому

      Hey, you're able to get this Frizz Control Paste at any beauty supply store, Amazon, maybe even Target. I will say that this used to be my absolute fave product but I did realize they changed the formula and it just didn't work for me the way it used to. I have since started using the Shine n Jam (yellow)... and I was just like you though by not wanting to use gel or hair spray, but this gel doesn't harm their hair; doesn't make their hair stiff, white/flakey, dry, nothing... which I absolutely love. I would say the Shine n Jam is ok for your 8 year old, but I'd wait until after 2 years old to use the Shine n Jam for your youngest. You could look into the "Just For Me! Curl Peace Braiding & Twisting Grip Glaze"
      Hope this helps! 💙

    Hi, how often do you wash his hair? My son has this same curl pattern and I’m trying to get his hair to grow not sure what products to use any suggestions?

    • @keepingupwithkham

      Hi! I try and wash it at least once a week, but it gets dry quick so I do it when necessary (if it’s not in braids/twists). I would say the more natural non chemical products possible. I would use Shea Moisture Kids products when I first started out, loved those! Oil, I prefer olive but coconut, jojoba, whatever makes you the most comfortable. Soft brushes, wide tooth combs, and try and make the style last as long as possible that way you’re not constantly playing and manipulating his hair. And nothing too tight on the hairline. Hope this helps! 💙

    Just a question, why do you braid in the technique that you do? I’m used to pulling the left and right sections o we tip of the middle piece, instead of under like your do. What difference does it make? Also, what shampoo and conditioner do you use?

    • @keepingupwithkham
      @keepingupwithkham  4 роки тому +1

      There’s isn’t much difference, I think it’s just a preference on the individual person 🤷🏽‍♀️ but I think when I do it this was it helps keep it straighter when I braid since his hair is so curly it’s just one extra step to try and keep the ends from curly up.
      I use the Cantu Care For Kids nourishing shampoo and conditioner - the best price and best results! 💙

    When I braid my son's hair it always ends up curling or sticking out like pig tails🤦🏽‍♀️ I'm new to the hair thing what do I do

    • @keepingupwithkham
      @keepingupwithkham  Рік тому

      Heyyy 👋🏽 honestly I’ve not even mastered the art of hair not curling up yet lol I think it just comes with the territory for their hair type butttt you can try (if you’re not already) using a pomade type gel on the hair, including ends, when braiding - i.e. Shine n Jam, Hicks Edges, Murray’s Edge Wax, etc., then you can also try adding rubber bands (3-5 or more depending on the length of hair - I have a picture of this “banding” on the community page) to each braid for about an hour or so after you finish the style and then remove them and it should help hold it down in place. If you’re doing a tight braid you can try a looser over hand or underhand braiding technique, also a durag after you finish the style may be beneficial.
      Hopefully this helps! Keep on this hair journey, you’ve got this! 💪🏽💙

    Do you put anything over your sons hair at night or do you redo it again the next day?

    • @keepingupwithkham
      @keepingupwithkham  2 роки тому

      I try and get him to sleep with his durag as often as he'll let me, but he sleeps with a silk pillowcase every night so that helps a lot to keep his hair fresh. But there are some styles (like this one) that can sometimes require a refresher after a couple days.

      Hi! Your sons hair sounds just like Kham’s 😩 I use the Cantu Care For Kids Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner. They work so amazing, amazing slip with the shampoo, it doesn’t dry his hair out, and the conditioner just restores all the moisture back in, seals in hydration and adds definition!

    Hi, just came across your channel and wondering how you maintain moisture after wash day? My son hair is usually dry. Also how often do you do your son hair after putting it in a protective style?

    • @keepingupwithkham
      @keepingupwithkham  4 роки тому +1

      Hi! If his hair isn’t in a protective style I just use a spray bottle with some water in it to refresh his hair when I notice it’s dry.. other than that I just make sure his hair is wrapped or in a bonnet at night to prevent damage or more dryness.
      I usually leave his hair in for a week or two, because his hair texture is so soft sadly styles don’t last very long they get frizzy fast, but depending on your sons texture and if you wrap his hair at night you can get a style to last 2-4 weeks!
